Using DV Kitchen

I am trying to use DV Kitchen to encode an HD movie from FCP. In all their glossy advertising and their "Hey guys it's all so simple blurb" they don't seem to mention exactly how you get the movie from FCP into DV Kitchen to start with.
Anyone got any ideas?

Am I missing something here? Why even use DV Kitchen in the first place. You going to the web...right.?.
1. In the link above it says to use Quicktime movie conversion from FCP, then us that file in DV Kitchen. Why would you want to re-compress you timeline?
2. Why not just send your timeline right from FCP to Compressor to make your h.264. Saves a generation and unneeded steps to DV Kitchen. or...
3. Export from FCP using Quicktime movie export. All your doing here is wrapping you timeline that is already render into a Quicktime .mov (no real quality loss, a nat's butt if any). Send that to Compressor to make your h.264.
Why is DV Kitchen even in this equation? Is DV Kitchen going to add to the quality of the footage? Did the OP buy this product thinking it going to add greatness to the fini video? I'm asking questions not tearing down. I need to know the truth so I can pass it on to others... And if I wrong, I big enough to take criticism.
And if trabant just wants to know how to use DV Kitchen...that's great too.

  • Mac G4 Freezes/Shuts Down on Its Own

I have a Powermac G4 that when using, it appears to "freeze". The mouse and keyboard become non functional, and the display looks like it is frozen.
BUT The power light appears to be off, giving the impression that the computer has intermittently shut down.
Sometimes it takes a few attempts at pressing the power button to get it to turn back on. Other times, I've pulled the plug and plugged it back in and it would boot up the first time I press the power button.
Every time I boot it back up, the system clock resets itself and I need to put in the time and date again.
I would guess it is the battery or power supply.. are there any suggestions?

    Welcome!
Nearly all Macs have a thermal sensing system that tracks CPU core temps and will shut down the computer if it gets too hot. You can get utilities to monitor the temps, like this:
    http://download.cnet.com/Temperature-Monitor/3000-2094_4-41089.html
or, since you are in Tiger, this Dashboard widget:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
I'm not sure what the critical temp is for an G4. My MDD 1.25ghz single processor has never posted a temp (via Temperature Monitor) greater than 117F/47C but dual-processor machine can run hotter. I thing the 140GF range is getting close to the danger zone.
If temps are running high, there is a physical action and a software action to consider.
The physical action is to make sue that air intakes and exhausts are not blocked. This mean keeping desk clutter away from the front panel and leaving at least six inches between the back panel and any obstruction. Also open the side door and see if there is a convention of dust bunnies clogging the air paths and fans. A good mucking out with a non-static brush can peel several degrees off the temps. I use a kitchen pastry brush with natural bristles and a wooden handle.
The software item is to see if you have a "runaway background process" demanding too much of the processor. The steps:
    1) Quite any user applications so the computer is as normal idle.
    2) Find and launch Activity Monitor (in Applications > Utilities.
    3) If you've not done so before, set AM's "Show" setting (top part of its window) from "My Processes" to "All Processes."
    4) Clip on the header item in the table that reads,"%CPU" to sort the processes by their CPU demands.
    5) Let AM run for a minute or so. No process should be taking more than about 5% of the CPU if you've quit all other user apps before starting.
If this shows one or two processes hogging the CPU, post their names and we can guide you through taming or evicting them.

  • My MacBook Air is boiling within 3 minutes of run

    Hi,
I bought my MacBook Air around end of 2010.
And recently I started experiencing overheating within 10 minutes of run by using common softwares and web browsing.
Actually sometimes I've Chrome or Firefox with over 200 tabs (with flash blocker) or compiling something in the meantime, but this is how I using a Mac in a standard way (I'm a software developer).
Now I've change my place from UK to the Switzerland, where is much hotter (30 degress), but I don't this is the case.
In following screenshot you can see the temperature from Temperature Monitor at 18.43.56 (I just turn it on and run ) and 3 minutes later at 18.46.31.
The only process was installing some software which includes some compiling, but even that it should be not so critical (90 degrees for CPU?).
P.S. I know how to use Activity Monitor and Terminal to kill the processes which I don't use, so I monitor it constantly.
I started to use ice bag (from the freezer), which helps until I'll decide to some cooling pad, but I never need that.
So my question is, what's wrong?
I was reading about SMC reset here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    but I don't believe it'll help.
I've experienced yesterday two OSX crashes, at least one per week is a standard, I think it's because of overheating.
Here is another stats from my previous session (it's normal?):
before desparately I decided to put my laptop to the fridge after the OSX crash, so I could work afterwards for the next half an hour (I know that's the bad approach, sorry).
I read already thousands of similar problem on the internet, so I assuming I'm not only the one.
    Thanks for any advises.
    Environment:
    My kernel:
    Darwin kenorbs-MacBook-Air.local 10.8.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.8.0: Tue Jun  7 16:33:36 PDT 2011; root:xnu-1504.15.3~1/RELEASE_I386 i386
I've started using ceramic kitchen table for my table, it kind of works only when I don't do nothing on my laptop, so not really helps.
    Summary:
Any ideas apart of reinstalling everything from scratch? It's time to buy a new MacBook?
Is there any advanced software or command that will give more information about the following problems?

Now it's not so extremely hot, but it's very slow, almost as Pentium 200. Even now I'm typing this post, sometimes I've to wait 0,5-1sec to see the letters appearing. When I was opening this page, I've seen some widgets were rendering. Some of the pages loading endless. When typing some commands, I've to wait few seconds until they'll terminate using Control-C. When I change the application using CMD-Tab, I've to wait 1-2 seconds untill I could use it, it appears, mouse moving, but I can't click anything (probably swap). When I'm scrolling, it's freezing every few seconds. My load average is around 2-3. Basically I can't work on my laptop anymore. I've it on cold flat surface with power supply connected. Every day or few days I'm sending to you crashes.
My system is up-to-date. I don't want Lion for now, until my laptop will work, I heard it's even slower and worse (as even the post above as example).

  • IPad Invision Smart function not working on iPad 3

    Hi,
I have an iPad 2 and i also have the invison leather case with the smart wake function and it always worked great.
I now have a new iPad (3rd Gen) luckily it fits in the case, but the smart wake no longer works. I checked all the settings and they are correct but nothing.
At fist I thought my iPad was broken, but then I used a kitchen fridge magnet to simulate the smart cover and it worked perfectly! So do I conclue from this that the magnets in the new iPad need a stronger magnet to activate them?
    Anyone found this?

I used the kitchen magnet trick, too, and found that the magnet in the rooCase I purchased is just slightly "off" the mark enough to not match up. It was "supposed" to work, but, in all honesty, how could they have known when the new iPad wasn't even on the market yet for them to try it?!? Leson learned, I guess........shouldn't have ordered that case before I had my iPad .

  • Correct iPad video dimensions?

I am putting together a video presentation to be played on an iPad. I was under the impression that the iPad's video dimensions are 1280x720 - my video is therefore 1280x729 pixels... However, when I play it on the iPad, it is played with black bars top and bottom - the video doesn't fill the entire screen....
Clearly I'm doing something wrong somewhere - this is the first time I've done this - can someone please point me in the right direction!?
    Thanks very much!

    Found the fix.
If the reboot doesn't fix it.
If the headphoens work find, but no external speakers.
If the double-click and page right to the software mute, doesn't show the sound knob - just the brightness
If your pop-up shows "Docking Station"
Then, the problem is very likely a dirty connector.  The iPad/iPhone/iPod connector uses a resistor value to determine if the device is connected to an external 'speaker'.  There are a range of resistances, for a range of products.  This is known as the Connector Pin 21 issue.
Take some windex on a que-tip, or perhaps a Windex paper scrub and rub it on the bottom connector port.  Somehow, "something" has gotten on those contacts, and it is pulling the voltage on pin #21 down - so that the iPad "thinks" it's connected to an external speaker - this will disable the internal speaker circuitry, as well as the internal speaker volume controls.
Do not over-saturate and short out your iPad.  Do not throw it in the sink, do not use the kitchen faucet to flush it out.  A Que-tip with a few drops of Windex (or other gentle cleaner) should work just fine.  Takes all of 30 seconds - and magically, the volume knob appeared and everything worked just fine.

  • Script Errors

I tried uninstall/install, debugging, changing everything for
securty and popups, i have not tried using a "kitchen sink". Now I
am getting a lot of script errors.I might just try to System
Restore before all the changes and if that doesn't work, go
flash-less. This needs to be fixed.

Open Internet Explorer 10 on the desktop (not the Start screen). On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. (If you can't see the Tools menu, press the Alt button to display the menu bar.) On the Advanced tab, click to clear the Display a notification about every script error box.

  • Is the rMBP extra sensitive to scratches?

    Hello everybody,
When I bought my rMBP all was fine and dandy. Within a week I bought the Crumpler 15" Slip, hoping it would protect my screen from any scratches and stuff. After I bought and started using the slip I suddenly found some scratches on my screen. At first I thought it was a dead pixel but the guys from the Premium Reseller said it was a scratch. They wouldn't replace my screen, because scratches on the screen weren't part of the garantee.
Frustrated I went home, I payed 2500 euro's for my rMBP (incl. AppleCare). That said, a week later (still using the Slip) a big *** black beam running from the top to the bottom of the screen:
So now they would replace the screen at my Reseller. I was happy, the scratched "pixel" was replaced too.
A month later the same thing happened, a scratch in my screen. I didn't use my kitchen knife and started scratching the surface of my screen... This all started to raise some questions in my head. I found this article from Apple for example:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4384
Prior to this rMBP I had a MBP 13" and it survived a nuclear disaster without leaving a scratch (a "little" bit exaggerated). For real: I had it for 3 years, no scratch on my screen.
Now I'm a graphic designer and I need my screen to be spot on clean. The scratch is located in the middle of my canvas in i.e. Adobe Illustrator. To check if my colors are right, I always have to move the canvas around. Very frustrating!!
    My question(s) to you all:
Are the rMBP screen more sensitive to scratches. Is a breadcrumb enough to create such a deep scratch that shows that well (like I said, looking like dead pixel)?
Is a scratch, that withholds me from doing my job efficiently, part of the AppleCare garantee?
    Thanks everyone,
    Merijn

I also have a dead pixel sized scratch on my rMBP. Just found it today. Middle of my screen and anyoning. I'm sure I will get used to it but after paying $3000USD for it just 3.5 months ago has got me fustrated. I got this screen because I am photographer and wanted that extra resolution. This screen does seem more sensitive than others I have had. My previous laptops seem like they went at least a year without a nick in the screen.
As for the AppleCare portion of the question, I am not sure. Would love to know.

  • I am having trouble with sound on my iPad

I am having trouble with sound on my iPad

  • Converting HDV 1080/60i to ???1080 at 30p?

I just cut a music video, HDV 1080i 29.97 fps. The first application for it is the web. I'd like to output it as 29.97 fps 'progressive' with the highest quality possible. I believe Compressor is the way to go ... but I'm not quite sure what the best settings should be, and what final codec should I export to.
I'm actually going to use DV Kitchen to do all the web versions, once I have a master. But I have the sneaking suspicion (I've inquired on their forum, waiting for a response) that DV Kitchen doesn't yet handle ProRes ... thus my question about what codec I might export to.
    All ears,
    Ben

    Ben,
    Check out this link:
    http://vimeo.com/forums/topic:3671
    http://vimeo.com/help/compression
You might find some helpful information there, even if you are not uploading to Vimeo, the tutorials are very useful for uploading to any site which handles HD videos.

  • IPad video camera has no sound

iPad video camera has no sound

  • Playing h.264 through the Flash player?

I want to take h.264 videos from FCP and play them on the web. I have heard there is a way to change the extension of the .mov file to .flv so that it plays through a Flash player.
1.) If I change h.264 file extension to .flv, how do you also make the same file available as a download for iPod and through iTunes as a podcast?
    Thanks.

    stanwelks,
I just went through this. It was recommended that I check out DV Kitchen. http://www.dvcreators.net/dv-kitchen/
My problem was that the only people who were able to view my video were mac users, and pc users who were brave enough to install whatever. I wanted to close this gap a little.
Without having to change any of my already uploaded QT H.264 files, I simply used DV Kitchen to create html code that calls up a specified flash player. Pretty straight forward
I'm on the trial version, but I may buy this, $80 US.
Let us know how that works out.
    Jonathan

  • Can I download an earlier version due to apps not working with 4 & 5 ?

My computer got a virus, and in the process of fixing the problem, my Firefox version ( 3.6 ) was deleted. I was using this earlier version of Firefox pre-Firefox 4 & pre-Firefox 5. I did not upgrade because a service I was using ( IKEA kitchen planning ) is not enabled for 4 or 5 at this time. The IKEA planning site is very important & necessary for me at this time.
    Thanks

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, get the Firefox 3.6 installer here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
You should be able to install Firefox 3.6 over whatever later version you installed. If you do choose to uninstall first, do ''not'' remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.
Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!
