Using Applets in Lotus Notes R5
I was wondering whether anyone has successfully used Java applets in Notes Client applications (not web applications).
Specifically, what JDK version can I assume to work. I would think JDK 1.1.6 from the documentation of the R5 Domino Server, but I couldn't find an explicit statement about which JRE version the R5 Client supports.
What I am trying to do is:
(a) Use Java to implement things with NotesUI-Objects one would traditionally do using LotusScript, like putting "Hello World" into a field on a freshly opened Lotus Notes Form. People seem to be more willing to learn Java than LotusScript these days. :-)
(b) Use custom Java Applets to display eg a barchart depending on data inside Notes and external data sources, instead of using eg Excel through OLE/ActiveX as I and others traditionally did and still are doing.
Anyone can help here?
You probably want to stick to the lotus developer domain for answers to this kind of stuff.
http://www.lotus.com/ldd
The Notes/Domino Gold Release Forum is full of stuff, and the sandbox should have some samples.
JDK 1.1.6 is fine. The biggest thing you need to do is make sure you extend AppletBase in Notes.jar not Applet.
Cheers

Hi Gurus,
We are facing with a typical scenario here. I want to have my Lotus Notes data in SAP BW system. Lotus notes uses NSF file system to store data. I am not clear how can we get this into SAP BW. I tried searching the same in different forums but none of the thread come close to solving the issue.
There are connectors available. However, I am not able to find documentations on the same. I know how to transfer SAP BW data in Lotus notes but not the reverse. I tried searching for LotusSQL Drivers but found no documents on this as well.
I want to know what source system can we use here. Is'nt there any other way without using a file system as Source system to accomplish this. I want the entire process to be automated. I don't want to use a middleware (like ORACLE database) in between Lotus notes server and SAP BW.
Can anyone please respond to the same.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Sreekul NairThank you for the prompt response Shanthi. However, I don't want to use File System as my source system. I want to do it via a use of a Lotus notes connector or Lotus Enterprise integrator. I want that the data as and when pushed from Lotus notes should appear in BW system.
How to achieve this. Plz help.

PDFmaker update Lotus notes 8.5.2
Information for anyone using PDFMAKER and lotus notes we use corp version of lotus 6.5 and then 8.0 recently converted to 8.5.2. I have always used pdfmaker to conver email to pdf for years and when we upgraded it broke. Two key things to get it to work again
Upgrade to Adobe 9.1 or higher
Here's how I've done it:
Lotus Notes 8.5 is supported since Adobe Acrobat 9, but it actually works only since 9.1.0.
Adobe Acrobat 7 has no Lotus Notes plugin, Adobe Acrobat 8 is supporting only Lotus Notes 5 - 7.
So, if any user wants to create PDFs out of Notes documents using PDFMaker, Adobe Acobat 9.1 or higher must be installed on the machine AFTER Lotus Notes 8.5 has been installed.
The following modifications are done to the Lotus Notes 8.5 installation:
Added files to C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes:
AdobePDFMToolbarInst.dll
ndbPDFML.dll
Added notes.ini entries:
AddInMenus=C:\PROGRA~1\Adobe\ACROBA~1.0\PDFMaker\Mail\LOTUSN~1\PDFMLO~1.DLL
AdobePDFMInst=1
EXTMGR_ADDINS=AdobePDFMToolbarInst
One thing to note
AddInMenus=C:\PROGRA~1\Adobe\ACROBA~1.0\PDFMaker\Mail\LOTUSN~1\PDFMLO~1.DLL
this might change to
AddInMenus=C:\PROGRA~1\Adobe\ACROBA~2.0\PDFMaker\Mail\LOTUSN~1\PDFMLO~1.DLL
to verify the correct setting from the dos prompt
use dir/w to verify the correct path
made these changes and now I am back in business hope this helps anyone else who might be struggling with loosing this great functionality .
One other thing my Icons are viewable in lotus notes it works just like it did before Icons trigger and pdf is created happy camper hereExactly same issue here. Issue started after Mac OS X 10.7.2 update.
Lotus Notes works fine, but menus in menu bar remains unresponsive.
Updates to Lotus Notes 8.5.2 FP4 but did not solve the issue.
If anyone has an idea to fix this without reinstalling the complete software, it will be welcome. -
Hi,
I had a Problem, I need to configure OIM connection with Lotus Notes,
I am able to find Jar files and XML files, but only thing is I need to move mail boxes from one server to another server in Lotus notes,
If any one worked in configuring OIM with Lotus Notes and performed moving mail boxes from one server to another server in Lotus Notes,
can anyone provide the steps invloved in it.
It will be helpfull for meUser 619664,
I guess that I was not clear in my previous post. I don't know how to implement a process to move mail boxes between servers using the OOTB Lotus Notes Connector. The configuration that I described above is to create Lotus users in a Lotus Domino Server (Server A) and create their mail boxes in another predefined Lotus Server (Server B), when you do a user provisioning through OIM.
Chii,
the certifier ID file should be located on the target system computer and you must specify its path in CertPath parameter in Lotus Notes IT Resource in Design Console. This certifier ID file is generated as "cert.id" when you deploy the first Domino Server of your environment.
I'm not so sure, but I guess that in Lotus Notes version 6 and above you can grant to a user (for example OIMaccount user) the ability to re-certify IDs, then you could use the OIMaccount.id as your certifier ID, but I didn’t test this configuration at all.
Anyway, this parameter is required to create users in Domino Directory because it keeps the public key used to generate private keys of user accounts and I guess that is used in password cryptography also.
Please let me know if you have more questions.

Desktop Sync Error on Local Sync with Lotus Notes Address Book
Blackberry Desktop Manager - Ver 4.2.0.14
Lotus Notes - Ver 7.0 HF227
Blackberry Smartphone - Pearl 8100
Hi All,
I am a new Blackburry and Forum user and I have a Sync issue.
When I sync my Local Lotus Notes Address book, its stops part way through the sync saying "Unable to write application data record." and will not continue. I believe there is a record in my Address Book that has an error that the software cannot deal with, but as the records are not synced in alphabetical order I cannot work out which record is at fault.
Here is a copy of the last part of the Log file.

any help greatfully received.

ACS Authentication against Lotus Notes
Hi Team, is it possible to authenticate Users via ACS against Lotus Notes, similar to MS AD? Regards, Michael
I don't think it is possible to use ACS with Lotus notes for user authentication. These are the external databases supported with ACS.
a) Windows User Database
b) Generic Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
c) Novell NetWare Directory Services (NDS) when used with Generic LDAP
d) LEAP Proxy Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) servers
e) Token servers
f) Open Database Connectivity (ODBC)-compliant relational databases (ACS for Windows) -

Lotus Notes and Palm Contacts?
My Blackberry 8830 was activated to use my corporate Lotus Notes email. However, I want to add my personal contacts, which I do not keep in Lotus. Currently they are in Palm Desktop v 6.2.2.
Is it possible to have my contacts/address book on my Blackberry separate from my Lotus Notes? Thanks!Hello Klynch,
If I understand you right you would like to move your palm contact into your BlackBerry and at the same time not have the BlackBerry replicate with your Lotus Notes.
If that is the case then all you should need to do is turn off the Wireless Synchronization option in your address book on your BlackBerry. Once that is done you can use the latest Desktop Manager software to transfer over your contacts from the Palm to your BlackBerry.
Hope this helps -
I have a Garmin iQue3600, which is basically a Palm III with a GPS built in. I could sync my Outlook 2007 contacts and calendar flawlessly. (Palm Sync 6.0.1, Palm Desktop 4.1.4). Company was purchased, now we are using Lotus Notes 8.5.1. No native Palm support, so I tried EasySync 4.2.7. This actually works pretty well, except that the calendar entries do not sync the location of the meeting; this is rather important to me.
Is there a setting somewhere that can fix this? Years ago I used Intellisync to do this, but that company is gone now.
Someone suggested Companionlink, but the on-line reviews for that product are pretty bad.
Thank you.Lisa,
Welcome to the Palm forums and thanks for that great feedback!

Is RDC integration with Lotus notes apps possible using CR XI and lotus 8
Hi,
We have reporting feature implemented in one of lotus notes application using crystal reports 6 (OCX) and as Crystal report is going to be upgraded to CR XI version in my organisation, we need to implement the same using RDC component.
Background (on how it has been implemented using CR 6 ) :-
i) Lotusscript generate few CSV file and pick a .RPT file from profile doc and places it under one folder on local machin (say x).
ii) RPT file is designed to pick data from CSV file using system DSN (data source).
iii) Data source (system DSN) has been configured with folder (x) that contains CSV and RPT file .
iv) Crystal report control object has been embedded in the lotus notes form and lotusscript code gets handle of control object and opens the report (RPT)file .
We have set up all neccesary environment and trying to implement above functionality using RDC component but when we are embedding the crstal report report viewer in a lotus notes form , it throws an error "An error has occured while processing a request on an object".
Please let me know if it possible using RDC or can anyone suggest me some other alternatives .
TIAHello,
You should be able to use the RDC in Lotus Notes. There are significant differences between the object model for the old OCX (crystl32.ocx) compared to the Report Designer Component (RDC) and it's components, the craxdrt.dll, crviewer.dll, etc.
I was able to find an older document that shows how to integrate CR9 into Lotus Notes: "[Using the Report Designer Component (RDC) in Lotus Notes|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/50ce64b3-241f-2b10-b792-9685d3815a21]". You can use this as a starting point to compare with your code.
The RDC object model hasn't changed much since CR9, but some of the runtime component references in the document may need to be correct (e.g. craxdrt.dll for v11.x vs craxdrt9.dll for v9.x).
It is worth noting that the RDC has been retired with the release of CR2008. CR XIR2 (v11.5) is the last version of Crystal Reports that uses the RDC. The suggested migration path is to move to the Crystal Reports .NET SDK. This means you'll have no upgrade path with a v11.x application.

Hi ,
I basically want to write a java graphics game application ......At this point in time all I want to do is add a green rectangle to the content pane.......I can do this but I want to stick with OO concepts so I have various classes......the thing is ....when a user resizes the window the graphic I have painted dissapeared
I will show the classes I have used and the code below......I want to do the program conforming to the way I was tought java which is to have a main controlling class that orchestrates communication between unrelated classes and their methods. In addition to my question if anyone sees stuff fundementally wrong with my code and has a better solution please feel free to enlighten me :-)
main controlling class:
import java.awt.Graphics;
* <p>Title: </p>
* <p>Description: </p>
* <p>Copyright: Copyright (c) 2005</p>
* <p>Company: </p>

public class PoolApp {
public PoolApp() {
//creates new gamescreen object
GameScreen aScreen = new GameScreen(this);
public static void main(String[] args) {
PoolApp poolApp1 = new PoolApp();
public Graphics getPaintedTable(GameScreen aGameScreen) {
Paint aPaint = new Paint(this);
Graphics tblObj = aPaint.getTbleGraphic(aGameScreen);
return tblObj;
------end main controlling class
------TLayer Class start
import javax.swing.*;
/* The purpose of this class was to create a generic frame that would
be inherited from all screen classes ...I initially had this creating a black background that would be inherited from child classes but that created
more problems when the screen was resized by one of the child classes*/
public class TLayer extends JFrame {
public TLayer() {
-----TLayer Class end
-----GameScreen class start--------
public class GameScreen extends TLayer{
private PoolApp thePoolApp;
public GameScreen(PoolApp aPoolApp) {
thePoolApp = aPoolApp; //set a reference from here to the controlling PoolApp initGameScreen(); //initialise and show GameScreen .....screen
public void initGameScreen() {
this.setSize(800,600);
this.show();
//now make a request to the poolapp controlling class to ask for a painted green table and get the paint class to paint it to screen
thePoolApp.getPaintedTable(this);
----GameScreen class end------------
----PaintScreen class start-------------
PoolApp thePoolApp;
public Paint() {
public Paint(PoolApp apoolApp) {
thePoolApp = apoolApp;
public Graphics getTbleGraphic(GameScreen aGameScreen) {
Container theCont = aGameScreen.getContentPane(); //assign the gamescreen content pane to a container
theCont.setSize(200,200); //set a viewable size to the container
Graphics thetbl = theCont.getGraphics(); //get container graphics context and assign it to a graphics object
thetbl.setColor(Color.green); //color the object
thetbl.fillRect(30,30,20,60); //fill the rectangle
return thetbl; //return the object
---PaintScreen class end---------------
This code actually draws the green rectangle to the gamescreen from the paint class .......so it works to a degree! ......whenever I resize the window the painted image dissapears, could anyone suggest a way around this also ...am I going about this the correct way? Im open to making mass changes to better the program ......the only thing I do not want is to use applets! .....as I want to learn the fundementals of custom painting my stuff
Any help is much needed and appreciated
DavidHi .....I managed to fix my problem .....but I have really had to get my head around method overiding! ......Your advice is taken onboard ...also Im going to try and find a straight forward diagram of the java graphics heirrachy ......well the parts that are reasnable to what Im doing ......Also from what I know and what you have said yes threads would definately be the way to go as far as animation and paintings concerned...I plan to do some serious research on that as I progress.
I am going to post my basic working program ........I was wandering if you think this is an effiecent way I have done this? or if you could make any recommendations? its just I dont want to adopt this approach and find its no good when I get further into the programs development :-)) anyway heres the code :
------Class PoolApp start--------------
public class PoolApp {
public PoolApp() {
GameScreen aGScreen = new GameScreen(this);
public static void main(String[] args) {
PoolApp poolApp1 = new PoolApp();
}------Class PoolApp end--------------
------Class TLayer start--------------
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.Graphics;
public class TLayer extends JFrame {
public TLayer() {
System.out.println("In TLayer default constructor");
this.setSize(800,600);
}------Class TLayer end--------------
------Class GameScreen start--------------
import java.awt.Graphics;
public class GameScreen extends TLayer {
PoolApp thepoolApp;
Table theTable;
Graphics g;
public GameScreen() {
System.out.println("In gamescreen default constructor table");
public GameScreen(PoolApp apoolApp) {
thepoolApp = apoolApp;
System.out.println("In gamescreen constructor 2");
addTable();
public void addTable() {
System.out.println("in addTable");
this.show();
//theTable = new Draw(this);
//theTable.setTable();
//theTable.paint(g);
public void paint(Graphics g) {
System.out.println("In Gamescreen paint ");
theTable = new Table(this);
theTable.paint(g);
public void update(Graphics g) {
System.out.println("In Gamescreen update ");
theTable = new Table(this);
theTable.paint(g);
}------Class GameScreen end--------------
------Class Table start--------------
import java.awt.Graphics;
import java.awt.Container;
import java.awt.Color;
public class Table extends TLayer{
GameScreen thegameScreen;
public Table() {
System.out.println("In Table default constructor");
public Table(GameScreen agameScreen) {
thegameScreen = agameScreen;
System.out.println("In Table 2nd constructor");
public void paint(Graphics theGraphic) {
System.out.println("In Table paint ");
Container tablecont = thegameScreen.getContentPane();
theGraphic = tablecont.getGraphics();
theGraphic.setColor(Color.green);
theGraphic.fillRect(310,220,180,80);
public void update(Graphics theGraphic) {
System.out.println("In Table update");
paint(theGraphic);
}------Class Table end--------------
To be honest I would rather have created a table object then added it to the content pane ....but when i did it that way ......and I resized the screen the green table graphic dissapeared .....I would also have prefered all painting of the table to be done in the table class but I had the same problem of the graphic dissapearing when the window was resized and this is the best solution I have come up with as yet ....:-) .....any recommendations are greatly appreciated
Thanks

I used to have Acrobat X Standard and I could create PDF portfolios from emails within Lotus notes (8.5.3). After upgrading to XI Pro, I seem to have lost this functionality. Furthermore, when I try to 'print' an email to create a PDF I get a print error from Lotus Notes.
Printing to an actual printer or printing to a cheap Acrobat alternative that my company installs on all computers works fine.
I bought XI Pro to use Actions, so I am not overly concerned about this issue, but am curious if anyone else is getting similar issues?Experts, does anyone had similiar problem?
