Verication file system failed to make partition

I can't make a partition verification file system failed

Hello,
In Disk Utility, try Repair Disk first, you need another boot drive or the Install Disc if this is trying on your Boot Drive.
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • How do you install a file system on an empty partition?

Hi. I'm running 10.3.9 on a B&W G3. I've formatted a 100Gb drive with a 40Gb partition on which Panther is installed (and which is running even as I type) and several empty partitions. I was going to install OS 9 on one of the empty partitions, but Disk Utility doesn't seem to want to let me do install a file system on an empty partition. Hence, the OS 9 installer can't find the empty partitions, and therefore can't install.
Is there another way to put a file system on an empty partition?

    Matt--
One suggestion: if you can't figure out how to put a file system on the empty space, you could clone your current partition to an external drive, re-partition the internal drive drive and then clone the external back. Like John, I've heard of utilities that can re-partition a drive without erasing your data, but I just can't imagine using one if I didn't have a clone anyway. So that's what I've done when I want to change a partition size.

  • Zone install file system failed?

On the global zone, my /opt file system is like this:
    /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s3 70547482 28931156 40910852 42% /opt
I am trying to install it in NMSZone1 like this config:
    fs:
    dir: /opt
    special: /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s3
    raw: /dev/rdsk/c1t1d0s3
    type: ufs
    options: [nodevices,logging]
    But failed like this:
    bash-2.05b# zoneadm -z NMSZone1 boot
zoneadm: zone 'NMSZone1': fsck of '/dev/rdsk/c1t1d0s3' failed with exit status 3
    3; run fsck manually
zoneadm: zone 'NMSZone1': unable to get zoneid: Invalid argument
zoneadm: zone 'NMSZone1': unable to destroy zone
zoneadm: zone 'NMSZone1': call to zoneadmd failed
    Please help me. Thanks.

It appears that the c1t1d0s3 device is already in use as /opt in the
global zone. Is that indeed the case? If so, you need to unmount
it from there (and remove or comment out its entry in the global
zone's /etc/vfstab) file and then try booting the zone again.

In Windows Event long I can see the following events logged:
    Event 3002, Port Map:
Windows(R) failed a request to register RPC Port Mapper on TCP port 111.  RPC Port Mapper cannot start.
Network File System (NFS) clients use RPC Port Mapper (also known as Portmap and Rpcbind) to discover NFS protocols on remote servers.  Without RPC Port Mapper, Server for NFS
cannot start and NFS clients cannot access files on this server.
Verify that no other software is registered on TCP port 111, then start Server for NFS manually (which will also start RPC Port Mapper).
    Event 7000, Service Control Manager:
The Server for NFS Open RPC (ONCRPC) Portmapper service failed to start due to the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
    Event 7001, Service Control Manager:
The Server for NFS Driver service depends on the Server for NFS Open RPC (ONCRPC) Portmapper service which failed to start because of the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
    Event 7001, Service Control Manager:
The Server for NFS service depends on the Server for NFS Driver service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.
Based on a technet forum I have already checked and made sure there is no other service running on port 111 (command used is netstat -a -b -o).
    Dependent Service Status:
During the installation process “Client for NFS” seems to have gone well and the service started successfully. But the “Server for NFS” failed, when checked for the status of the dependent process “portmap” service failed to start with the WIN32_EXIT_CODE
“31 (0x1f)”. Please find below the query result.

As the EXIT CODE is 31 ( A device attached to the system is not functioning), I have checked device manager and made sure there is no yellow warning shown against any hardware device. Further I am not sure how to proceed and debug this issue.
Please let me know if you have any suggestion on how debug this issue further.

My solution was to run netstat -ano to identify what process was running on port TCP/UDP :111, then with the command tasklist I got PID matching with the task name. Once identified I stopped the process, rebooted and installed
the NFS service. On top of that, before installing NFS services I disabled firewall and antivirus. It worked fine for me. I hope this will be usefull for you. By the way, don't forget to enable all process back!
    Have a good one!

  • "checking file systems failed", remount results in booting again

The other day my system totally hung (doing something with eclipse & grails). After waiting a while, I rebooted.
Of course filesystems wasn't unmounted cleanly so during boot I got the message from the subject.
Besides that the instruction to mount read/write again:
    mount -n -o remount,rw /
However this command immediately is finished. Then typing exit should result in a reboot. However it displays briefly "device busy". So the remounting thing doesn't work.
No I cannot back into Arch anymore.
Am I doomed to use the XP boot option for ever?

  • Missing Recovery Partition and Unrecognized File Systems

So, a long time ago I accidentally deleted my recovery partition and have recently been trying to fix it so that I can upgrade my OS to Mavericks. After browsing around here I found the Recovery Partition Creator 3.7 and used it to create a new recovery partition. Using the diskutil list command everything seemed to be fine and it looked like the partition was successfully created so I tried reinstalling OS X Lion by holding command R at startup. Doing so brought up the internet recovery menu and I selected reinstall Lion which was still unsuccessful because "a recovery partition could not be created". So, I decided to check in disk utility to see what might be wrong and I used the disk utility debug command in order to access disk utility's debug menu and show all the hidden partitions. Now, looking at these partitions I see two hidden partitions: disk0s1 which is an EFI partition, and disk0s3 which is the Apple Boot Partition that was created by Recovery Partition Creator 3.7. After verifying the partitions, disk utility is telling me that both my EFI and apple boot partitions have unrecognized file systems, my Macintosh HD partition is fine. At this point I do not know what to do.
Below are photos of the diskutil list and of what disk utility is showing me for the two hidden partitions.
For reference I am running OSX Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) on a early 2011 13 inch Macbook Pro (Base Model).
    Bootrom version: MBP81.0047.B27
    SMC Version: 1.68f99
Thank you all in advance for your help, feel free to ask me any questions.

Just an update, I went ahead and installed Lion again over the existing TM restored installation using the Lion Update file and at least File Vault is working. Interestingly, I still do not have a Recover partition so obviously something new for Apple Support to learn.

    Hi,
We do a backup of the our BI production server every night (OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2 BI1)
    The process we follow is:
    1. Stop BI Services
    2. Weblogic (incluedes Node Manager, Weblogic and others)
After every stop of weblogic, there is a file get created under WLS_Home/instances/instance1 and the file is like core.xxxxx ( e.g. core_31176, core_19440).
My questions regarding these files are:
    1. What is the use of these files?
    2. Can I delete them (Depends on the answer of the above question)?
    3. Is it possible to control not to create these files (if they are not useful)?
    Thanks in advance.
KiranCheck this thread: CORE.xxxx big file... What is it?
It sounds like it is safe to remove those file's unless you need to debug any weblogic issues.

  • File System Error on Muvo Slim 51

Hello. Up until a couple of months ago my player was working fine...until the dreaded file system error message.
I have a macbook and I have only seen solutions for this problem using Windows platform.
Can anyone offer any advice... the player is not even showing up in my disk utility when I plug it in.
    Thank you!

Hi Jason. I forgot to mention this. Windows XP does not format the player. As a matter of fact, the context menu that pops up when right-clicking the storage icon (representing the player) in My Computer pops after a minute or two. Something must be wrong. When I look at the Properties of the storage representing the player, it's capacity is nil with file system as <EM>Raw. </EM>I tried Partition Magic 8 in a friend's pc but it seems that external storage is not recognized or at least I don't know how to use the software. My analysis is that this is similar to the case when you partition a hard dri've during installation of Windows XP Pro (at least on my experience) and forget to specify the file system of the other partitions. Those partitions wont be visible in the disk management tools of windows. I will try your suggestion and update this thread on my progress.
    Thanks very much

  • Why would anyone want to use ASM Clustered File system?

    DB Version: 11gR2
    OS : Solaris, AIX, HP-UX
I've read about the new feature ACFS.
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/ACFS_11gR2.php
But why would anyone want to store database binaries in a separate Filesystem created by Oracle?

    Hi Vitamind,
how do these binaries interact with the CPU when they want something to be done?
ACFS should work with Local OS (Solaris) to communicate with the CPU . Isn't this kind of double work?ACFS dont work with .... but provide filesystem to Local S.O
There may be extra work, but that's because there are more resources that a common filesystem.
Oracle ACFS executes on operating system platforms as a native file system technology supporting native operating system file system application programming interfaces (APIs).
ACFS is a general purpose POSIX compliant cluster file system. Being POSIX compliant, all operating system utilities we use with ext3 and other file systems can also be used with Oracle ACFS given it belongs to the same family of related standards.
    ACFS Driver Model
An Oracle ACFS file system is installed as a dynamically loadable vendor operating system (OS) file system driver and tool set that is developed for each supported operating system platform. The driver is implemented as a Virtual File System (VFS) and processes all file and directory operations directed to a specific file system.
It makes sense you use the ACFS if you use some of the features below:
    • Oracle RAC / RAC ONE NODE
    • Oracle ACFS Snapshots
    • Oracle ASM Dynamic Volume Manager
    • Cluster Filesystem for regular files
    ACFS Use Cases
    • Shared Oracle DB home
    • Other “file system” data
    • External tables, data loads, data extracts
    • BFILES and other data customer chooses not to store in db
    • Log files (consolidates access)
    • Test environments
    • Copy back a previous snapshot after testing
    • Backups
    • Snapshot file system for point-intime backups
    • General purpose local or cluster file system
    • Leverage ASM manageability
Note : Oracle ACFS file systems cannot be used for an Oracle base directory or an Oracle grid infrastructure home that contains the software for Oracle Clusterware, Oracle ASM, Oracle ACFS, and Oracle ADVM components.

You'll have to select the entire external hard drive by the hardware name itself and then apply a new partition table to it under the Partition tab of Disk Utility. Erase and format the drive.

  • Gummiboot error : file system is not a fat efi system partition (ESP)

I am at the point the guide tells me to do some specific work because I got UEFI motherboard
    I did a fat 32 partition (type ef00) of 1G , which is my sda3
    I created a dir /mnt/boot
    I mounted the sda3 there
    I type pacman -S gummiboot
result is File system /boot is not a fat efi system parttition file system
error: command failed to execute correctly
I don't get what I did wrong or what I understood wrong in the wiki. My partition is fat32, I try to install the bootloader gummiboot there but I take that error msg even if it's indeed formated as fat32.
edit: i've run the pacstrap -i /mnt base , everything worked smoothly and fast.

Hopefully you also say this line:
    gummiboot install wrote:Copied /usr/lib/gummiboot/gummibootx64.efi to /boot/EFI/Boot/BOOTX64.EFI.
The \EFI\boot\bootx64.efi spot on the ESP is special. It is the "default" spot, which was originally intended to ensure that a UEFI USB flash drive, or other external media, would be able to boot.  So in those cases, there is obviously not going to be a firmware entry as there potentially are for internal devices.  So with external media, it finds the first ESP it can and automatically boots whatever is placed in that position.  After a while, this feature started to be implemented to the internal devices as well.
This of course has its benefits, but also downsides.  It means that you can actually boot UEFI without making an efibootmgr entry at all.  You can instead set the machine to boot from the device (as though you were booting with the old MBR system) and have things set to UEFI.  It will then, like the external devices, find the first ESP and then boot the \EFI\boot\bootx64.efi, whatever that is. But this also has made it so that different installers will "compete" for that default spot. So although gummiboot copying itself to that spot is in my opinion, convenient, I believe the microsoft installer will also make an attempt to write over this as well.  Hence, it is better (but not essential) to have a firmware entry.
As far as the efibootmgr mounting issue you had, it may be that the info is not in the beginners guide simply because of the recent changes to the efibootmgr binary.  See this section of the UEFI wiki page to understand what happened. Baiscally there is a new system in the kernel for EFI variables, and we have now switched fully.  But I also agree with jasonwryan here that it is also likely that there just simply has to be a balance between providing a nice up to date layout of the installation process in the beginners guide, while not totally regurgitating every single but of information from the rest of the wiki.

  • Analysis Services failing to Start . File system error: Error occurred during the creation of directory

    Hello All,
Posting this problem here and hoping for a solution from the experts in this forum.
When i have restarted the Analysis Services , i see that it has been stopped but never started back. It fails with an error
"The SQL Server Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER) service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
When Checked the Event Viewer i see the following error -
The service cannot be started: The following system error occurred:  The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.  File system error: Error occurred during the creation of directory: '\\?\E:\OLAP\MSSOLAPFactory\OlapData;M:\Test
    Backup'.
I remember changing the BackupDir value of Analysis Services few days back, and i think it could have impacted. Can you please help me how can i change back the BackupDir value and have the server back?
Let me know if you need any more details
    SG

Is this still an issue? If so, I would find msmdsrv.ini and make sure you don't have two folders listed in the BackupDir (or DataDir or TempDir). You'll have to runas Administrator to edit the msmdsrv.ini file and save changes. Once you fix that, it should
    succeed.

  • Disk Utility can't format my external HD - File System Formatter fails

Hi. I have a Freecom 1.5TB external hardrive that is connected by firewire to my Intel iMac. The drive has worked fine for a year and then suddenly the "error 36 code" appeared and nothing else could be saved to the drive.
Disk Utility told me that it could not repair the disk and that I should format it. At this stage the problems start!
DU fails to format the drive with the error "File System Formatter Failed."
I have read various conversations on this error on these forums and followed the instructions but nothing has worked. I have already
    1) Partioned the disk making sure it is "GUID" - then formatted and it still fails
    2) Used MS DOS to do it but that also fails.
I have noticed that the SMART status is "not recognised".
Is there anything else that I can do or am I just doing this wrong? I am thinking that I might be able to do something using the start-up disks but I don't know how to do that and don't want to jepardise my iMac whichis otherwise working fine!
    Any help appreciated.
    Rob

I went crazy last night with the same issue trying to format my Toshiba external drive. I could format as MSDOS but not Mac journaled. I tried the guid partition scheme etc... no luck.  Then I read somewhere that Leopard has an issue with the partitioning schemes. I hooked it up to my macbook on Tiger and whalla, formatted no problem. Then I was able to hook it up to Time Machine and let it reformat it on my Snow Leopard version of OSX on the iMac. I'm on OSX 10.6.8.

  • CR 2010 Report using "File System Data" as source fails in production

Hello, I've recently upgraded my website from VS 2008 with full CR 2008 to VS 2010 using CR 2010 SP1 runtime (x32).  Everything went fine except for one report that uses as a source the "file system data".  It points to a share on a samba drive and it worked great before the upgrade.  After upgrading my development box the report runs fine, but when I deployed it, it fails with the message:
Failed to load database information. Error in File {report name} {D5D84E7F-54DB-4BCA-B3C3-0A169CDC36D7}.rpt: Failed to load database information.
I made sure the websiteu2019s Application Pool identity was set to use credentials of a user who has access to the share.
The data source has the following properties:
    Database DLL:   crbd_filesystem.dll
    File Mask: .
    Include Empty Directories: False
Max Number of Subdirectory Levels: -1
    Starting Directory:
    {FreeBSD server name}\{share name}
This report uses a sub-report which has the same source.  This report works fine from (full) CR 2008 and from the designer inside of VS 2010 works too.  I can run it on my development box (in release and debug modes) which is Windows 7 (x64) using IIS 7.
In production, we donu2019t include the runtime in our application deployment, since we run multiple sites and do updates frequently, so we pre-install (one time) the runtime separately on the server.  We installed the CR 2010 SP1 x32 runtime on our test and development boxes which both are Windows 2003 with IIS6 and made sure they are setup to use .Net 4 and have the Application Pool identity setup to have access to the share.  All my other reports which use ODBC work fine.  Just this one report doesnu2019t and Iu2019m at a loss on how to even begin troubleshooting this.
Is CR 2010 still capable of using u201Cfile system datau201D as a source?  I couldnu2019t find anything on u201Cfile system datau201D with CR 2010.  Though I have seen under Other Sources, it still exist when I created a new report, just to try it out.

Looks like you've found a bug with the CRVS2010 runtime. I looked for the crbd_filesystem.dll in the CRVS2010 install directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86) and it is there. I then opened up the 32 bit MSI and MSM with the MS Orca utility to see if the file is included and it is not.
    Two things we can do:
    1) Add the crdb_filesystem.dll to your install and make sure it installs to the above directory on the runtime computer
    2) I will created a fix request for the issue, however next fix will be Service Pack 2 (ETA, sometime after October) and I doubt this will make it there. So we'd be looking at SP 3 - if there will be one (ETA would be in 2012).
