What is the Use of "DataSrc" or "DataSource" and InterCompnay Dimension in BPC.
What is the Use of Insights & Custom Menus in BPC.

I would suggest attending a training course or opting for the RKT learning series to get more detailed information. However, here is how I look at the components you are asking about.
DataSrc - Is a dimension that helps to segment information in an application. For example, storing data to members to identify the values stored, such as Manual entry, Allocated data, Journal data, Script based or calculated data, etc.
Insight - Is a part of the application that when "turned on", is a predictive analytic component. This process builds a duplicate application for presenting and evaluating data for a seperate reporting view, primarily a web based view that predicts where values are headed in the future, based on history and relationships/dependencies etc.
Custom Menus - Are a very powerful tool that may be used to create a process for users in an interface that is managed in the excel by an administrator. The menus are the pre-cursor to the BPF's that are also available for consumption. The menu's don't have all the bells and whistles that BPF's have, but are very useful for building user interface links to reports, input schedules, dat apackages and are all built and managed and presented in excel.

It's regarding your questions..
Yes you can make it ..
You can create your data source program in your source system such as R/3, CRM, etc.
There is template function that can be used for your program:
RSAX_BIW_GET_DATA_SIMPLE.
You can use that template, and alter the code as your business requirement.

Using Excel as a Datasource

I created a report that will use Excel as a datasource. The report runs fine from my desktop. I would like to place this report on the Business Objects Server. Can anyone tell me what I would need to do in regards to the excel file.
In addition to this issue, when I moved the excel file to a shared folder and reconfigured the system dsn, the report would not run. I received an error message: could not decrypt data. Any help would be appreicated. Thanks.

Put the excel file on a network drive which is accessible by the server.
Create a Crystal Report using the Access/Excel DAO connection based on the above excel file.
Save it to the enterprise.

Using Vertica as a datasource in Aldsp

Hi,
We are trying to develop a Demo Portal using Weblogic Server, ALDSP as Xquery Engine and Vertica as the database.
We are able to successfully create a connection pool on the Weblogic server using vertica as the datasource.However while trying to create a PhysicalDS file in ALDSP,no option is populated while selecting Database Type and after a few attempts we get the message that Maximum Capacity of Connection Pool is exceeded.Please help us solve this issue.

I'd like to see your JDBC code for getting, using, and closing the connection you get from the
DataSource. Offhand, it sounds like a simple coding error where you neglect to close your
pool connection in some/all cases, which will leak the pool till it's empty.

XLSQL for using Excel (XLS) as datasource in VC

Hope you are having a good day. I know its been a while since you worked on this piece ([url] DATE issues when using BI JDBC Excel datasource in VC;url] ) but we are trying to do the same thing you had done. Use xlSQL to connect to an excel file as a datasource for VC modeling.
We want to use the BI Java connector. I have loaded the JAR files and when we get to the Manage Connections, not sure what we enter for the Driver, URL, Schema, username and Password.
What I now see if that the Connection Test (for the BI JDBC system) works fine with the following:
Driver: com.nilostep.xlsql.jdbc.xlDriver
Connection URL (Unix box): jdbc:nilostep:excel:/reports/spec (this is the folder where I have the xls file)
FixedSchema: (should my excel file name go in here?)
FixedCatalog: (should my excel sheet name go in here?)
Username: none used
Password: none used
When I do all of this and search for TABLES in VC on that system, it says None found. Any light shed on this would be very helpful.

Follow all the steps... Some remarks about the steps in this document:
Step 7: add all additional .jar files that are in the /lib folder of the xlsql driver package
Step 11 - 14: ... skip this, after step 15 restart the whole j2ee cluster, this is really needed to load the .jar files
Step 15: although optional and not the configuration you need to get it working for VC it is handy to configure this as it allows you to use the JDBC test page for debuging etc.
The only 2 parameters you need to configure with this step is:
Driver: com.nilostep.xlsql.jdbc.xlDriver
Connection URL: jdbc:nilostep:excel:/reports/spec/
...Now restart the j2ee cluster...
After the restart you can use the following url to see if the driver works: http://<hostname>:<port>/TestJDBC_Web/TestJDBCPage.jsp
Continue the configuration to allow VC to access the driver you need to configuer a System object in the portal...
Follow Step 16 an onwards...
Step 26: Again only fill in the following:
Driver Class name: com.nilostep.xlsql.jdbc.xlDriver
Connection URL: jdbc:nilostep:excel:/reports/spec/
Step 29,30 and 34,35: Usermaping Type can be left untouched
Additional step (do this after step 33): To make the system visible in VC you must set the portal permission for the user that use VC to Read + Enduser. Also when used in runtime later the enduser should have Read+ Enduser permission to use the system object. We used the built-in group Authenticated User for this and set the permissions on this group to Read+Enduser.
This should do the trick...
FAQ 1 - after uploading a new (or overwriting an existent) XLS file to the folder the changes are not visible, how to solve this?
ANSWER 1 - restart the JDBC connector via /nwa > manage > applications > (search for jdbc) > Stop / Start
FAQ 2 - after deleting a XLS file the data is still querieable, even after the restart of the jdbc driver?
ANSWER 2 - this is some kind of caching bug, deleted files are only deleted when you restart the J2EE engine.
FAQ 3 - after a restart of the jdbc driver, the first query firred in VC returns an error.
ANSWER 3 - this is because the first time the XLS files are read and writen into a HSQLDB in memory database, this takes more time. after this the calls are made on this in-memory-copy of the XLS data.

Error using Excel as a DataSource for Report Builder 3.0 - ODBC connection

I'm getting this error message below while trying to use excel as a datasource within Report Builder 3.0. I can see the columns and rows but unable to display/run the report. Using Excel 32 bit and have the driver and user dsn created under c:/windows/syswow64/odbcad32.

I have commercial experience in migrating Crystal Reports to SSRS. When performing any type of migration it is always wise for the business requirements to be revisited. It is likely that the business requirements may have changed since the Crystal reports
were initially developed, etc.

Attempted to use a 5.0 DataSource outside of a 2.3 servlet

I am using WAS 5.0 with Oracle 9.2 . I cannot get a servlet to work with the datasource 5.0 . Any ideas??

Unable to stablish a connection using JDBC Drivers and Datasources

I am using SQL Server 2005,
I configured the driver(name:SQL2005) and added sqljdbc.jar
Also created a datasource with this information:
Application name: TEST
Name: TEST
Desc: TEST
I gave TEST as Alias.
I selected the driver I've created before(SQL2005), with JDBC Version 1.x(No AX Support)
As Driver Class I put com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
As DatabaseURL I put jdbc:sqlserver://<ServerName>:<port>;database=<dbName>
User: Admin, Password: pass
In SQL Engine I put "VENDOR SQL"
when I save it and try to Start Selected StandAlone Application I get this Error:

these are the details:

If you are using an Open SQL DataSource, you must register your tables using JDDI before you request them. Reason: com.sap.engine.services.dbpool.exceptions.BaseSQLException: ResourceException in method ConnectionFactoryImpl.getConnection(): com.sap.engine.services.dbpool.exceptions.BaseResourceException: SQLException thrown by the physical connection: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: La conexión a la instancia con nombre ha fallado. Delta question while using 'RSAX_BIW_GET_DATA_SIMPLE for delta datasource

Hello all,
we have created a custom datasource using FM and we have written it pretty much as a copy of this FM 'RSAX_BIW_GET_DATA_SIMPLE'.
we are using this extractor to extract data from one of the HR infotypes. Now how it works with infotypes is suppose you have one record for date 04/01/2011 to 12/31/999 and when you go in to create a new record it will delimit the previous one, so basically if you create a new record today the first record will go as 04/01/2011 to 07/31/2011 and new record will be 08/01/2011 to 12/31/9999.
Now how I am seeing the delat data comeover is I am getting the new record which is created with new dates of 08/01/2011 to 12/31/9999 but the extractor is not fetching the old/changed record of 04/01/2011 to 07/31/9999 so when i load data in DSO I have two records but both of them end on 12/31/999, I have Valid to as part of data fields in DSO so that it can be overwritten but since I am not getting/collecting the changed record the valid to is not changing.
Has any one faced this before and knows how to fix this?

Check the document for combining two date fields to get the timestamp.

Now the two dates that you have to consider is the start date(08/01/2011) and the end date (12/31/2011). As per the document the record will be captured based on the change either in start date or end date or both. This way it should capture both records.

When i would like to use SAP content data source Like ,AR,AP,GL
data source what are all the master data need to activate for this.
Ex: for AR we need to activate the Customer master data
what abt AP,GL what are the master data need to be activated while using SAP content data source in R/3.

What are the steps i need to do in source system?.First of all identify the data source and what are the master data need to be used for the data source like AP,AR,GL in R/3.
Find out what Cubes, ODS's will be used - > HELP.SAP using the datasource.
Activate transaction datasources.
See Infosource Overview and activate relevant master datasources in RSA5 - ECC.
Install content on BI side.
It doesnot matter what datasources you activate first, it is just a preferred way to load transaction data only after master data.
What are all the masterdata need to activate before going to activate AR,AP,GL data source in R/3.

Basically the main advantage is to not have the tight coupling between the EJB
and the particular JNDI name that it's bounded to. Please refer to a previous
post where I addressed this issue (perhaps a few days ago on this newsgroup).
In addition, you will always gain performance improvements by caching the remote/local
home objects for your EJBs.

Using PSA as a datasource in BI7 across systems

I have a scenario where the extraction takes place in one BW1 system and I would like to update a second BW2 system with the contents of the extraction contained in the PSA/DataSource from BW1.
The creation of a DataSource based on the PSA table is not the optimum solution. Is there another way to retrieve data collected in one system and move across system without creating a DataStore?

Could look at using APD. It can read a flat table and output to a file (File output option may be with a recent SP, not sure it was there originally in 7.0) can output to a file. APD would ley you filter or alter records if needed. Not sure I would go this route, but I think it would work.
