User Library Distribution

Hey,
I'd like to create a distribution for a library I've created and there are a couple of things I'd like the installer to do, but I'm not sure exactly how:
Add the library to the CVI libraries list
Add User defined tokens
Also, it's a RT DLL I want to share is there a way to make it installable to the RT in max?
I found this directory:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\National Instruments\CVI\Shared\AutoloadLibraries
that seems like the place I want to add a string to, but is that specific to Win7 x64?
And can I set a Registry Value equal to one of the defined directory's plus another string?
And how does CVI find the header file and lib file associated with the function tree?
I haven't seemed to locate where User defined tokens are stored.

Hi Kevin,
Thank you for bringing this question to our attention. To answer your first two questions, I think what you need is to generate function trees. I have a tutorial link below for your reference.
http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/6503
You can permanently add dlls and user defined tokens by first creating the function tree. Once the function panels have been created, you just need to right click on Libraries and choose Customize Library Menu > browse and choose the function tree you just generated. This will add the dlls and user defined tokens into the library list.
In regard to your third question, I'm a little confused. MAX is basically a device/program manager for NI products. Are you trying to port device configurations into MAX? As far as installing a dll to MAX is concerned, that is not possible. However, if you could clarify your question a bit, maybe we can figure out a workaround.

  • How do I open the User Library on a "Firewire" Mac?

I recently replaced my trusty 2008 MacBook Pro with a new one. Not my choice, the video board or some such has tapped out. The new one is working great but I now have to retrieve some old emails. I can use the old Macbook as a "Firewire" drive using a connector I got at the Apple Store. But, as usual, I cannot get into the User Library on the old machine. I have the old boy backed up to Time Machine but I can't get to the User Library there either. I do not need a complete restore as I actually like the clean install of the newbie, but I do need to find these old emails. I have tried to import the email from TM through Mail but it just freezes up.
Amy suggestions? Can the geniuses at the Apple Store retrieve this stuff?
And by the way, why does Apple feel it necessary to hide the User Library when I can go into the System Folder and Library and gum up the works there? What are they protecting me from. Currently I have used a Terminal command that allows me to see my User Library but it won't work on the Mac that is used as an external drive. Unless someone can tell me a Terminal command that would activate that too.
    Thank you.

They are protecting you from yourself who likes to go in and gum up the works.
    Exposing the /Home/Library/ Folder
Pick one of the following methods:
    A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.
    B. Click on the Desktop, press the OPTION (⌥) button, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.
    C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field:
    ~/Library
    Press the Go button.

Numbers does not open with the main user after installing mountain lion. It works flawlessly when I use the second account on my mac. What got corrupted in the admin-account, something in the user-library? How can I fix it? I´m kinda desperate... (the same happens with the other iWork-Apps!)
Looking forward to hearing from somebody with a littlemore expertise than me, Chris

you can remove preferences files by navigating to the Preferences folder for your user as follows:
    0) Quit ALL iWork apps (Keynote, Pages and Numbers)
    1) from the Finder select the menu item "Go > Go To Folder…".  This will bring up a dialog:
    2) enter the path "~/Library/Preferences" (no double quotes)
    3) find the files:
    com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
and move these to the trash.  I would NOT empty until later.
    4) restart Numbers

  • I desperately need to access my User Library folder in Time Machine (Lion so = not visible).

Hi. I installed Lion a few months ago and got a new external drive to back up Time Machine.
Nobody told me the User Library would be made hidden in the new OS. I have been backing up regularly in the belief that all my work, settings and so on was safe.
Yesterday my iMac (27" 2.8 Ghz Core it with 4 gib memory) suddenly went mad. Message saying finder had quit whilst trying to restore windows. Desktop was flashing, no icons clickable, no external disks readable. Could access some progs and terminal, but nothing else. Could not get into the history folder to trash various plists and so on as the folder is hidden and the alt Go wouldn't work. The Finder just wouldn't do anything.
I have sorted it out BUT I have lost my address book entries, my browser booksmarks, my desktop shortcuts and my iCal entries. I need to access my User Library on my Time Machine. Is there a way?
I cannot believe I have been religiously backing up my stuff but Apple has made it so I can't access my backup of one of the most important folders on my Time Machine???
Is there anyway of getting into this from Terminal or something? I will never be able to get back all the bookmarks and stuff I've been researching for years. I have it backed up on two different hard drives, both of which have 'invisible' library folders. I have make the folder visible now, for future backups, but it's after the horse has bolted. I am furious, and just feel like bursting into tears because of all the time it's going to take me to get all my work back. I can't tell you how stupid this was, Apple.
If someone could help I'd be really grateful. I've got older backups but they are so old they won't get back my recent stuff.
    Thanks.

    select Finder
hole option key and select Go in the menu
    Select Library
    Enter Time Machine
You should be seeing all the versions of you Library folder.

  • How do I move users, including my user library (which is invisible) to a different hard drive?,

I have two 750 GB hard drives in my new mac mini.  Lion is installed on hard drive A and I want to move users to hard drive B.  I have dragged the user files from HD A to HD B and have re-mapped the users to the folders.  Turns out, in Lion the users libraries are hidden and won't copy.  I can unhide them (using Finder, go to folder, ~/Library, GO).  But it will not let me copy the library folders because it is invisible.

Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder and paste this to unhide the user library:
    sudo chflags nohidden ~/Library
Hit enter and put your password in.

  • How to get a color profile stored in a user library from within Photoshop CS5

    Hi!
I have a specific color profile that I want to load int PS CS5 color settings. I've placed it into my user library/application support/adobe/color/settings folder and all was good. Now i'm in PS and can't find the user library to load the settings. (Interestingly enough, I have no problem getting into the system library. Go figure) Any ideas?
    -Marcia

Apple has hidden ~/Library starting with Lion. You can put Adobe Color Settings files, *.csf, into /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Settings instead of the user folder; and ICC profiles belong in /Library/ColorSync/Profiles.
Or you can unhide ~/Library with this command in Terminal:
    sudo chflags nohidden ~/Library/

  • How can I access the user library of the other users on my iMac?

I am in the process of changing the HDD on my iMac (Seagate 1 TB - free of charge exchange from Apple). As I have had some problems with my kids' user accounts I want to set it all up as new when I get it back.
Challenge is ofcourse that they have played some games and they want to keep their levels etc, and this is stored in their users' Library. How can I access this from my own account or from a back-up? I have both a Time Machine back-up and a CarbonCopyCloner.

I am trying to back up my mail (5.1) directories but I can no longer locate them. They used to be in the user library. Would be grateful for some assistance.

They're stil there;  Apple decided to hide your Library folder.  Hold the Alt/Option key while selecting Go in a Finder menubar and select Library.
Do you have other backups, made with a proper backup app?  If not, that's the best way to back up your data, rather than doing it "piecemeal" via drag & drop.
You might want to review the Time Machine Tutorial, and perhaps browse Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Where did the User Library folder go?

I installed OSX 10.7 yesterday and was quite excited to do so, and by day two I am regretting it.  whether it is the uslessness of launchpad, to all of the old things i find missing.  One thing i just noticed was that i cant find is the User Library folder.  The system Library folder is there but not the user.  am i missing something?  oh and getting rid of front row?  why?  i watched trailers there all the time!...sorry sorry...off topic.  grr

    Use the following:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/
Generally, ~ should be used instead of manually providing the home folder path.

Many of the users on my school network cannot save their Photoshop files to a specified folder. Instead the files are automatically saved to User/Library/Caches/Temporary Items folder.
I've changed the File Handling Preferences with no results in changing this issue. Since a couple users did not experience this problem, I'm wondering if it might be a permissions problem.

  • I want to open a domain.site2 file outside the default folder (User/Library/Application Support/iWeb) with iWeb11, but iWeb only opens the domain file in the default folder. If I delete the default domain file, iWeb wants to create a new site. Help please

I want to open a domain.site2 file outside the default folder (User/Library/Application Support/iWeb) with iWeb11, but iWeb only opens the domain file in the default folder. If I delete the default domain file, iWeb wants to create a new site. Does anyone have the same problem or know how to fix it?

In Lion the Finder folder is now invisible.  To make it permanetely visible enter the following in the Terminal applicaiton window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an applicaiton.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate

  • Can't install fonts in user/library/fonts folder

I have a problem which has a number of different symptoms (I presume they are related as they all started at the same time):
I can't install any fonts into my user/library/fonts folder. Or, rather, I can install them but they vanish about five seconds later
I have three files on my desktop. Every 60 seconds (precisely) they vanish for about a second and then reappear
Seemingly randomly, but always when I empty the trash, I get a message saying "The last time you opened Finder, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?"
The error message I get in (3) above always disappears when the desktop files blink as in (2) above.
These problems only started in the last 24 hours. Yesterday I installed an update which took me to Mail 6.6. I also installed a Microsoft update to Word. I also installed an update for TechTool Pro taking me from v6 to v7.
    Solutions I have tried:
I have checked SMART status (no problems)
I have verified volume structures (no problems)
I have reset boot and kernel caches
    I have deleted font caches
I have reset home directory permissions and ACLs
I'm running a MacBookPro with Mountain Lion 10.8.5
I am stuck, puzzled, frustrated but hopeful that someone in this community can help me out.
If you can, I would be so very very grateful.

If I am reading it correctly, do I boot using the drive copy, change premissions using utility, then reboot using the original drive? Is there another way to repair premissions, change password?

Also when I called Wacom support they actually had me create a new user account to install the software. It's odd that I can install the fonts in the applications folder in one user account but they do not show up in the administrator account.
As I stated, if that new account was an admin one, the fonts should be available to all users. Alternatively, they might be user specific, but you'll have to ask Wacom about that.

  • In Lion, how do I access a user library in a backup?

I am trying to retrieve an iPad backup, but Apple hid the user library not only in my account, but also in my backups! How do I get to my library in a backup? I already know how to get it to show in my active account(option+click "Go"), I just want one of my backups for my iPad prior to the IOS 5 update.

Bring up the Library in your active account with the Option click Go method you already know.  Then click the Time Machine icon.  You should have a Finder window open to Library with the backups behind.

  • Can not enable fonts for User library in Font Book

    Hi all,
For some reason I can not enable the user library in the font book using the options in the font book. This means that the User Library is "off". I have tried the following but none of them have worked:
    * Reboot.
    * Delete the Font preferance file.
    * Undo the font book via booting in safe mode and then rebooting in normal mode. Delete the trash which contains the font cache.
    * Manually insert fonts into User>Library>Fonts and restart.
    * Manually empty user fonts folder and re-insert fonts back in.
    * Delete the user fonts folder and re-create it and insert all fonts back in
Have also tried a few combinations of the above but none of them have worked. I do not want to use the system library fonts folder as this machine is on a network and the users should not have admin rights to their machines.
I have also checked the user rights to the user fonts folder and all seems ok there.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem so that I can enable the User font library?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Slack

I have found that for me, on both a PowerMac G5 and an Intel iMac, both running 10.4.8 with all updates, turning on FileVault reliably causes the problem. I.E., if FontBook is working fine on an account which does not have FileVault turned on and I turn on FileVault, then the User collection in FontBook is greyed out and Enable "User" doesn't work. If FileVault is on, none of the suggested work-arounds that I have read about in these discussions or in Apple's support articles help.
Sometimes, turning off FileVault is sufficient. Other times, I must turn off FileVault and follow the work-around in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302551 . Sometimes, I must turn off FileVault, throw away the FontBook preferences and restart.
