Vanishing Point issues in CS3

I have tried to use the vanishing point filter but I do not get the option to export to After Effects. I have tried a number of tutorials and am confident that I am doing everything correctly, I have also read the manual and can't find anything. The filter works and allows me to draw the planes, but it only gives the option to render to photoshop.
I have tried reinstalling both After Effects CS3 and Photoshop CS3 but it still doesn't work.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Jason

I've run into this. I think VP is not very well implemented.
In my experience the message you got seems to indicate some error from VP that gets saved into the file structure, rendering it unable to use VP again.
If I remember correctly, I've had some luck with doing Save As to the file, giving a different name and trying again. But I think I've had some files that were permantly affected.
...My memory on all of this is not entirely clear, because I've grown a little jaded on VP and I've gone back to using the Transform function.

  • Vanishing Point issue - cs6

Why does cs6 or the cs5 stop working when I use the vanishing point. i have a file showing an open dictionary. I am mapping the opened  page in this dictionary. The page has a curved profile. To this curved profile I would be pasting another seperate page (of the same size) from another file. My grid size is about 100. I am using the angle adjustment to help map the curved profile.

    Good day!
Why does cs6 or the cs5 stop working when I use the vanishing point.
    What exactly do you mean?
Is there a crash? If so someone else might be able to get relevant information from the crash report.
Could you please post a screenshot or lores?
Might a Warp on a Smart Object not also work? (Naturally this does not address the Vanishing Point issue itself.)

  • Vanishing Point issue, results pixelated/jaggy

    Hello folks
I'm looking for a solution to a Vanishing Point filter issue. Everytime I try working with this filter, the result is always very pixelated or jaggy. If I apply a very high resolution image to a vanishing point plane, then scale it down 25% of original size inside the filter tool, then click OK to apply the filter, the result is always horrible. The image looks pixelated and jaggy. I tried multiple combination of quality and size of images, but nothing seems to do the job properly.
Am I missing something? Is there a real professional purpose to this tool or the results will always be like this? I would have tons of use to this great tool for client pitch but unfortunately cannot come up with any good looking results.
Here's an example I came up with to demonstrate. Notice how the content is very damaged (pixelated/jaggy). Worth mentioning that the original Coca-Cola picture was very high quality. Also, I zoomed in at 200% so you can clearly see the issue.
    Thanks for your help,
    Vincent

No doubt about it it is your understanding about what is going on and you might not be able to resolve this in your mind and that is quite understandable.
But here is the truth and reality of the circumstance you will have to give the logos some blur and a little noise when reducing it.
These logos are very hard edge and when reducing it without some blur and noise the edges will be sharply defined extreme contrast and there are only a few colors in which photoshop can work so you will see the pixelation so if you want a sharp looking item you need to blur it a bit.
That is what I did here and it looks a lot more natural,
You kind of have to have some understanding of the tool and what it can and cannot do and the art as well which was probably vector originally.
I know you think it should do what ever you tell it to do and it should do it the way you want it to but this is istill creating art whether commercial or fine art and it still requires skill and finesse and lots of tactile nuances.
You're probably going to be angry at me for writing it this way but somewhere down the line you might say you know he was right.
BTW I do think however you bring up a very important issue you should be able to adjust this in the Vantage point tool to your liking so you can see what you are doing.
Resize, adjust blur or sharpness, adjust noise add colors for blending maybe blur hard edges.
Something to think about at least.

  • Transform within the Vanishing Point filter

    Hi -
Last night I was trying to copy/paste one image into another, using the Vanishing Point filter. The object being pasted started out much larger than the area I marked out with the VP filter. After it pasted, I clicked the Transform tool (still in the VP filter dialog). I was able to rotate the pasted object, but could not find the handles to resize it. Finally, I managed to redo the original object so that it was small enough to paste into the VP selection, and hit Transform again. That time, the handles were there for me to enlarge it - no problem.
Why would the Transform tool in VP allow me to make my pasted object larger, but not smaller? Or was I just up too late last night? I did search well outside the bounds of the marked VP paste selection, looking for the handles, but couldn't find them. Using CS4 on XP.
    Thanks!

See if the ScriptingListener plugin generates any code for it. If it doesn't,
you are probably out of luck.

  • Scripting the vanishing point filter?

    Hi,
i'm looking for a way to script the vanishing point filter in CS3.
Is there a possibility to do so?
Or do i have to programm that all by myself?
I want to project an image into another with a given perspective.
I have to use scripts, because this action should be automated on a given set of images later on.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Carsten

  • CS3: Vanishing Point won't work

I have a fairly large PSD (130MB) that I need to run the Vanishing Point filter on. I did it once, no problem. Now when I try I get an error:
Tried on two different machines, each with CS3 and 10 GB RAM.
What gives? Is there a less helpful error message in Photoshop?

I have had similar issues and this has worked for me. Copy the background layer, then create a new document, you will not need to do anything to the size because PS will use the size of the file you just copied. After it opens paste your image. If you need any other layers you can drag those over as well, but if you don't need them before you go into vanishing point I would wait until after you have run vanishing point just to be safe. For some reason creating this new document seems to do the trick, but I have found that sometimes, after I have worked on a file a while, the same thing will happen again. So you have to do the whole copy, new document thing again.

PS: I have this issue on all three of my computers, Dual 2ghz GD, Quad 2.5ghz G5, and 8 Core 3ghz Mac Pro. I have 18 gb ram on my 8 Core and my scratch drive is a raid 0 and consists of 6 15k drives striped over 2 channels. So it's not an issue with scratch or not enough ram.

  • Cs3 Windows 7 - Why won't Vanishing Point work?

I had to upgrade to Windows 7 and now some of the filter in PS
cs3 will not work. I tried to use Vanishing Point last night and PS kept shutting down. Is there a solution to my problem?
    Thanks Barbara

What video card do you have?
Check the web site of the maker of your video card for an updated display driver.  The one that came installed with Windows (or was downloaded via Windows Update) is often not the best choice.

  • Photoshop CS3 vanishing point help

i'm having a bit of trouble with the vanishing point filter.  this is the first time i've ever really used it to any extent so i must be overlooking something trivial or maybe it's just a program error...
anyway, whats happening is i'm trying to apply art to a box using the vanishing point filter, there is no problem with creating or editing the planes but as soon as i paste the artwork from the clipboard and try to position it to the front of the box it only wraps around two of the planes correctly and the third plane is cut off in an odd location and doesn't match up with the rest of the "box" i can't figure this out and i'm rather unsure what i should do about it seeing as how i've been unable tgo find support for this problem.  any help is greatly appriciated.  thanks.
    -Greg

I think it's how it calcualtes the plane area in relation to the original layer size vs. the "texture" resolution. What if you simply try to do this in multiple steps? I mean, some touchup is inevitable, so why not make it easy on you? The plane setup will remain active during a session, so it should be easy to make the required adjustments...

  • Vanishing point problems?

I am using CS3 on a 8 core Mac Pro with 16gb ram and a 6 drive RAID for scratch. Right now I am running Leopard but I had the same problem with Tiger. I am having issues with vanishing point, 90% of the time after I will get this message "The operation could not be completed". This happens a couple of seconds after I select this plugin. I know that it can be sensitive with large files, but usually my files are only around 500mb. I tried flattening the files and I still got the same message. If I copy this flattened file and paste it into a new document vanishing point will usually work, but if I continue to work on the file I will end up getting that message again. This is with only 5 layers and a file size of roughly 13"x16" @ 240dpi. If I open the same file in CS2 vanishing point works. I also have two other macs, a 2.5 Quad G5 and a dual 2.0 G5. I have this same problem on these computers as well. Of course I tried all of the usual fixes, repair permissions, trash prefs, etc., and still have the same issue.

I had Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 unexpectedly quit on me about an hour ago while working with Vanishing Point on a fairly simple file--2 layers, one layer with the art I was using Vanishing Point on. I had just created one plane and was pulling out a new plane from it and ZAP! This is on a Mac Pro 3 Ghz running Tiger 10.4.11, with 4GBs of RAM. My post from yesterday was from a similar Mac Pro running Leopard 10.5.2, 5 GBs of RAM.

  • Re: Vanishing points, anyone?

I'm also at my wit's end with vanishing points.  I've gone through 4-5 cycles over the last 4 months where I call, they tell me the back office will audit my account and get back to me, but no one contacts me.  I've even spoken to supervisors who claim they have no authority to help and the audit procedure is the only way to go.  I have no clue how to proceed.
In case this is happening to others:
The basic issue started when I noticed that points were being incorrectly deducted from my account -- this had been going on for over 2 years without me noticing!  I always keep a stock of Best Buy gift cards (you'd think this plus being Elite Plus and Gamer's Club Unlocked would get me some real help just due to my loyalty).  Naturally when you buy something with a gift card, you get no RZ points (because you would have got them when you bought the gift card).  I get that.  However, when I happened to return something that I had bought using a gift card, the points (that I never received in the first place) were deducted.  My guess is that this occurred when purchasing something online for an in store pickup.
The reps I spoke with early on agreed with me on the issue after lots of patient explaining.  At some point I saw that my account was audited and I was due for 850 points back.  However, they just vanished.  Soon after that I would see points pending, but come time for posting, they would vanish.  The only useful information I got was that my account had a negative balance for some reason so the points were being put towards that.  How could that even happen?  The reps mentioned this nonchalantly without even taking the time to think that the system should never allow a negative balance =)
The other hint I got was that my points might be vanishing for opting for 0% financing.  Well that's impossible because I don't even have a Best Buy credit card and only use gift cards.
The sad thing is that I've racked up a lot of points since this issue started: the 850 I was owed, plus over 1500 for video game purchaes and trade ins, and not to mention 250 each time I had to call CS.
Points have been sticking lately, but my balance is nowhere near what it ought to be.

Greetings obot, and welcome to the forum,
I can understand feeling frustrated if you have been experiencing ongoing issues with your My Best Buy™ account where it appears that some points are being removed that shouldn't and some don't look to have posted at all.  To pin point exactly when your account went negative, the best thing to do is audit your account; however, you should not have to wait any additional time or make any additional phone calls into us.  I would say this has gone on long enough.
As you mentioned, points are not awarded when a Best Buy gift card is redeemed.  If points are removed from a member's account following a return/exchange and a Best Buy gift card was the form of payment, then that is an error.  A member should not lose points that they never actually had in the first place.  I looked over your My Best Buy™ account using the email address you registered with the forum, and I do see multiple occasions where points were removed in error because a gift card had been redeemed.
It is possible for a member's points balance to go negative, which may explain why your points balance did not increase as points were posting to your account.  For example, if points were converted into a certificate and the certificate was redeemed, a member's account could go negative if a return/exchange were processed for any of the transactions that the helped earn points that went into generating the certificate.  Also, if a return/exchange were processed before points officially posted, then points might be removed which could result in a negative balance.
I am very sorry for any inconvenience you may have experienced and would like to go over your My Best Buy™ with you to see how I might be able to help.  To do that, I will be sending you a private message.  You can check your private messages by logging into the forum and clicking on the yellow envelope icon located at the top of the page.  I look forward to further speaking with you.
Thank you for reaching out to us.

  • Why is Vanishing Point filter in the latest Photoshop CC creating PNGs that do not match the planes?

    Hi Everyone,
I've scoured the forums, as well as external sites, but not finding a solution.
Tried tech support, their ideas didn't pan out. Would greatly appreciate some guidance.
Every time I try to use VPE, the resulting mesh is fine (the dxf), but the PNGs
do not match the drawn planes at all.
For example, I'll use a file from wikimedia. (all images re-compressed for the forum)
I draw the right wall, make sure it is blue, then pull the floor.
Pull the floor and the left wall.
Pull the back ground (hard to see in the compressed image, but it is there).
    Pull the ceiling.
The completed planes.  Right wall was drawn, remaining were each
pulled out the of the previous plane.  All blue.  Entire image is covered.
Importing the VPE into After Effects CC.  Note the wonky textures.
Here are the actual textures (original PNGs compressed into JPEG for posting).
This is the background piece, note how the section of the image doesn't align at
all with the plane I drew.
Hope this issue is clear to all.  The mesh looks fine to me, just the PNGs are off.
I've successfully used the Vanishing Point filter extensively in previous versions of Photoshop.
I'm currently using Photoshop CC on OSX 10.8.4 running on a 15" PowerBook Retina.
I've tried the following to no avail:
    differing JPEGs
    drawing the floor first
drawing the first surface counter-clockwise and clockwise : )
    ensured all planes are blue
    disabled graphics acceleration under prefererences
completed uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled with clean performance/preference settings (did not import any previous settings).removed the "Adobe Photoshop CC Settings" folder as well.
Tried exporting a DXF, again mesh looks great, textures are wrong.
Ideas are appreciated because right now, I'm stuck : )

    GOT IT!!!!
After we eliminated Adobe settings, and the software, I started wondering what's outside that could be affecting VPE.
It's the resolution of the screen!  I have a MBP Retina.
Using SetResX, I cranked the resolution of my screen from the default retina 1440 x 900 to the hardware's native res of 2880 x 1800.
    THIS FIXED IT.
The resulting PNGs from the export perfectly match the planes (DXF Mesh).
So, I'm asserting that there may be a bug in the current release of PS CC where it is not compatible with the default retina resolution on the MacBook Pro.
