Using apple remote with iTunes 9 and airport express/remote speakers

Hi,
Does anyone know why the apple remote will control the hardware volume for the speakers on my mac, but when playing via the airport express connected to remote speakers why doesn't it control the volume slider in iTunes?
This would be really useful as at present I need the apple remote to control track selection and play/pause, but another remote to control volume.
If it isn't possible now, can Apple please add it to the pile of suggestions for the next version build of iTunes?

It sounds like you want to setup your Airport Express to Airplay music from your iPhone 5. I found an article with steps to help you get this setup:
Connecting to an existing Wi-Fi network, exclusively for iTunes music
AirPort Express used exclusively for AirPlay by setting it up in Client Mode.
Choose this configuration if the computer containing your iTunes library may be out of direct range of the AirPort Express, but is within range of the Wi-Fi network.
How to Set It Up
Connect your AirPort Express to your home stereo or powered speakers.
From your computer, join the wireless network. Use the AirPort status menu in the menu bar on a Mac. On a Windows-based computer, hold the pointer over the wireless connection icon until you see your AirPort network name (SSID), and choose it from the list if there are multiple networks available. Enter the network password, if necessary.
Open iTunes on your computer and choose the AirPort Express(es) you wish to stream music through from the speakers pop-up menu in the lower-right corner of the iTunes window.

PC Used to work with XP and airport Extreme Basestation but not with Vista

Please help, my PC Used to work with XP and airport Extreme Basestation but not now with Vista. I have a MacBook Pro connected and also a Mac Pro connected to the network on it and they still work, i have put the latest software on the PC and the firmware is up to date. The only thing i can see on the network on the PC is the basestation Hard Disk (shared also to the Macs) but i cannot connect with the password, i have tried everything in my knowledge, including formatting the machine and reinsatlling OS and changing security setting to no avail. Any ideas anyone?

Don't worry, it's still available! We just have to turn it on. To do so, go to the View menu and choose "Show Sidebar," as shown in the image below:

Using Apple Earphones with Mic and Remote with Ipod Nano (3rd generation)

Hi, I'm just wondering if there is any way i can make the Ipod Nano(3rd generation) compatible with the Apple Earphones with Mic and Remote. I know on the box it says the earphones are only compatible with a few ipods, like the 4th generation ipod nano. But Is there any program i can download or use to allow the ipod to recognize the earphone remote and mic?

I'm quite convinced the answer is no for that Apple mic.
I do believe recording is possible on the Nano 3G with the right attachment. But I don't think the sound comes through the headphone jack the way they do on the nano 4G and iPhone 3G/touch.

Printer not working with Leopard and Airport Express

Hello!
I have seen that this is a common problem but I've tried several solutions that seemed to work for others but still not for me.
I have a Macbook Pro unibody and airport express with OS X 10.5.6. I used a Samsung CLP-300 wirelessly though my airport express (with Tiger on my older macbook). The printer works fine when it is plugged into my USB on the Macbook but not on the airport.
Here is what I've tried in the past 8 months:
- update the Samsung printer driver
- used "fixairport"
- configured HP IP with airport local address
- spent 2 hours on the phone with apple
None of this seemed to work. The printer will print the first page and then any subsequent pages it gives me an error host message.
If anyone can give me an idea of what did work for them in this situation, or maybe I'm doing something wrong, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.

You need to reconfigure your AirPort Express (AX) so that it joins the wireless network provided by the "modem". Follow the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

Sharing Music with Computer and Airport Express at the same time?

I just purchased and set up airtunes with some powered speakers.
I cannot figure out how I can play the same music at the same time to shared computers and the Express Powered Speakers at the same time.
Can you help me with configuring instructions please?
iMac G5 with Airport Extreme and DSL w/ iTunes pointing to external hard drive music library.
PowerBook G4 in the kitchen wireless can share music when computer is selected.
Powered Speakers on the screen porch with Airport Express connected can only play music when Express is selected.
How do I fix this so that when we have a dinner party we have the same music in the office, the kitchen and the screen porch all playing together at the same time?

Although your problem is slightly different, it seems that you are having the exact same issues that I had just two days ago - solved for me by Felix. If you check the link below, it goes through what I had to do, which was basically to update the software on my airport express base station, which he explains well:

When I did it, it then gave me the option on iTunes (check the picture at http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/airtunes.html to see the magnified bit on iTunes) and then I could just choose multiple speakers concurrently.

Dumb with Wirless and Airport Express

I have thought about purchasing an airport express for a while so that I could play music from my desktop which is connected to a cable modem on my component stereo. By a stroke of Christmas spirit a friend of mine gave me his airport express because he no longer needs it.
In order to do make this work, do I need to buy a router and a wireless usb adapter for my desktop despite proximity to modem…. Or can I get by with simply the wireless USB adapter and airport express.

Good news, the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is a wireless router so you don't need to acquire another to make this work. However, you will need to add wireless capability to the desktop.
Your network configuration would be something like the following:
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] AX > (wireless) > PC, AND
AX [Audio port] > (Audio cable) > Stereo
OR
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] PC > (wireless) > AX [Audio port] > (Audio cable) > Stereo

Printing issues with D1455 and Airport express

Hi, I'm having problems printing with an HP Deskjet D1455 and the airport express. The printing always halts after printing half the page.

I came across your question and wondered if you could help me. I just bought a macpro with leopard and am having a heck of a time getting it to work with my design jet 800ps which is connected by usb cable. I installed the driver for the printer from the leopard cd but to no avail. The printer shows up in the printer list but when I send a file nothing happens. I have been on the phone with HP but nothing seems to make a difference.

Speed issue with TC and Airport Express 802.11n in WDS mode...

Here is my problem.
I replaced my older base station / Express duo with
a new Time Capsule (1TB) and a new Airport Express (802.11n).
I set up the network with the TC as base station running a WDS network (WDS main) and the Express is the WDS remote.
When I check the wireless clients from the TC, I find my iMac running at 130Mbits and the Extreme at 54Mbits.
No other wireless clients are connected to the network (I kept my slower network as a parallel one for my "older" Macs).
The only other connected device is my Dish network DVR that is connected via an Ethernet cable directly to the Express.
So my question is why does the Express not communicate at >54 speed rate with the TC?
And, why does my iMac connect with 130 and not with 300Mbits?
Any thoughts?

Instead of using WDS, you should take advantage of the "Allow this network to be extended" option that is available for the 802.11n AirPorts including the TC. WDS only operates in the 802.11g radio mode.
Here's the basic setup:
o If practical, place the base stations in near proximity to each other during the setup phase. Once done, move them to their desired locations.
o Open AirPort Utility and select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
o Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
o Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
o Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
o Enter the base station network and base station password is necessary.
o Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.

Itunes and Airport Express

Network is set up (using brand new Airport Extreme). Works great. Computer/Itunes recognizes (brand new) airport express. Music does not play. No ONE at MAC using the service I PAY FOR can help me.

Sounds like a network issue for sure.
I can recall having the same issue a long time ago. I don't think any 1 thing solved my problem, at this point i just know it went away. Removing anything related to your wireless config may be a place to start. Like trash the AirPort pref file, etc, "Start Over" with the whole networking aspect of it. Ensure all the latest firmware is in place on both sides. Make sure the latest iTunes is installed and that all security patches are in.
The evidence so far really does point to a network issue. Try attacking this from the standpoint that something there is broken, and you may solve the problem.
I too, am out of ideas at this point.

Choppy YouTube Playback with MacBook and AirPort Express

I recently purchased a brand new 2.1 Ghz Intel Macbook (white) with extra memory and immediately connected it to the internet using the AirPort Express 802.11n. I have experienced no problems thus far except for extremely poor internet streaming video playback. YouTube videos stop to load every few seconds. I didn't have this problem with my old PowerBook G4, and like I said, everything else seems fine - pages load normally and downloads are very quick. I have installed a new version of Flash and done a couple of other suggested tricks but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions?

Using lossless codec with air tunes / airport express

i recently installed an airport express so that i can listen to my itunes library on my stereo. i have connected the airport to my stereo using a toslink cable. most of my library is encoded at 192kbs or 128 kbs aac files. i was hoping that if i encoded music using the lossless codec that i would be able to match the sound i get from my cd player through the stereo. my early tests have not worked well. if i compare a song in my itues encoded at 128, 192, 256 and lossless they all sound basically the same when played through my stereo using airport express. none of them sound as good as the same song played through my stereo from the cd player. the cd player is hooked up via a digital coax and both the cd player and the airport express are programmed identically in the stereo (using the stereo uplink sample). my asumption was that since both sources are digital (assuming that itunes to express to toslink remains digital) and that from what i have read the lossless codec is indistinguishable from a cd in playback that the two would sound the same. however the cd sounds much louder and fuller.has anyone had a sucessfull experience where the airport express has matched a cd in playback quality? any thoughts / suggestion? thanks.

hi james. my understanding is that i am feeding a digital signal from itunes to ax to my stereo and that because i am using a toslink optical connection from the ax to my stereo the signal remains digital until the stereo's internal dac converts it. this is essentially the same process that is happening with the cd player. the digital coax feeds a digital signal to the stereo where the stereo's internal dac converts the signal. so the question becomes why with a lossless codec would there be any difference in sound quality if the digital signal is being processed exactly the same way in the stereo? my only answer is that i am not receiving a pure digital feed from the itunes to ax to stereo path. somewhere it is being stepped on. any thoughts?
