Using a different wireless connection?

HP3522 has been on our satellite wireless network and working just fine, but due a blizzard, that network is not working.  I've turned on our Sprint wireless hotspot and computer is working great, but printer won't work.  How do I set the printer up on a different network?

Hi audrey305,
I am not sure if this is still relevant, but when the network switch is temporary I would have to advise using a USB cable instead.  Changing network settings on some models is more involved.
In this instance, you would have to disconnect the printer from the normal network and then connect it to the temporary network.  And then you would need to change the software on the computer because it is likely that the network address was changed on the printer because of the new network.  This might require uninstalling and then installing the software to get the change to work.
On most versions of Windows, simply plugging in a USB cable will at least let printing work without too much trouble.
I was an HP employee.

  • External speakers/different wireless connection

Can I use airport express to connect external powered speakers while I am connected to a different wireless connection. I am trying to use my speakers in my offices wirelessly but need to be connected to the office internet either through ethernet or wifi. Is there a way to do that? Thanks

Basically, no. Unless you reconfigure the AirPort Express to join the office's existing Wi-Fi network as a wireless client, you'd have to "switch" Wi-Fi networks between iTunes streaming and accessing the Internet.
If you are allowed to join the company network, please check out the following Apple Support article on how to get your Express configured for streaming.

Hi. I have temporarily moved away from home. I am using a different internet connection, and I have lost my bookmarks. How do I get them back?

Generally speaking, your bookmarks are private to your computer, and if you set up multiple Firefox profiles on your computer, to the one profile.
Your bookmarks might be available to you at another location if you used the Sync service. In order to connect a new computer to the Sync service when you aren't near your old computer, you need a recovery key. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/share-bookmarks-tabs-and-more-your-other-computers#w_what-if-im-not-near-my-first-computer
If you didn't use Sync or can't access your account, someone with access to your old computer could email you your bookmarks. Since there is a range of different ways to do that and the best choice might depend on what you can expect the person you ask to be able to do... could they start up Firefox in your profile and follow menu steps to export a file? Could they drill down into a hidden folder on the system, zip a file, and mail that to you? Etc.

  • How to print from different wireless connection on same network

I can print wirelessly when I am in range of the wifi to which my computer and attached printer connect. However, when I go to a different wifi connection within the same network, I cannot print. How can I my wifi connections on same network talk to each other so that I can print from second wifi site on same network?

The problem is you loaded the printer directly and now do not have it plugged in.. so delete the printer in the control panel.. then setup the printer again.. this time connect to it as network printer. The bonjour should make it available as a network resource..
Tell me if you still run into trouble doing that. You may need to load the IP of the TC manually..
Window7 has higher security level than xp.. and that can sometimes also cause issues.
Are you using SMB compliant names for the TC, wireless and printer??
Can the windows 7 computer get internet via the TC? Can you ping it?
Look up how to reduce the security level in windows to match xp.. I don't remember the details but you have to do some nifty footwork.

    Hello mediterranean,
Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support. Are you having trouble getting a wireless connection on your Ubuntu machine? This is probably not the best forum for Ubuntu or Nexus 7 questions, but you might try taking a look at this article:

  • Using iPhone as Wireless Connection

Does anyone know if the iPhone can be connected to your computer so that it can be used as your wireless internet connection instead of an aircard?

No, it cannot. This is called tethering and is not supported by iphone or AT&T. There was an article on CNet that it may happen sometime in 2009.

  • Can OS X Lion be used without a wireless connection?

I have two wired networked Mac Minis with track balls. Can't figure out what I would need to upgrade or change to use Lion. Would I need to go wireless?

From the How to Buy web site...
    To upgrade on day one:
    Step 1:
Make sure your Mac can run Lion.
Your Mac must have an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor to run Lion. Find out if your current Mac has one of these processors by clicking the Apple icon at the top left of your screen, then choosing About This Mac.
    Step 2:
Make sure you have the latest version of Snow Leopard.
Get up to date with the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard to purchase OS X Lion from the Mac App Store. If you have Snow Leopard, click the Apple icon and choose Software Update to install the latest version.
    Step 3:
Download OS X Lion from the Mac App Store.
When OS X Lion is released in July, open the Mac App Store from your Dock to buy and download it. Then follow the onscreen instructions to install Lion.
Here is the link to the site.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/how-to-buy/
If you want to buy on the day it is released, this how you will have to go about it. If you have a working Internet connection and you can connect to the Mac App Store you should be able to download it. Don't see why wireless will be necessary.
Make sure your Mac meets the requirements. You will probably have to upgrade to 10.6.7 as well.

  • Video streaming using third-party wireless connection

    Hey,
I just loaded a new website (www.j3motorsport.com) and it has flash movie
banner on top, which stops playing while its loading. I have the same problem watching videos on youtube.com. Are there any settings in Airport Extreme I can adjust to speed load time up? any help would be welcomed.
    Best,
    Michael

    Welcome to the discussions.
This really depends on the type of connection you are
    using, more than anything else.
If you are on Dial up that, I am sorry to say goes
    with the territory.
You shouldn't be having a problem over DSL or Cable.
The transfer rate on the Airport Extreme Base is not
    the issue.
It may also be a direct result from the type of
player and the settings used. Many will offer 56k or
DSL, or Cable settings when viewing video content.
It could also be caused by the developer of the site,
and what format they used to render there projsct and
the technolgy, Real Player, Windows Media Player,
    Quicktime, Macromedia Flash,
On some occasions you may have to download there
players to get the video to work as well.
    Cheers Don
    Don,
Thanks for the response. I'm using cable internet, and the site is one I had developed. the flash banners in that site are made with flash 8, and they stream fine over my direct DSL connection at my office. I haven't tried directly connecting here, because I'm afraid I'll screw up my wireless settings. any advice?
    Thanks again,
    Michael

  • How can I use two different wireless home phone terminals, different locations, one at a time same phone number

I have two locations and want to have a wireless home phone at each location with the same home phone number. Only one terminal will be used at a time.

That's not what a cell phone is.
You are talking about some kind of a separate communication system.  Like a walkie talkie or something that works over broadcast.  IP phones may be able to do something like that but you would somehow have to register the system to a single cell phone number, which wont work without a SIM card.

  • Airtunes to old Express using TC as wireless connection

Obviously a Newbie. Can't figure out how to use the Express (b/g) to get music to our stereo.
Should the AE be part of the TC network or a standalone component to move music to the stereo (yes, I do know it needs to be wired to the stereo!)
What should the setting on the TC look like?
Have read the manuals (are the translated from some foreign language?) but what I need is the Idiot's Guide. Any help would be appreciated.

i have two old express units (b/g) that join the wireless network created by my sim dual band TC. i'm streaming content to them as i'm typing this.
What should the setting on the TC look like?
nothing special, really. just have it create a wireless network. you may want to put a tick in the box next to +allow this network to be extended+ (though you old express cannot extend it).

  • How to use both wired and wireless connection with static addresses

Now that I have setup my home network with static addresses (router, mini1, mini2 and PC) in the way I want, (big thanks to BDAqua http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1271635&tstart=0) I would like to understand some more advanced network concepts.
I would like to change the network so that I use both the wireless connection and the built-in ethernet connection at the same time in my Mac mini1. I would like to connect my PC to my Mac mini by using the wired ethernet connection so that I reach the Internet from my PC as well. I would also like to be in control of all the addresses therefore I want to assign the addresses manually.
The question: What addresses should I use between mini1 and PC? Should I use the same wireless address space as I already use between the wireless router and the other computers (router: 192.168.1.1, mini1: 192.168.1.101, mini2: 192.168.1.103) or should I use something totally different like 10.X.X.X? What should I put in ethernet connection "Router"-field, the same as in Airport (192.168.1.1)? What about DNS, same as in Airport?

If I understand this correctly, you wish your Mini to perform Internet Sharing for your PC, correct!?
If so you'll pretty much have to let the Mini handle DHCP & NAT on the Ethernet port. You also want to be sure Airport is dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations, that's what position the Mini will use 1st for Internet itself.
On the Mini turn on both Web Sharing & Internet Sharing. The PC once connected will have the Mini's Ethernet IP as it's Gateway addy.

  • TC & MBP - complete loss of wireless connection and usage

I apologise in advance if this is a very long winded post! I've been an Apple fan for some 20 years now and it's only in the last three months that my love affair is starting to wane due to (what seems to me) poor hardware releases.
    My setup:
    1 x PowerBook G4 1.25Ghz with Edimax 802.11n PC Card
    1 x MBP 2.4Ghz (purchased April 2008) with AirPort 802.11n
    1 x Time Capsule 500Gb
1 x Airport Extreme Base Station Gigabit Ethernet edition
    1 x Netgear DG384 v2 (wired only) modem router
1 x standard ADSL connection (8Mbps) from a UK ISP (and yes, 8Mb is about the norm for the UK! Though in reality, it means closer to 4Mb...)
The Netgear router is connected to the ADSL line and is set up as the DHCP server for the network. I have a Fixed IP address from my ISP. The Time Capsule is connected via ethernet to the Netgear router. The TC is set up in Bridge mode as the router serves DHCP. The TC is wall mounted via the excellent AirMount from H-Squared.
The TC has been through a myriad of configurations in an attempt to create a stable wireless environment since its purchase in April. Prior to my recent holiday (two weeks in Greece - hurrah!), the current configuration was solid for both Macs.
The config is: Bridge mode; 2.4Ghz N Only wireless; WPA2 secured; no MAC address access control restrictions (so pretty straightforward). The TC is running firmware 7.3.1. It is setup as "Create a Wireless Network"
Both Macs are running OS X 10.5.3 with all of the latest updates including AirPort Utility 5.3.2.
It took me about six weeks to hit upon this config for the TC having had many wireless drop outs, stalled connections, lost internet connections (ie. I could access the TC HDD but could not access the internet using the same wireless connection). So much frustration in the early days - I tried many of the solutions on this forum but to no avail until I hit upon the 2.4Ghz N Only route which seemed to be the answer to all my problems.
Prior to leaving on holiday, I unplugged all of the equipment in the room including the TC and the router. When I returned, I restarted everything in a logical sequence - router first (and waited for a connection), then the TC and then the Macs.
From this point on the problems have started. The PB G4 with the wireless card has a more or less stable connection. The wireless card connects immediately to the TC but then it takes approximately 30-60 seconds for an internet connection to work (so I see a lot of the Not connected to the internet messages in Safari). It seems to immediately get an IP address from the router via the TC but then the internet connection itself takes a while to come up.
The MPB on the other hand is a nightmare. Since returning from holiday I have not been able to get a workable wireless connection at all. In no particular order, the problems that the MBP exhibits are as follows (these can occur at the same time or individually):
    i) only returns a self-assigned IP address; renewing the DHCP lease does not fix the problem
ii) does not see the network at all (although it will see others in the vicinity)
iii) cannot connect to the network - returns the Connection Timeout error or very occasionally the Password Incorrect error; I have tried connecting the network via the AirPort menu bar item, via Join another network... from the menu bar, via the Network selection menu in System Preferences > Network and even via Internet Connect - all with no success
iv) sometimes I am able to connect to the network but no IP address is received. Having checked the TC logs, it shows the same error occurring over and over again:
    Jun 26 22:06:04 Severity:5 Associated with station 00:1e:c2:ba:78:6c
    Jun 26 22:06:07 Severity:5 Deauthenticating with station 00:1e:c2:ba:78:6c (reserved 2).
    Jun 26 22:06:07 Severity:5 Disassociated with station 00:1e:c2:ba:78:6c
The MBP connects but is immediately thrown off the network.
So to all intents and purposes, the wireless aspect of the MBP and the TC are completely useless.
When I use a wired (ethernet) connection to the TC everything is joyful. Instant IP address assignment, excellent connection speeds, no drop outs and so on. So as far as I can ascertain, the TC is working fine with the exception of the wireless/wireless security.
The AEBSn that is connected to the same network no longer appears in Airport Utility.
Having read through many posts here, I have tried many solutions including:
    - downgrading the FW to 7.3; no difference at all
    - turning off wireless security; no difference at all
    - changing channels; I've tried 1, 6, 9, 11 and 13 with no difference at all
    - changing the wireless mode; B/G, G only, N only all make no difference (I can't use 5Ghz N only as the PB G4 does not support this and I need both Macs wirelessly connected)
    - rebooting the TC (both via Airport Utility and 'power off'); makes no difference
    - reinstalled OS X 10.5.1 (via the install disks that came with the MBP) using the Archive & Install feature; then used the Combo updater to upgrade directly to 10.5.3; once again, no difference.
I have not yet done a hard reset as this has made no difference in the past but obviously I will try it.
    In other words, HELP!
I am stymied. I have tried so many solutions offered on here and on the likes of MacFixIt and other Mac forums none of which have brought back my wireless connection for the MBP.
The MBP works very well with other wireless connection. For example, at work, we have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router connected to a BT leased line. I have not had a single connection issue for three months with this setup. Similarly, whilst on holiday, I used many different hot spots and had no issues with the wireless connection. All of this evidence leads me to suspect that the MBP is not the issue.
From what I can tell, the problem seems to be in the wireless security on the TC. It seems to prevent access by MBP (though not the PB G4 using a wireless card) but disabling security did not change the error messages shown in the log or the lack of connectivity.
It is a real shame that I cannot get a satisfactory working environment with the TC as the concept is great. The reality is, however, that it is unusable in its current condition and loathe as I am to try and return it or replace it, I am rapidly coming the conclusion I will have to.
Before I do, however, I am hoping that the genii who exist on these forums may be able to proffer some ideas or solutions that I haven't yet tried.
My sincere thanks will go to anyone who provides a solution for me. There may even be beer involved as a mark of gratitude!!
Thanks for reading and fingers crossed someone knows something special...

Smokerz: thanks for the reply and the advice. Not really in a position to set up a dual network at the moment due to the positioning of the TC and the AEBS but if I get an opportunity to try it I will.
I have temporarily given up with the TC as the router for the wireless network. I've installed a Vigor 2820n modem router (it's the only one I could find that has a Gigabit port - only one though) as well being a modem (ADSL) router. Thus far, everything seems fine - although I have had a couple of drop outs due (I think) the AirPort connection on the MBP. And interestingly, I've set up the TC as a "test" wireless network using the Vigor's internet connection and it's way more stable than with the Netgear router. So perhaps it's a combination of many factors - the poor Netgear router, the TC and the MBP AirPort connection - that was causing the issues.
I'll give 10.5.4 a go as well and see if that helps at all.
Thanks to all who read the question - if anyone else has thoughts I'd be delighted to hear them.

  • Painfully slow wireless connection with Time Capsule

I have recently bought and changed over my home wireless to a Time Capsule 2TB, which I wanted for both the backup and the ease in home networking. I have set up the wireless network and since day one it has been painfully slow! I have created two wireless networks, one for 2.4GHz and the other for 5GHz. I have been reading all over the web and boards but to no avail.  Any suggestions? I am about to give up on the time capsule completely! I couldn't even download my podcast tonight.
    Help!

Firstly plug in directly by ethernet to be sure there isn't a network issue on wan side.
Are you testing on multiple computers .. Mac and/or PC?? Which ones. and what network cards are being used?
Try and remove anything that uses G wireless and throw away any B wireless. It will not work together with N even if it is an option.
Turn off the guest network if you have it on.
Have you used a wireless analyser like kismac or inssider for pc? Find the free channels and set the wireless to that. Use no security at first to test.. briefly.. and then select wpa2 personal. Is there any difference?
Do you have another wireless router running?? Were you using a different wireless router for comparison?
