Using raw

Dear all
I searched the forum but did not found answer to this question that I would assume was asked several times before :
Using I photo 7.35 and having downloaded plenty pictures in both JPEG and RAW format, I realize now how much better Raw is, and for my best pictures, I want to start from the one saved on RAW.
First question, as in all the magazines I read, i see mention of softwares like aperture, etc but never I-photo. Can I use I-photo in order to edit my photo from their raw files ?
Secondly, and if so, what is the best way to do so ?
Last question, would you reckon that I should upgrade to I-photo 9 to make better use of my RAW files ?
Many thanks in advance and kind regards
Nicolas

Using I photo 7.35
Do you mean 7.1.5? There is no 7.35
Can I use I-photo in order to edit my photo from their raw files ?
Yes.
Secondly, and if so, what is the best way to do so ?
Import the Photo and edit it like you would any photo, really. But for specific details read the HElp.
Last question, would you reckon that I should upgrade to I-photo 9 to make better use of my RAW files ?
There is no difference in the RAW features of 09 versus 08.

  • 10g RAC - should I use RAW, OCFS and/or ASM ?

    I am about to install 10G RAC on RHAS3. Options for sharing disk partitions are raw, OCFS and ASM. The OCR and voting files must be raw or OCFS, I would tend to go for OCFS in this case. For the Oracle datafiles, again, I would tend to go for OCFS simply for ease of management since ASM seems to add another layer of complexity, and raw lacks flexibility. OCFS however is also new technology and may still have some stability issues. I'm not yet sure of our disk configuration, but there will be HBA cards in each machine with one or two SAN partitions, so I don't expect some of the ASM features such as mirroring etc. will be required as this will be done in the hardware. Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences(good or bad) in which way to go ?
    Philip

    We're using raw partitions for some years now, (since oracle 8i, then 9i and now 10g). It is quite flexible, but you shouldn't use physical partitions but LVM. It's very stable.
    Now on 10g we're using ASM on some sites where mirroring is needed. It works, but not so stable as raw. we discover some bugs as well.
    We've never used OCFS. I don't like it. To much limits. I belive that special utilities are needed for managing files. I don't like linux system software produced by oracle.

  • Error while reading raw file created in previous task using raw file destination

    I am reading a flat file and creating an raw file using raw file destination.  path of the raw file is in a variable.  now I am reading the raw file using the rawfile source component. I am able to execute if the .raw file is available.  But
    when we deploy into the production the .raw will be created runtime, so the package is getting failed while evualting the variable which hold the path of the variable.  since the .raw is not available i am not able to proceed further. it's in ssis 2008

    I am also using a raw file destination using a variable.
    I have set DelayValidation = true on both the DataFlow task and even the Sequence Container.
    I get the same error when I run the entire ssis package, however
    when I run the individual container or individual task it runs without an error.
    Also, something interesting is the error is not the same path as the variable name.

    The variable is "C:\Temp\ProjectName\RawFileName"
    I have other RawFile sources in this same project, but only this one file is giving me grief.
    Any other suggestions?  Is this a bug?
    Have you set an expression for connection string property of raw file? Is it based on variable/expression or configuration? If yes, check the value of variable/ expression or configuraton item at runtime by putting a breakpoint in the pre execute event of task
    and make sure path value its getting is correct. It may be that path is getting a different value at runtime due to expression/configuration set for it.

  • Using RAW images with CS6

    Hi - im not sure if there is another forum that answers this question.
    So far the only way I have been able to open up a RAW image in photoshop which then automatically launches camera RAW is by going to finder > iphoto > open package contents - to find the original file. Ive been told that can possible damage/corrupt yout image library. Is there another safe way to deal with RAW images? Right now iPhoto will open a raw image with photoshop the problem is it throws it over into PS and claims its a JPEG.
    Maybe im just not as educated as I need to be with the Apple software.
    Thanks in advance!
    J

    Set ACR as your preferred editor in iPhoto
    You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> Advanced -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor.
    Then check the box underneath 'Use Raw when using external editor'
    Now your Raw will be sent there.
    But getting it back is a bit of a kludge
    You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file.
    This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.

  • Using raw device

    Good morning,
    I would like to make some i/o test with a database version 10g, actually I have the redo log on standard zfs filesystem (cooked), I would like to
    migrate this redo log on raw device without recreating the database, is this possible ?
    Thanks for your help
    Fabrice Chapuis

    One more question, in case of node failure , redo on raw device are more critical for a recover than if they were on a filesystem ?More critical? Or more difficult?
    Redo is critical, period. Does not matter whether you use a cooked file system or a raw device.
    As for difficulty - that depends on what you are attempting to do. If you want to treat the raw device as a file system, that will be difficult as it it not a file system. (which kind of begs the question as to treat it like a file system when it is not?)
    From a RMAN perspective - a device is a device. RMAN does not care.
    From a DB perspective - that is why ASM exist. To remove the complexities of using raw devices, and eliminate the requirement of needing to use an external Volume Manager. And provide the DBA with a familiar SQL*Plus interface and SQL commands to administer ASM.
    It may seem difficult at first - but anything that needs a learning curve to go through, tends to seem difficult in the beginning. All you need to do is learn the basics and grasp the concepts.. and that +"difficulty"+ disappears.

  • Using RAW in Jave Bean to store data in Oracle 8i database

    I have a question about using RAW in java program to read write data in Oracle database. Is there any sample with key information for me to refer to? Your help will be appreciated.
    Jane Jane,
    here is a code snippet provided by our QA team
    hope it helps
    Kuassi
    1. Create the table:
    "CREATE TABLE rawtable (key VARCHAR2(30), rawcol RAW(2000), longrawcol
    LONG RAW, moredata VARCHAR2(100))"
    2. Write the data:
    byte x[] = {1,2,3,4,5};
    byte y[]= {6,7,8,9,10};
    PreparedStatement pstmtR =
    conn.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO rawtable (key, rawcol,
    longrawcol, moredata) VALUES (?, ?)");
    pstmtR.setString(1, "rawcol data");
    pstmtR.setBytes(2, x);
    pstmtR.setNull(3, Types.LONGVARBINARY);
    pstmtR.setString(4, "Here's some more data!");
    pstmtR.execute();
    pstmtR.setString(1, "longrawcol data");
    pstmtR.setNull(2, Types.BINARY);
    pstmtR.setBytes(3, y);
    pstmtR.setString(4, "Here's some more data!");
    pstmtR.execute();
    pstmtR.setRAW(1, RAW_obj) can be used to insert the RAW data.
    You can also use setBinaryStream to insert RAW data:
    CallableStatement cstmt =
    conn.prepareCall ("begin insert into rawtab values (?,?); end;");
    cstmt.setBinaryStream (1, (java.io.InputStream) new
    ByteArrayInputStream(rawbuf), rawbuf.length);
    cstmt.setBinaryStream (2, (java.io.InputStream) new
    ByteArrayInputStream(lrawbuf), lrawbuf.length);
    3. Read the data:
    InputStream is = null;
    byte rawbuf [];
    byte lrawbuf [];
    ResultSet rset = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT rawcol, longrawcol FROM
    rawtable");
    // You can retrieve the data with the following methods
    rawbuf = rset.getBytes(1);
    lrawbuf = rset.getBytes(2);
    RAW raw1 = rset.getRAW(1);
    is = rset.getBinaryStream(column);
    is = rset.getAsciiStream(column);
    is = rset.getUnicodeStream(column);
    When using CallableStatement:
    ((OracleCallableStatement)cstmt).registerOutParameter(1,
    OracleTypes.RAW);

  • "Use RAW files with external editor" greyed out for Photoshop CS2?

    I've just upgraded from iPhoto 5, and the "Use RAW files with external editor" option in the advanced preferences is greyed out when I select Photoshop CS2 as my external editor (back in the General pane).
    It works fine when Preview.app is selected. I can understand that pre-CS2 Photoshop wouldn't be available, but CS2 is capable of editing RAW images.
    Has anyone been able to get iPhoto 6 to send a RAW image to Photoshop CS2 using this preference? I've written an Applescript to do it in iPhoto 5, but I'd rather use something cleaner...
    15" PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Works great with Photoshop Elements, opens with Camera Raw. The issue is you can't save it so that iPhoto gets the changes.
    You have to save it and then re-import. I tried all permutations of saving it in originals and modified folders in the library. No luck. The only thing I didn't try is to save it as a jpeg over the top of the full sized one iPhoto created on import.

  • Poor stitching using RAW in photomerge

    Hi all,
    I shoot with an a900 and would like to stitch the ARW RAW files it produces.
    Unfortunately the results are pretty awful. No matter how I import the shots (through bridge, LR or PS4 itself) or the type of RAW (DNG or ARW, even TIFFs) the wizard will align but not stitch the photos together. Plenty of examples can be found in this flickr set:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/35398335@N00/sets/72157613267634565/
    Selecting layers -> merge layers also has no effect - it simply flattens the layers without merging them.
    However, I have no problems whatsoever if I first convert to JPG and then stitch. Here's an example of that:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/35398335@N00/3252828606/in/set-72157613267634565/
    Converting to JPGs isn't a satisfactory solution because I lose so much headroom in PP after the stitch.
    Does anyone have any ideas how I can make PS4 produce good stitches when using RAWs?
    All ideas much appreciated.

    Chris,
    I've sent you a link to the 3 RAWs that I managed to stitch correctly as JPGs but incorrectly as RAWs by the email in your profile. They're uploading as I type this - please give me a shout if you don't get it within a few mins.
    To the other participants - thanks very much for your suggestions as to exposures etc. I am ONLY having difficulty stitching RAW files. JPG files created from the RAWs with no changes stitch just fine, as can be seen in the example linked to in the first post.
    I am unable to work out why PS4 works just fine with JPGs, but refuses to merge files in RAW.
    I have tried flattening the document, again it flattens with the seams still visisble.

  • Is ServerSession Cache invalidated when we use raw SQL thru a UnitOfWork()

    Is ServerSession Cache invalidated (for the relevant objects that are mapped to any of the tables used in raw sql) when we use raw update/insert/delete SQL thru executeQuery() on UnitofWork acquired from a clientSession ?
    Or we need to do this ourselves by some procedure ?
    If there is any documentation about this, could you please refer me towards it.
    Thanks,
    Krishna

    Sorry, don't know how that question was missed.
    If you update data with SQL or stored procedures, then it's as if another application has updated the database and you must have a solid locking and refreshing policy in place. TopLink updates the cache after a UOW commit based on how you've manipulated the business model, not any adhoc updating SQL.

  • How do i use raw files on photoshop elements 11

    i cant work out how to use raw files on pse11

    Select a raw thumbnail in Organizer and click the Editor button on the bottom toolbar or go to a folder on your hard drive and right-click on a raw file and choose open in Adobe Photoshop Elements 11.
    A raw file opens automatically in the camera raw dialog so you can use the sliders, e.g. white balance, contrast etc. Try pushing the highlights slider to the left and the shadows slider to the right to open up the tonal range of your raw image. You can also use those not available in the regular editor such as clarity and vibrance. Vibrance is a more subtle form of saturation. It’s good for boosting landscape images and pops the green and blue tones more than other colors.
    In addition to the settings under the basic tab you have a detail tab (triangle symbol) and a calibration tab (camera symbol) where you can make further tweaks. The detail tab has tools for sharpening and noise reduction. The calibration tab has drop down presets for camera styles which you can experiment with but I always leave it set to Adobe Standard. For best results the Process should be 2012. Earlier process versions will give some different sliders in the basic tab such as fill light and recovery, but they are not as effective as the latest controls.
    When you have finished your raw editing you can send the image into the regular editor. Ensure the dropdown menu for depth (at the bottom of the dialog) is set to 8 Bit/Channel as 16 bit editing in elements is very restricted. Then click the Open Image button (bottom right) and when your image opens in Expert Mode you can use the tools pallet to make any further adjustments you want. To create a jpeg use File >> Save As and choose jpeg from the file formats pull down list. There is nothing to save in a raw file. PSE remembers your slider settings next time you open the file.

  • I am using Photoshop CS5 extended and I have tried to get an update to be able to use raw with my D600 and it won't give me any options. Any recommendations othere than to go to PSCC and LRCC?

    Is there a way to update PS CS5 extended to allow me to use raw with my D600. It works with my D300 and D90 raw but not with my D600.

    CS5 Adobe Camera Raw stopped at 6.7 and the D600 support was introduced in 7.2 for CS6.
    You are eligible to upgrade to Photoshop CS6 for $200 Standard or $400 Extended if you do not want the Cloud.

  • How to use RAW partition for Oracle for placing data?

    Dear all,
    I have installed Oracle on a SUN machine and use database mount point /oracle which is a UFS system.
    But now I would like to use RAW partition instead of a UFS system to place Oracle database data...
    The installation guide mentions that database mount points have to be prepared before installation, could I just use /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s5 as database mount points after partitioning c0t0d0s5?
    I am attempting to create a tablespace in the above partition... Could any experts tell me if the above works?
    Thanks a lot!

    kwan,
    Raw partion is used to store Oracle data files and not Oracle software. Oracle home is going be in regular file system. More than one file can not share the same raw device.
    You create the raw device at the OS level using the OS command. Then create tablespace on Oracle and use the clause DATAFILE 'Raw file Name'
    Hope this helps

    Where were you downloading the to,   iPhoto, a folder on the Desktop, where? Are they still on the camera's memory card?  If you deleted them from the card and haven't used the card since they can be recovered with recovery software like  MediaRECOVER. You can download the demo version to verify they can be recovered before purchasing it.  Other similar apps can be found at MacUpdate.com by searching for "photo recovery" or similar terms.

  • Create tablespace using RAW device

    Hi,
    When you create the tablespace using RAW device, you no need to specify the size parameter in the sql. It works in Solaris but not in Linux.
    I dont know why, can anyone experience this issue before? please let me know
    Thanks
    Veera

    My advice for you would be to always include SIZE parameter when you create tablespace, redo log file on raw device.
