Use of flash buttons - not a good idea?
Hi guys
I've been advised in an earlier post against the use of flash
buttons. As someone relatively new to Adobe products I'm interested
to know how flash buttons don't seem to be supported but flash
moves or indeed flash websites are in abundance and seemingly have
no problems, or personally speaking I've not had problems viewing
such websites in the past. I'm not contending the opinion I was
given but as someone on a learning curve I think it would be
invaluable to learn how one works and not the other.
Also, what would be a suitable alternative to flash buttons,
I'm considering using jpg images which change on mouse-over using
javascript.
Mike
sigh - i was trying to be nonjudgemental. one may have a site
where seo is a nonissue and they know that their audience has the
latest flash-equipped browser (like mine, for example. while i
choose to not use flash for different reasons, i don't rely on
search engines as a meaningful source of business and/or leads.)

Why are flash buttons not a good idea?
I'm trying to figure out a problem I'm having with flash
buttons (mainly that I don't want users to have to click twice to
make them work), and I keep seeing posts (particularly by Murray)
asking if the poster knows that flash buttons aren't a good idea.
However, I was unable to find an explanation as to
why they are a bad idea. Can anyone explain this to me in
layman's terms? I'm very new to Dreamweaver and web development in
general. I'm developing an intranet site for a specific group of
users where accessibility is not a huge concern.
Thanks!Consider these scenarios -
1. I don't have Flash installed. I don't get the benefit of
your Flash
navigation element.
2. I am a search engine spider. I don't get the benefit of
your Flash
navigation element.
Need I say more? 8)

I like the new iOS 7 for iphone... But i think it's not a good idea to allow switch the iphone on flight mode when it is locked.. What happens if your iphone is stolen or lost? You couldn't be able to locate it using find my iphone... Can i remove this from the bottom menu?
And have your phone set to require a passcode before it can be accessed.
-
Hi I think its not a good idea to have "airplane mode" in Control center because if you lost your iphone person who find it could active it easy and you never find it
You can leave Apple your feedback here.
You can disable Control Center on the lock screen here:

Edit... Flash button not working in Studio 8
If I select a Flash object and click on the Edit... Button in
the Properties window, nothing happens. No errors, no warnings,
nothing. Flash 8 does not open.
If I double click the Flash object, the resulting dialog
shows me that Dreamweaver knows where the .swf file is (right disk,
right directory), but the Edit... button doesn't work.
I've re-entered the application that opens .swf files in the
Preferences Menu, and I've even reinstalled both Flash 8 and
Dreamweaver 8.01...still no go.
Can anyone help?
ThanksSince "ABOVE" means nothing to those of us using NNTP to read
these forums
(most of the regulars), and since it's usually the regulars
who post the
answers, it's always a good idea to restate your problem and
its symptoms,
instead of just saying "me too".
Can you do that?

Flash buttons not showing/hiding layers in Firefox
Before anyone says to use the search tool, I did that, even googled the problem and no suggestions have yet to work. here is the page http://www.preziosidevelopment.com/dchs/dchs.html it works flawlessly in internet explorer, but fails to work at all in firefox. All the buttons being nested inside table cells is another byproduct of having to design for firefox, if there is a better way of setting those up so they display properly in firefox feel free to let me know. I'm a designer not a coder, so please keep that in mind. Just to clarify, the only problem I am currently having is the first two buttons are not showing/hiding my layers in firefox as they do in internet explorer. Thanks for any help.
Richard PreziosiI'm a designer not a coder, so please keep that in mind.
Here's a sincere suggestion. Do not use Flash buttons for anything. Really. People who don't have Flash will not see the buttons or be able to trigger anything. Search engines will not see any links that may be embedded in those buttons nor will assistive screen devices. As a result of these as well as other maintenance problems that would affect *you* when you try to maintain them, Adobe has removed them entirely from CS4 (and I say good riddance). Is it possible for you to rethink this entire approach using CSS styled text or ordinary graphic buttons? -
When in design view and choose media--flash button or flash
text, i fill out the dialog box and save file but all I see when I
hit apply and OK is a gray box with handles and a f in it. Then in
browser check it does not show at all? My computer does have flash
reader as I can see other site's flach elements properly. I
followed the DW help and an online movie explanation.
I understand that Dreamweaver can generate it's own flash
elements such as flash text and buttons.
What am I missing?
To read the old tread where there was no resolution search
for jimkemble as author thanksPost the "code view" code that is generated and any other
code that you have written so we can get an idea of the problem.

Use of "Rel" Attribute in Links -- Good Idea?
Hi --
I was reading about various SEO methods recently and came
across several
pages which advocate the use of the "Rel" attribute on a
hyperlink. The idea
being that the "Rel" may influence how a search engine views
a link and
possibly help with ranking. For example: <a
href="help.html" rel="Help">
need help?</a>.
Sounds like a good idea, but the more I read the confused I
became. A Danny
Sullivan article about use of the attribute "nofollow" used
by major search
engines made sense. It was the other article I read which
used all
different types of attributes that confused me such as
rel="met colleague",
rel="alternate". Is there someplace I can go to find a list
of widely
accepted attributes?
Anyone have any experience with this?
JohnThanks, Joe. Yep, the source is the best place to start.
Should have
thought of that myself.
I suspect you're assessment is correct...won't hurt, might
help.
Thanks again.

I have inserted a flash button into a side_navigation which
when clicked on is supposed to launch the end users e-mail program
with the address and subject lines pre-populated. This works fine
when tested from another internal server, however, from a remote
machine only a box with the "click here to activate this control"
pop up appears. The original site was created outside of
Dreamweaver using raw html code and Cascading style sheets. Any
help is greatly appreciated! Are you using DW 8.0.2? Have you uploaded the Scripts folder?

Using own flash button - no link option
Hey,
This is probably a really dumb question, but I cannot figure
out how to link my own imported flash button to a page on my site.
If I select a button within DW, and click the edit option I'm
presented with the option of linking the button. If I use my own
button, clicking edit just puts me into Flash.
I don't want to use the "getURL" within flash because it
insists on too many security checks which would really ruin a
visitor's experience to my site.
Even in code view there is no hint as to a link referenced,
so I can't even fudge around with the code!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
PS.--Adobe: maybe offer a "suggested username" when
registering for your forums - not really my preferred choice of
nick, but got fed up after 20 attempts to choose one.You cannot apply an HTML link to a Flash element. That link
must be part of
the Actionscript.

I've added a flash button to my website and uploaded it to
the home file, but it's not appearing online. Any
suggestions?I just purchased some software that allows you to make flash
buttons. I made a button, and thought I had it uploaded to my page,
but it doesn't seem to be working either. I uploaded some button
designs from Adobe and I see them when I go to make or edit a
button, but I don't see the one that I thought was upload from the
new software. What software are you using and how did you upload
your buttton? -
Using layoutmanagers in a game. Good idea?
Is it a good idea to use a layoutmanager to provide the layout for a map and use another layer where I draw the movements? Any suggestions what I should or should not do, techniques? This is for a 2d game schoolproject, but I have no experience in this area.
Forget about using swing/awt components. Check out some of the posts on javagaming.org.
The normal way to draw a map is making a grid of tiles that cover your map, with each grid or tile having a image.
Search dubble buffering, smooth scrolling, and tilesets.
Image[] images; // image for each ground type;
int[][] tiles; // contains the type of ground for each tile.
// tiles = new int[worldWidth / tileSize][worldHeight / tileSize];
int minTileX = cameraX; // where we in the level.
int minTileY = cameraY; // camera is in tile coordinates. ( keeping it simple :) )
for (int x = 0, tileX = 0; tileX < tilesAcross; x += tileSize, tileX++)
for (int y = 0, tileY = 0; tileY < tilesDown; y += tileSize, tileY++)
Image image = images[tiles[minTileX + tileX][minTileY + tileY]];
g.drawImage(image, x, y, tileSize, tileSize, null); -
Flash buttons not working in IE7 and Chrome
Here's my website where the problem is occuring www.bakercreative.co.uk
As you can see the Flash buttons animate, but when clicked they should go to a new html page.
I've tested it in IE8 and Firefox without any problems but it's not working in IE7 and Chrome.
Does anyone know what the problem is? Could it be the html code or the flash file itself?
ThanksHi, Glad you were able to solve that issue with the buttons and Chrome. Any small thing can cause big problems!! LOL
I'm sure IE7 will test out ok, IE6 did Your website is very nice and has a variety! I hope it all comes together for you.
Thanks,

I am taking a class in Dreamweaver CS6. We created a page with a clip that uses Adobe Flash. The page renders like it should in I.E.10 but the clip doesn't even load in Firefox. I have downloaded the latest version of Firefox and Adobe Flash. Have 'reset' Foxfire. It still won't render correctly. Any suggestion of what I can try next?
This could be related to the HTML tags for the Flash media. If you use an <object> tag with a clsid, then Firefox will ignore it. Typically in that case, there is an <embed> tag within the object for browsers that do not use ActiveX.
If the page is online, you could provide a link so volunteers can take a look.
