Using SQL in a validation script

Hi Experts!
Can you give me an example code part of using a SQL select query in a validation script?
My aim is to query an extension table with a parameterized select and extract a single field value,
which can be used for further processing.
Regards,
Zolchee

import com.frictionless.api.common.platform.IapiDbHandleIfc;
dbHandle = session.getDbHandle();
dbHandle.beginTransaction();
sQuery = "SELECT DOC_DESCRIPTION " +
     "FROM " +
     "FCI_CUSTOM_MD2 " +
     "WHERE " +
     "EID = '" + sParameter + "'";
dbHandle.executeQuery(sQuery);
This is an example how the query should look like, but can you please tell me how to use the results of the query?
Are the results stored in a ResultSet? How to extract them? The above query should return only one item - how to get that?

  • Using SQL Loader script in a Stored Procedure

    Can I use SQL Loader script in a stored procedure and then execute it from a front-end appl.? The reason for this seemingly convoluted solution is that the users don't want a batch load though the records volume is quite high (around 1 mil). Other loads using ODBC connection or OLE DB seem to be inferior to SQL Loader.

    I would suggest a couple of solutions:
    1. Have a cgi script that can upload the file to the server from a web ui, then have the cgi script call the sql*loader file, and it will insert into the database.
    2. You can try to use External tables. This is avaliable in 9i and onwards. You will be able to make any sql DML on the external table.
    I would normally use sql*loader, move the data to a staging table with nologging, and paralle loading. After it has been loaded into the staging table I would process it into my main tables. Have used this approach with up to 60 million records in one load.
    You can do calls to C procedures, Pro*C procedures through PLSQL, as well as java calls, or use Java stored procedures.
    My experience is that SQL*Loader is the fastest way to load data into the database.

  • Question about creating new tables using SQL script in WebLogic Server

    Hi,
    I am new to WebLogic and I am following a book Java EE Development with Eclipse published by PACKT Publishing to learn
    Java EE.  I have installed Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse on the PC and I am able to log into the WebLogic Server Administration Console
    and set up a Data Source.  However the next step is to create tables for the database.  The book says that the tables can be created using
    SQL script run from the SQL command line.
    I cannot see any way of inputting SQL script into the WebLogic Server Admistration Console.  Aslo there is no SQL Command line in DOS.
    Thanks  for your help.
    Brian.

    Sounds like you are to run the scripts provided by a tutorial to create the tables, right?  In that case, you may need to install an Oracle client to connect to your database.  The client is automatically installed with the database, so if you have access to the server that hosts the database, you should be able to run SQLplus from there.
    As far as I know, there is no way to run a script from the Admin Console.  I could be wrong, however.

  • Write to ERP Tables on HANA DB using SQL script

    Hello All,
    We are using HANA as our primary database for ABAP system and trying to feed the data to ABAP tables using SQL script and experiencing authorization errors . Please see below for more details.
    Scenario.
    I am getting no authorised error when i try to write some data to Z* tables using SQL script in HANA studio.But I am able to create new tables in the same schema.
    As shown above Query1: SAPSR1 is the schema which contains underline ABAP tables. ZGSA is existing table and now i am trying to insert new rows into it.
    Query 2&3: Creating new tables in SAPSR1 works fine.
    Can you please suggest me whether it is right approach or i need to have RFC to update these table from some other tool/app?.
    Thanks in advance,
    Naresh

    Hi Naresh,
    Obi Wan would now probably say: "this is not the functionality you're looking for".
    Even though you are working with Z-tables you really don't want to start messing with those from outside the context of the NetWeaver system.
    Instead you want to keep the control over all tables in the NetWeaver schema completely  to the SAP<sid> user and NetWeaver.
    For your data loading scenario, just write a simple ABAP report with native sql or an AMDP to do the copying of the data for you.
    Don't spread your code across the landscape and don't loosen access restrictions on your schema.

  • Modify contributor content using validation script

    Hi all,
    I'd like to modify contributors content in a particular wysiwyg element using the external validation script. I've added a simple function to the default validation script included with SS 10gR4. Right now the part I don't get is - how to return the modified content back to the page?
    Here's what I've got so far as a simple test, but it doesn't replace the original content.
    function fnModiifyWysiwyg(oContent)
         var strTextContent = fnSSGetTextContent(oContent);
         strTextContent = "<b>this is a test</b>";
         oContent = strTextContent;
         return oContent;
    }

    I am trying to get at the HTML of contributed content to make sure it does not exceed 255 chars. I can't seem to figure out how to validate anything but the text part of the contributed content.
    function fnSSGetTextContent(oContent)
         var strContent = '';
         if (typeof oContent == 'string')
              strContent = oContent;
         else if (typeof oContent.innerText == 'string')
              strContent = oContent.innerText;
         else if (typeof oContent.textContent == 'string')
              strContent = oContent.textContent;
         return strContent;
    function testval(oContent) {
         var strTextContent = fnSSGetTextContent(oContent);
         if (strTextContent.length > 255) {
              alert("test");
         else {
              return true;
    If I have content that, in design view, looks like
    test
    and in source mode looks like
    test
    The validation does not trigger (it should). If I put more than 255 chars in design mode, the validate fires and I get my alert.

  • Setting or Resetting a password using SQL in Business One 9.0

    In the link shown below, we started a discussion on how to set a password using SQL in Business One. (I am re-opening the discussion in a new thread.)
    http://scn.sap.com/thread/3430860
    I have been using a similar query to do the same. In the query below, I set the MANAGER password to some value and copy it to all other active users.
    update OUSR
    set PASSWORD = (select PASSWORD from OUSR where USERID = 1)
    where USERID > 1 and GROUPS <> 99 and USER_CODE not like 'B1i%'
    This process works just fine in pre-9.0 p09 versions. However, there is something in the new release(s) that is different and being validated so this method no longer works. (I have checked AUSR as the initial control, but this is not the case.)
    When using the query above in the current release, logging into users account will generate "Enter valid user name and password". Changing the password manually works just fine. This tells me that there is an additional location where the password is being updated/stored which needs to be included within the script. I am guessing that this location is also where the single-sign-on information might be held, but I am unable to find anything.
    I realize that this is not supported. However, when creating a "SANDBOX" database and needing to change 150 users passwords, it is unreasonable that we change these by hand, one-by-one. (And I realize that we should not change those which are using DOMAIN passwords.)
    Anyone have any ideas about what else needs to be updated to make this work?
    Thanks,
    ~ terry.

    Gordon,
    That's part of the challenge!...
    I would like the SANDBOX database to be useable by anyone wanting to log in, test, and learn.
    But, I do not want it to have the same password as the LIVE database. That way we can better secure the LIVE database and the users will have to type in a different password to access the SANDBOX, eliminating the possibility someone processes live data in a test database.... or visa-versa.
    Best practices tell me that we need to do our training and testing in a SANDBOX. Occasionally, we need to copy the LIVE database to a SANDBOX to have current data for this functionality. And I am trying to avoid spending 30-60 minutes manually changing over 100 user passwords.
    Thanks,
    ~ terry.

  • Create Autonumber GUID using SQL Statment

    Hi Everyone,
    I have an Access 2013 database. In it, I use SQL statements heavily in VBA to process transactions, modify system date, process updates etc. I am at a point where I would like to create a table with an SQL Statement. Sounds easy. Do it all the time. But
    I want the ID field and PK to be an AutoNumber ReplicationID (or GUID).
    It's easy enough to create an AutoNumber using the AUTOINCREMENT datatype in SQL and it's easy enough to create a ReplicationID field using the GUID data type. BUT ... I can't create an AutoNumber Replication ID field.
    I have a function called GetGUID(). There are examples that I have found where using a simple function like that as the default value for the field should work but access keeps telling me that the function is not found or not valid.
    The SQL statement that creates an AutoNumber (Long) looks like this:
    CREATE TABLE myTable
    ID AUTOINCREMENT PRIMARY KEY UNIQUE,
    Field1 VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL,
    Field2 GUID NOT NULL,
    SomeDate DATE,
    SomeTime TIME,
    Field3 VARCHAR(255),
    If anyone can help make this script create an AutoNumber GUID, I would appreciate it.
    P.S. I can create this using DAO Table Defs, but that doesn't fit with the DQL Statement based update process that I need it to.
    Cheers
    Stephen, RedGalaxy Darwin, Australia

    You cannot use your own function GetGUID() in the default property of a field in a table. Only built-in functions are allowed, and GenGUID() is the built-in Access function to generate GUIDs.
    The reason why you are gettting the #Error is explained in
    Alex Dybenko's Access Blog
    Unfortunately, it is not possible to modify the Attributes property after the table has been created. But normally, such a GUID field is hidden from the user. If it doesn't bother you, just leave it as is. Otherwise, you will have to create an exact copy
    of the table using DAO (and possibly ADOX) methods.

  • Retreving Hexadecimal Values from a table using SQL query.

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a query to retreive Hexadecimal values contained in a column using SQL query.
    The column contains the values of all types, alphanumeric, numeric and hexadecimal.
    I need to retreive only hexadecimal values.
    any help to me in this regard will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Presumably, you can be sure that any valid hex value is indeed MEANT to BE a hex value. For example the value 'ACE' is meant to be a hexadecimal value and not the word.

  • Using sql in the filter expression

    For a project I need to use a filter which is a construction
    with BETWEEN dateFrom AND dateTo.
    But the user does not choose these datevalues,
    he chooses timePeriods which have a unique startDate.
    The dashboard prompts are populated with these timePeriods and the user chooses 2 of these and 2
    presentation variables are set.
    Now I need to retrieve the according startDate for a chosen timePeriod.
    I tried to do this using a sub-query in the filter expression,
    but this seems not to be valid in Answers.
    In standard SQL it is expressed like this:
    select table1.* from table1
    where table1.dateValue  BETWEEN
    +(select table2.startDate from table2 where table2.timePeriod = 'theChosenValue1')+
    AND
    +(select table2.startDate from table2 where table2.timePeriod = 'theChosenValue2')+
    The return of the subqueries are single row, as it should in such constructions.
    I want the where clause to be in the filter expression for the dateValue column in Answers.(trimming of the WHERE keyword)
    Is there any other construction that does this trick in the BI Answers/Dashboard environment to do this?
    Kind regards

    Hi Micek,
    Thanks for your quick reaction.
    Yes you are right the ChosenValues will be replaced by presentation-variables in the final dashboard,
    I just am testing it with constant values in the Answers module.
    The problem seems to be that it is not allowed to use a sub-query in the filter expression.
    The Answers web application says there is a syntax problem near <select>, while I expect the SQL to be valid.
    I guess not all regular SQL is allowed in filter expressions.
    And since the report does not try to fetch data, no log of a generated, real SQL is written to the logfile.
    I need some alternative for the subquery, but one that is allowed in the filter expression.
    The problem is based on the fact that the user chooses a different value then the one that is filtered on.
    The timePeriods represent just one startDate, but I cannot use timePeriod itself to filter on.
    Because I need a between value, wich does not make sense for a timePeriod element
    such as '01-08' or 'JAN-08'.
    Several timePeriod notations are used, so using SubString and || to calculate a numeric value from the timePeriod varchar2 is not a good option.
    The error says:
    Error getting drill information: SELECT "....
    State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 27002] Near <SELECT>: Syntax error [nQSError: 26012] . (HY000)
    Any input is welcome
    kind regards

  • Got an error while creating bind variables using sql database.

    iam going to use sql database for ADF-BC .
    i created the bind variable and apply the bind position for the corresponding variable in the view object editor.when i click test it shows me "query is valid". when i tried to run that it gives me two errors.
    1) sql error during statement preparation.(ie) select empid ,empname......from the emptable where empid like :'emp' and
    2) [Microsoft][SQl server  2000 driver  for jDBC] invalid parameter bindings
    i need help to know the solution for this...(or) is there any other way to create bind variable ......

    The 3 binding styles supported by JDev:
    Oracle Named - ie. SELECT xxxx FROM xxxx WHERE emp_id = :vEmp (note colon and variable name)
    Oracle Positional - ie SELECT xxxx FROM xxxx WHERE emp_id = :1 (note colon)
    JDBC Positional - ie SELECT xxxx FROM xxxx WHERE emp_id = ?
    Literally this query is sent to the database to execute, then the bind variables values are applied as a separate database operation. If SQL Server doesn't suport any of these binding styles, it's not going to work. As Chris Noonan suggests, try the JDBC Positional style though as you're using a JDBC driver to connect to SQL Server and it should support that style (the others are Oracle styles), and make sure you've switched the binding style on the VO query page to "JDBC Positional" too.
    You must also on the VO bind variable page define your bind variables.
    Also read the 10.1.3 JDev guide on ADF Business Components and View Object bind variables.
