Utter Chaos

I'm truly appalled at the service or lack thereof while attempting to upgrade my son's phone. There was no line at all, the process consisted of asking prospective customers what they wanted. After determining the customer's purpose, those with new activations are ushered to the front of the line for service while the rest of us established customers were left to watch others jump ahead of us. Truly pathetic and it ensures that I will NEVER do any business at this store again......

  • Help! Utter chaos in brush preset pop-out

    First of all - I'm neither familiar with nor do I utilize the technical terms for any of this junk (no offense intended. I know some of y'all are uber-serious about this..stuff...). I'm just the sort of person who calls things do-dads and thingie-mah-bobs. So, I'll try to make this as clear as possible and HOPEFULLY you can help me out - and I'd appreciate it if you could dumb down your responses so I don't have a "ehh...what the wha...?" look glued to my face all day. It really doesn't look pretty on me.
    I'm using Photoshop CS5 on Windows 7.
    The issue: My attempt to organize (delete some, rename some) the pop-out list (pictured below) resulted in utter chaos...I've managed to create doubles of each one (also pictured below) and delete none. Talk about a clusterfu... of fail, right?
    Okay. Details time:
    - As for the doubles: There are not doubles of the .abr files in brushes folder (adobewhatever > presets > brushes). They only show up in the program.
    - In attempt to delete some, I tried deleting the .abr file from the adobewhatever > presets > brushes folder. They still show up in the program even after restarting although when I click on it it says it can't find the file or whatever (Duh, so why is it in the list?!)
    - In attempt to rename some, I tried renaming the .abr file from the adobewhatever > presets > brushes folder...and the newly named set *does* show up in the list after restarting the program (yay!); however, so does the original name (odd...magic? gnomes?)
    What I have tried:
    - I have tried "reset brushes."
    - I have fiddled in the presets manager 'til I went crosseyed.
    - I have tried loading a set and deleting each individual brush from that set.The name of that set still shows up in the pop-out, even after restart.
    - I have restarted the program...dozens of times.
    - I have restarted my whole computer and am on the verge of taking a bat to the darn thing Office Space style.

    All I wanted to do was rename certain items in that list (NOT individual brushes, but the whole set they come in) and also delete some of those sets. Perhaps I'm scatterbrained today, but all I can find online on this topic is how to delete individual brushes out of each set...which, as we've learned if we're reading for comprehension here, IS NOT WHAT I WANT TO DO.

    As I am actually a Mac-user I can’t provide you with the correct path, but you might consider that there should be two Presets/Brushes-folders – one in the application’s folder and one in your user location (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2355732#2355732).
    So you may have accidentally saved the ones from the application-folder to the user-folder to cause the duplicates.

  • How do I only keep ONE copy of each picture?

    For some reason my iPhoto library multiplies like rabbits. I've had to delete duplicates, triplicates and more several times. I'll have one good picture, one small picture, and one blurry picture most of the time or sometimes I will get a blank outline where there should be a picture. I only want one of each picture and don't want two iPhoto libraries like I currently have. I have no idea why I have two, but I do. I'm taking up valuable hard disk space with multiple copies of the same pic.
    Maybe a better way of asking this is how do I make what I see in my iPhoto library be the only pics on my computer? Can I delete other picture folders etc?
    Speak slow, I'm a MAC user because I broke every windows pc I used!!!

    Well that's odd:
    When iPhoto manages the files
    b. you will have dupes all over the place
    You will have exactly the same number of files, less a single alias per picture.. Obviously you don't understand how iPhoto works.
    c. if you have to triage your Mac - you may find utter chaos in determining file versions and having to open thousands of files to determine whats what.
    It's easier to recover from a damaged database if iPhoto manages the files.
    With the user managing the files:
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
    Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
    If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    If you're concerned about finding the files, that can be easily done from the iPhoto Window.
    There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
    This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
    If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
    If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Letting iPhoto manage the files takes up no more disk space than you doing it, backing up is much easier and recovering from errors is also much easier.

  • Iphoto 09 major problems - PLEASE HELP!

    Gosh I really hope someone can help me. .
    I upgraded iphoto 09 this morning and the result has been utter chaos.
    First I have 3 different iphoto libraries for different years. There are albums from 2 years ago now mixed in the middle of 2009 albums (where the websites are listed under Mobile me Gallery on the left hand side).
    To make matters worse, every Mobile Me Gallery is malfunctioning. If you click on a gallery, it starts looking like it is updating the album (even though no changes have been made). It then comes up as an error and takes away the link for that gallery. When I tried to click the link to get the pics, the links are all unavailable. I have hundreds of galleries that I have created over the years.
    I hope this is a common problem with new users. Please let me know.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you just upgrade the application and then launch each existing library with the new library?
    Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild each of the libraries. Select the last three options.

  • Latitude e7450 - Repeating Keys/Debouncing Issue is present in this model too

    Not sure how to get attention to this, as I do not think Dell is aware of this problem since this model was only released a month ago.  The repeating keys/debouncing issue described here  , is present in this new model Latitude e7450 in both bios A00 and A01.  Please make this bug known, so that Dell is able to fix it in a bios update!

    So, I also found and posted in this thread  about the issue with the E7450
    and basically that is the aggregation of all the posts on this repeating keys/debouncing issue on ALL affected models.  Honestly as a developer, I'm pretty shocked at how bad Dell support really is.  I've been lucky enough to never have any hardware issues until now...
    They chose to have a forum for their customer service, fine; that works with many other companies. But they should have at least split the forums into laptop series,by model number, have a bug tracker and paid more than 1 guy to relay issues to the engineering team.. This is ridiculous and utter chaos reading through these threads and it is enough to make me question buying a high priced Dell ever again.  Like many people I went with Dell Latitude after Lenovo created that awful macbook-like clickable touchpad, but it looks like their 2015 models are bringing back hardware left/right click buttons again so that might be my next purchase.

  • How do I know where output devices are referenced?

    When deleting an Output device using transaction SPAD, how do you where this output device was reference?  E.g. Batch jobs, user default, etc.  Ideally, I would like a program that can take an output device as an input and give me back everywhere the output device is reference within SAP.

    I don't know and Ok, try RSPO0040 (better than nothing), but I really consider this challenge bordering on impossible in any non trivial scenario, if the whole output devices setup has not been thought through from get go (with logical output devices being "exposed" by spool system) and the changes being done under conditions of iron fist discipline... Not one of 5 productive instances I've worked on had a semblance of order in printer setup by the time I got there, not one had a concept, description, anything for printer setup... by the time I had to take care of the stuff I was happy if there was at least any naming convention used.
    There are around 150 DB tables that have data element RSPOPNAME in it... more of tables if you consider other data elements for domain RSPOPNAME and who can say if it's only RSPOPNAME... Device names get assigned to SET/GET parameters, to custom development customizing tables not using RSPOPNAME, they get hard-coded in programs, stored in report variants - utter chaos is "normal" state of things in my experience . If you know what functionality is in use in the system (which SAP modules), you can narrow down, but asking for where used list of any reliability for whole SAP - impossible challenge.

  • Mono outs in channel strip possible?

    i have created a couple of mono output channels in my audio mixer, but they are still showing up as stereo channels in the channel strip. i want to be able to set tracks to output to mono channels 5 OR 6, not stereo channel 5-6.

    that's what i thought but then i only got it out of the left channel. on second glance i still had my hardware mixer channels panned hard left and right setup for my old card.......oops.
    new computer + new interface + new sequencer = utter chaos.

    I bought one mac air with less space than the mac pro backup that I have in the Time Machine, so I can't migrate the old mac to the new mac air. How can I Access specific files in time machine then? Thank you.

    You can still get your files out of the TM backup..
    There are several methods..
    you can do it manually.
    See Can't access old files on time capsule
    You can also buy a USB drive large enough for the whole backup and simply restore the whole thing to that drive plugged into your computer.. you can then pick and choose what files you want. And at any time you want. Having files in their standard format and location is hugely easier than TM backups.
    If you run into permissions issues there is a fair bit of help although a bit outdated in pondini KB.
    So read through the info here..

    You can pull the hard disk out of your Mac Pro.. that is not hard.. put it in a USB to sata holder and access files that way..
    Overall this is what I would do anyway.. because you will not want to junk the computer with files intact.. pull the files directly off the old hard disk.
    Let me also commend to you a different strategy in the future..
    TM is great when it works.. sadly on every upgrade Apple make changes to it.. and cause utter chaos.
    Buy a 3rd party backup software.. I use CCC and like it.. you create bootable clones of your Mac.. that means all files are readily accessible because you can literally boot directly from the backup.. or access the files because they are not hidden, compressed, rewritten in strange formats.. etc.
    Recovery of a computer with a dead hard disk is 3min exercise where you hold the options key during boot and choose the backup disk.
    You can continue to use TM for the incremental backups which it does very well.. but have the bootable clone as a way of accessing everything. From which you can then easily access the TM backup for whatever might be missing.. I do not do Clones on regular basis.. so it is slightly different method of doing things..
    You can never have enough backups.

  • Automation Settings Question

    Is there a way to have Logic automatically show all of the automation setting/parameters a plug has without having to initialize them individually by actually PICKING that parameter in the plug itself or by manually picking the plug parameter in one of the track's hidden pop up menus?
    I'll explain more specifically: Take the Channel EQ plug, for example. If I want to automate a parameter in the track's timeline (as opposed to in the Channel EQ itself) it seems I have to select that parameter in the plug first or manually select that plug in one of the track parameter's hidden pop up menus. This can get very time consuming and disrupt workflow if I want to be able to automate ANY of the plug's parameters upon selecting the plug for a track in the first place. Otherwise I have to select each one of the 40+ Channel EQ parameters manually - which can be an absolute nightmare when I'm sound designing 50+ tracks of audio - most (if not all) of which need some sort of effecting.

    I see your point Javier, but if I'm understanding you correctly, do you realize how many automation lanes that would be? It would be impossible to navigate through.
    Logic's automation is specifically set up this way, to avoid the utter chaos that would certainly occur if all automated parameters available were visible at the same time.
    That being said, the triangle at the bottom of the track name, when automation is visible, once clicked, will display another parameter (if automation has been written to it). I seem to vaguely remember that you could option click the triangle (or something along those lines) and have 30 "lanes" visible at the same time. Again, if automation data already had been written for those parameters.
    If this is REALLY something you want to have available, you might need to create an auto load that has ALL parameters for the all your most used plug-ins, visible, by writing a tiny bit of automation data for each and every parameter at the very top of the song. That way, those parameters would be available, and visible, if you had it saved that way.
    If I've misunderstood, my apologies.... and if there is a way to do this, and someone else knows of it specifically, I'm all ears. But it's my understanding that Logic won't make the parameter available (without you selecting it from the menu), unless automation data has been written for it. Mainly to keep things from getting out of hand, visibly speaking.

  • HT204406 Since updating to ios6 on my iPhone 4S iTunes Match has not worked. The app stays open for about five seconds before crashing. With ios5 it was great and worth paying for. Now it is utterly useless. Apple, please listen and fix this problem.

    Ever since I updated to ios 6 on my iPhone 4S, iTunes Match has not worked.
    I have been through the process of deleting my iTunes control files, and that worked temporarily, but now I cannot listen to music through the service.
    It shows my artists and albums, then takes forever to access the songs (often more than 10 minutes - and yes, that's using WiFi), more often than not crashing before it gets to that point, then repeatedly crashing when I try to open the Music App, so I can't even access things I've downloaded.
    Has anyone else found a solution?
    Apple, please listen up - I am paying you for the iTunes Match service that is utterly useless. Fix it please.

    After some troubleshooting, I decided to order a new battery.  I replaced the battery and was then able to get it to restore, however--after I restore it and it comes time to restart the phone, it gets stuck and doesn't turn on.
    Sorry, your repair ruined the iPhone.
    She does not have apple care and even though she loved this device, she isn't going to buy another iPhone because of all the problems shes had with this one (it's just over a year old).
    After you ruined the iPhone with DIY, Apple won't touch it anymore. You should have asked before all these had happened.
    I'm an android user myself and I love rooting/flashing new ROMS, so if jailbreaking her phone or doing some kind of super-restore with 3rd party programs might help, I'm all for it-

  • Tips for resolving photo chaos prior to installing Lightroom?

    I tried and really liked the 30-day free trial of Lightroom 2 and I intend to buy it (or Lightroom 3 if it is released soon enough).  The fast photo enhancement capabilities were convincing enough, but I am also looking for a solution for managing my photo chaos.
    My problem is that I have photos scattered everywhere - on my work laptop, on my desktop PC, on external hard drives, on CDs.  And I have duplicates everywhere but not all photos are duplicated.  I have completely lost sight of where photos are located.   I recently bought a Windows Home Server to make regular backups of my desktop PC and have manually moved loads of photos to the Server to make sure they are in a safe place (the folder is automatically duplicated on a separate drive) and share them with other family members.
    In future with Lightroom, I envision importing my photos from the camera via Lightroom to my desktop PC and having Lightroom save a copy of the original  to my server for safekeeping.   But I am unsure of the best way to handle the existing photos.  Are there recommendations on how to prepare the existing chaos for importing them into Lightroom?  And can Lightroom recognize if exact duplicate photos are being imported from different sources?
    I would be grateful for any tips, or pointers to tips on the web or books.

    I can tell you how I handled a recent and similar project.  I wanted to gather together copies of all of my digital imaes including camera images, scans, and multiple iterations of art images going back many years.  I bought a new 2TB external drive and set up a folder called "Photos" to put everything in.  Personally, I like a bit of folder organization.  I set up folders for my personal photographs, stock, and client work (weddings, portraits, commercial).  I use a basic date folder system for the actual images within those folders:  YYYYMMDD-short description (20091225-John and Susan's wedding or 20050601-Hawaii trip).  That is the system I have always used so it was easy to copy those folders and loose images from hard drives, CD's, DVD's, zip drives, and even diskettes.  Once that was all done and everything was roughly sorted into those master folders, I began importing the images into LR.  I would do smaller sections at a time since my experience is that LR can choke when importing huge numbers of images at one time.  I was dealing with hundreds of thousands of images. Once imported, it is easy to see duplicates in LR (since I did a rough sort as I copied them in).  If the image metadata had the date in it, then I drag images not in folders to the correct date folder.  I just kept plugging thru it.  In the case of client work, I did not care as much if I had duplicates since it is unlikely I will need to access most of it.  I just deleted obvious duplicates, and left the rest alone.  My stock images (140,000+) took more time.  Different rendering of the same art images just got stacked together.  It took a few weeks of part time work plugging through the images, but now it is all cleaned up.
    At least set up a simple system for importing the new work.  The date folder, even if you don't separate into other master folders (like I do with weddings, portraits, personal, stock, etc), is a simple way to keep things organized.  Also, set up a simple naming system for your images.  The biggest problems I had was the really old images from my beginnings in digital where I named things:  "big blue butterfly.jpg" and "big blue butterfly w/blur.jpg".  It made things very confusing to sort out.  Now I have a simple alpha-numeric system and variations just have -01, -02 etc. added on.  Often with virtual copies, I don't even need to have multiple copies.

  • Library file corrupted and absolute chaos in my itunes folder

    Is there any way to retrieve the library folder that contains all the info for the playlists?
    I just bought a macbook pro with yosemite from June 2014 and wanted to sync my itunes library. I had all on an external hard drive and then hit absolute disaster:
    Itunes 12 won't recognise an old library file from itunes 9.2.1.
    So from the previous libraries folder I dragged the file into the itunes folder, renamed it, opened 12 but none of my playlists showed up and none of my over 12000 podcasts either.
    Only purchased songs were visible.
    I finally realised that 9.2.1 works in yosemite when opened from the external hard drive. I assigned the itunes folder and presto everything showed up.
    But then I made the huge mistake of opening in itunes 12 again and for some reason it resorted all the files in an impossible way. It created a folder for every podcast edition and then chucked a hole lot of mp3s into the trash. The itunes folder is now utterly unrecognisable and the library file won't open in 9.2.1 any more. The library files from previous library folder do not work in 9.2.1 either any more, it's a mess and took me previously months to create the right order.
    I had also reduced the podcasts in file size to fit them all onto my ipod classic and now it's all gone.
    Is there any way at all that I can retrieve the library file from my ipod to re-create the order that I had?

    i just migrated all my mp3's over to a new computer. installed the latest version of itunes 6.
    when you open itunes on a 'clean' install, there are no songs in your library folder.
    so what i did was copied 5 gigs of songs into the default itunes folder into "my documents/my music/itunes/itunes music" folder. to be honest, your 'music' folder can be on any local drive on your machine. i just put mine where i can access it quicker than a networked drive or itunes sharing from another computer.
    then in the 'file' column, i did "add folder to my library" to load the songs into the library. after about 15 minutes, itunes had all 5 gigs of my songs. i'm listening to my itunes as we speak.

    un-install itunes, re-start, install itunes, re-start, then do the above...
