Using system cache with AIR...

Hi,
I have been monitoring calls to download media from an AIR iOS app via Charles sniffer. What I am seeing is repeated downloads of the identical files, each and every time they are requested. Obviously, with large data lists, this represents a huge amount of data that shouldn't need to be redownloaded a second time. In this case, I have checked that the cache headers are "no-cache", so I will take that up with the server developers, but I am curious: do image downloads via AIR cache downloaded data using the system's browser cache or is it separate somehow?

You can cache read-only PL/SQL stored procedures in the DB Cache. I'm not sure about db built-in packages, but if they are read-only, should be ok.
All DB Cache management functionality is available from DBA Studio. You can also use the supplied dbms_icache PL/SQL package to manage the cache. Refer to the DB Cache Concepts & Admin Guide for details.
DB Cache is strictly a cache for read-only queries. All updates are passed to the origin db.

I have implemented the Jass tutorial JassAcn.java and it works fine when username and password are entered.
However,when I try to use the ticket from the native cache I get the following error :
     Ticket could not be renewed : Message stream modified (41)
and then get prompted to enter the username followed by the password. If I enter the user name
and password the authentication is successfull.
I am using a Windows XP SP2 client and JDK 1.5 and a Win2000 server.
The registry key "allowtgtsessionkey" on the client has been set to 0x01 as recommended by
C:\jdk15help\docs\guide\security\jgss\tutorials\Troubleshooting.html
The "Message stream modified" error seems to imply that
checksum used to verify the data packet didn't match what was expected or some packets are being corrupted.
I tried different default_checksum but to no avail.
Has anyone encountered this before?

Using Parallelism, Cache with Oracle Applications Core Tables

Hi all,
I want to know if i can put some tables in parallel and some tables in cache in an Oracle Applications enviroment without any problem. The precedure to change these tables are equal to a single database? Just use command like "ALTER TABLE table_name PARALLEL......"
Do i need to change anything at Applications Level after these changes that i will made on these tables?

Using lossless codec with air tunes / airport express

i recently installed an airport express so that i can listen to my itunes library on my stereo. i have connected the airport to my stereo using a toslink cable. most of my library is encoded at 192kbs or 128 kbs aac files. i was hoping that if i encoded music using the lossless codec that i would be able to match the sound i get from my cd player through the stereo. my early tests have not worked well. if i compare a song in my itues encoded at 128, 192, 256 and lossless they all sound basically the same when played through my stereo using airport express. none of them sound as good as the same song played through my stereo from the cd player. the cd player is hooked up via a digital coax and both the cd player and the airport express are programmed identically in the stereo (using the stereo uplink sample). my asumption was that since both sources are digital (assuming that itunes to express to toslink remains digital) and that from what i have read the lossless codec is indistinguishable from a cd in playback that the two would sound the same. however the cd sounds much louder and fuller.has anyone had a sucessfull experience where the airport express has matched a cd in playback quality? any thoughts / suggestion? thanks.

hi james. my understanding is that i am feeding a digital signal from itunes to ax to my stereo and that because i am using a toslink optical connection from the ax to my stereo the signal remains digital until the stereo's internal dac converts it. this is essentially the same process that is happening with the cd player. the digital coax feeds a digital signal to the stereo where the stereo's internal dac converts the signal. so the question becomes why with a lossless codec would there be any difference in sound quality if the digital signal is being processed exactly the same way in the stereo? my only answer is that i am not receiving a pure digital feed from the itunes to ax to stereo path. somewhere it is being stepped on. any thoughts?

Use system console with editable default value

Hi,
Is it possible in java (or maybe groovy) to ask user for input in console with default value passed? User should be able to edit the default value or commit it by pressing enter key.
Sample:
<CONSOLE> Enter type: TYPE1<cursor>
if user hits enter key the TYPE1 is passed to application, when user hits backspace the TYPE1 is edited. Any ideas?

I suspect that generally users will not be editing the default, so although you can't do it, it isn't much of a loss.

You are in Windows; you already have inserted your OS X DVD and run SETUP and installled Boot Camp 3.0.x (shows in Windows control panel: Programs and Features.
Start => Apple Software Update (also in Windows) will download and install updates as well.

Memory system cache on windows server 2003 standard 64-bit is too hign

I have an issue with one of the server - OS is windows 2003 standard 64 bit. Total memory installed on the server is 16GB. When I go to task manager>performance tab, Total physical memory is 16 GB, available memory is around 500 MB almost all the time,
System cache is greater than 13.5GB. When I take a look at all the processes that are running, and if I sum those memory usage it will be around 2 GB. So all the memory is consumed by system cache. Checked the perfmon > memory> system cache resident
bytes and it is showing greater than 13.5 GB. I have gone through some articles that tells me to use RAMMAP to find which is using more system cache. But RAMMAP is not designed to run with windows 2003 version. Please can you help with a way/tool to find what

It is supposed to do this. Windows can be very aggressive in caching data and code. This data is released as soon as the system needs memory for something else, but when it is unused, the system uses it to cache all sorts of stuff. It utilizes the memory
which would otherwise be unused. Leaving it unused would basically be a waste.
So in other words, nothing is wrong. It is windows which decides to try and be more efficient. As soon as a request for more memory comes in, it just drops whatever is needed from the cache immediately.
This is one of the reasons that in later versions, the memory is reported differently in task manager, because people kept trying to stop the system from caching because they wanted to see more 'free' memory.

I want to use photoshop elements with air display from avatron. Its necessary use pressure sensitive.

Photoshop Elements only specifically works with touchscreens when it comes to gestures (moving your finger(s) in a specific motion to get a special behavior). Otherwise, the touch screen should act exactly like a mouse. My guess here is that this is simply a question of precision. If you try to "click" and drag a corner of the crop interface, does the crop rectangle move or rotate instead of change size?

AirPort Express with Air Tunes and wired router

Do any of you using AirPort Express with Air Tunes as a base station have it connected to a wired router, just as an added precaution?

As far as I know, AirPort Express w/tunes has a firewall, but a given router may offer more protection options than just a firewall. I'm wondering about security on the wired side of the connection, not the wireless side.

System.callSystem with xcopy

I'm trying to copy a directory from one location to another using system.callSystem with the command xcopy. I've tested the string that I'm using as the parameter directly in the command prompt and it works, so I know that I'm feeding the function correctly. However, when I run it, nothing happens. Any ideas what could be going wrong? Is there something I'm missing?
here's the call:
system.callSystem('xcopy "' + sourceDir + '\\*.*" /e "' + targetDir + '"');
that string I'm feeding it is the equivalent of
xcopy "\\SOURCE_NETWORK\SOURCE_DIRECTORY\*.*" /e "\\TARGET_NETWORK\TARGET_DIRECTORY"

I test you code in AE CC 2014 ,and failed too. Maybe scripts do not have Direct permission to xcopy.Try the following method.

system.callSystem("cmd.exe /c \""+callStr+"\"");
It works fine now.So system.callSystem() does not equal to cmd.exe actually. You should call the cmd.exe in this method.
However, at least we can directly use "explorer" to approach the same goal.Just save the command string as a *cmd file.After running the temp file by call "explorer",remove it.

The difference of the two methods exists.The first method does show the String you called in cmd interface,while the second method not.
By the way,it seems that Relative Path does not work with xcopy,so make sure you convert the souceDir and targetDir to Absolute Path.

Is it possible to delete operating or browser cache with an Air App

Reason being - I have an html/Ajax Air app that after update I have had issues with users getting odd behaviours with my app until they clear their browser cache. I know there is a difference between OS & Browser cache, eg it looks as tho both IE & Safari use OS caching where Firefox uses itself/the browser to store cache & cookies etc.
As Air as free rain to the OS, how would I go about clearing the cache programatically through Air. I haven't been able to find any references to this & know it's a security issue when it comes to Javascript doing this to a browser & not possible. Tho I believe with the access Air has to the operating system, this should be able to be done.

AIR has a property called useCache. This tells it to use the cache or not while using AIR's built-in embedded browser. http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/langref/flash/html/HTMLLoader.html#useCache
AIR has no APIs that let you clear the OS's browser cache. But you do have FileSystem APIs so if the cache can be cleared by deleting particular files, you'd be able to do it.
But if it involves any other settings (like a registry, or a custom way of parsing an index file), then you might run into trouble doing it.

System Cache Issues with Windows Server 2008R2

I'm trying to deploy Java version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_14-b03) on a new Windows Server 2008R2 installation. I want to use the system cache feature and have used it successfully on Windows XP workstations and Windows 2003 servers in the past. I even got it to work on a test Win Server 2008R2 server earlier this week. But on my production machine I can't get the system cache to configure.
I installed Java as usual and it installed into the Program Files(x86) directory. I copied my deployment files to the c:\windows\sun\java\deployment directory.
Deployment.config contains:
deployment.system.config=file\:/c\:/windows/sun/java/deployment/deployment.properties
Deployment.properties contains:
deployment.user.cachedir=C\:\\Program Files\\HCN
deployment.user.cachedir.locked
deployment.system.cachedir=C\:\\Program Files\\HCN
deployment.javaws.shortcut="NEVER"
deployment.javaws.autodownload="NEVER"
Not sure what's missing here especially since it worked fine the other day.
Both of these servers are virtual, VMware ESX 3.5 and were created from the same template. Only real difference is the production system will be a XenApp application server so it has XenApp installed.
Error I'm getting is that in Javaws it reports that the system cache is not configured and every time I launch my application it has to download from the source because we are deleting the local profiles when the user logs out.
Any suggestions?

No.
You could even use HP-UX on the DEV system - as long as you're able to share a common directory to ensure transporting it's not a problem. Transports are OS and DB independent.
However, memory management and security in Windows 2008 changed significantly, you may have to use different configurations for W2K8 vs. W2K3.

Veranda Magazine is a free app available for iOS devices in the iOS App Store. You then purchase a Veranda Magazine subscription from within the app. In other words, the app itself is free, but the contents are not.
There is no way to duplicate or import this to a Mac. Your Mac runs a totally different operating system.
iBooks can now import to Mac since OS X Mavericks came out about a month ago. But that does not apply to magazines or iOS Newsstand publications.
