User Profile Service Application Sync issue.

Hi,
I have created user profile in two different environment and uses the same account ,same ou is selected and same filter is set.
but the no of user profile in each environment is different from the other.
I have checked the filter order also.
Is there any way to check why it is different from different environment.
Thanks
Sudan

You'll get some differences based on which service accounts have logged on. Anyone who isn't included in the filter but does log onto SharePoint will also get an entry in the sytem.
Your best shot on a definitive answer is to export the list of profiles from the UPS using powershell from both environments and then compare the lists for additions/omissions.

When trying to create a new user profile service application on a new SharePoint install I get the following error:

Has anybody seen this issue before?

I had the same problem and could not figure out what was wrong for the longest time.  I then had the idea to check in the model system database to see if there were any extra custom tables in that database.  Any tables that are in the model database
are put into any new database when it is created.  I had some custom tables in the model database so I deleted the custom tables in the model database and deleted the failed user profile service application and its databases and then tried to recreate
the user profile service application again and it worked with no errors

  • User profile service incremental sync failure

Hi all, I'm working for a client that has a failing UPS incremental sync. The scheduled sync was running fine until a couple of weeks ago when it suddenly stopped working. Coincidently, this was also at the same time that they noticed the incremental search
crawl and UPS audience compilation timer jobs failing. A timer service stop/start fixed the search/audience compilation problems, but they’re still having issues with the UPS incremental sync. I see the following errors in the ULS when the sync fails (nothing
    logged in FIM operations window):

The management agent appears in FIM, but isn’t displayed in SharePoint CA (UPS SA). At present we have a few test MA’s that appear in FIM but not in SharePoint CA (UPS SA).
I’m at a loss as to why this incremental sync has stopped working. It’s also strange that test sync connections are appearing in FIM despite error displayed in CA when provisioning them. Stranger sill, the test sync connections don’t appear in CA, but appear
    in FIM.
Potential next steps include resetting the profile synchronization DB as detailed here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff681014(v=office.14).aspx#resetSync. If anyone has had any other suggestions, I’d be very grateful to hear about
    them.
    Many thanks

Try to start full sync, and if it also stop with the same error - try to reset Sync DB using this script:
    $SyncDB = "<Sync DB name>"
    $UserProfilesName = "<User Profile Service Application name>"
    net stop sptimerv4
    $SDB=Get-SPDatabase | where {$_.Name -eq $SyncDB}
    $SDB.Unprovision()
    $SDB.Status='Offline'
    $UPS = Get-SPServiceApplication | where {$_.Displayname -eq $UserProfilesName }
    $UPS.ResetSynchronizationMachine()
    $UPS.ResetSynchronizationDatabase()
    $SDB.Provision()
    net start sptimerv4

  • Running multiple User Profile Service Applications -- recommendations, pitfalls, etc.

I have a farm with one WFE, one APP, and one SQL server. The User Profile Service runs on both WFE and APP, the User Profile Sync Service is on the APP server. There is a single User Profile service application running that pulls from 4 different AD
import sources: two in the US, one in London, and one in Mexico.
There is a nightly incremental synch.
There is an issue where the London users need the synch to occur hourly.
There are some complexities with one of the US sources in that would make it difficult to run the current User Profile service hourly, plus there is a performance concern.
I'm interested in possibly creating a second User Profile Service Application that reads only from London and runs hourly.
Beyond creating the User Profile service and scheduling hourly, what should I be concerned about?
Will I need to (re)create new Audiences based on those from the original User Profile Service App? Run them immediately after User Profiles? Will there be an interruption in access during that gap?
    Recreate custom User Properties?
    Recreate any Forefront modifications?
    New Profile/Sync/Social DBs?
    etc?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to use multiple user profile service application.
Yes, you can do it. Only one user profile application can be configured to work with the Profile Synchronization Instance. If you want more UPS instance, you need to start UPS on different server.

    Abhishek Madan

    Hi Abhishek,
According to your description, my understanding is that the User Profile Synchronization service stuck on ‘Starting’ or ‘Stopping’.
Please check whether you installed SQL 2012 Native Client (Pre-requisites) on SharePoint server. If yes, download and install SQL 2008 R2 Native Client from the below location:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/1/3/9138773A-505D-43E2-AC08-9A77E1E0490B/1033/x64/sqlncli.msi
From the SharePoint server ->control panel -> add/Remove programs , please confirm that the SQL 2008 Native Client is listed.
Make sure that the farm account is a member of the Administrators group on the server on which you are trying to start the User Profile Synchronization service, then restart the SharePoint Timer Service.
Set the FIM services to "Local System" before starting the service.
There is a troubleshooting for User Profile Synchronization Service start issues, please have a look at:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg750257(v=office.14).aspx
Here are some similar posts for you to take a look at:

  • User Profile Service Application - User Profile Incremental Synchronization

We have USer profile inplace. however User Profile service application does not auto run.
We need to run it. It does not automatically starts.
Please mark answer , if you think answer is helpful or correct.

The definitive guide on setting up and troubleshooting the User Profile Synchronization Server is Spence Harbar's Rational Guide to implementing SharePoint Server 2010 User Profile Synchronization.
This guide details the steps you need to perform to set up profile synchronization as well as details most of the common errors you will see with their resolution methods.
I recommend following this guide and if you still continue to have issues come back here with the specific details of the issue you are having.

  • Initiall SharePoint Server 2013 setup -- unable to manage new User Profile Service Application

During initial farm setup, creating an initial User Profile Service Application works fine.  However, once it's created, I cannot 'manage' it through the Manage Service Applications page in central
    admin.
I get a generic error (Sorry, something went wrong / unexpected error) with a correlation ID that doesn't seem to match any ULS log entries. (Yes, I merged logs from all machines in the farm.)
A Windows event log entry says:
A failure was reported when trying to invoke a service application: Endpoint Failure
Also frequent errors in ULS logs:  (see below)
    UserProfileApplicationNotAvailableException
User Profile Application      Proxy failed to retrieve partitions from User Profile Application: Micro…
    SPDistributedCache DataCacheException
I did notice that the file 'ProfileService.svc does not exist in SharePoint's web services app at the URL you see in the error. (below)
I also found it interesting that the event log error shows 1 active endpoint and 3 failed endpoints.  I have 2 WFEs and 2 app servers.  But I'm only trying to get the user profile service app running on the application
servers.  I have deleted and recreated this service app several times under various names (deleted/recreated its app pool as well) and wonder if these other failed endpoints could be orphans from previous instances...
Any thoughts on how I might successfully create this service application?  I've already been Binging my head against a wall long enough that I would have been better off reinstalling the entire farm...  I may still
    do that.
FYI, my farm came from a slipstreamed SP1 install package, and received the July CU after several other things were already configured, including the already-failed UP service application.

  • How to merge User Profile Service Applications

We have a SP 2010 farm with UPSA and some the users have edited their profile properties in that. We have planned to move the web application from SP 2010 farm to SP 2013 farm which already has a user profile service application in it.
Both the SP2010 and SP2013 farms are using same AD.
What we need after upgrading to SP 2013,
    1. The edited user profile properties should be updated in the SP 2013 farm
    2. SP 2013 farm should have only one UPSA.
Please help to migrate the UPSA from SP 2010 and merge with the existing 2013 UPSA.
    Thanks
    Ramkumar

    Hi Ramkumar,
Per my knowledge, we cannot merge the two user profile service application.
If you need the custom user properties in your User profile service application in SharePoint 2013, I recommend to create a mapping to export the user properties to AD from SharePoint 2010 user profile service application and then create a mapping to import
the user properties to user profile service application in SharePoint 2013.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/tehnoonr/archive/2010/11/22/mapping-user-profile-properties-in-sharepoint-2010-to-ldap-attributes.aspx
Or you just need to migrate the User Profile service application from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 and use this instead of the existing User Profile service application in SharePoint 2013.

  • Publishing user profile service application in SharePoint 2010

Hi,  Can I have a link specific to publishing the user profile service application in a step by step manner in SharePoint 2010. This is quite urgent.

Hope the below link will be helpful

  • Sharepoint 2010 User Profile Service Application

Should I have the need to completely delete and reinstall the User Profile Service Application, will that prevent user logins. We have a great number of users with various grouped and departmentalized permissions and such. I am trying to determine if it
is completely safe to delete the UPSA without messing up the permissions and logins. Please advise.

Your UPA deletion will not effect permission on sharepoint site.

  • User Profile Service Not Syncing Membership Groups

We have noticed that since moving to SharePoint 2013 user memberships and followed sites on users mysites are not updating to remove sites that no longer exist or add new sites into the list.  I tried the steps that used to fix this under 2010 outlined
here: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2703630 but they do not seem to resolve the issue anymore.  Has anyone had this happen to them in 2013 and figured out the steps to resolve it?  To me it looks like the UserProfileService is not able to find
or refresh memberships into the user profile databases.  Normally this is a permissions issue but the farm account and the account running the user profile service both have full control to the content databases.

    Hi Matthew,
Per my knowledge, the Memberships web part is not fully supported in SharePoint 2013, and the memberships in SharePoint sites cannot be updated.
The links below is for Office 365, however it’s true for SharePoint 2013:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2858263
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/76778087-60e3-4720-ae50-5d2d359f1be9/my-membership-web-part-cannot-be-use-for-my-site?forum=sharepointdevelopment
As a workaround, you can use the new feature Following to follow the sites in SharePoint 2013:

  • User Profile Service and Sync Service

I will be using Active Directory security groups to manage my SharePoint 2013 internal and external users. These groups will be put into SharePoint Groups. Is User Profile sync required to insure group members stay in sync between our 2 ADs and the SharePoint
resources or is AD checked whenever a user accesses a resource?
    Love them all...regardless. - Buddha

The groups that users are a member of will be included in the user's token during authentication.  But SharePoint does use the User profile sync to identify AD groups that are used by the users.  So User Profile Sync is a necessary part of the
    whole process.

  • Workflow Manager & User Profile Service Application for Extranet Web application

    Hi,
Recently i have setup HA WF Manager farm and associated it with Intranet web application (on-prem). Now i want to use the same farm for our extranet environment (on-prem) but extranet environment is not associated with UPA. Since user profile application
is not available for extranet environment so workflow does not work.
Now if I try to use existing UPA or create a new UPA for extranet environment, then i am exposing users data to all partner and collaborators. But for workflows to work it is necessary that users profile should be there in profile database.
Is there any way that I can run workflows in extranet environment without exposing user profile data to partners/collaborators? Thanks.
    -Prashant

Thanks for the reply Paul, but this does not solve the problem.
Actually in MySite web application external users group is not at all added with any permissions but just to check your suggestion i have given permission to externals group with Deny Read permission. Now UPA is associated to the extranet web application
and when i access user profile data using RESP API using a partner account I can still see the data. For e.g. I am using this URL
    https://extranet.abc.com/_api/SP.UserProfiles.PeopleManager/GetPropertiesFor(accountName=@v)?@v='abc\uname'
When I hit this URL in browser using partner account, it shows the profile data of the account passed in the URL.
MySite web application is https://mysite.abc.com and on this web application external users group is added under policy with Deny Read permissions. Thanks.

  • User Profile Services - Sync Connection disappearing after a few days - "Moss MA not found"

    Hi,
This may sound like a common problem but i can't seem to find a solution.
I recently installed a SharePoint 2010 farm. The farm is currently SP1, Aug12 CU.
I created the user profile service application without any problems and created a connection, sync worked...everything was fine. Few days after, i noticed the connection disappeared! I tried recreating it but i got the above error. Tried deleting the SA
and recreating it but still the same.
    I checked everything:
    - FIM services are started
    - User profile services (both) are started
    - It is not an AD connection timeout (error comes up in a second and containers populate just fine)
    - All permissions were given correctly (keep in mind this has worked before)
    - Tried updating to the Aug12 CU
Then i remembered i installed the farm with the sql servers mapped with FQDN instead of NETBIOS or Alias.
That led me to try to enable netbios on the SA via PowerShell but to no avail.
So basically my question is...is there anything i can do or is re installing the farm the only solution?

    Hi All,
Trevor, L:ooks like your suggestion works I juts tried creating a UPS with the FQDN and then changed to using the NetBIOS name. But the caveat is I am not using the NetBIOS name as the default database, I am using another DB Servet
Whatever we do at this point needs to be tested in DEV so we need DEV Server. I have never seen an environment successfully maintained using the FDQN  If it were mr I would have already rebuilt it only takes 90 minutes or so to stand a an environment
    up.
Would It would be better to Build another farm next to the first one and remove the content dbs from the old farm and move them to the new one and attaché them to new WebApps.  I think it would take less time and be healthier in the long run
to move away from using the FQDN for SQL Completely, I don't believe its supported anyway..
This post from an MSDN Blog is titled NEVER, NEVER, AGAIN. Its just one example.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/momalek/archive/2010/10/29/never-again-never-use-a-fqdn-for-the-sharepoint-2010-sql-server-name.aspx
I should have said this when I wrote the rename response, its really to attempt the rename or start over... Though Trevor is correct, if you specify the NetBIOS name of the instance when creating the UPS it will work.. Shame I didn't think of it,Trevor
    you rock..
Trevor, I would like to get your thoughts as well??? To build another Farm or to continue using the one you have with an FQDN?
