Validity Sensor fingerprint reader is not listed in Biometric Devices

I recieved an Elitebook 840 G1, tried to turn on the fingerprint reader, but it hasn't been recognized.
At Control Panel/Biometric Devices there is no device, although in the Device Manager the "Validity Sensor" is listed, the driver looks up to date too. I've installed HP ProtectTools Security Manager, there I can find the option Fingerprints, but at the Windows logon there is still Username/Password the only option to log on to the system.
Checked BIOS, Fingerprint logon is enabled. Tried to uninstall Validity Sensor and then reinstall it, didn't worked.OS: Win7(x64) Thank you in advance! Cheers,Thomas

In the meantime I found the solution:
I've upgraded the HP Client Security Manager (sp63509), opened the program, enroled my fingerprints, and checked "Windows Logon Security" at Home/Advanced Settings/ Security Features.
It's finally working, I'm able to log on with my fingerprints.
(Still, under Control Panel / Biometric Devices there are no items listed...)

The fingerprint reader is not working - I tried to configure it through PC Settings and the error was "An error occured processing your fingerprint". I installed drivers from people facing the same issue, as well as the drivers on HP's support page, and it didn't work. I tried uninstalling the driver, and rebooting to see if Windows would fix it - it didn't. I have no idea what to do, please help!

You cannot run ProtectTools on this computer; ProtectTools Security can only be run on a business class system - the dv7 is a consumer notebook. Your dv7 is a nice notebook; it is a different kind of animal from a business class system.

After the you uninstall the program from Programs and Features, Shut down the computer to a dead stop (off), boot the computer and log in.

Fingerprint reader not listed in Biometric Devices

Hello. The HP Notebook I'm currently using with Windows 7 Ultimate is the Pavilion dv4-1225ee Entertainment PC (FZ248EA#ABV). It's got a built-in fingerprint reader (Validity Sensor's VFS201), which works only with DigitalPersona.
Now the problem I'm encountering is quite minor: If I go to Biometric Devices in Control Panel, I get the message "Windows did not find any biometric device on this computer. You might need to attach your device or install device drivers", even though the reader is listed under Biometric Devices in Device Manager ;

I am trying to enable my HP Probook 450 G0 fingerprint reader.... I tried many driver version of validity sensor... and finally i have currently installed the driver and software that are mentioned in following link....

I have the same problem as the original poster, and followed the download link you provided only to encounter the exact same issue. I am using Windows 7 and bought this machine two days ago. I don't understand why this singular process is this problematic. I really miss my ASUS K53E and it's face logon feature.
Perhaps HP should take lessons unless they have something better than this "fingerprint reader." The only consistent feature I am detecting is its inconsistancy. Oh well, I just won't bother using it, or put a sticker over the thing.
If I have to spend more than an hour troubleshooting a feature of medium to low importance then it was a mistake to purchase the machine (but it was a gift sadly), and it was a mistake to implement the feature and release it without making sure it works. Pretty weak HP, but not as bad as Toshiba or Gateway/Acer at least--not that it says much.
Anyone have a legit fix for this annoying issue? Or some third party facial recognition login program instead?

There is an effort to get Validity Sensors fingerprint work under GNU/Linux. There is a back-engineered driver for 0005 and 0008 devices. Can someone, who owns 0018 device, help? You can look at http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/fprint.

restart the biometric service. Now you should get some data.

My fingerprint reader is not recognized by DigitalPersona when I upgraded to Windows 7

My fingerprint reader worked with Vista but when I upgraded to Windows 7 it is not recognized by DigitalPersona.
I have a dv3-1075us with the AMD Turion X2 dual core mobile RM-72 2.10 Ghz processor. I have updated the BIOS to F.15, there is not a biometrics option in the BIOS for me to turn on, Authentec Driver 20.0.18 dated 11-24-2009 (Device Manger does nto show an error), and running Digital Persona Personal version 4.11.3826.
I have updated this from the troubleshooting section of the HP Support website.
At the windows login I get a "Reader not detected" message and in DigitalPersona "The fingerprint reader is not connected. Connect the reader."
What further steps can I do to get my fingerprint reader working?

I've got an HDX9350 that I originally ran on Vista, and later upgraded to 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate. I managed to make most functionality run on that installation, albeit buggy and slow, running assorted drivers in compatibility mode.
Earlier this week I installed the 64-bit version od Windows 7 Ultimate, because the upgraded installation did run into problems sometimes, requiring a long time to get an ip address etc. I was surprised to see a lot of drivers being automatically installed, includingdrivers for the AuthenTec 2501A fingerprint sensor.
I stumbled upon AuthenTecs own basic software, allowing You to log onto the computer and that worked. Or was it Window' own? Never mind.
Installing Digital persona resulted in no reader detected all of the time, despite following instructions on this forum.
Installing HP's SimplePass, things worked straight away! Maybe Digital Persona isn't compatible with Windows 7, or with my HDX9350?

"CRITICAL PROCESS DIED" and "FINGERPRINT READER IS NOT CONNECTED.

the two issues are as follows;When I try to use my fingerprint reader (after upgrading to win 10) I get the message that the "FINGERPRINT READER IS NOT CONNECTED". How does one get it to connect? When I try to reinstall any software that requires a (RE-START OR BOOT) with HP Recovery Manager, it gives me the new blue screen that says, CRITICAL PROCESS DIED. Please assist. Jon

It is possible to work-around the issue, but some manual steps are needed:
1. delete "smihlp.sys" from "c:\program files\thinkvantage fingerprint software"
2. run "services.msc" and stop the service "Windows Biometric Service"
3. delete the file "031D23AD-15AF-4e25-B7B3-DE34893097ED.DAT" from "c:\Windows\system32\WinBioDatabase"
4. reboot the computer (important!!)
5. now try to enroll some fingers
This should make it possible to enroll fingerprint and use it to log into Windows, until the bug can be fixed in some future version of BIOS and/or Fingerprint software.

Ipad backup not listed in itunes device backups but is on drive

I am trying to help a friend who upgraded their iPad mini to iOS7 but lost all the notes.
They did a backup but it now not listed in itunes device backups but I fount the folder on the hard drive with 8 other listed backups.
How do I add the original backup into itunes and restore from it?

Move them into folders that is listed below and iTunes should recognize it. Look in the Back up your backup sections to see the location.

W520 Smart Card reader does not show up in Device Manager.
It was working before and now nothing. Nothing happens when SD card plugges in.
Could my smart card reader stop working or is this a configuration issue?

Fingerprint reader - does not work

My fingerprint reader is maybe broken.
when I try to swipe finger over it, lenovo fingerprint software says swipe too short... it used to work on vista but I had installed XP on my notebook and then it stopped working. I tried also win vista and win7 and same message :-/ don't you know what should it be?

we have the same problem on T410 with OS w8.1 x64 ENTERPRISE and latest ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software Version 6.0.0.8102.
On my company for increase security login is allowed only with CTRL+ALT+DEL and Do Not Display Last User Name enabled; so users name created/used on that system are not displayed at login page.
IT dept. run some test and looks like this options are not compatible with Lenovo ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software Version 6.0.0.8102; so this Lenovo sw is not allowed on our systems until they can fix it..

IPhone 6 fingerprint reader is not working.

So my iPhone 6 fingerprint reader stopped working. When i try to enable it it just says: "Failed, please try again later". I've tryed to update to iOS 8.3 but that fails too. What should i do? I recently fixed my cracked screen if that has something to do with it.

Come to think of it, I am not sure I ever tried my SD card reader since I installed Arch on the machine (the machine was running Ubuntu before that, and there, inserting an SD card would trigger some automount magic).

Burner not listed in output devices

Just bought a new PowerMac with a factory installed PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D. While running DVDSP 4.0.3, I only have hard drive listed under output devices. I'm guessing the burner is compatible since it shipped with the computer...any suggestions or any similar experiences? Thanks in advance.

I am having the same issue, as are several other people (search the form for "burner" and you'll see several reports of this problem on the first page). My Mac Pro is two weeks old, and the burner does show up in the "more info" report - but not in DVD Studio Pro, even after rebooting.
