Using Email to initiate a BPEL Process

Hi All,
We have a request to process a .csv file which comes as an attachment thru Mail.
we are able to do the setup to invoke the BPEL Process as the mail is received.
We want to know how to get attached file in BPEL Process to process it further.
We are using BPEL 10.1.3.
Please help.
Thanks and Regards,
Vikram Singh

There is currently no inbound email adapter afaict. If you want a quick solution on a unix system, I would advise you to write a custom shell/python/perl script that can do convert the inbound mail to a xml format and post that xml to a webservice (BPEL process). You can use 'curl' or 'wget' to post it to the BPEL process. This method is discussed in more detail at this Zwiki mail setup page (replace Zope by Oracle BPEL :).
See also this previous Oracle forum article Re: Using email to invoke a BPEL process, which discusses this same issue.
Hope this helps,

• Could not initiate the BPEL process :the input xml is not well formed err

Hi
I am calling a bpel process from the bpel console. It is a syncronous process and just fetches values from the database. I see that when ever i call this for some inputs i get the following error , in the response.
Could not initiate the BPEL process because the input xml is not well formed, the reason is :
Error parsing envelope: (1, 6168) Invalid char in text. Please correct the input xml.
When i see the log i have the following message

I understand that the error is coming with parsing the output from the database values. Further i see the process is completed successfully when i see the flow and log and the out is present in the output response. Has any body faced this issue. What is that character that it is nto able to parse as the error says.
Thanks
-Pradip

hi
I have tried it using both xml and the initiate tab. I get the same error every time i do it for a particular value. i further think that this is occuring for the out put response that is got from the data base as the log says. ( given in the initial post). I can surely paster the input xml for you

• "Could not initiate the BPEL process because the input xml is not well form

hi all,
i am new to BPEL and tring to create a BPEL WebServices. now i got struck up with one issue like below
"Could not initiate the BPEL process because the input xml is not well formed, the reason is : Error parsing envelope Please correct the input xml."
But according to BPEL compiler there are no errors in the design and deployment as well. when i tries to initiate the deployed WS i am facing the above issue.
can anybody help me to fix this issue. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Kalyan

hi' Kalyan,
The issue seems to be due to XSD file which you are importing while making the new BPEL process,
the XSD file is very sensitive even a simple upper case will create error, XSD file are many times used when you want
to pass some entries to be updated in the database.
use this XSD file:"discountflow.xsd"
<schema attributeFormDefault="qualified"
elementFormDefault="qualified"
targetNamespace="http://www.autoloan.com/ns/autoloan"
xmlns:tns="http://www.autoloan.com/ns/autoloan"

• Why we use Dynamic Partner Link in BPEL process

hi,
What is the purpose of using Dynamic Partner link in BPEL process ?

Hi Shankari,
apart of using the the config plan you can change the endpoint uri in runtime if you define the property "endpointURI" in your composite
<binding.ws port="http://xmlns.oracle.com/bpel/workflow/taskService#wsdl.endpoint(TaskService/TaskServicePortSAML)"
location="http://localhost:7001/integration/services/TaskService/TaskServicePortSAML?ORAWSDL"
soapVersion="1.1">
<property name="weblogic.wsee.wsat.transaction.flowOption"
type="xs:string" many="false">WSDLDriven</property>
<property name="endpointURI"
type="xs:string" >http://localhost:7001/integration/services/TaskService/TaskServicePort</property>
</binding.ws>
then right click your composite in the enterprise manager and go to "Service/Reference Properties". There you can change the endpointURI property.
You can also change the endpointURI inside your BPEL process. Go to the invoke inside the bpel process and go to the "properties" tab. There search for the property "endpointURI" and set a value.
hope this helps
cheers Nicolas

• Get Process Initiator email id in a BPEL process to send notificaions

Hi
I have a workflow where there 3 different roles and a chain of approvals among them. The final approval leads to the invocation of a BPEL process(Using Service Task) where, depending on a particular invocation in the BPEL process, I need to send emails to the task initiator.
I've configured email channel in EM, and is working fine.
My question is, how do I get the initiator details in the BPEL process which is in another role all together.
I've searched web and got this ids:getUserProperty(ora:getCreator(),'mail') but unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be working, i'm getting selectionFailure exception. Is there a way to get the Process Initiator's mail id?
Appreciate your help.
Regards
RaviKiran

Are you authenticating against WLS or some other provider? Is the mail attribute populated or is it empty?
You could create a project variable of type String to hold the username or email. Then, execute a Script task to populate the variable before calling your Service task. You could then pass the variable into your Service task as part of the contract. Obviously, you will need to update the Service contract.

• Error while using Email Activity

Env:
Win XP SP2
SOA Dev Preview 10.1.3.1
Jdev
Prob: Am trying to send an email notification to my email id. I create a new BPEL Synchronous process and drag and drop the email activity into the process. I set the details into "to", "subject" and "body" parameters.
And then I try to deploy the process.
It throws an error "URI is not hierarchical"
Can some one let me know the reasons for it.
Thanx
AJ

Thanx Clemens,
The xml that you had mentioned is same as the one I am working with. When I double click on the error in the error panel displayed in JDev, the cursor moves to the first line in the bpel file which says "".
I am still unclear as to what is the issue with the code that I am using. Following is my bpel file. Also, please let me know if there are any libraries or jar files to be included for using email activity in the bpel process.

• XML input into BPEL Process

Hi,
I am trying to create a BPEL process which receives XML input and then uses this input to insert data into the database.
I have a stored procedure which will accept the input variables and do the insert.
My XML looks like below:
<Acc_type>

ABC

</Acc_type>
My stored Procedure has to input variables - code and name. I have changed the Receive activities, Process Request to include 2 inputs - code and name.
I am not sure what changes need to be made to specify that the input will be in XML and also how to map the XML to the variables.
Also, is it possible to use the same format for the XML as used when you initiate a BPEL Process and select XML Source? If I do this will I still need to make other changes?
Thanks...

Hi,
I have tried implementing the ora:parseEscapedXML function, I have used the following expression to copy the data in the CODE node to my variable also called CODE.
ora:parseEscapedXML(bpws:getVariableData('inputVariable','payload','/client:TestXML2ProcessRequest/client:input','/Acc_Type/code'))
I get the following error message:
ORABPEL-09500 XPath expression failed to execute. Error while processing xpath expression, the expression is "ora:parseEscapedXML(bpws:getVariableData('inputVariable','payload','/client:TestXML2ProcessRequest/client:input','//Acc_Type/code'))", the reason is FOTY0001: type error. Please verify the xpath query.
I am not sure if the format of my expression is correct especially - '/Acc_Type/code'

• Initiate BPEL process by e-mail polling lost in upgrade to 11g

So, as you would know by a simple search, "e-mail polling" or e-mail as an activation agent in BPEL 10.x works wonderfully following the guidance in the link: http://blogs.bpel-people.com/2007/01/using-email-to-initiate-bpel-process.html.
Taking that process and opening it in JDev 11g and running the upgrade process, I can't find where the activation agent configuration went. The process deploys fine, but none of the e-mails are getting picked up and starting the process. I've gotten myself lost in the Weblogic 10.3.3 configuration and can't seem to build the composite application to get e-mails flowing to a BPEL process. I've tried stuff with User Messaging Service, but that seems geared more towards the Workflow app. Also, the JavaMail looks really neat, but quite lost how to incorporate that into a BPEL workflow/composite application. I am from a BPEL background, my Java skill is medium-low.
It seems some of you have this working in 11g to poll an e-mail folder and kick-off a BPEL process. I've spent too much time muddling through the docs and not being successful and I'm not sure if my problem is Weblogic configuration or coding in the BPEL composite app. For those with this working, what do you feel is the best practice and if you can provide pointers to where I might dig further to get this working, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!
-Colin

Did u find the solution for this in 11g.
I am struggling too..

• How to create a proxy of BPEL process(to initiate it) in Jdeveloper 11G

Hi All,
I am badly stuck in creating proxy of BPEL process developed in Jdeveloper 10G. It was working fine in 10G. But in 11G I am not able to do it. Even creating a
JAX-RPC mapping file is disabled in 11G. So could any one help me out. Even I want to know is there any other process to initiate a BPEL process from 11G. It's very URGENT
so please help me out.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi,
JDeveloper 11g had four technology preview releases (they came with OC4J instead of WebLogic) before production, TP4 is the forth, and SOA components came with it (not out-of-the-box, but had to be installed) including BPEL engine.
Start from here , there is a metalink note no. 565899.1 where you can find the instructions for installing SOA on JDeveloper 11g TP4.
So, you need to:
- download and install [JDeveloper 11g TP4|http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jdev/htdocs/soft11tp.html]
- install SOA on it (instructions on metalink)
I used JDeveloper 11g R1 for my application because TP4 had some bugs when working with asynchronous web services.
Ask away if you have any problems.

You shoul create a while loop, that loops through XML payload for each row. Than you can process each individual row. See also example:

• Invoking asynchronous BPEL process from java ui

Hi,
I am invoking an asynchronous BPEL process from java ui.
I read somewhere that i can obtain an instance handler uing the lookupInstance() method of class Locator using the conversation id provided by the class NormalizedMessage.
My code looks like this
// Connect to Oracle BPEL server
Locator locator = new Locator("default","bpel");
IDeliveryService deliveryService = (IDeliveryService)locator.lookupService(IDeliveryService.SERVICE_NAME );
// Construct a normalized message and send to Oracle BPEL Process Manager
NormalizedMessage nm = new NormalizedMessage();
nm.addPart("payload", xml);
// Initiate the BPEL process
deliveryService.post("MyLoanFlow", "initiate", nm);
//Obtain the instance handler
IInstanceHandle handle = locator.lookupInstance(NormalizedMessage.CONVERSATION_ID);
But this is giving the error - can not find any instance with conversation id 'conversationId'.
Also, if i try to obtain a list of instance handles associated with a process , it does not contain the most recently created instance
IBPELProcessHandle ph = locator.lookupProcess("MyLoanFlow");
IInstanceHandle[] iHandler = ph.listInstances();
out.println(iHandler.length + "
");
if i invoke the process for the first time the output is 0.
can you please help me. it is urgent.

Hi Sudipto,
Regarding your second question,
deliveryService.post("MyLoanFlow", "initiate", nm);
IBPELProcessHandle ph = locator.lookupProcess("MyLoanFlow");
IInstanceHandle[] iHandler = ph.listInstances();
out.println(iHandler.length + "
");
---- returns 0 ---
This is because MyLoanFlow is an asynchronous process in your case. So the control is returned to your java block immediately after the request for a new instance is posted. And your second line of code(querying for the list of instances) is executed even before the instance is created on the server side. You can verify this in two ways:
1. try creating an instance of a synchronous process using IDeliveryService.request - this will always result in the increment since the current thread is blocked till the new instance is created.
2. for your case, you can try
Thread.currentThread().sleep(500); - just allow the server some time for completing the instance before you query it for the list of instances..
and wrt question 1,
//Obtain the instance handler
IInstanceHandle handle = locator.lookupInstance(NormalizedMessage.CONVERSATION_ID);
But this is giving the error - can not find any instance with conversation id 'conversationId'.
For setting the conversationId, you could do so by including the following inside your .bpel file
<bpelx:exec name="test-setConversationId" language="java" version="1.4">

setConversationId("conversationId");

</bpelx:exec>
The code:
IInstanceHandle ins = locator.lookupInstanceByConversationId(NormalizedMessage.CONVERSATION_ID);
should fetch you the required instance in this case.

• Invoking BPEL process from Java servlet with org.w3c.dom.Element as payload

Hello,
I'm trying to initiate a BPEL process from my servlet running under Tomcat. When I create the NormalizedMessage passing the XML as a String everything works fine. But if I use an org.w3c.domElement the BPEL server doesn't react at all (even on DEBUG log level there are no outputs).
This works:
NormalizedMessage message = new NormalizedMessage();
message.addPart("payload", "<foo></foo>");
This doesn't work:
org.w3c.dom.Element elem;
oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLDocument xmlDocument;
NormalizedMessage message = new NormalizedMessage();
Element elem = xmlDocument.createElement("foo");
message.addPart("payload", elem);
Is there a known problem with payloads using Element or did I get something completely wrong? Thanks in advance,
Hans.
