Using a upgrade phone

If I upgraded someone else's line and received the phone, could that phone be activated on another line? Without ever being activated on the "intended" line instead of transferring upgrades, and would the old phone on that line still be able to be used on it's original line?
Thanks for any help! Much appreciated.

Are the two lines on the same account? (A family plan?) If so, then in most cases you can do this, although sometimes you will need to activate the phone on the "upgraded" line to accept the terms and conditions and contract extension, then activate on the line you really want it on. A call to customer service can usually get it activated on the correct line in the first place though.
If the two lines are on two separate accounts, then you will definitely need to activate the new phone on the upgraded line first, accept the T&C, then reactivate the old phone so that the new phone is available to activate on another account.

Phone number of the device is assigned by the carrier.
    Ask the carrier.

Thank you for the answers so far, but I'll make one correction: I said earlier that the Boston Globe website, boston.com, does not have a mobile site, and I would need to visit their regular website on my iPhone. Actually, I just found out that boston.com has a mobile site, so I'd obviously use that instead of the regular site. By doing that, I'd save a ton of data (I think). Does that change your answers?

  • Can I use my upgrade to gift a phone?

My girlfriends Bday is coming up and I was wondering if it was possible for me to use my upgrade to get her a new phone?
We both have ATT but on different accounts...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

She should put the IMEI on her account. It's really only necessary if she has ATT Asurion, but it's helpful if she needs to call tech support. Otherwise they won't know what phone she has.

  • HT4528 Is it possible to buy an iphone for yourself at the apple store when you're using an upgrade from a different phone number on your plan?

I broke my old phone a few days ago, and my phone number doesn't have an upgrade until the summer of next year. My dad offered me his upgrade, since he doesn't need a new phone and it would save me a few hundred dollars. Is it possible for me to go into the Apple store and purchase a new iPhone when I'm using an upgrade from a different phone number? I already cleared it over with the people at Verizon, who told me I could switch the upgrade over online.

    There are 2 issues here.
Some carriers REQUIRE a data plan in order to use an iPhone on their network. This requirement will vary from carrier to carrier. The iPhone is designed to be constantly connected. If you do not manually go in and turn off cellular data (not just 3G) The phone will attempt to connect to the Internet over the cellular data network. If you have your carrier specifically block these requests, you shouldn't be charged for them. If not, it could end up costing you lots of money you didn't expect. The other thing that will happen is things like visual voicemail will not work (if the carrier supports it to begin with) and you will get lots of messages about not being able to connect to cellular data if you're not in range of WiFi you can connect to. MMS messaging also will not work.
The second issue surrounds the statement: "use the iphone 4 with a standard cdma phone plan".
It is NOT possible to purchase an unlocked CDMA iPhone. ALL CDMA iPhones are locked to Verizon.

  • Phone dying and my mom used my upgrade

I've had the original Droid since 6/2010. I would be due for an upgrade soon, but my mom used it a few months ago. Her upgrade isn't until November, according to the My Verizon app on my phone. I'm not the account holder so I can't see on the web site.
Anyway, my phone isn't going to live that long. Any chance they would let me upgrade now?
When I plug my phone in to charge it resets or goes to a black screen with white text that says something about Bootloading.

Your best bet is probably to go into a Verizon store and talk to someone (I've heard calling in works too but I've never tried that myself).  You might be able to get someone to help you out.  I was talking to one store person and they said basically that they can't do anything for you unless you have less than a year on your contract (which you do).  From there, it's typically up to the store whether they want to help out or not (they usually budget some money for circumstantial upgrades or to waive certain fees, give accessories, etc).
That said, typically, phones can't be discounted past a certain point and sometimes, they'll try to make it up in other features, accessories, etc.  So even if you can't afford the full or "discounted" price of the phone, they might be able to help you out in one form or another.
Another option for you to get by til November is to take your mom's old phone, if it's in worse condition than yours.  Or have your mom use her old phone and YOU take her new upgrade that was actually YOUR upgrade.    But that's between you and your mom (and if she's paying the bills, you don't have a whole lot of leverage on that one).
    Good luck!

  • Do you have activate a upgrade phone, if you do not want to use it?

I have upgraded my line, but I want to keep the phone I currently have. I was going to sell the upgrade phone I bought a Glaxay S3. The question, is do I have to actiavte on my line, or does it have a clean ESN in the box? Can anyone activate it, or do I have to activate and then deactivate the phone first? Any help would be appreacated. Thanks alot.

What exactly are you asking??? If you asking if it still needs to be activated, yes.
Will you lose your unlimited data, yes.
Give me a better idea on what you are wanting to know

  • Upgrade to iphone 5 using another upgrade

I have 5 lines on my plan. Only one line is a smart phone which is a droid and is not eligible for an upgrade until May 2013. 3 of the other lines on my plan our eligible for an upgrade but are not smart phones. Would I be able to use one of these upgrades for the iPhone 5 and activate it to the line that my Droid is on? My only concern is committing to another data plan on a line that is not a smart phone. Thanks for your help

Thank you mdram4x4 for your response. I appreciate you taking the time to help our fellow community members.
    @mf1776,
I understand you not wanting to add an additional data plan on a line that will not be needing it. As mdram4x4 mentioned you can use the upgrade eligibility of your other line to get the iPhone 5 on the line that already has a data plan. You can do an alternate upgrade, which is basically just transferring the upgrade to another line on the account. Visit http://bit.ly/RiHrRf for more information.
Keep me posted if you need further assistance. I'm happy to help.

  • PC Suite Upgrade : Phone (N70) not supported

    Hi
Just upgraded to latest version of PC Suite and have hit problems. Prior to upgrade phone and PC were connecting fine with no problems.
Now when establishing connection between phone and PC receive following message :'PC Suite does not support the connected phone. PC Suite settings file is missing from the the phone. Switch off your phone, switch it on, and try again.' The phone then appears to connect but none of the PC Suite offers are available, presumably as the phone is not being supported. Switching the phone off/on makes no difference.
No other changes to the phone have occurred since the connection was ok, the only change is upgrade of PC Suite.
I am running Windows XP SP2, PC Suite 6.81.13.0, connecting via cable or Bluetooth yields same result, using N70 on Vodafone firmware V 5.0609.2.0.1 01-03-06 RM-84.
Have tried completely uninstalling PC Suite and reinstalling to no avail. Wondered if I needed to upgrade the N70 firmware and attempted to use the new Software Updater but this crashed.
Quite frankly I haven't got time to mess around trying all sorts of things so any help would be much appreciated.

Hi - I have not experienced this problem before but there are things you can check to rule out certain possible causes.
From what I can remember when you upgrade PC Suite, there's an element of it which it installs onto the phone - was that done successfully ?
Also - it isn't 100% clear from your message, but I presume you're attempting to connect to PC Suite via Bluetooth - does your PC->Bluetooth work OK with other devices ?
If not this indicates you have a Bluetooth centred problem.
Next thing to check - can you connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable ? If so then this also points to a Bluetooth problem.
The fact that the software updater crashed is not a good thing - the update can only be done via USB and not Bluetooth - what message do you get when you try to do the Software Updater ?
If it's a Bluetooth centred issue, then make sure you redo the syncing process - it's wizard driven so should be quite easy to do.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need help with question about upgrading phone

Okay, so, here's what's going on:
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon.
It's dying/freezing/battery life is terrible. Looking to upgrade.
I don't have an upgrade available for my line, but my wife does.
She's giving me permission to use hers, which a Verizon rep told me is fine.
I want to use her upgrade to get a Samsung Galaxy Note II.
The best price (subsidized) right now is on Dell's site ($169.99), which I could price-match at Best Buy (employee confirmed this). However, it's still a little high for me.
I could get a better price by adding a line with this device - shave off $40 ($129.99).
So here's my question: is there any way to add a line, get some immediate savings on the purchase, then immediately cancel the line (maybe only taking a little bit of a hit, getting most of the cost reimbursed for not using it)? In other words, how can I get this phone as cheap as possible?
    Thanks for your suggestions!

If you add a line as you suggest, that new line will come with a 2 year (24 month) contract for service that will have a $350 Early Termination Fee (ETF) if you cancel the line immediately like you indicated.  There goes the thought of getting the Note II for the cheaper than the upgrade price.
I recommend going with the price match upgrade @ $169.99 at Best Buy.  I can confirm they do the price match.  I bought my last phone from Best Buy and they matched the Radio Shack price I brought them and  I had a good experience.
    Good luck.

  • Can anyone help me with this: my daughter lost her unlimited data plan when I used her upgrade.

My daughter lost her unlimited data plan when I used her upgrade to buy a new phone (upgrade transfer). She didn't upgrade her phone, I did. No one told us this was going to happen and the first I knew of it was when I got a letter in the mail telling me of the change. We went back to the store where we bought the new phone and they put in 2 requests for her unlimited plan to be reinstated, but both were denied. They then told us to call Customer Care, but Customer Care doesn't care. Does anyone else have any experience of this and know of any recourse we may have? Thanks for any help you can give me.

She didn't upgrade her phone, but you did by using her upgrade.  It's her contract that then gets extended, not yours.  And, unfortunately, as of last June, whenever you sign a new two-year contract, you lose your unlimited data.  You can try to reverse the upgrade and get the unlimited data restored if within 30 14 days, but since Verizon has discontinued the unlimited data plans for everyone, I'm not sure how successful you'll be.
For what it's worth, to keep unlimited data (at least for now; rumor has it that it may be completely gone next summer), you don't want to sign a new two-year contract, but pay full retail price, get the phone elsewhere (like ebay), or use an upgrade from a phone that's on a tiered data plan.
It's 14 days, tiki.  Otherwise they are out of luck.

Or purchase an Apple Gift Card for him to use to get a phone at Apple after Christmas. He gets the card as the Christmas gift and can go get the phone himself. It would cost you the same amount of money.

Yes, you can do this. You will have to purchase the phone on his line, and activate it on his line first, and then you can activate it on your line and he can activate your old phone on his line. If you don't activate it on his first within 30 days he will be charged full price for the phone

  • Payment Plan for  Upgrade Phones

I think Verizon should have a payment plan for new upgrade phones.  I have been a long time Verizon customer and in years past when my plan would come up for a replacement phone I always choose one of the top phones and upgraded for about $50.   In today's time, due to Technology, to upgrade to say an I Phone runs around $300 by the time you get tax (CA), new charger- home and car as well as a hands free device.   To pay that Big amount the next month on my bill is the reason I am holding back getting one and I want the best because new phones are always coming out and we will have a better ones and the focus is everything going mobile.  If I could split that total into 2 payments, it would be a lot easier for me and I would be at the store tomorrow buying one.  I think Verizon should do this  because they would increase their phones sales immediately.  No Other Phone Company is doing this and they could pick up new customers from companies that do not offer this.  First to the Marketplace to do this has BIG Value.
In this Economy, Verizon could create a way to increase their sales and  a sense of Goodwill to help the consumer at the same time...Novel Idea!!!!!!

Pay for the phones and service up front or use a credit card (as SydneyK suggested) ...Verizon isn't going to finance the phone purchase. They are in the business of providing wireless service, not financing equipment purchases.
I can imagine prices would go up if they ever WERE to do this, since I'm sure there would be defaults that the rest of us would cover with increased rates. No, thanks...
