Using ITunes to import from analog

Since buying an Apple laptop for my wife, I've been hooked to iTunes. In the "main" Windows XP PC, I downloaded iTunes. Other than some problems with remote Airport station (only from Windows), the program has exceeded my expectation. (My next main computer will be Apple.)
I would love to remove Music Match from my hard drive, except it has one function unavailable to iTunes? I have a collection of vinyl (remember those?) that I would like to convert to mp3 or mp4 and Music Match has that capability.
Does iTunes have that capabilty to import analog audio or is there a "plug in" available?

Sorry - but no, iTunes hasn't the capability to import/record from line in.
For that you have to use an application like "CD Spin Doctor" (that's included in Toast) or another similar application.

  • ITunes says I didn't use iTunes to import songs. Huh?!

I imported CDs while not connected to the internet. Later I got online so I could retrieve the song titles but I got a message saying: "iTunes can not get CD track names for songs that were not imported using iTunes. To allow iTunes to import CD track name for this song, import the song again using iTunes."
The thing is, I did use iTunes to import the songs (what else would I have used!)
    Any ideas what to do?!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I've got a similar problem. I'd like to import my old mp3 collection to iTunes and make use of the "download cover" feature to have all tracks of an album display the correct cover. However, the only thing iTunes gives me is "iTunes can not get CD track names...".
Though I did not use iTunes to import/create those mp3 I'd like to be able to get this information since I don't plan to re-import 200+ CD's with iTunes only to be able to see the cover.
Is there a way to get around that message and have iTunes import the albums with the cover?
    Thanks.

  • Need to reinstall Itunes to import from CD??

After installing latest v ITunes it looks to install ok. However when launching I get shown in order to import from CD I need to reinstall ITunes. I have tried several times, tried the hints on the Apple website but none of them work....
Any ideas it's now driving me nuts???

As you've found out, since you've got a Canadian credit card you need to be in Canada and use the Canadian iTunes store.
iTunes itself is global, it's the country that you've got selected on the bottom of the store page that is the problem - click on the USA flag at the bottom and then chose Canada instead.

  • What encoder MP3 uses iTunes for import CD?

I have a PC with Windows XP SP2 c Windows Media Player 9 with a installed Intervideo XPack (MP3 encoder and DVD codec). My WMP uses to import CD encoder from Intervideo.
*My question is: what encoder uses iTunes? Own or from Windows?*
P.S. Sorry for my english, i'm russian.

I understand iTunes uses its own MP3 encoder and it has performed badly in listening tests.
    http://www.rjamorim.com/test/mp3-128/results.html
If you want to use MP3 it is probably better to rip your CDs with another program even if you use iTunes for listening.
    This doesn't apply to AAC.

  • Importing from analog VHS-C camcorder to iMovie

I'm using a Panasonic PV-L552DH analog VHS-C camcorder (it's several years old) plugged into a Pinnacle Studio Movie Box. The sales person at the store said that iMovie on my iMac G5 would recognize the camera without loading any additional software (the Pinnacle device only has Windows software). Is there any way to import analog videos from my Panasonic PV-L552DH analog VHS-C camcorder?
I followed all of the instructions on the various help pages but it won't work with my iMac G5.

Joe, it looks like maybe you could kill 2 birds with one stone here. I had the same problem a year ago or so. I decided to buy a new Canon ZR200 camcorder that uses MiniDV tapes. But, the beauty here is that along with the camera being, well, a camera, it also can be used as a pass-through to convert old analog tapes from either an 8mm, VHS, or VHS-C camera. Just take the a/v cables out from the older camcorder, send them to the a/v port on the ZR200, and take the firewire cable from the ZR200 and send it to the firewire port on your mac. I do it all of the time, works flawlessly. Very simple. Costs about $250 for the camera, would probably cost you about $150-$200 for a converter only.

  • Is there an easy way to use MOVE when importing from card reader?

In Lightroom 1, I would hit File -> Import From Disk which would allow me to move photos from my card reader to the hard drive.
In Lightroom 3, the only option is the normal import dialog and in order to get the "Move" option I have to select "other source" and then scroll down the list to select the card reader in order to get the "Move" option.  It's a pain to do it every time.  (not to mention my wife will never do it and just use "copy").
So my question is, "Is there a way to get the Move option to be available by default on my card reader?"
It's been my workflow since 2004 to have the images deleted directly after I copy them off the memory card using Adobe software (Photoshop Album 2.0, Photoshop Elements 4, Lightroom 1.0).  I'm really hoping there is an easy way to accomplish this in Lightroom 3. Otherwise I will be pretty disappointed.

The reason I like the move command so much is that I know when photos are on my memory cards that the are not on my computer.
LR defaults to not importing suspected duplicates.  so if there are still files on the card, they will be grayed out. That's how you can know.

What do you all use in your work flow to delete the pictures left on your memory cards after they are copied?
I have a shell file that removes the files from the card and ejects the disk.  I keep it in my dock for easy access.
Others will tell yiou, though, to format in camera. Which is a good idea! I just like to keep my cards empty and ready.

  • ITunes not importing from CD's

iTunes has started messing up while importing from std music CD's. It will process all of the songs in under 5 seconds, and list them all of a duration of 789:57. This obviously is not correct and none of them play.
Windows Media Audio has no problem importing the songs and I have been able to then import them one at at time into iTunes (a real pain!). I have removed and re-installed iTunes to no avail.
    Any help here?

Same problem here... additionally it seems like itunes hangs up when importing some CDs; it eventually will import the CD at extremely slow speeds WITHOUT a "time remaining" bar. Times are listed as the enigmatic 789:57:13.
With me, it's totally random. Most of the time I can just abort and reburn, or reburn the particular tracks.
I had "error correction" unchecked already when this was happening. I just checked it and oddly things seem to be working fine now. Importing as ACC.
I went through a diagnostics of the cdrom drive as well as my whole system. There's no rhyme or reason for this problem as it happens:
    1) with old CDs or new,
1.5) doesn't matter which track - totally random
    2) with or without other apps running
    3) seems to be a problem with older Itunes versions as well.
I'll keep you posted here if it happens again. Seems like a common enough problem, but no definitive solutions.

  • Using WMP to import from iTunes

Can you import music to Windows Media Player?

Yes I can. Any other questions?
Ha, ha. Actually I am not sure what you are asking, but I will take a few stabs:
If you have MP3s in your iTunes library, yes you can add them to your Windows Media Library. You can set WMP to do this automatically if you wish.
If you have purchased DRM-protected files from the iTunes Music Store, no you cannot add them to WMP (or any other non-Apple program for that matter).
If you have CDs, yes you can use WMP to rip them.
Did that answer what you are asking?

  • Using Aperture to import from an iPhoto picture disk?

I saved a large collection of photos from another Mac on iPhoto DVDs that I would like to install a new Mac, but not in the iPhoto library, since I will be using Aperture. How may I most effectively get the photos from the iPhoto disk onto my new Mac in the organization I had on the other Mac? The iPhoto library folders of originals isn't organized the same way it's presented in iPhoto, but I really don't want to have to import into iPhoto, then export onto HD folders and then import into Aperture. Yet, I also don't want simply to copy 5,000 original photo files onto this computer and have to reorganize 7 years of photos by hand again.
Can Aperture import directly from this DVD? I didn't see how ...
    Thanks!

  • Use iTunes library file from old account

Earlier: Lion on Macbook Pro, one SSD drive for system and one for media. Moved iTunes library to the Media drive, and told iTunes, worked like a charm.
Now, after having formated the system disc and reinstalled system (Mountain Lion), I replaced the new "emtpy" Itunes Music Library xml and itl files in Users/Me/Music/Itunes with the ones from the backup I made before formating. Thought it would be this simple, but iTunes just starts upp with an empty library part from some songs on my desktop. Import playlist won't work either – noting happens.
Thank you in forehand for any helpful answer.

Oh , sorry about the confusion.
The actual audio files are in a directory I created myself on the Media drive long ago. But, according to the clone of the old system that I made as a backup before formatting, iTunes still keeps its index files in Systemdrive/Users/Me/Music/iTunes, regardless of the actual location of the songs. So the songs are exactly where they always been on an untouched drive. Therefore I believed that if I copied the old xml and itl files to User/Music/iTunes on the new system drive, iTunes would use these on startup, and present the library exactly as it was on the "old" system.
I hope this was a bit clearer. Thank you for your help.

  • Importing from analog turntable.  How to best do this OSX

Is it possible to create a Midi device using Pinnacle MovieBox to import analog records. What is the easiest way to do this?

    so what am I missing?
You're missing an audio editor. iTunes can only handle and convert digitized music.
There are several editors (commercial and shareware) available, like Peak, Sound Studio and Amadeus.
The freeware program Audacity ( http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ) does a good job.
