Using an optical cable causes Bose system to shut off

When I use an optical cable to play ATV2 through my Bose surround sound system, it turns the Bose system off after a few seconds. The Bose system works fine with the other components.

I just use mac the ripper with the following instructions

It gives you a few options for audio, I generally save as AAC though you can rip as AIFF and then encode into just about anything with quicktime.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • TS1574 optic digital port can't be shut off and the sound of speakers not working! what to do?

optic digital port can't be shut off and the sound of speakers not working! what to do?
this happened after taking out the head-phones. Now even after pressing CMD+ALT+P+R when booting - the sound of booting appeares BUT after the desktop is ready the sound doesn't work and sound buttons show the sign "circle with crossed line"

If there is a red light visible in the audio output port, the switch id stuck.  Insert the earphone jack a few times.  If that fails to trip the switch, try a toothpick or similar device and jiggle it inside the port.  If that fails, try a shot or two of compressed air.  If still no success, go to a repair facility.
    Ciao.

The on/off button on my iPhone 5S is difficult to use.  Sometimes I have to use a golf tee to get it to shut off.  Is this a common problem and can it be fixed?

I'm not sure what difference it makes if its a common problem or not but as its a hardware problem it needs to fixed so take it into an Apple store or authorized iPhone service provider and ask them what can be done.

  • Hi i was using safari one day and my ipod randomly shut off it will now not turn back on i tried hard resting and everything else when i plug the ipod into a charger it gets really hot in the left corner and itunes did not recognize

hi i was using safari one day and my ipod randomly shut off it will now not turn back on i tried hard resting and everything else when i plug the ipod into a charger it gets really hot in the left corner and itunes did not recognize any help will be apreciated thank you

Try placing the iPodin recovery mode and then try to restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Next would be to make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.

  • How do I get good audio feed from DVD player to my MBP using an optic cable

I have successfully recorded audio off of concert DVD's using Sound Studio 3 by connecting my DVD player to my MBP using left/right outputs to a 35mm input. I purchased an optical cable, connected it to my DVD player and used a 35mm adapter to connnect it to my MBP input. All I get is a weird popping interferance type sound instead of clear audio. Any tips on what is going on? I have correct settings in system preferences (recognizes an optical connection) but all I hear is noise?
    Thanks for any help!

  • Using 2nd optical bay for 5th system HDD?

Is it possible in the newly released Mac Pro to use the 2nd optical bay to house the system drive?
I want to stripe 4 x SATAs in the main enclosures on a RAID-5 for HD capture/playout with a CalDigit Hardware RAID card and have OS + apps on the 5th drive.
Is this possible? Has anyone done it with success?

I have two drives in the lower optical drive bay on a 2006 model.
MaxUpgrades has a kit for the older design, check and see if it is compatible. Sort of expensive kit. One drive should be easier.

    Hello there khary9,
I have an article that talks about troubleshooting USB ports that may be helpful in this situation. Named iOS: Troubleshooting USB connection it can be found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1286.
Once you determine that your computer has a USB 2.0 connection, use the following steps to troubleshoot the connection between the device and the computer. Test after each step:
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Plug the device directly into a high-power USB 2.0 port on the computer. If possible, use a USB port on the back of the computer.Avoid plugging the device into a keyboard, display, or standalone hub. The USB ports on these accessories may be low-power or only offer USB 1.x connections.
If you are using an accessory, remove the device from the dock and connect it to the computer using only the Apple USB to Dock Connector cable. If you have access to additional Apple USB to Dock Connector cables, try testing with another if the first one doesn't work.
Restart your computer and device. To restart your device:Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the Sleep/Wake button to turn it back on.
Disconnect all USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then reconnect the iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect other USB devices, testing after each connection.
Another article describes what to do if you are using Windows and see an unknown error containing "0xE" when connecting your device.
If the issue persists and you are using virtualization software to run another operating system alongside Mac OS X, quit that software; it may create virtual USB ports that may be causing the issue. Or you can try to control or restrict access to USB ports while running the virtualization software.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Closing CR-48 lid causes external monitor to shut off.

My screen broke a few weeks ago and I have been using it with an extra monitor as a desktop. I'm running xfce and can't seem to find the option to keep the screen from going black when the lid is closed.

This is how I do it. I have the external monitor hooked up and ready to go. Then I close the MacBook. Once it goes to sleep just use your extenal mouse or keyboard to wake the MacBook. This will make the external monitor the main display.
When you open the MacBook it's display will be off. If you decide to turn it back on the easiest way I have found is the display settings in system preferences.
I pick the Show displays in menu bar. That way I click the display icon in the menu bar. The first choice is detect displays. Click it and it will wake the MacBook monitor and both monitors will return to normal.

  • System will shut off on its own?

I just bought my MAC about a month and a half ago and recently it has been "shutting down" on its own...then restarts or I'll be in the middle of doing something such as surfing the web and the screen will turn completely dark blue. I'll then have to hold down the power button in order to start it up again because doing command, alt, delete won't work. What's going on?

Issues booting are genenerally symptomatic with a corrupted operating system. I've seen this issue a lot recently with folks who have tried (unsuccessfully) to install the preview of iOS 7. If this is the case, once you get this issue resolved, I recommend you stick with iOS 6 until the new version is officialy released. If not then it just might be run of the mill corruption. Either way, you'll need to perform a DFU restore of the device. Check this video out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofpinyGlQ8I for instructions on how to do this. It will delete everything, but this is likely the only option you have at this point. If you have issues doing this or if a DFU restore does not resolve your issue you should head to the Apple Store Genius Bar with an appointment (call, or go to apple.com/retail) and they will assist you!

  • Song causes my ipod to shut off...please see details

I have an ipod shuffle first generation that I've had for 2 years and nothing like this has ever happened before. I downloaded new music to my ipod and when it gets to a certain song, it just dies. I can hear a faint click and then it just shuts off. Last night, I noticed that after this happened, there were two tiny dots, one green and one orange, right on top of the other where the green power dot usually is, but much smaller. I tried to take the song off, but the ipod still cuts off in that spot. To get it to play again, i have to click it off and then on again, which resets the whole thing. Did I download a bad song(it was off of itunes and it downloaded normally) or is there something wrong with the ipod?

What version of firmware is your shuffle running? See Settings pane...
If you know the name of the song, do File>GetInfo>Summary and tell us what it says.
    It may just be corrupted...

  • When I am using safari on my ipad2 it will just shut off..

And send me back to my home screen. What is wrong, and what do I need to do to fix it??

You are not necessarily doing anything wrong. Sometimes **** happens as they say. Try any or all of these steps and see if any of them hlep.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit Safari and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • I plugged in a charger for my iPhone and the system immediately shut off. What can I do?

Immediately I thought the worst, I just fried my computer. After looking through the forums I did disconnect and reset the battery connector carefully, no progress. When I plug in my charger, the power light shows this dim pathetic green like it has given up on life. I'm now assuming I have a serious problem, before I go to the Genius Bar I want to confirm this here and also I'm wondering if I will have to pay for the damages? If so how much does a replacement board run?

    wow!!! i cant believe it!!
    it's alive!!!
not sure it helped.. but my macbook works!
'When I explained my symptoms to the Genius tech, he said it sounds like "coma mode". Like Mr. H said, happens when the lid is open and closes to quickly. My machine checked out just fine from the diagnostic check. The Genius tech gave me this tip to get the MacBook out of "coma mode." You have to make sure that you macbook is hooked up to the AC power supply. Then depress the power switch (keep holding it down) and press the Option+Control+Shift keys. Keep these keys held for while counting to 5 and release. You Mac should come out of it coma and be ready to go.'

  • Using the optical input/ output on Audigy 2 zs: cable doesn't

So I've searched and can't find an answer on this forum
The optical cable that I have that fits into the back of my Playstation 2 does not fit into the mic in (which I thought is optical in as well)
So is it possible to have an optical cable go from a ps2 to the audigy 2 zs? Do I need a special optical cable?
Thanks, this may be a stupid question, but I am lost cause on the card it does say "optical in" but the optical cable doesn't fit it.
    Thanks
    DD

    DD,
There isn't any optical I/O jack on the Audigy 2 ZS soundcard at all so you won't be able to use your optical cable with the soundcard unless you have the I/O dri've bay like those from the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum or Platinum Pro. Do you have those I/O dri've bay instead of just the soundcard?
