Using the SD card on Sierra Mobile hotspot - can it be done?

Time Warner in LA offers a personal hotspot, it's the Sierra iG2.  I just got it last week.  As far as mobile internet, it's a fantastic device and a great deal ($10 mo for 2 gigs - my t-mobile phone plan is $30 for 30 MGS and I can't use it with my iPad) and I got it just for that reason.
But I discovered when I received it that it has a slot for a micro SD card, which I added.
If I am using the hotspot with a computer, then I "Go to network server" from the finder, simple enough.
But is there ANY way to access it via iPad?  What I would like to use it for is to carry extra movies and books when I'm away on long trips, not for general storage back and forth. But I can't find any way to do it.  I thought I might at least be able to access it via PDF expert, since that app has built in network support, but it doesn't look like it. (I haven't thoroughly tested it).  Is there any app that would create that functionality?

You might check out the FileBrowser app on iTunes. I haven't used it, but it sounds like what you're after. When you say you can't use the Sierra iG2 with your iPad, I'm assuming you mean you can't plug it into the iPad. If it's plugged into a laptop and offering a WiFi hotspot, the iPad should be good with that. I use the Apple Camera Connection Kit to carry extra movies on an SD card. It uploads only to the Photos app, so no books, etc.
