what is the small icon upper right corner of fotos in project bin? It looks like a paint brush on a square. It's existence corresponds with an inability to change the foreground and background colors. thx.

Bought elements 10 last month and can't use the edit feature.

So I got elements 10 with a Wacom Bamboo Capture around April 23rd last month. I created a new adobe id and signed in. It asked me to update my account and add my birthday, personal URL for photoshop, and agree to the terms. Everytime I've tried to do this during the past few weeks I always get an error/failure message. Just don't use the welcome screen. If you use Windows, go into the program files or program files(x86) for 64-bit systems, find the actual .exe/application file for the editor, right click it and make a desktop shortcut and use that instead of the welcome screen to launch the editor. For macs, it's in applications>adobe photoshop elements 10>support files.

iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> General -> Connecting Camera opens.... And select your preferred app.
You can also make the same choice in the Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) and Aperture preferences.

TestStand not updating th description after using the edit substep

I've created numerous custom steps in TestStand. None of them will update the description after I use the edit substep and change some of that steps properties. As an example, I have the following step description...
str(Step.Channel.DeviceName)
After I use the edit substep, which changes step.Channel.DeviceName, the description does not update. However, if I then open the properties menu for that item and either select "OK" of "Cancel" to leave the property window, it then updates to the correct values. Placing down a new step will also force the description to update. While this is not functionally causing any problems, it would be nice if the descriptions updated immediatly.

The reason it doesn't update is because the sequence editor doesn't know that the sequencefile has changed so it doesn't know to redraw that window. You can force it to redraw the window by calling the method IncChangeCount from the PropertyObjectFileClass. If you increment the change count it should automatically update the description as soon as your edit substep completes. Also a piece of advice, in the future if you have TestStand questions, you can probably get a quicker answer to them by posting on the TestStand forums, even if it is using the TestStand API in another programming environment like LabVIEW or CVI. how do I get raw NEF files (from Nikon) to open in the edit workspace of elements 8? I have windows 7 , and when I try to open NEF raw files from the viewer, it says cannot recognize the file type.

What is your camera model? Every camera has its own raw format and the raw converter must be updated to work with it. If your camera model was new in the past couple of years PSE 8 won't be able to open those files directly.

I had the same issue and I'm running Windows 7. Tried working with technical support for several hours but they were no help. They just had me doing the same things over and over, offering no real answers. I finally got fed up and have decided to return my product for a full refund.

Turn off Snaps in Motion 5 when using the Edit Points tool and Beziers

I drew a bunch of Bezier lines and am now going through my animation and fine tuning thier locations using the "Edit Points" tool. Is there a way to turn off the snapping function within the edit points tool?

With snapping on and dragging around points or control points in Edit points, you can temporarily disable the snapping action by holding down the command key.

What controls the color of the cursor that selects text when you use the "Edit Document Text" tool?

Hi, I have had a student ask me a question I cannot answer: what controls the color of the cursor that selects text when you use the "Edit Document Text" tool?
I have only seen it appear as a black semicircle over each letter, but at a different computer in our training facility, this same tool appears as an aqua-green highlight.
Is it a preference I never noticed? Thanks for any info.

Do they have the cloud icon on them ? When I had Settings > iBooks > Show All Purchases 'on' I was getting multiple copies of books that were only in the cloud showing on the bookshelf in the app - turning that setting 'off' stopped them showing (you can see what books are available for redownloading, and redownload them, via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the app)

The Edit Workspace

I cannot access the edit workspace. I get an error message saying it's an invalid address. This just happened today and I don't know why. It is an old program..but I've never had a problem before. Any ideas?

I am still not clear on the exact program that you have.
Is it Photoshop version 4.0 (hopefully updated to 4.0.1), Photoshop CS 4, or Photoshop Elements 4.0?
If Photoshop Elements 4.0, then we can move your post to that specific forum.

Lightroom and using the Edit in Photoshop CS3 Options

Today, I installed Lightroom v1.1 and Photoshop CS3 v10.0.1 I have an issue...Using Lightroom, I import a photo (JPG) into LR Library. Then, I right-click the photo and select the option to Edit In Photoshop CS3. This opens a window within Lightroom and there are three available options concerning What to Edit. Two Options reference Edit a Copy and One Option references Edit the Original. The two referencing Editing a Copy always says Lightroom cannot prepare the file for editing and that the file cannot be opened. If I select the last option to Edit the Original, that photo is brought into PS CS3 for Editing.
This is also the situation with files TIFF and PSD.
This is also the situation if I use a different Photo Editor other than PS CS3.
I have read the user manual and if I read correctly, the Two Options which do not work should also work. Or does my thinking need correction?
I would appreciate someone helping me with the understanding of this issue.

I think Judith has a point.
I believe I should be able to Import a JPG from somewhere (HD, Floppy Drive, CD Drive)into the LR Library and then call upon Photoshop CS3 to Edit that JPG. If I am not incorrect, when reading the Lightroom Documentation, I see where this action is supported.
The action is: Right-Click a JPG (also TIF and PSD as well) in the LR Libary. From the menu presented, select Edit in the Adobe Photoshop CS3. A new Window appears from which to select either of two Edit a Copy Actions (with LR adjustments or without LR adjustments), I alway receive a Warning Window saying: Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My Documents\My Pictures\photo.JPG (or TIF or PSD) for editing. It will not be opened.
If I select Edit the Original, the photo is brought into CS3 for editing. This selection is the only one which work. I wish to point out that the Copy File Options are grayed-out with the Edit Original Selection. And, the Copy File Options are NOT Grayed-out with Copy Options.
In summary, if Copy File Options available, the JPG (or TIF or PSD) will not be prepared by Lighrooom for editing in CS3. My Copy File Options show TIFF and PSD pnly; no JPG. If I read correctly, I cannot Copy a JPG for editing into CS3. What I do not understand is if I have a TIFF or PSD in the Library, the Copy Option still fails to execute. The point John has made about RAW requires me to look into that aspect. I need to know more about that.
Can anyone right-click a JPG in the LR Libary. Then select Edit in CS3. Then use either of the two Copy Functions Selections for the action of that JPG being prepared by LR and brought into CS3 for editing?
This action will not work for me.
I do plan to update my version soon.
