Using Mifi to do wireless printing

Hey everyone,
I just moved to a rual area that has no internet, so I just got set up on a mifi hotspot for the first time. I've been able to connect my laptop to my wireless printer and I'm able to print, which is great! But my question is when I'm using the mifi to do my printing is that using data? It seems like that would be local, but I just wanted to check because I do lots of printing and I don't want to go over my data cap.
Thanks!

Hello and great question!
Printing from your local machine is not recorded and will not impact your bill.  If the file sitting on your computer when you are not connected to the internet then you are good to go.  The same goes for sharing files and pictures between local computers.
However, printing documents from an online resource will count against you.  Anything that needs to be downloaded from the internet (temporary or permanent) will be charged and reflected on your bill.  The MiFi only cares about uploads and downloads to the Verizon network, anything else is free.

There is no download; you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD.

  • Connecting MiFi 5510L to wireless printer?

The old MiFi (4510) connected just fine. The new one (5510L) has apparently not got the ability to go into either "WiFi Protected Access" or "AOSS," which are the two standardized access modes for wireless printers (a Brother HL-2270DW). Has anyone had any success in connecting the MiFi 5510L to a wireless printer? The online manual is mute on the subject, and the Verizon phone support was useless.

MiFis do not come equiped with WPS or whatever AOSS is.  Those are features on normal home routers and have never been offered on a MiFi.
If you want to connect your Brother wireless pritner to the MiFi then you must enter the connection information manually into the printer.  MiFis use standard WiFi connection technologies like WPA2 and AES to secure wireless connections.  Your printer needs to have a way to enter that information so that it knows how to connect.  Unless you can recall specifically changing your MiFis wireless security the default should be WPA2 (Personal) and AES.  Use the same WiFi password that you use with your PC to connect the MiFi to the printer.
You need to work with Brother on this one.  They have the expertiese on how to configure and connect your printer to a wireless network.  The printer will see the MiFi like any other home wireless router.  Once you find out how to create a new Wireless Connection on the printer you will be good to go.

  • HP webservices tab not available when using HP Jetdirect 2700w wireless print server

I recently bought HP Laserjet Enterprise 500 m551 dn color laser printer with HP jetdirect 2700w wireless print server ( one day old at this time).
I was able to configure the device and enable/ use eprint services using the embedded server with a wired connection.
However when I attach a the mentioned wireless print server, the "Webservices" tab disappears from the configuration website, the printer reports that the eprint services are not enabled and ofcourse hp eprint or google cloud print do not work. The printer appears offline at eprintcenter. Everything else works fine.
On the product website for the wireless server, it clearly states that this is compatible with eprint services.
    What am I doing wrong.

  • Cannot use BOTH HP 8600 wireless printer pro in office and home

I bought the same unit so I could interchange cartridges and parts as well as the ease of software, the home printer works fine wireless, but does not work at the office. The only way that it can be used is to plug in the ethernet cable and that defeats the reason that I bought it. Many are plugged in since this has an office with Mac and such that all feed into.

    Hi UCRToledo,
Welcome to the HP support forums. I understand that the Officejet Pro 8600 you have in your office will not maintain a wireless connection.
I have included a trouble shooting document for when the printer doesn't maintain a wireless connection. It has a section dedicated to many common causes of why the printer would be unable to maintain a wireless connection. I have also included a link to your user guide. There is a section dedicated to wireless problems starting on page 138.

  • Using Airport Express for wireless printing and possibly streaming music

I have had the toughest time figuring out this Airport Express. It seems there are so many different ways to set it up. I've tried to read forums but just can't seem to wrap my head around what I need to do. I tried awhile back to join my network wirelessly but was having problems.
I don't really care about extending my current network. My internet service is through Verizon Fios and the router they provided works just fine and don't have any issues with connecting anywhere in the house. I bought the AE to be able to print wirelessly and stream music from my iMac in another room.
So to print wirelessly obviously the printer has to be plugged in to the AE, but does the AE have to be plugged into my router? Or can I have the AE anywhere in the house wherever the printer is? When I print, am I using my existing network or do I have to disconnect a computer from the wireless network and access a 2nd network to be able to print?
My first priority is to print wirelessly. If I can get it to work It'd be cool to stream music from my iMac. Obviously the AE needs to be where the speakers are, but again, does the AE have to plugged in to the router? And again, is this done through my existing network? Or do I have to stream music through a 2nd network? I apologize if i'm asking the same questions that have been asked in previous forums, I just haven't been successful thus far so wanted to see what response or tips I could get. Thanks.
My existing network has "WPA Personal" security set up on it if you need to know that.

but does the AE have to be plugged into my router? Or can I have the AE anywhere in the house wherever the printer is?
If you configure the Express correctly to "join" your FIOS wireless network, you can position it anywhere that it will receive a good, strong wireless signal.
The trick to setting the Express up to "join" is that you must choose exactly the same type of security for the Express as your main router is using. This is tricky when you are using devices from two different manufacturers because they often use different names for the same thing.
For example, when you say that the FIOS is setup to WPA Personal, we really need more information. There's usually a TKIP or AES associated with WPA. You have two choices on the Express for WPA settings, WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal. We can only guess which one might be the correct match for your FIOS network and if you don't choose the right setting, the Express cannot join the network and you have to start the configuration all over again from scratch and try the other setting.
Does your Fios have a setting for WPA2 Personal? Some manufacturers label this WPA2-PSK (AES). Or, maybe you find that your FIOS is using WPA-PSK (TKIP), which is the same thing as Apple WPA/WPA2 Personal. It's confusing. That's why we tell users to choose wireless gear from the same manufacturer. It's much easier when two devices talk the same language.
When I print, am I using my existing network or do I have to disconnect a computer from the wireless network and access a 2nd network to be able to print?
If you have a compatible printer plugged into the USB port on the AirPort Express and have "installed" the printer by setting it up, you will be able to print over your existing wireless network.
First things first. You need to get the Express setup to "join" correctly and get a green light. Then, tackle the printer setup.

Many questions to this answer for printing wireless.
    1) can my Quicksilver 2002 use a Airport Extreme
card? If not what is my other option since I can't
    find a normal Airport card?
No, the QS2002 uses the original AirPort card. Look at the Linksys WET54G as a good solution, or you may also choose a PCI card, like the Sonnett Aria.
    2) I want to get the AirPort Express to print
wireless, will I need the AirPort Base Station to do
    that?
The AirPort Express is a base station. Your set-up of the AX will depend on your current networking equipment.
    3) I would also like to print with with PC Laptop
    that has a Intel(R) Pro/wireless 29151A BG Network

    It will.

  • HT4356 Can I use a wireless printer that is not AirPrint, but is WiFi capable?

I'm trying to enable my iPhone 4 to a wireless enabled printer but, the printer isn't on the AirPrint list for Canon (PIXMA-MP495).
My laptop is connected to the printer wirelessly.
So I guess my question is; Can I enable the printer wirelessly to my phone?

iOS devices use AirPrint to perform wireless printing, your User Guide will explain how to set it up.  But you need an AirPrint enabled printer or app to provide the right interface.

  • Wireless Print Server

I have a BTHub 3 connecting two wireless home PCs, all working well.
I would like to add a shared printer (HP LaserJet P2055d)
It is not possible to locate the printer with the BTHub3 and make use of the USB port.
I am looking at using a TP-Link Wireless Print Server but unsure if this is feasable and if so how to set it up

    Hi PeterDee,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. None of the versions of the BT Home Hub are designed to act as a print server. Connecting a printer to the USB socket won't work, and we don't support this. Some people claim that they've managed to share printers in this way. But the success might be specific to their printer and the Hub just doesn't support this feature. You might have better luck with the TP-Link Wireless print server. Let us know how you get on.
    Cheers

  • Suddenly cannot print to Canon wireless printer

I'm on an iMac with Yosemite 10.10.3 and also have two Macbooks on the same network. We have been using a Canon MG6620 wireless printer for several months without a hitch. Suddenly, between documents, the printer and computers stopped talking to each other. The printer still thinks it's on the network when I check its configuration. AirPort Utility still shows it being connected to the network via my AirPort Extreme. It still shows as the default printer in System Preferences. Yet, when I try to print I get an error that says "the printer is not connected to the network." I have restarted/rebooted the computers and the printer. I have reset the printer preferences. I have unplugged the printer. I have tried printing from the Macbooks. Nothing is working, and this happened literally between me printing two different documents!!! I'm at a loss for an explanation. Any guidance would be appreciated. Oh, and this all started BEFORE I updated to 10.10.3, so don't blame the update :-)

Now everything is working, at least for the moment! I can now see my printer at its IP address but it asks for a password.
Don't worry about that. The main thing is that you can now connect to the internal web page of the printer, which in turn means you can now print to the Canon.

  • Wireless printing w/Mac and PC

    Help!
I can print wirelessly over my AE using Rendezvous with no problem; however, I can't figure out how to adjust my system to allow a PC using Windows XP to wirelessly print over the same local network.
I did check the "Printer Sharing" in my Sharing Folder preferences... but to no avail. The PC setup wizard just does not "see" my HP Desktop 5100 during its search for printers.
