User Account Password Resetting

Hi All,
I have an issue on one site running 10.4.9 server on an Intel XServe where one individual user account continually has the password reset, meaning that she cannot logon.
Previously on this server I had the issue with the Password Service crashing everytime a user was created which seems to have been fixed with the update of 10.4.9, however this user still continues to be a problem
There seems to be no reason for the account resetting, the server has not been rebooted for it to happen, nothing in the system log shows anything abnormal.
A few weeks back I tried deleting the user account and re-creating her which worked for a few days and then it happened again.
Following the 10.4.9 install I have deleted her account and created her again with a brand new SID and that worked a treat for a week, and then yesterday it happened again.
We are now having to manually reset her password every few days so that she can logon to the system. She is the only user affected and I have disabled the complexity requirements for passwords in the Open Directory Service.
If anyone has any thoughts/ideas on what could be causing this then please let me know.
Cheers,
PJR

I know we've got an answer, but I wanted to throw in another permutation I came across. This applies to people running OS X Server in the "magic triangle" configuration, where authentication is handled by something other than OS X Server (eDirectory, in my case.)
I'd try to log in to an account and the login window would shake at me. Go in to workgroup manager, reset the password, try again and it works. However the next time I try to log in I'll get the same error.
This puzzled me for a minute, but it was the regularity of the behavior that tipped me off. The problem is simply that the user's password has expired, and the message doesn't make it through to the Macs. Maybe it does with Active Directory (anyone?) and maybe there's an LDAP binding to make it work with eDirectory (anyone again?) Likewise, maybe there's a binding that will let eDirectory know that WGM changed the password. In any case, that was the problem and the solution was simply to change my password using the Novell client on a Windows box.
There, maybe that'll help someone out in a very specific situation...

  • How to reset the forgotten Windows user account password

I need Toshiba password reset! How do I reset Toshiba laptop? I would be appreciated if you help me Toshiba password recovery, etc. Well, so frequently to meet these problems in our lives. Today, we together share some ways to reset Toshiba password.
Solution1: Toshiba recovery disks help reset lost password
It only works if we created the recovery disks or CD before we forgot the password. The following listed are the steps to reset disk for Toshiba Windows 7 recovery:
    a. Start PC, log on Windows 7 and insert an USB flash drive into the driver.
    b. Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Accounts -> Create a password reset disk.
    c. In welcome screen click Next and select the inserted USB flash drive, click Next.
    d. Input the login password in the password field and click Next. When progress indicator shows 100% complete, click Finish to exit. Remove the USB driver from PC.
The method is similar to create a Toshiba recovery CD. Now, the Toshiba Windows 7 password recovery disk is ok. Put it in a safe place for people may use it to reset your password.
Steps to recover password with created Toshiba password reset disk:
    e. Click Reset Password in the Windows 7 logon window,

Solution2: Reset Toshiba laptop by accounts with administrator rights
If there is default or built-in admin account or other accounts with administrator privileges and rights, we can use it for Toshiba password bypass. Take Toshiba XP recovery as example:
    A. Boot system from Safe Mode by pressing F8 when PC stars.
    B. Access PC with the available account with administrator rights and privileges.
    C. Start - Local Users and Groups lusrmgr.msc in the Search box ENTER - Local Users and Groups - choose Users.
    D. Right click the account with unlocked password, select Set Password and then input and confirm the new password.
Solution3: Reset Toshiba password with burned ISO image file
We can burn an .iso image file into a bootable USB disk or CD/DVD and reset the forgotten password easily and quickly. Take one of the most popular Windows password reset tool Ainorsoft Windows Password Recovery as example:
    a. Download the program from an accessible PC;
    b. Burn its .iso file to a blank CD/DVD or USB disk;
    c. Bypass the lost Toshiba password with the burned CD/DVD on the locked PC.
Things will not be tricky if we know the methods for Toshiba password reset once we forgot Toshiba laptop password! Please also remember to share them with your friends!

Thanks for sharing this but you are talking always about Toshiba passwordthis is wrong and I think this could be a little confusing this is a workaround for windows user account password.
As far as I know there are no password set by Toshiba.
The user can set the windows user account password if necessary so this workaround describes how to delete a Windows user account password which is common for all computers with preinstalled Windows OS.
    However, thanks for posting ;)

  • Itunes account password reset. icloud email unavailable...

this is a question for a friend, because obviously, i have an account to ask.
itunes account password reset because her son kept attempting to access account.
to reset password, link goes to email. however, her email was an icloud account. so it used the same log in as the itunes account.
she knows the secret question and answer to access and reset from the non-email password reset method, however, the birthday required to get to that question is inaccessible and does not work (she is a woman, and obviously lies about her age).
I'm thinking the only way around it is to either setup a new itunes account, which would erase the ipad data once that is connected ( i assume that ipads can connect with only a single account), or find some other way to access the secret question. there is no phone number listed for icloud.
the ipad is only backed up to the icloud account. she just bought a computer, so would like to make a physical backup of the ipad. I think it is unadvisable to connect the ipad and the computer, until the icloud account can be accessed.
I'm not very knowledgable of the whole icloud thing. it sounded like a good idea to back up the son's ipad since she didnt have a computer, so i gifted her the icloud account. now, i'm kind of responsible for figuring out the situation. any helpful comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

sneaky, found it sent an email to one of my email accounts as well as the icloud.
    login solved.

  • IMac keeps asking for user account password when changing Airport

Whenever I change anything in Airport (switching networks mainly) my iMac constantly prompts me to submit my user account password. All other macs don't do that. Any clues?

Suggest that if you haven't already taken the next steps....open System Preferences > Network > AirPort and delete the current wireless connection by highlighting the name of the network, then clicking the - (minus) button at the bottom of the connection list. Click OK and then Apply.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access and locate the name of the wireless network, then highlight and delete that entry.
Restart your Mac to see if that will allow you to start fresh.
If still no luck, I'm afraid it's getting down to a re-installation of the operating system on the Mac.

  • How do i find out or reset my user account password?

i just downloaded osx lion and mac prompted me for a user password and i have no idea what that is or how to find out what it is.

You need to cancel the Lion install for now.
Print this out as your going to be off the computer.
If you have the 10.6 disk then stick it in the computer and reboot holding c
The second screen in is the OS X installer, but if you look under the Utilities menu you can reset your pasword.
If you don't have a 10.6 disk your going to need to do this
Grab the name of the user account you want to reset the password for, write it down.
The Easy Password Reset Way. (no disk required)
1: Reboot the machine holding Command and S keys, you'll boot into single user mode.
2: Type in each command below followed by Enter or Return
    fsck -fymount -uw /passwd "username"
(where "username" is the users name of the password your trying to change)
    Example:
    fsck -fymount -uw /passwd johnnyboy
If you don't know the name of the users then enter
    ls /Users/
and you'll see three items: .localized, Shared, and a "username"
    When done
    exit
    or
    reboot
(note: if a firmware password is set, this or c booting from theinstaller cd will not work)

  • I cannot reset my user account password...

After upgrading to Lion, several old user accounts appear on my login list (all of which are administrator status.)  I tried to save the settings to automatically log in to my most current account, but the password does not match, and I think I will have to reset it.  Resetting my master password did not make a difference, and in System Preferences/ User & Groups, I selected "Allow user to reset password using Apple ID" but cannot find any resetting options from there.  I would like to try to reset my account password versus creating an entirely new account.  Any suggestions are appreciated!

So what happens when you go into the mail settings to input the correct password?

  • Server app v3.01 User Accounts password add/reset/editing functions greyed out

I recently upgraded a Lion server to Mavericks with 1500 users and 450 clients on Xserve early2009 2.26Ghz Quad core Xeon 24GB RAM  32 TB Raid.
All the upgrade went ok through 10.7 to 10.8 to 10.9 apart from having to rekerberise the realm to get users to log in from various 10.7,10.8,10.9x10) clients . I do not use Profile Manager as yet as I have had lots of faults on test networks etc so I continue to use Workgroup Manager 10.9 and Server app v3.01 now that Server Admin Tools has been discontinued.
I have noticed however that all my users in Accounts/Server App are not editable such as password resets adding and deleting users etc. If you choose Edit User all the information shows but is greyed out for editing etc.
I still use WorkGroup Manager for adding/editing users and changing passwords which still functions(thank goodness).
Am I missing something in that I cant edit/add users because I upgraded from a previous directory and OS etc? Do I have to accept the server app wont edit/add users and stick with WGM? Or are there serious underlying faults with my  open directory?
There are also lots of quirks in the File Sharing pane with users hanging on after logging out from clients and duplicates of log ins when they log in again. Today I restarted my server to update the Server app to 3.01 and i got a message saying 361 users were logged in although no users were showing in the File Sharing pane for about 12 hours! Obviously there is some problem with the termination of the log out process in AFP that doesnt take place. Since reboot this morning the memory usage has dramatically decreased so I am waiting to see if the errors return when we get a busy network situation later today.
Anyone had tthese problems or fixed the issues?

Just to update my post I referred to the the brilliant Krypted site to see if anything would help my situation and found this post on resetting the Server.app. I havent had time to try this yet but I'd like others to comment if they try it first:
"Unresponsive Server After Mavericks Upgrade? Reset Server App
The Server 3 app is great. But when you go making changes to some things, you’re just going to cause problems, sometimes something as simple as just upgrading to the latest and greatest version of Server… I know, you’ve been told that host name changes and IP changes are all kinds of OK at this point; “look, Charles, there’s a button!” Well, go ahead, click it. Don’t mind me, you might just be alright. But then again, you might not… And upgrades that use a migration wizard… Um, when it works it’s a thing of beauty. But when it doesn’t, you might be restoring some stuff from backup. But just before you do that restore, let’s try one more thing. Let’s try and rebuild some certificates and configuration settings that shouldn’t impact actual service operation. Let’s try to reset the Server app and let a fresh install of the Server see if it can fix issues.
Now, I want to be clear, this is the last resort before restoration. I’ve had a lot of luck with services remaining functional and preserving settings when I do this, but don’t expect that. Basically, we’re going to do what we looked at doing back in ’09 with AppleSetupDone but one designed just for servers, so the file is in the same place (/var/db) and called .ServerSetupDone. To remove it, close Server app and run the following command:
    sudo rm /var/db/.ServerSetupDone
Once removed, open the Server app again and then let the Server app run as though it’s new. Cruft, begone!"

  • Windows 2008 R2 Domain Controller, Tracking of helpdesk staff invloved in unlock account, password reset

    Dear All,
We recently gave permissions to group of level 1 staff to unlock OR reset password of users. In case user calls and report his account is locked OR if his password expires.
I want to track by auditing just in case something goes wrong, I can check in auditing. I have created a new GPO and select success/failure for Computer Config > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Audit Policy "Audi
    Account Management"
applied it on domain top level and I did not changed settings of 'default Domain Policy' which is also linked on top level of domain.
But after applying this I am unable to see any event 4724 of password re-set when I attempted to test this GPO. What else is required to be done in order to trace users in group 'level1' if they change any body password.
    Please assist.
    thank you

    Hello,
Total two DC's in our environment. But now I figured out and it is working now. It was supposed to set in Advanced audit policy > User account management, I enabled it for success and failure and my newly created GPO is applied on domian top in addition
    to default domain policy.
I am able to see unlock events, password change events in my security log. So, it is working.
    Thank you,

  • Can't Change a User's Password - "Reset Password" is Grayed Out

I'm trying to reset a user account in OS X 10.4.11 on a MacBook. I am the administrator and am logged in as such.
I have gone into System Preferences > Accounts and clicked the unlock icon, put in my admin password, and selected the other user from the list on the left (the other user is listed under "Other Accounts").
But the "Reset Password" button is simply greyed out, I can't select it. Any idea what I can do here?

Hi, not sure what is going on yet... can you change other ones?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • ICloud account password reset problems

    Hello!
I registered an iCloud account for my iPad mini. My username is [email protected]
The problem is I forgot the password. I asked for a password reset at iforgot.apple.com.
I checked all of my e-mail accounts when I figured out the email adress for my iCloud account is the [email protected] As I told I don't know my password so I can't sign in to my iCloud email to reset the password.
Please help me, because I restored my iPad and I can't activate it without sing in to iCloud.
    Thanks,
    oliverus

Did you set security questions? If yes, this might help you get in.
Another place to look is in Keychain Access and in your Browser settings.
    Open Keychain Access in Applications/Utilities.
Select Login keychain in the top right.
You can enter iCloud in the top search box but you can also scroll through the list looking for the entry.
If you see the blue circle with @, select. Double click to open
You'll see the actual account listed so you'll know if it's the correct one.
Check the box to show password.
Enter your Login password for your User.
    You'll see the password.
You might need to check several entries.
In Safari, go to Preferences > Passwords.
    Check box to Show passwords.
    Select the icloud.com site
Click on the password to view after entering your Login password for User.
If you used FireFox or Chrome, you would need to look in their preferences for the password.
TIP: When you can get in, add multiple recovery emails to the account. Write down your password and recovery emails and keep in a safe place. I recommend 1Password  http://agilewebsolutions.com/products/1Password
I use a lot of fake answers and it's hard to remember so I keep these in secure notes in 1Password.
Tip: when Yosemite is released you might see 1Password on sale. It's not cheap but worth every penny.

Forgot password to my Toshiba Laptop Satellite M505-S4945
I forgot the password to my user account. No other administrator accounts only one limited one. I am using window 7 and I am begging for some help. No window recovery flashdrive or anything. I am in need of dire help

    Satellite M505-S4945
There is always a hidden Administrator account (with extra-special privileges). First, try the following from the limited account. If a password is requested, use a blank. (I hope you have the Professional or Ultimate edition. Local Users and Groups is not available in Basic or Home.)
Access the real Administrator account in Windows 7
Otherwise, the best way to handle this is to reset passwords.
