Using more than one external drive with apple tv and itunes

I've searched the forums and haven't found a clear answer for this. Is it possible to use two seperate drives for the itunes library? I've already filled up my external firewire drive and would like to get another one.
I've read in several places that people are doing this, but haven't found clear instructions on how its done.
Much thanks!

I don't think you can have more then one folder designated as you itunes library folder, so you can not have more then one drive for your library folder. However you can use more than one drive for you content. I have 6 drives that I use right now. I store the movies and tv shows on those drives. I drag a movie into then library tab in itunes and it just links itunes to the path of the movie. To do this however you have to unclick a option in itunes. It is the menu that you tell the path to you library, you have to unclick “copy to your library” not sure if this is the exact name of this. If you don't do this it will try to copy the movie you dragged in instead of linking it. I actually have nothing in my Itunes library folder. You can also do this with purchased content as well. Just move the purchase content to a drive of your choice from the itunes library. Delete it from itunes. Then drag it into itunes from the new drive. I hope this all makes sense, let me know if you have any other questions.

    Create a concatenated disk set
Increase storage space with a concatenated RAID set (also called “Just a Bunch of Disks” or JBOD). If you need one large disk, but you have only several smaller disks, you can create a concatenated disk set to use several small disks as one large disk.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in Launchpad.
Select one of the disks that you want in the set, and then click RAID.
Click Add (+), and type a name for the RAID set.
Choose a format from the Format pop-up menu. Usually you’ll choose the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format.
Choose Concatenated Disk Set from the RAID Type pop-up menu.
Drag the disks you want to add to the set to the list on the right.
    Click Create.

Disk Utility 12.x: Create a RAID set - Apple - Support
Note that the biggest CON to concatenated RAID configurations is vulnerability to volume failure. If either disk fails, the whole volume fails. If you choose this option, I would highly recommend backing up your music to a cloud service. There are very cheap per GB/storage, and some of the most reputable actually offer unlimited storage:

  • Can on use more than one hard drive to backup with time machine ?

Can one use more than one hard drivewith time machine ?

Yes, if you have the Mountain Lion operating system installed on the Macs that you want to back up.
I don't know what the maximum number of hard drives might be, but I have tested with 4 and it works fine. Time Machine automatically rotates the backups when you do this, so drive #1 will be backed up first, then #2, #3, etc. and then back to #1, etc.

  • Can I use more than one flash-drive for ready-boost on Satellite L650/0ed

    Hi,
I have a toshiba Satellite L650/0ed, is it alright if i use more than one 8gb flash-drive for 'ready boost' - what is the maximum number of flash-drives use can dedicate to 'ready-boost'.
In addition, if i use a 16gb flash-drive, will this dedicate more memory to 'ready-boost'.
Why is the seagate 1tb 3.5 expansion drive not compatible for ready-boost.
    Thank you,

    Hi mate
Please check this Microsoft page which describes the ReadyBosst
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/readyboost
There you can find this statement:
+ReadyBoost works with most flash storage devices. In Windows 7, it can handle more flash memory and even multiple devices *up to eight* , for a maximum 256 gigabytes (GB) of additional memory.+
    Hopefully this can be helpful!

  • More than one external drive

    Hi folks,
I have a older model 1TB TC that has been running just fine for over three years now. When it was first set up, I connected three additional hard drives to it via the USB port on the back using a powered D-Link USB hub as an intermediary. With the old Airport utility, this was not a problem. I was able to set it up so all three drive's contained volumes were seen and mounted as shared volumes on my network's clients' OSs (mix of Wins and OS X).
However, as time has gone on, the attached drives have become full. I don't want to remove any of the existing drives as they contain various family members' media and destinations for Time Machine backups. What I would like to do is to add an additional 4TB Western Digital My Book drive to the collection.
Problem is, the new Airport utility only shows the TC's internal drive and one of the external drives on the drives tab! I can't tell if the TC sees the new drive or not. It does not appear in any of my network computer's shares, so I am leaning towards not.
So, how can I connect the new drive (formatted as OS X Extended Journalled/GUID) and be able to configure the connection in Airport utility so the contained volume will mount as a shared volume on my network's clients? That is, without downgrading the firmware on my TC to do it!!!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or assistance.

If these are full sized drives and you are trying to power both from the bus, then more than likely the second drive is not running. Try instead powering the Firewire drives from an external power source or connecting each to a separate Firewire port.
Time Machine will only backup to one backup drive, but can backup any number of attached drives.

  • How do I use more than one USB device with Airport Extreme?

I would like to plug a shared hard drive into my new airport extreme and still be able to plug in a shared printer as well. How am I supposed to do this with only one USB port. Do I use a USB hub???
Is it possible to connect a hard drive using one of the ethernet ports?

To use multiple USB devices you would use a powered USB hub.
You can connect a hard drive to one of the Ethernet ports providing the hard drive is a NAS and supports Ethernet connections. In that situation the NAS hard drive is just like any other Ethernet client and the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) does not handle the file sharing services. The drive itself would provide the file sharing services.

  • Can I use more than 1 backup drive with Time machine?

I wanted to run this proposed setup by this board, before I ordered HDs:
For my Mac which is located at the office:
I want to use 2 internal 500GB HDs.
Drive 1: System Disk & main File storage
Drive 2: Primary Time Machine Backup Volume. Backing up Daily.
I would also like to have an external HD, that I can keep at home, but bring into the office, say once a month to have an additional backup that I can take home with me in case of a catastrophic event such as if the office would burn down. Sort of a backup of the backup, just in case.
Can Time machine switch back and forth between 2 backup drives, or will I have to do manual backup to the external drive. It would be nice to have Time machine do it, since it will only be copying modified files.

I believe TM can do it. you'll have to go to system preferences and click on "change TM drive" every time you switch. However, I would recommend a different type of backup for your less frequent backups. use CCCloner or Superduper! to make a bootable clone of your system once a month. I'm not sure about CCCloner but superduper can do it by updating only the files that have been changed so it shouldn't take too long.

  • How to use more than one airport express with multiple speakers

I have 2 Airport Express. Prior to the multiple speaker enhansement I changed spekers by changing the wireless network. Each of the Airports is recognised as a wirelss network. Is there any way I can make my computer and itunes to see all of my Airports so I can use the Multiple Speaker function for both of my Airports at the same time withour having to change wireless network.

You need to have a single wireless network.
If you con't have a wireless router, then you will need to configure one of the Airport Express (AX) units to join the existing wireless network of the other AX.

  • Is it possible to use more than one external hard drive for Time Machine backups?

I want to use two hard drives for Time Machine backups.
Bigger one keep at home and be sure it is safe.
Second one (very small pocket size) keep with me for travels.
I want to backup to both drives to be sure I can restore everywhere and to be sure if something bad happened with my small travel disk I can restore from home backup.
Is there any problem with listed schema? Is it normal for Time Machine to handle backups for different drivers and keep everything consistent and smooth?

I really need some help!  I have been using an Iomega NAS 1TB HD for the past year.  And I received an error message.  I believe I have ran out of memory on this drive.
Then recently in the last couple of months I got a ReadyNAS Duo 2TB with 2TB RAID.  Should I switch my back ups to this one and delete the other back up file or keep the old back up image file on the Iomega?
Can I transfer the old image back up to this new ReadyNAS? How do I do this?
    I appreciate any help.

  • More than one backup drive??

Can I use more than one backup drive to back up my Mini's internal hard drive and six external hard drives?
My latest backup failed because the backup is too large for the backup disk. My back up disk is now a 1.5 TB external drive.
Rather than buying a single very high capacity external hard drive to replace the 1.5 TB drive as my back up disk, I would prefer to add a second drive and be able to distribute the back ups between two back up drives.
    Thanks,
    John Fermendzin

no, TM can only have one backup drive. you can RAID several drives in one volume or buy a bigger external or a RAID enclosure. another option is to use a different backup solution for part of your data. you can use a different backup drive with that. see this post by kappy for options

  • Can you use more than one scanner?

    Hi All,
Just got an Epson Artisan 810 All-In-One Printer-Fax-Copier-Scanner. It has wireless connection (or USB). I set it up on both our G4 12" PowerBooks for wireless Network connection. Seems to be working fine (so far) for me.
Here's the problem. My wife has another Epson Scanner on her desk that she wants to keep using. It's a USB connection. But now Epson Scan doesn't give her the option. She's on the phone with Epson right now but I spoke to the support person first and I'm not optimistic about a happy outcome.
My short question is: If you've set up a wireless all in one which includes a scanner, can you also use a usb-connected scanner. If so, how do you configure it? (I have a sinking feeling it's going to be one or the other--Network or USB--but not both, which would be a big drag, as hers is an excellent scanner but she doesn't have a good printer.)
But it seems there should be a Select Scanner option, just as there is a Select Printer option, and then the computer should just use whatever connection is available for that machine.
Please help--we've had the computer year from **** and I can't wait for it to be over.
    Cheers,
    GB

If I read your question right, yes.
My pad has two e mail addresses, and my phone has a phone number as well as a e mail address.  For each device you can add additional 'receive at' addresses in settings.
Note, when you add a new address, apple will send an e mail to that new address that you need to respond to, to show that it is a valid address.  So look in the inbox of that e mail account for the verification e mail.  Note further, some spam filters think that the verification e mail might be spam, so if it does not show up in your in box, look in any spam file you might have.
in my case, the verification e mail came within a few minutes of declaring the new address.
The multiple address are useful if you have more than one device under your apple id, and want to be able to send stuff to that particular device.

Can I use more than one iTunes account with my apple TV?

That depends what you mean. If you mean can you purchase from more than one iTunes account on the Apple TV, then the answer is no. If you mean can you stream from more than one iTunes library, which use different accounts, then the answer is yes, so long as they both use the same ID and password for homesharing.

  • Can I use more than one Apple ID on one device

I have seen some answers to this type of question before but not that since the ios 6 so will ask again. My household shares an Apple ID and it has worked great as we have added devices and purchased apps.  My problem now is this, we have hit a point where I have work things on my iPad and iPhone that I really don't need to be shared with the whole family but it isn't a major deal or security risk. I don't want to give up the advantages of having the household ID.  Is there an easy way to have another ID on my iPad and switch between them without having major complications?  I am for the most part a techie so not afraid of these kind of things but I can't afford to lose everything right now and take the time to set it all back up so getting advice here.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

You can use more than one apple id, but keep in mind that when apps need updating that you'll will need to sign in with correct credentials to update them.
Share an apple id for the itunes and app stores, but keep your own for icloud, facetime and messages.
