Using Extreme in Bridge mode, can't see the DHCP clients if the D-Link router

I have an Airport Extreme attached to my DLink modem/router.  I have configured the Airport Extreme in Bridge mode, and I was expecting all clients to show up in my D-Link router.  Although the configuration works most of the time, I have been experience a few issues:
1.  From time to time, computers attached (both Windows and/or Mac) complain about an IP address conflict.  I can ignore the error and it works fine.
2. From time to time, I loose Internet connectivity, and I need to disconnect my computer and reconnect again to solve the issue.  This is not necessarily linked to symptom #1
3. On my D-Link router/modem (which I only use to connect my Airport to my ISP), if I check the DHCP clients, I can see the Airport router connected and *some* of the wireless clients that connect through the Airport.  The list changes quite randomly, and at times, I see the airport appearing twice with different IP addresses.
Any help configuring it "right" will be appreciated!
Alain

When the AirPort Extreme is in bridge mode, the AirPort Extreme is simply passing through the DHCP settings and services that are handled by the D-Link modem/router.
In other words, the D-Link device is in total charge of the DHCP services for devices on the network.
You might want to check with D-Link support to see if they have any recommended practices for configuing the modem/router when another router....the AirPort Extreme in this case....is being used in bridge mode on the network

  • Using an airport extreme in both bridged mode and guest network with DHCP

I currently use a third-generation airport extreme in bridge mode to connect my various Mac servers To the Internet. I'm using bridge mode on the AirPort Extreme because I have up to five static IP address (only using three now) I am currently not using the wireless network, and none of the servers are serving DHCP. I am looking at the Newer airport extreme with guest network Wi-Fi. My question is, does the new airport extreme base station support bridge- mode for any devices and host DHCP for the guest network connecting wirelessly to the base station?

The AirPort Extreme cannot be in Bridge Mode and support a Guest Network.
The AirPort must be configured to provide DHCP and NAT services if you want to enable the Guest Network function.
If you really do have a 3rd Gen AirPort Extreme, it will support the Guest Network feature if you connect the AirPort directly to a simple modem.....not a modem/router or gateway type of devices.......and configure the AirPort to provide DHCP and NAT services for the network.

  • Using an Airport Express with an Airport Extreme in bridge mode

Im trying to use an Airport extreme and an Airport express to have good Wifi coverage in a house. The current Wifi is from a Verizon Westfall modem/router. I went into setup on the modem/router and disabled the wifi, then connected the Extreme to one of the 4 ports on the modem/router. I setup the Extreme in bridge mode ( because I believe I dont want 2 differnt routers handing out local IP's, right? . Anyway, it seems to work fine but I'm trying now to hook up an Express to widen my wifi area. I have cat5 ports all over the house that go back to the Exteme's location so its not a problem to connect the Extreme to the Express via ethernet cable. Im wondering if its possible to use the Express hardwired to the extreme while in Bridge mode because I cant seem to set it up properly. Can anyone out there answer that question and/or give me instructions on setting up this scenerio.
    Thanks!

I will reset it like you said and then I should have the cable from the Extreme going to witch port on the express?
    WAN "O" port
To set up the Express, open AirPort Utility, click on the Express and click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab just below the icons to assign a device name for the Express, device password, adjust Time Zone, etc. Should look like this, in general:
Click the Wireless tab next to Base Station. Adjust as follows:
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Exact same wireless network name as the AirPort Extreme
Enter check mark next to Allow to be extended
Radio Mode = Automatic or same setting as the AirPort Extreme
    Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Exact same setting as the AirPort Extreme
Wireless Password = Same wireless password as the AirPort Extreme
    Verify Password
Setting should look like this, in general:
Click the Internet icon, then click the Internet Connection tab.
    Connect Using = Ethernet.
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
    Click Update to save settings
    Things will look like this:
You will see a green light in 25-30 seconds.
Be sure to restart the entire network.

  • Extreme running in bridge mode, can't get out past router or firewall

    Hello
I have my Laptop, Mini and an older PC connected to my wireless network via my new airport extreme. I had teh system connected and got the solid green light but no internet. After putting the extreme into bridge mode everything works fine. The problem I have now is that I can't activate my web cam it says that i am blocked behind a firewall or router. I have been told that to get out from behind the router of firewall I need to be out of the bridge mode, but when I try this I loose my internet connection??? Anybody have a suggestion???

Warnercj7, Welcome to the discussion area!
I guess the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) is connected to a modem of some type. It appears that the modem is operating as a router.
You will need to configure the modem/router so that the appropriate ports are forwarded through the modem/router to the web cam.

  • Why do I lose internet connection when I put airport extreme into bridge mode to correct Double NAT issue

I reset my airport extreme router the other day because I was too lazy to reset the password on my private network.
I have been reading the advice found on apple support communities and wide web, but the solutions do not solve any problems and often create new ones.
I'm regretting because everything was working just fine.
But I remember having this double nat error when I first set it up a few months back, but now I cannot resolve it.
I would live with the yellow light, but it seems that this double nat error is preventing my playstation 3 from connecting to the airport extreme.
When I put the aiport extreme into bridge mode, I loose all my wireless networks, even when I reboot the airport extreme and the modem.
I try rebooting the modem, then the airport. and vice versa. No internet.
I switch back to NAT/DCHP and the internet works fine on apple devices, but not the playstation 3, and I have the 1 Double NAT error.
I have a plain stock Motorolla modem and I can dial in and see settings (although nothing about NAT). I didn't see where to see them.
I tried setting the DHCP only but it said it didn't like the settings. is there a stock range i could be using?

I have a plain stock Motorolla modem and I can dial in and see settings (although nothing about NAT). I didn't see where to see them.
Exact model .. motorola make adsl, cable and probably wireless modems.. with some modems and some modem router.. we need exact info. What kind of broadband do you have?
I would note.. some of the motorola cable modems seem to have issues with the apple routers. If you are about due to change modems.. now is a good time.. not another motorola.
If the modem is a straight cable modem, the AE must be in router mode.. but you need to power down the cable modem. maybe for 20min so the new router can pick up the IP address.
You cannot use DHCP alone.. the ISP do not give you a block of IP addresses.
You cannot use bridge with a pure modem.. you will find it works.. but only to one device.
The only reason you get double NAT is the failure to pick up the public IP.
    Give the info required..
If you have trouble, I need the actual IP of the modem. the actual IP of the AE WAN port when plugged in. Screenshots are good.

  • New Airport Extreme in Bridge mode -- some devices have no internet access

I just bought a new Airport Extreme as my old one which was probably 7 years old required restarting every day. My setup is as follows: DSL cable modem to Linksys Router (for a long set of convoluted reasons, I can't remove this layer) and then Airport Extreme. This is how I had it set up with my old one. The only difference is I recently started looking into using "Back to the Mac" on MobileMe and in order for it to work, I set my new Airport Extreme to Bridge mode due to dual NAT. I have an iMac, PC, MBP, MBA, iphone 4, AppleTV and ipad. All was working fine last night when I set it up. 24 hours later, for some odd reasons, I can't have my PC accessing the wireless network at the same time. If I did, it would knock my iMac off the network and says some other device is using the same IP address. For a while, only my iMac (my main computer) can access it and even my iphone can't. At this very moment, my iphone, imac and MBP all have access to the wireless network. My MBA and iPad has no internet connection. I've restarted Airport Extreme, Linksys, and modem more than once... If I switch back to "Use Public IP Address" instead of Bridge mode, everything works except for "Back to the Mac"... Help!

Hey Bob, Thanks...I have already repeated that multiple times yesterday and today but to no avail. I tried to get into the Linksys router control panel but unfortunately we can't remember the username and password (the router is not mine). The make things even more complicated, the router is actually part of the internet package provided by the ISP and they use a PPPoE to log in. Theoretically, we could do a hard reset but the problem is the ISP will not release the PPPoE information unless we sign a long and complicated form saying we want to bypass their Linksys router. We can do that but this process will take days and weeks... Our ISP confirmed that the Linksys router is set to max out at 5 DHCP but we can only connect 3 machines at a time. They are coming out to take a look tomorrow but in the meantime I have reset the Airport Extreme to "Distribute a Public IP Address" mode which will allow access to all computers/devices. What's even more weird is that if I did the Bridge mode, it messes up the Linksys router's own network as well. We can't even just sign into that network... Any ideas why?

  • How do I put AirPort Extreme in bridging mode from iOS app?

I need to put my AirPort Extreme into bridging mode. I've searched here and the Net and can only find how to do it from a Mac. Can someone please tell me how to do it from the iOS AirPort Utility? This is a Windows and iOS device only network. I do not have any Macs and the Windows version of the utility so far only supports the Express.

Thanks for the response, although I was a bit crestfallen at first, since I had already got that far but could not change the Router Mode. Your response did let me know I was indeed on the right path so I started thinking about what else might need to be changed. I finally figured out that before selecting "Advanced" you need to:
    Select Internet Connection
Change from PPPoE to DHCP in the top group of three buttons
    Then continue as you described
At that point I could change the Router Mode to Off and I'm happily WiFi-ing with my spiff new Apple router. Ah well, that's what I get for not having any Macs

  • Airport extreme in bridge mode or not?

    Hello
I have an Thomson TG789vn non-apple router and a AirPort Extreme. The Thomson-router is connected to the Airport Extreme with a ethernet-cabel and the thomson is set in DHCP/NAT and the Airport Extreme is set in bridge mode.
Is this the best setup for my Airport Extreme, or is it better to set the non-apple router in bridge mode and the Airport Extreme in DHCP/NAT-mode?
    Regards
    Morten Joki Haukeberg

I think if you are using Back To My Mac you need your A.E. in DHCP/NAT-mode
    That is correct.
Also, if you want to create a guest network, i think the A.E needs to be in DHCP/NAT-mode.
    That is also correct.
Its just a bit tricky to set the non-apple router in brigde mode, thats why I would like to know first,
Is is usually more than a bit tricky to try to completely reconfigure a modem/router or gateway to act as a simple modem. Sometimes, it is not possible, other times very difficult to easy. It all depends on the device.
In most cases, it would be much, much simpler.....if you want to run the AirPort in DHCP and NAT mode, to use a simple bridge mode modem.....rather than try to reconfigure a modem/router.
If possible, ask your service provider if they might be able to furnish you with a simple, bridge mode modem.....if you want to use the AirPort as the main router providing DHCP and NAT functions for the network.

I can't see netTV from Mediaset on the ipad because I cannot install Silverlight. Is there any ipad compatible Silverlight version goin to be released? When?
Or is there any other apple application I can use in place of Silverlight?
I just want to see a service I'm paying for on the ipad instead of PC, it should be allowed!!!!
    Roberto

I red about a Silverlight 5 version that should run also on ipad/iphone, annouced last year for 2011, but I can't find any recent update. On apple store you can find a silverlight 3 version at 5.99$, but it does not seem to be the same thing, just same name.
I'm not sure that this closure is a good policy from apple side. If I knew in advance I would never buy an ipad.

  • AirPort Extreme / Green Light ON / Can't see it on network

    My Setting
Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi (4th Gen) and Motorola Surfboad Model SB6120 with Comcast service
Solid Green Light is ON / Internet is working with LAN line connection on Airport Extreme.
    Problem
I can not see it from wireless.
    Attempts
Scan with Airport Utitity from my MacBook Pro
Scan with Airport Utility from iPhone 4
    Scan with other PCs.....

Your problem might stem from having your Airport create a "private" or "hidden" network or by having turned off the wireless functionality of the AE.
If you think you might have setup a private network, but don't know the name, or turned off the wireless, you can:
    - connect your MBP by ethernet cable; then,
    - adjust the WiFi settings to enable wireless clients; or
    - adjust the Wireless security to disable a hidden or private network.
If all else fails, perform a hard factory reset by holding down the physical reset button in the back of the AE with a paperclip, and redo the setup.
    Good Luck.

  • On my iPad I have got a lot of "other" memory being used (18gb) why? I can't see anything on there!

On my iPad I have got a lot of "other" memory being used (18gb) why? I can't see anything on there!

How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Time Capsule with Extreme in Bridge Mode

I want to connect a Time Capsule (latest version) to an Airport Extreme (latest version) in bridge mode.  Is it possible to have a guest network with this configuration?  If so, how do I configure the stations?

I currently own the latest version of Airport Extreme (not in bridge mode) and was thinking about adding a Time Capsule for extending the network in my home and for data backups.
OK, got that. You asked about a Guest Network earlier.....does the AirPort Extreme currently provide both a "main" and "guest" network?
I wanted to make the T.C. my main router and wire it to my existing Extreme (after a factory reset).
Here, I am confused.....since you just noted that you wanted to add the Time Capsule to extend the AirPort Extreme network?  In that case, the Time Capsule will extend the main network....and the guest network provided by the AirPort Extreme.
But....the Time Capsule will not be the main router in this type of setup. It will be the extending device.....unless.....you mean to say that you plan to swap roles and locate the Time Capsule where the Airport Extreme currently is located and vice versa.  Is this what you want to do?
From what i've read on Apple sites, I should set the A.E. in bridge mode, correct?
You don't need to set the extending router in Bridge Mode.....AirPort Utility will do that for you automatically during the setup.
It sounds like you may be reading some older support documents and thinking that you must manually configure Bridge Mode. This is no longer required. The extending device will be configured in Bridge Mode by AirPort Utility.  You do not have to worry about doing this yourself.
