Using Adobe CS3 app's via ARD?

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone has tried to use the Adobe CS3 design app's via a VPN connection. I have a client who's office will be physically inaccessible for 2 weeks plus, but their computer and internet connection will be functioning normally. I've tried and succeeded in setting up a solid VPN connection, and can remotely control her machine via ARD, screen sharing (10.5.x) and VNC.
The problem arises when trying to use some of the finer control tools within the app's. Specifically, the pencil tool. I get random starburst type rays across the pasteboard. I've checked to make sure that no specific brush strokes are selected. If someone at the office uses the machine with all the same settings the pencil works fine. I've had intermittent success using the pencil in InDesign, but Illustrator and Photoshop consistently give me bad results.
Any thought would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Randy

First: if you have CS3 on your computer and do not have the install disks then you are in violation of the software license.
Second: Minor bugs in Photoshop and Dreamweaver. PS gets slower and slower the longer you work in it.
Last question: probably not as the installer puts files in various places.
The operative answer is the first one. You are on your own conscience.

  • Reproducible save bug in Adobe CS3 Apps on MacOS 10.4.11

I've found what appears to be a bug in Adobe CS3 apps in their interaction with Navigation Services in 10.4.11. To reproduce:
Create a folder on your Desktop.
Save an AI or PDF file from Illustrator, or a TIFF or JPEG from Photoshop (these are the only file types I've tested so far.)
Copy your folder from the Desktop to a fileserver volume.
Move the original folder from the Desktop to the root of your hard drive.
Copy the folder from the fileserver volume BACK to the Desktop.
Open your file from the folder on the Desktop. Make a change to the file, and choose "Save As"
Note the location that the Save dialog tells you - the folder on your Desktop. Save your updated file with a new name.
Go to the Finder and notice that your new file was saved NOT to the folder on your Desktop as the Save dialog box told you it was, but rather it was saved to the ORIGINAL folder - the one we moved to the root of the hard drive.
Note that this only happens when using the "Apple Dialog" in Open and Save dialogs in Adobe CS3 apps. If you use the "Adobe Dialog", the Save dialog box will tell you that it's saving at the root of the hard drive, rather than in your Desktop folder. This is still the incorrect behavior, of course (the Save dialog's location should be the last location used - in this case, the folder on the Desktop) but at least your Save dialog isn't lying to you.
This problem is not present in CS3 apps running on MacOS 10.5.5 (due, I'm sure, to the extensive work done in 10.5.4 to cure 10.5 Navigation Services bugs.) Has anyone else run into this bug? Any ideas for solving it?

Agreed. It probably will not be fixed.
One piece of information I neglected to state originally - this bug does not affect other applications. I specifically tested Quark 6.52 and Word 2004. While some blame I'm sure belongs to Apple and Navigation Services, some blame is also due to Adobe CS3.

  • Lost information using Adobe Reader App

I usually highlight text from a document or write comments using Adobe Reader App for iPad. But when it synchronizes with the Acrobat Website, my information gets lost... What's happening?

    cas ecowater,
We can examine your PDF forms and determine the cause of the problem.
Would you send the PDF forms as email attachments to [email protected]?  Please include the link to this forum post (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1634405) in your email message for reference.
    Thank you.

  • Run adobe cs3 updater remotely via command line unix command?

is there a way to run the adobe updater from the command line for adobe cs3? I have a bunch of machines that already have cs3 installed, and I would like to be able to use ARD to "send unix command" and have the installer run and update the relevant apps?
    Thanks in advance...
PS-is it me or is this forum ridiculously slow on safari? Sheesh!

  • Upgrading OS to use Adobe CS3, but still require access to Classic (OS 9.2)

I need to upgrade my OS to use Adobe Creative Suite 3 (according to Adobe, requirements for this are OSX10.4.8 to OSX10.5) but also need to maintain access to the Classic environment (OS 9.2), to access legacy documents (in earlier versions of PageMaker and Quark), and for some clients. How best to achieve this on my current hardware, which will be upgraded to 2 Mb RAM (four 512 Mb chips, replacing the current two 256 and a 512) very soon.

    Hi Eustace:
Your solution has merit; and a direction i had not considered. I am, however, a solo operation and do not need to maintain different terminals and computer stations for clients, which having a second computer would suggest; rather, i need to access my own files and folders, and documents, in OS ( applications (e.g., PageMaker) for some of my book-publishing clients.
For example, a book that was laid out in PageMaker 5.0, some years ago, can be brought into PageMaker 6.5, and thereafter into In-Design, for a reissue, and the creation of a pdf e-book. I cannot do all of this on OX, and will need access to the classic environment for a year or two more, at least. OSX10.4, would seem to provide the answer I’m seeking. Thanks again for your creative solution.

  • Adobe CS3 apps suddenly broken

I had no problems with Lion and my Adobe apps for nearly a day- until this morning, when I tried to open Photoshop CS3 Extended (and all the other Adobe apps afterward), only to get this message:
"Licensing for this product has stopped working.
You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product or contacting your IT administrator or Adobe Customer Support for help."
The thing is, I'm the only one who manages and uses my MacBook Pro, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling three time so far. What can I do to restore CS3 functionality?

What problems are you having with Acrobat 9 Pro and Lion? I've not had any issues with it so far.
It's never been listed here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table as having problems. There is even some support for Acrobat 8 listed.
And Photoshop CS3 works okay to:

I have the original disc's, I only want to reinstall Adobe Illustrator - I follow the directions to a point, then I'm told to put in the disc for Ai CS3 (OF WHICH THERE ARE 2...1 marked Application and 1 marked Content) but there is no indication which one they want ???? - tried both?  no good!  and I couldn't get just Ai CS3 - keeps saying there are "combining"  files that go with it? but even when I said yes to that - it didn't do anything. DRAT... so 3 days later I'm still stuck... Please somebody HELP!!!!?????

CS3 is not compatible with Yosemite, its time for you to upgrade it.

  • CS3 InDesign & Illustrator Install Exit Code 7; Other CS3 Apps Install Fine

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse... (no offence to horse lovers out there - it's just an expression)
I'm having trouble performing an silent install of the CS3 suite from a network share on Windows 7.  I've read through a number of posts on here, one of which was a 3 page post on this issue where Mac & Win 7 users alike posted failures, successes and how they got there, and another about removing the OS check feature from the application.proxy.xml file (which didn't work for me; unless I did something wrong...?)  Unfortunately for me after trying much of what was suggested, I'm still facing a brick wall.
All these machines are Core 2 Duo's clocked at no less than 2.2GHz, have 4GB of RAM, have over 100GB of free disk space and are running fully updated/patched installations of Windows 7 32-bit (x86) with Office 2007 Enterprise.
When I try to install the suite silently it fails with 'Exit Code: 7', which according to the CS3_Deployment.pdf means "Unable to complete the silent workflow."  If I take out the "--mode=silent" switch, the GUI launches and installs fine.  I took a look at the compressed log file & searched for "Return value 3", "ERROR" and "FATAL" for clues, but its vague and nondescript.  I didn't copy/paste the entire log in this post for brevity's sake, but you can check it out here:
    Condensed Version: http://pastebin.com/eFKpe9wK
    Unabridged Version: http://pastebin.com/MQDeQZmF
Instead, however, I do want to touch on just a few things from the log:

I've got some initial questions that pertain to what's in the log file:
The areas in bold:  Since the same install also fails on Windows XP machines, what does this mean exactly?
The areas in italics: Can anyone expand on what that means?
The underlined areas: What 'Policy' is this referring to: Setup's own internal policy (like the OS check) or something else?
Here's what I've done so far:
Went through the 'Run a silent installation of Adobe Creative Suite 3' document
Went through the 'Troubleshoot installation with install logs | CS3, CS4' document
Used the Adobe Support Advisor to go through the logs, but it always says that no problems are found.
Recreated the install & uninstall XML files, twice, via the "setup.exe --record=1" method for each application & the entire suiteNot that I think this is important, but I was never prompted to enter a serial number when creating the .XML files.
Renamed the XML files for each application (e.g.: Photoshop-install.xml; CS3Suite-install.xml; Flash-remove.xml etc.)
Copied the XML files to a common folder on a network share (e.g.: \\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\XMLs)
Created install batch files for each application, including the suite, that install via the following command"\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\Setup.exe" --mode=silent --deploymentFile="\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\XMLs\Photoship-install.xml"
Tried the installs with & without the "--skipProcessCheck=1" switch but there's no change.
No applications are running during the installs.
Verified my application.xml.override file was in \\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\payloads\AdobeDesignSuitePremiumen_US_Volume
Verified I didn't have any strange characters in my application.xml.override fileI deleted and manually retyped all double quotes just to be sure.
I noticed that the "installSourcePath" property in the install.xml files created point to a local location rather than, what I would expect to be, the installation source folder where I copied the contents of the DVD to.  On a whim I changed it to point to the copied DVD files but that didn't seem to help either so I changed it back.
    FROM: <Property name="installSourcePath">C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\498b43b77cac072081a5692bfc52804</Property>
    TO: <Property name="installSourcePath">\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3</Property>
Aside from Acrobat Reader 9.4.0, Adobe Flash Player 10 (ActiveX & Plugin) and maybe Shockwave 11, these machines never previously had any other Adobe products installed.
For what its worth, uninstalling Acrobat Reader 9.4.0 doesn't seem to help either.  I didn't try removing Flash Player or Shockwave [yet].
Using the install XML files I created via "setup.exe --record=1", when I run installs for the individual applications silently [via batch files] one at a time, all applications install fine except for Illustrator and InDesign: Exit Code 7.
This may further help suggest my application.xml.override file is fine.
Even more interesting is that I get the same error on Windows XP and Windows 7 machines alike.  (See the image below taken from an XP machine; the same happens on Windows 7 machines so it doesn't appear this problem is OS specific.)
Other than removing Flash Player, Shockwave and ripping out our Anti-Virus solution (Sophos), which is going to be difficult, is there anything I've missed?
Anyone have suggestions on why Illustrator and InDesign don't install?

I spoke with Adobe Support today and was directed to this support article:
    CPSID_84332 - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/843/cpsid_84332.html
Although this article speaks to CS5 installations, even though I thought I made it clear that I was working with CS3, I decided to give it a shot anyway.
The first comment passively suggests troubleshooting [all] "install errors using Creative Suite 5 install logs", which links you to CPSID_84451 - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/844/cpsid_84451.html.  But again, its CS3 I'm having trouble with and I've already linked, what I believe to be, a more appropriate CS3 [and CS4] log troubleshooting document in my first post.
Step 1 requires restarting "your computer in a minimized state before running the installer." - This isn't at all optional nor ideal when we're talking about silent installations, especially when they can take place in the middle of the day - its highly distruptive, or deployments in general.  Plus, I'm not interested in developing a package that will perform the steps outlined and then undo everything.  Its important to note that this isn't a one-off problem: every machine that needs to have CS3 installed experiences this problem.  But for what its worth:
I did as instructed in the troubleshooting documentation but it didn't work.
No other applications fail to install, and all but these lone Adobe CS3 apps install fine; what gives?
Step 2 is to perform a repair installation of the Windows Installer.  (FYI: Windows 7 ships with 5.0, my version is 5.0.7600.16385, and for the record there doesn't seem to be a redistributable download available at this time.)  I can't use this as part of my silent installation package because it calls you to run `sfc /scannow` which is time consuming and, if something is found, often requires a reboot.  Fortunately for me, "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."
Step 3 is to preinstall Adobe Air and the AdobeHelp payloads:
AIR isn't part of the CS3 DVD, it has to be downloaded & installed silently (via -silent -eulaAccepted if you don't have the redistributable package); this was done but didn't help.
There isn't an 'AdobeHelp' payload, only 'AdobeHelpViewerAll', which will not allow a manual instalation so I can't do that.
In summary, these tips unfortunately did not solve the problem.

  • MacBook and Adobe CS3

I'm considering buying a new MacBook and was curious if anyone has used any of the Adobe CS3 apps on one? If so, how does the MacBook handle them? I'd really appreciate any responses. Thanks!

I believe if you check the licensing your only allowed it on one machine. You may not be able to activate a second copy.

  • CS3 apps crash at print, Leopard 10.5.5 update

None of my Adobe CS3 apps want to print--they all crash and burn the moment I hit Cmd-P. I updated to Leopard 10.5.5, and was able to print fine until this week. All of my Adobe apps are also up-to-date. The only difference was Acrobat 8's update, which I installed this week.
    I'm on a 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel cheesegrater, with 4GB RAM.
Any help/suggestions is very much appreciated!

    I've done Repair Permissions--doesn't work.
I used the incremental update from Software Update; if I download and apply the combo updater, would I need to archive and install my current system first?
I've also tried deleting and reinstalling the printer--doesn't work.
What I've done now is reinstall Adobe CS3, and updated InDesign to 5.0.3 only; still doesn't work, even though a similar setup on another computer (10.5.5 and ID 5.0.3) works with the printer flawlessly. So at this point I'm confused and very frustrated, and looking at the possibility of wiping out the machine completely and doing a fresh, full install of everything I have on it.
    Thanks for the help, though.

  • Unable to resolve installation error for Adobe CS3 Web Premium despite referring to given solution

    Hi,
I own a copy of Adobe CS3 Web Premium from a few years ago that was bundled with my Fujitsu Lifebook T5010 on Windows Vista.  I wish to install the CS3 Web Premium onto my Acer Aspire X3990 desktop that is running on Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 on 64-bit operating system type. However, the installer prompts the following error: "This software cannot be installed because JScript is not properly registered. Please repair JScript and then restart the installer".
Checking with Adobe website, I came across the following support page: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-2739-installer-closes-cs3.html
whereby it says the solution is to manually register the jscript.dll file. I followed the procedure exactly for that of 64-bit system, but then the following new error pops up when I enter in "regsvr32 jscript.dll" onto Administrator: Command Prompt on C:\Windows\SysWow64 : "The module "jscript.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80004005. For more information about this problem, search online using the error code as a search term."
One thing I note is that on the Adobe web link, the operating system mentioned is Vista, while I am currently running Windows 7.
Please help, as the few solutions I found on Google search are mostly repeated calls to ensure that the command prompt is run at Administrator level, which I already am doing so. I need something more than telling me what I had already done but not resolved.
I am asking the same question in parallel to the Microsoft Community page as well, as I do not know where exactly the issue lies with. I hope both sides can give a clear resolution.
I really need help in enabling me to use Adobe CS3 again, as my Fujitsu laptop that ran it without problems had since died off already.

  • Adobe CS3 Indesign no longer prints under 10.7

Upgraded the OS to Lion (10.7.1) and found I can no longer print documents when using Adobe CS3 Indesign.  I checked with an apple rep, and they advised that they thought CS3 should still work ..... yeah, right!  I believe this also affect CS4 users, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling CS3 software as suggested in a forum, with no joy - the problem still exists.  I think Apple should provide a patch to allow compatibilty with software that worked under OS 10.6.  Upgrading to CS5.5 is not an option, as the software is way expensive.  How about NOT putting people off upgrading their OS, Apple?

I suggest you post your question on Adobe.com's CS forum.
