Use OEM to monitor oracle database size

Hello All,
We currently have several database which are currently monitored via OEM however i will appreciate if anyone can tell me how i can monitor the the size of my oracle databases via oem
Thanks

Hi,
I'm not sure of OEM will monitor database size, but many 3rd party tools do.
There are many ways to achieve Oracle table monitoring, and many create specialized extension metadata tables to monitor Oracle table growth. In Oracle 10g you can perform Oracle tables monitoring with the dba_hist_seg_stat tables, specifically the space_used_total column.
On my databases, I create STATSPACK extension tables to track table and overall database growth:
http://www.dba-oracle.com/te_table_monitoring.htm
The full scripts are in my Oracle Press book, Oracle tuning with STATSPACK . . .
http://www.amazon.com/Oracle9i-High-Performance-Tuning-STATSPACK-Burleson/dp/007222360X
Hope this helps . . .

  • Managing/monitoring Oracle Database using WBEM

Typically an Oracle Database environment is best monitored and managed using the
    Oracle Enterprise Manager.
But does Oracle allow/support monitoring and management of Oracle databases using open standards like WBEM?
We are trying to standardize on an open standard like WBEM for monitoring and managing hardware and software and also model those entities using the CIM (Common Information model) and would
like to monitor Oracle Databases under this model using WBEM.
I have read about the ability of the Oracle Enterprise manager to manage other third party hardware and software including databases using WBEM Fetchlets.
Would appreciate any information regarding this topic.

  • Using OEM to monitor Data Guard database

Can someone please send me the link or docs of how to use OEM monitoring data guard? In specific, I would like to use OEM to monitor and be sure logs are applying to stand by site.
    Any ideas?

    Hello ,
I will extend the document on the Fast Failover feature one of these days.
What you need to do is:
For using Fast Failover, you need to configure the Data Guard observer process.
The configuration of this process can be done by selecting the Fast-Start Failover Disabled link on the Data Guard page of the database (Primary or Standby).
You will be automatically redirected to the Fast-Start Failover: Configure Page.
From this page you can do the configuration of the DG observer process, that then will enable you to activate the Fast Failover feature.

  • Is there any incompatibility in using different JDBC and Oracle database versions?

    Hi everybody,
I hope you can answer me ASAP.
Which version of JDBC driver for Oracle could I use to access an Oracle database version 8.0.4.3.0 running on a SUN machine?
Is it necessary to use the specific driver concerning to that version or could we use the JDBC version 8.1.6?
If we decide to use JDBC 8.1.6 to work against the 8.0.4.3.0 database, will we find any incompatibility or problem?
    Thanks.

I don't know the answer to your question, but while looking for something else, I found a table listing "requirements and compatibilities for oracle jdbc drivers" that might answer your question:

To be more clear, If it creates any conflict between database's em and oem's em when i want to deploy em agent on database ? Is it necessary to remove database's EM before installing oem agent on it?

  • [Blog] Using VMware vROPs to monitor Oracle Database and WebLogic.  Management Pack for Oracle EM, Hyperic Plugins, or Both?

This blog post provides a suggested methodology for helping users of VMware vROps/vCOps decide which of the existing solutions, the vROps Management Pack for Oracle EM and the VMware vROps Hyperic Plugins for Oracle, should be used to monitor their Oracle workloads.
It’s been a nearly a year since VMware transferred the vCOps Adapter for Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) to Blue Medora and since that transfer Blue Medora has released a number of major updates as well as rebranded it the Blue Medora vROps Management Pack for Oracle EM. Over that same period of time VMware has continued to evolve their Oracle-focused (Oracle Database and WebLogic J2EE) Hyperic agent-based plugins culminating most recently with a October 2014 update to the Oracle Database plugin that provides support for Oracle Database 12c.

  • How to change field size using SQL against an oracle Database

I am an admitted novice user, looking to become more proficient.
I have a field in a table that I need to expand the field size. The table is called Inquiries. The data type is text. The current Field Size is 10. I want to increase it, to either the max, or somethign long enough to fit TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM.
What is the SQL command to change the field size, and what is the max for a Text Field Size

And/Or, an even better question might be,
Do I need to use SQL*PLUS to do this, or are there better tools. I.e, I like how in Access, you can open up a database in Design view and just change the amount for the field size. Is there a similar "easy" method to do something like that with an Oracle database.
My current version of the server/database is:
    Connected to:
    Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production
    With the Partitioning option
    JServer Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production
I was thinking I had to do SQL commands to perform the action, but there may be another way that I am not thinking about with all of the tools at my disposal. When I installed Oracle on my desktop, I installed most of the management tools and networking services, if that helps

  • Oracle Database Size Estimation Technique

    Hello All,
I am planning to estimate a database in Oracle. Its a fresh database and will not take any data from any other legacy or flat file systems.
Do anyone of you can provide me with a checklist sort of thing which will enable me to estimate the size of my database considering its future growth as well?
Or if you have a document which guides to do the estimation of the size of Oracle database, could you please share it with me as well?
    Thanks in advance
    Himanshu

This estimation will depend on your installation type and your configuration like your OS, Oracle edition, release information. For example below information is from Oracle® Database Installation Guide
    10g Release 2 (10.2) for Linux x86 Chapter 2 Preinstallation Tasks - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15660/pre_install.htm#sthref95
    # 400 MB of disk space in the /tmp directory
    # Between 1.5 GB and 3.5 GB of disk space for the Oracle software, depending on the installation type
    # 1.2 GB of disk space for a preconfigured database that uses file system storage (optional)
    Best regards.

  • My Oracle Database Size

    Hi,
I need to check the current size of my Oracle database, and the remaining storage space.
Does anyone know if I could do that from my SQL prompt? If yes, how would I do that?
    thanks,
    Matty

    Hi,
In resume, you can use these query's below:
    select sum(bytes) as total_size from dba_data_files;
    select sum(bytes) as free_size from dba_free_space;
    select sum(bytes) as used_size from dba_segments;Cheers

Why do you need suggestions apart from EM? Is someone in your company just burning to spend money with another vendor to buy the same functionality that Oracle provides for free with EM?

  • Trying to get prior error when using deferred constaint on Oracle database

    Hi Greg,
There is no direct way to retrieve a error as an original exception
is wrapped. Also, it's problematic to report constraint violations
in general as different DB vendors use different ways to report them.
You may try to correct problem by extracting text of the exception
and looking for certain string patterns using direct string parsing
    or regexps.

I'm using an Oracle database which has deferred constraints enabled. I'musing
Weblogic 5.1 and Java. The problem is that the deferred constraints
    don't
    report
errors until a commit. This makes all errors report back to the java EJBcode
as error code 2091: Transaction Rolled Back. Both errors show up in theWeblogic
log file so there must be some way for my EJB to access it. How can I
    get
    the
error code of the actual cause?

  • Useing  a Idoc  an  Oracle  database Can be update useing JDBC Adapter

    Hi Guys,
Can you help me on the above topic..
    Regd's
    Raj

    Hi Raj,
You can use the Idoc Adapter on the sender side and JDBC on the reciever side. After you have configured your scenario, you should be able to write data into the oracle database.
For the strucutre of your Datatype for insertion , just check this link,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/7e/5df96381ec72468a00815dd80f8b63/content.htm
To access any Database from XI, you will have to install the corresponding Driver on your XI server.
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/3867a582-0401-0010-6cbf-9644e49f1a10
Or on the JDBC end you can write a stored procedure to make your data update more efficient.
Go through this blog for stored procedures.

  • Most widely used operating system for oracle database

    hi,
can anyone figure out which operating system is widely used for oracle database around the world.
    thanks and regards,
    Ashok

I don't think you can safely pick one single operating system for Oracle.
Over the years I have seen various Unix flavors, VAX/VMS, Windows and others being used to a great extent for running Oracle database.
Picking one flavor will be tougher then having to program the database under any operating system it is made available.
