Using USB Device through Parallels Desktop / CIT200 Skype Phone

Hi. I have the Linksys CIT200 cordless phone that I use with Skype. I am a recent convert from PC and this is my first mac. I have Parallels desktop installed and everything in that seems to work fine.
When I plugin the CIT200 base station, it does not give me the popup that says "Would you like to use this device in Windows XP....." Also, in System Profiler, I do not see the CIT200 device even recognized. It is getting power because it powers up...
How can I get my mac to recognize this USB device, and then give Windows control of it through Parallels?

No, not at all.
The application works just fine. I mean a wireless handset (basically, a telephone that connects to the computer via a USB docking station. Much like the one I linked to in the original post, although hopefully one that actually works with the OS 10.6.
Without the "skype phone" you have to physically sit down at your computer to make a skype call. With the handset, you can walk around the house while on a skype call. You can also both initiate and receive calls from the handset while not physically at your computer (so long as the skype application is running and you are within range, usually 100-300 feet).

  • I want to use my grey Mac G4 desktop to Skype. How and where do I connect a microphone

I want to use my grey Mac G4 desktop to Skype. How and where do I connect a microphone. Is it possible?

G4 Macs have no built video/webcams or microphones.
The best solutions are USB devices.
First, you need to determine the version of Skype that you can use. The newest Skype version 5 can only run on Macs with a min. OS X version of OS 10.5.8 Leopard.
Tthe older version of Skype that can run in your Mac is Skype 2.8 found here.
    http://www.skype.com/intl/en/get-skype/on-your-computer/macosx/2-8/
There are not a lot of webcams or microphones that work with both Macs and Skype.
Here is the only webcam, from Logitech, that I was using on my previous G4 that was both PC and Mac compatible, but the requirements say you need 1.0 Ghz CPU and OS X 10.5.8 Leopard.
    http://www.logitech.com/en-us/webcam-communications/webcams/hd-webcam-c615
Logitech also has a few Mac compatible USB headset audio/microphones, but don't mention Skype compatibilty.
You would need to buy and try to test.
Plantronics makes only one or two models that will work with Macs and general Internet Telephony and include Skype, also.
    Here is one here.

using office outlook under parallel desktop double click on an Excel attachement does not open the document in Excel.
double-click opens Excel Office 2011 for mac without the document.
It should open the document in Excel 2010 for Windows.

In Parralells, choose the file you want to open.
Right Click on it and choose Properties.
In the General Tab you will see "Opens with:"
Click the "Change ... " button.
Then choose Excel 2010. The checkbox below should be set to "Always use ... "

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's normal. You have to set up Finder to show external drives on Desktop.
To do this, open a Finder window, go to Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > General, and mark "External disks"

  • Windows XP Professional using AirPort in MacBook through Parallels Desktop

I'm trying to convince my wife to buy her first Mac computer, but she needs to use one particular Windows application (health-related hospital work) that exchanges data over the internet, so the apparent solution would be to also buy Parallels Desktop. My question is: Will Windows XP Professional running in Parallels Desktop be able to access the internet through a wireless network by using the AirPort card in a MacBook? Please answer to: [email protected] (thanks).

I will answer here, as it helps everyone.
I can say that parallels works great wirelessly.
My wife is going back for her Masters, and one of her classes had a windows only app.
loaded in parallels, and all worked great.
I would recommend installing 2 gigs of ram though. (running both OS's + apps does need the additional memory.
(ps - I am using a Linksys router)

  • Why I cannot get response from my USB device through VISA raw using VISAWrite.vi and VISARead.vi?

I am sure VISA has been assigned as the driver for my USB device (ADC USB FIFO Evaluation Kit). I tried to simply use VISAWrite.vi to send out a word to USB device and want to read the digitalized data from it using VISARead.vi. However, though it seems there are data points flowing, they are all 0-valued coming out from VISARead.vi (I keep reading for N times). Could you comment on my wiring and help me out? I am familiar with LabVIEW but not the real-time and driver things. Many thanks!

Have you been able to confirm that the ADC is connected to a voltage source. What are you expecting to return? I would suggest connecting something like a good 9V battery to the input and reference. Also make sure the reference is either internally connected to ground or you might want to connect a resistor (100kOhm) between the reference and ground.
You might want to try to see what raw data is being returned from the device. Try something like USB Monitor (http://www.hhdsoftware.com/usbmon.html) to see what information is being transmitted between the computer and the instrument.
Did you write the firmware for the device or do you know if the device is suppose to be returning the data from a bulk, interrupt, or control transfer. Also, what is it that
    you are trying to create.

  • Using Firewire devices results in desktop stuttering

Firewire traffic is causing desktop performance to decline. On my Mac Mini (late 2009, 4 GB RAM) even slow amounts of firewire traffic is causing bad spaces performance (stuttering while moving from space to space) and jerky window movement. I have tested this with several cables and 2 different firewire devices. Device 1, a Canon HDV camcorder, is bringing the window movement to stutter when imovie is detecting the connection and showing the import screen (no transfer initiated, not even playback). Device 2, a Western Digital My Book Studio with FW800 ports, is making the desktop jerky even if it is only playing a mp3 file.
    Notes:
Spotlight was disabled on the mentioned fw800 hdd. Disk activity monitor shows normal operation, very low cpu workload. The system log also does not show any suspicious messages.
USB devices like harddisks do not trigger this behaviour. The mentioned fw800 disk also has an USB port. Connecting the device using USB does not slow down desktop performance, even when transfering large files.

Thanks for you suggestions. I tried them out (and some more).
    Here are the results:
You can test to see if the Virtual Memory system is getting overworked by running Utilities Activity >Monitor, click on the System Memory tab and look at PageOuts and PageIns.
I kept an eye on the virtuel memory for a while now. Seems to be fine, even after hours of my usual working procedure there are virtually no page outs.
But if your ratio is good (10% or less), then I'm would suspect instead that you need to re-install a >full combo update of the latest version of OSX.
I reinstallad the 10.6.4 Combo Update. No difference.
Then I installed a fresh copy of OSX on the firewire drive. Running an unpatched OS from the drive is not bad in regards of system response time (actually it's pretty good). But the desktop jerkyness is present all the time.
Then (after switching back to my internal drive again) I stopped keeping an eye on window movement etc. and tried out some games. The results: There is a major difference in performance when the fw drive is working in the background in contrast to an usb2 drive (or even the same fw drive attached using usb). When I am playing the game (in this case it was an opengl port of Doom) there is virtually no performance penalty when I am playing the game while transfering a huge file to an usb2 drive in the background. But when I am transfering a file to the FW drive, there is huge drop in frames per second (roughly 25 - 30 %).
I am wondering if this has anything to with fact that firewire is using dma access to the system memory (in contrast to usb) an there is some sort of congestion on the memory bus. Especially since my issues are linked to gpu performance and the 9400M in the Mini uses shared memory.

  • Using USB Devices in RDS VDI with Windows 8.1 Scenario

We are currently in a Upgrade Scenario from our old Windows XP/ Citrix XenDesktop Farm to a new VDI Installation. The new Installation is a Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services Collection using Remote Desktop Virtualizaion Hosts on 2012 R2 too.
The VD- Clients are Windows 8.1 ENT and the User Endpoints are HP ThinClients with Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Enterprise.
The user connects to his Virtual Desktop via 8.1 Embedded (RDP8.1)
We want all new USB- Drives to map natively in the RDP- Session (RemoteFX USB redirect) so USB- Sticks or CD/DVD Drives are controlled by the VD-Client OS.
We understand, that there are so called "high level devices" which RDP is using per Default. We also know, that there is a GPO that redirects all "other supportet USB devices". That works well for e.g. Webcams, but we want to override the
"high Level devices" policy an simply map a e.g. USB Stick natively to the RDP Destination.
Currently the drive is mapped as a "high Level usb device" and the usb key has no drive letter, cant be formattet or used in other RemoteApp Sessions initiated on the VD- Client OS.
    The Systems we are using:
Windows 8.1 Enterprise - VD Client on HyperV 2012 R2 FO Cluster
Windows 8.1 Embedded Industry Enterprise as ThinClient OS
Windows Server 2012 R2 as Middleware (RDS VDI Collection, Web Access)

    Hi Chris,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
The USB devices that you would like to use in the remote session must be plugged in before starting Remote Desktop Connection; devices plugged in during the session will not be redirected.
Have you tried to reconfigure the USB device?
Please try to remove that device and reconfigure with use of following command and check whether issue get resolved.
    Set-RDVirtualDesktopCollectionConfiguration –CollectionName YourCollectionName –CustomRdpProperty "usbdevicestoredirect:s:{6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f }"
where {6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f} is the System-Defined Device Setup Class GUID.

  • Using USB device with Virtual Com port

I have an actisys IR USB device that creates a virtual serial port. I can read from it using VISA, however it will not write. I have the same setup working on LV 6.1 running windows 2000. I need to make it work on my system running XP and LV 7.1.

    Hello,
Does your Windows 2000/LabVIEW 6.1 system work correctly or do you see the same behavior?  It sounds like there may be something wrong with the termination of the command.  What termination method are you using?  Is your instrument set for that method?  You may also want to try using the NI-488.2 Interactive Control.  A tutorial on how to use it is located here if needed.  This will bypass VISA and LabVIEW.  If this works, you may want to update to the latest version of VISA (if you don't already have it) to see if that fixes the issue.

  • Problems accessing internet through parallels desktop on Mac OS Leopard

I have recently installed parallels desktop on my Mac OS Leopard. I work for an organisation that requires us to use the Novell Services software, in order to access internet, shared folders Groupwise email etc.
The good news is that I have access to the server, hence the software works on the mac via windows XP, and I can use the Groupwise email. however, I cannot seem to access the internet using either firefox or explorer browsers. I have looked at the connections settings, security settings etc,. and no joy.
Has anyone had similar problems or suggest ideas on how i can solve the problem...
Its a nightmare having to use windows on the Mac, but its my only way so i can access the internet and email...
many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and completely unrelated to Parallels
You should really consider posting issues with Parallels on the Parallels forums as they would be focused more toward the issue than an Apple forum.

  • Mandriva 2009: trying to use a raw USB device through VISA

    Hi,
I'm a real beginner at Unix, so please be patient :-)
I have just installed Mandriva 2009 and LabVIEW 2009 on my laptop. My objective is to drive a USB raw device.
I went through some difficulties to install NI-VISA 4.5 and solved them by browsing in the forum. Some issues remain:
     - As I am not familiar with Unix, I am not sure to understand what "usbfs should be mounted with devmode=0666". Could someone tell me the rigth command line to enter?
     - When running AddUsbRawPermissions.sh, I am told that /etc/hotplug cannot be found. Reading the script, I saw that it is looking for /sbin/udevcontrol. I don't have it, I only have under /sbin the "udevadm" and "udevd" executables.
     - When running the VISA driver wizard, I only have access to PXI/PCI. Maybe it is related to former points.
     - When trying to launch the VISA Interactive Control, I get a nice bouncing cursor animation, but nothing else.
     - When trying to use the "VISA Find Resource" VI, Labview just crashes.
Thank you in advance for your answers.

    Hello,
First command line generated an error (translation from French: mount: you must specify the file system type). Second command line seemed to work. At least it didn't cause an error. Therefore I went ahead and tried the AddUsbRawPermissions.sh script, leading to the same error: -Cannot find "/etc/hotplug".-
Besides, VISA Driver Wizard and VISA Interactive Control still behave the same way.
