Verizon G1100 Quantum Gateway router spurious 5Ghz output channel

Anyone seeing this situation? About a week ago I installed a new G1100 Quantum Gateway router without any problems. I have a desktop PC with a 5GHz WiFi adapter card and a Kindle Fire HD which use channel 149 at 5GHz. I also have an IBM Thinkpad using the 2.4GHz channel 11. The Kindle has a WiFi Analyzer app which allows me to view the activity on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Until about two days ago the WiFi analyzer and the Wireless Network Connection display on the desktop PC showed only one signal in the 5GHz band. Since then they both show two identical signals on channel 149 which have the same strength but different identification info. If I change the channel it just shifts both signals together. I spent almost an hour with a tech on live chat yesterday. He "looked" at  the router and asked a lot of questions. He tried some things from his end with no change. He finally suggested doing a factory reset. I tried that today and still no change. I'm beginning too  think I have a defective unit. The spurious output hasn't caused any problems so far but I find it very strange.

Since I posted the original inquiry, I have talked with Verizon tech people twice with no resolution. The last person agreed to send me another router. After a week or so it had not arrived so I inquired and the customer service rep couldn't find a tracking number. A second one was sent out and as luck would have it both arrived within a day or two of each other. So then I had three routers. I put one of them in service and got the same result, two signals on the same channel in the 5Ghz band. I then plugged in the other router but did not connect the FIOS cable to it, just let it sit there by itself. My WiFi scanner on the kindle showed only one signal at 5Ghz for this router and two signals for the router connected to FIOS. I then swapped routers, connecting the single signal router to FIOS and  putting the two signal router aside. The WiFi scanner now showed two signals on the router which previously had only one signal at 5Ghz!!! The two signal router which was now not connected to FIOS still showed two signals also. Apparently, the routers initially have single signals when manufactured but FIOS software programs the device resulting in a different signal spectrum probably due to the security encoding algorithms utilized. By the way, depressing the factory reset button for 10 seconds or more does not return the router signal spectrum to a single signal. Also, I have not seen this characteristic in the 2.4Ghz band while using WEP encoding (my old laptop does not support anything else). The 5Ghz band uses WPA2.

  • G1100 Quantum Gateway Router MOCA LAN Password

Am unable to set the MOCA LAN password on the G1100 to encrypt the MOCA LAN to anything other thatn the default.  It takes the new password but when you apply it it reverts to the original default.  This is a security issue as it is the default password that it published in the instructions, makin the internal LAN MOCA that runs under the Condo vulnerable.  Have been in touch with tech support twice and been told that this will have to be addressed in a new firmware version.   Is this a known issue?  Any way to document this somewhere so that it will get resolved in a future release?  Tech support not able to help and referred my to this board in last session.  I would assume a update request or trouble ticket would need to come from Verizon directly to the manufacturer or the firmare techs, and not from a verizon forum??  Anyone else experience this issue?  Please note that this is on the MOCA LAN *NOT* the MOCA WAN.    My router and ONT are provisioned to ethernet on the WAN side.  Appreciate any insight as to resolution or new firmware relesase dates.

Hello, so Verizon sent me there new router quantum gateway, I have 2 Xbox ones. Upnp is enabled and I have both xbox ones set to static ip. I have one xbox in dmz and the other xbox has all the ports forwarded udp 88, 3074, 53, 500, 3544, 4500, tcp 3074, 53, 80. Both Xbox ones in settings / network show nat type open but in call of duty advanced warfare multiplayer/ xboxlive screen. what ever Xbox one turns on first says nat type open and the other says moderate. Hopefully someone here can help cause I can't find any information anywhere and Verizon technical support has no clue
    Thanks in advanced

  • Verizon Quantum Gateway Router settings issue related to printing and wifi cameras?

    Hi,
I have a Verizon Quantum Gateway router and I just did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro x64 and am downloading and installing my printer drivers.  I connect the printer to the wifi network, 100% sure it is connected and settings are set to wireless lan.  I've had this printer for a while.  Doing the setup - it cannot find the printer.
Related: I bought a 2 pack of Motorola Focus66 wifi cameras to watch my dogs when I'm gone.  I can connect to the cameras when I'm on my ipad's Verizon Wireless LTE connection, but when I'm at home connected to my same Verizon Fios wifi I cannot view cameras.  Yes - the camera and apps support local and remote connections.
I have turned the firewalls all the way off and this does not fix the problems, so I'm believing it is in the router settings.  Any suggestions?

I had a wifi network running at my house with a PC, Laptop, 5 iphones an iPad, and an XBox all running with no issues..  I got the "Upgrade" of the Gateway router and I can connect those devices to the network but WiFi printing is screwed up and Air Printing the apple devices is totally dead..  cannot see the printer.  The customer support are completely a waste..  they suggested I pay for "Premium Support"  At this point I've invested a solid 10-15 hours trying to get this setup and talking to Verizon and its just a mess.

  • You can bridge the Fios Quantum Gateway Router

Long story short. I could not figure out how to disable SIP on the Fios Gateway Router and some my Intercom Video Door station in use by my Control4 uses SIP. The router was causing conflicts and Control4 advised that SIP needs to be disabled on the router. Disabling SIP is a very common answer to people using IP based video conferencing or VOIP phones. That left me with 2 choices. Get the Fios Quantum Gateway to bridge and install my own router where SIP can be disabled, or get rid of Fios and use an ISP that does not require a combo "modem"/router. I didn't want to give up on Fios so easily. My installation was new and I am happy with the uptime and performance. I spent 2 days trying to get my Fios Quantum Gateway to Bridge.   I am writing this up so that someone else doesn't have to live the pain I've lived.  First up, after multple days of looking, their are limited instructions on getting the Fios Quantum Gateway router to bridge. The instructions you can find are for the Actiontec router. It's "almost" the same router but not 1:1. Most step by step guides say that the steps for the Actiontec will work for a FIos Quantum Gateway. That's not inaccurate, but isn't fully accurate either. Their are steps involved in the Acitontec instructions that do not apply to the Fios Quantum Gateway. First - this link is the baseline instructions I found that mostly work: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27666920-How-to-Make-Actiontec-MI424WR-Revision-I-Rev-I-a-Network All credit to the authors that came before me. I didn't discover these steps. I hijacked them and tested them with some revisions for a Fios Quantum Gateway router. I take not credit or responsbility for any action you take based on my post. It "works for me" and continues to work after 24 hours. My please note that I am using Coax/MoCa from the ONT to the Router and that Ethernet was not an option. I am going to repost the steps verbatim, but add some notes along the way where my experience was different in bold. I highly recommend you read the entire thing one time before starting with the step-by-step. You can replace the word Actiontech with Quantum Gateway in the below. Their are subtle differences in termonligy between the Acitontec and the Quantum. If you see a step in the guide and can not follow because your Quantum doesn't have the same display, you must find the nearest equivelement or ignore it entirelly. First get your Router and Actiontec set up like so: ONT -> Coax -> Actiontec Coax Port -> Actiontec LAN Port 1 -> My Selected Router WAN Port. Unplug the cable from the WAN Port, but keep it nearby. I was actually in LAN Port 1 on the Quantum Gateway but I don't think it will actually matter.
Now we need to obtain the WAN MAC address of each Router device.
For the Actiontec go to: Top Menu – Advanced – MAC Cloning – Set Mac of Device – Broadband (Coax). Here you should see the MAC Address, write this down on a paper or something. This is critical. You need to do this. Without the clone, I was unable to bridge. Note that I did not have to STAY cloned. I just had to clone until the lease expired even though I believe I had released the IP successfully. For your own router: You need to look this up yourself. The ASUS RT-N56U (w/ custom firmware) has a spot that just displays my WAN MAC address for me. I'm using an EdgeRouter from Unfi. Nobody can help you here except the forums for the router you are using because how you do this is different from router to router (generally speaking.)
Once you have both of these pieces of information, it is time to start.
    1. Hardware Reset Actiontec Router I wouldn't do this. I didn't. I would actually save a copy of the configuration you have on the router before going any further, in case you have to hardware reset and restore your router.
    2. Log into Router using [ admin/password ].
    3. Change admin login info and set a different password. There should be a link on the side.
    4. Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Network (Home/Office) – Settings – IP Address – Setto 192.168.x.1 where x is not used on your LAN – Apply
*NOTE*: Upon changing the default gateway IP of the Actiontec from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.x.1, you will need to [ ipconfig /release ] and [ ipconfig /renew ] from Command Prompt, so your computer can quickly reconnect to the Actiontec. I changed this to 192.168.0.5 because my DHCP starts at 50. The Fios default is 192.168.0.1 and not .1.1.
    5. Log back in to Actiontec router with new IP and new password you previously set.
    6. Top Menu – Wireless Settings – Side Menu – Basic Security Settings – Wireless Off – Apply 7. Top Menu – Firewall Settings – Side Menu – General – Minimum – Apply
    8. Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Advanced 9. Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Broadband (Coax) – Settings – Release – Apply
*NOTE*: If your IP address is not released properly you will need to wait 2 hours for your lease to expire or you’ll need to call Verizon Tech and get them to restart your system.
    10. Broadband (Coax) – Settings – IP Distribution – Disable – Apply 11. Broadband (Coax) – Settings – DNS Server – No DNS Server – Apply 12. Broadband (Coax) – Settings – IP Address – No IP Address – Apply
    13. Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Network (Home/Office) – Settings – IP Distribution – Disable – Apply 14. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – DNS Server – No DNS Server – Apply 15. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – UNcheck Box to Left of Wireless – Apply
*NOTE*: The old guide will tell you to uncheck the box to the left of “Coax” here. Unfortunately, in the Rev. I, Ethernet and Coax are stuck together as “Ethernet/Coax” and you can’t split the two. If you uncheck the box to the left of “Ethernet/Coax”, you will lose connection with the Actiontec Router and you will be forced to hard reset and start all over again.
    16. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – Check Box to Left of Broadband (Coax) – Apply 17. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – Check STP Box to Right of Broadband(Coax) – Apply The Quantum Gateway didn't have an STP box to uncheck. I ignored this step with no adverse effects. 18. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – Network – Broadband Connection – Apply
    19. Top Menu – Advanced – MAC Cloning – Set Mac of Device – Broadband (Coax) Using the information you gathered at the beginning: a. Set the WAN MAC of your selected Router to the MAC address listed here. b. Set the Address here to the WAN MAC of your selected router that will be connected to the Actiontec to avoid conflicts.
    20. Plug the cable from Actiontec LAN Port 1 to your Routers WAN Port. Your router should be getting a WAN IP from Verizon. Test to make sure your WAN is established and that you can connect onto the internet, browse pages. Run a speed test to make sure everything is peachy.
*NOTE*: If your router did not get a WAN IP, you have a problem. I would recommend trying to re-trace your steps to see if you missed anything or just start all over and hard reset. :\
    21. If everything worked out fine, connect a cable from your Router’s LAN Port 4 to the Actiontec LAN port 4. Again, I was using Port 1. But it shouldn't matter. I haven't tried other ports.
    22. Power cycle your STB if you wish. You should see your STB show up in your DHCP list and it should be getting VOD/Widgets. This wasn't neccessary for me as I don't use Verizion TV service. Your millage may very. -V

NOTE: about bridging the Quantum Gateway G1100 Information about this is in DSLReports.com - Verizon FiOS FAQ.  SEE: Verizon Online FiOS FAQ -> 3.2 Moca -> Can I get an ethernet connection in a room with only coax? There is a list of instructions for bridging routers, but the Verizon Quantum Gateway is not included there. Follow down the instructions and at step 2.5 here is added information that is not in the FAQ yet.
    Instruction 2.5...
2.5a) The Verizon Quantum Gateway G1100 is slightly different from the Actiontec MI424wr. If your primary router's broadband connection is provisioned over coax, you need to disable the remote router's coax WAN connection to prevent it from attempting to become the primary router. If your broadband connection from the ONT to your primary router is ethernet, this step may be unnecessary.
Click on the MY NETWORK icon at the top.
Select NETWORK CONNECTIONS from the menu on the left.
If you’re using the Verizon Quantum Gateway G1100 as the remote router the Network Connections panel will show Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax) instead of Broadband Connection (coax).
    Click on Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax)
The next panel displays Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax) Properties as its title. There is a Disable button at the top of the panel. There is also a Settings button at the bottom of the panel. You will come back to the Disable button.
    Click on the Settings button.
The next panel displays the same title as the prior panel: Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax) Properties
In the middle of the panel next to the heading Enable/Disable Coax Link: there is a button labeled Disable.
    Click on Disable.
Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the panel.
You will be taken to the Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax) Properties panel that you saw before.
At the top of this screen there is a button labeled Disable
    Click on Disable
Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the screen.

  • FiOS Quantum Gateway Router - Intermittent Dropped Connections

I just got this router and incredibly disappointed!! I had the Arcotec.. Excuse my spelling and was having intermittent problems with that but this new a Gateway is herendous!!! I can't believe they charge you a 199 for this. Wifi signal lost constantly. Called tech support.. Now they want to charge me 75 bucks for an extender that they say will help.. Optimum looking better all the time!! Very frustrated.

I am experiencing the exact same issue. My issue also started after i upgraded to their 50/50 plan and swapped out my Actiontech M42xxx for the Quantum Gateway Router. They had me do the following and i am still having the issue. 1. disconnect the coaxial cable and the power from the router2. Reset the fios box in my garage by unscrewing the battery power and removing the battery3. Replaced the router (Verizon did this and the replacement was another Quantum Gateway)4. Replaced the box in my garage (Verizon did this)keleko68 wrote:
Hi All, I upgraded my FiOS service a couple of weeks ago to the Quantum 50/50 service and bought the Quantum Gateway/router (model# FiOS-G1100). I used to use the Actiontec router (model# MI424WR, Rev. I). I've been having issues probably for months with intermittent or dropped connections on both wired and wireless connections. Fast forward to the beginning of December. I called tech support enough to the point of them sending a tech out to look at it. My ONT was old, and he replaced it. I had hoped that this was the issue, but it wasn't. The drop-offs continued. I again hoped the upgrade in service and router would also fix the issue. Nope... didn't. This 'latest, most powerful' router only has two lights on it, one for wireless signal and the other that looks like a globe. The router sits on my desk, so I can watch the lights.  While I am surfing around, the globe light will suddenly flash for about 5-10 seconds. While this is happening, my connection drops/stops, and then resumes a couple of seconds after the globe light stops blinking. I also noticed that the globe light will turn red once in a while, but not nearly as often as the blinking white does. It's not really consistent as to how long I can be online before the connection starts dropping. I haven't honestly watched it for a long period of time (in other words, I don't know if it's still doing it while I'm not at the computer). I just notice it while I'm trying to use the connection. Once the router starts disconnecting, it can happen as often as every few minutes. VERY annoying. My setup is:2 Mac laptops (one used wirelessly and one used wired connected to a display)1 Apple TV (wired)1 Apple Airport Express (wired)1 printer (wired) I don't have any cordless phones, powerline adapters, wifi extenders, or other electronics that might be messing with the signal. I use VPN software but haven't noticed a difference with it on or off (I think). Any thoughts as to what this might be or where to look? Thanks in advance.       I am still having the issue. there is obviously an issue and either Verizon knows about it and doesn't want to say they know there is an issue and fix it, or they are too dumb to take the time to find out. Each time i call i give them detailed information on the issue and ask them to check their knowledgebase if its listed as a know issue and they keep saying it's not. The issue happened again tonight, 1/8/15. at first my laptop dropped Internet connection while i was surfing. then i checked my other wi-fi devices and they all lost connection. i then went and checked my wired devices and they too lost connection. I look at the router and this time both the Globe Internet and the Wi-Fi lights were solid white. i looked at the Internet Ethernet light and the bottom light was green. I could have resolved the issue by unplugging the router and plug it in back, but instead i called Verizon so they could see the issue. 10 minutes into the Verizon call queue the Globe Internet light changed from solid white to solid red. 5 minutes later i finally got to speak to a tech. at first he said the box in my garage wasn't connecting to the router and asked me to disconnect the coaxial cable and the power and, according to him, he sent some command and instructed me to connect the coaxial cable and power the router back on. I did that and then the issue went away.I told him the rootcause of the issue was not identified and fixed and the issue would occur again and i needed him to alert engineering or product development about the issue. i then told him its a know issue with the router and he should do a google with "Verizon Quantum Gateway dropping connection" and he would see how many people are having the same issue. I told him Verizon need to take their heads out their A*%%%$ and spend some time and investigate and resolve the issue. Me

  • Samsung WiFi printer can't connect to new Quantum Gateway router?!

We recently replaced our 3-year-old router with the latest Quantum Gateway router and upgraded fios speed from 25/25 to 50/50.
Every device (PC, phones, tablets, and TV) was able to connect to the new network.  BUT, our Samsung Wifi printer (M283x seriers) cannot connect at all.  With the older router, we were able to access the printer thru Wifi network from two different PCs..
We did not relocate the router and we did not move the printer, so singal strength was not the issue.  We even uninstalled and then re-install printer driver to PC to set up the network again.  Tried every connecting option that Samsung had suggested, but everything failed.
We also tried to log in to Router Admin site to add this printer, didn't work.  WPS was turned on and we couldn't figure out why this new network doesn't add the printer. This router did not like our printer.
One funny thing was that if we turned OFF all the security settings, the router allowed this device to connect to WiFi.
Can anyone help?  Thanks a lot!

I have a solution for you.  After upgrading to the Quantum Gateway last week, My Samsung 2835 printer had the same problem. It turns out that the printer doesn't play well with the Quantum Gateway when the Samsung "Wi-Fi Direct" function is enabled.  All you have to do is log in to the printer web page. Then, under Settings--> Network Settings--> Wi-Fi Direct... Turn Wi-Fi Direct off using the drop down menu.  Hit "Apply", then power cycle the printer. After this you can use WPS or manually configure the printer and it will connect right away.  Thank the Verizon technical guy J.W.  for figuring this one out by capturing the Wi-Fi traffic between the Gateway and printer.

Figures.. I'm just now seeing info on the "new" Quantum Internet Router which triggered me to do some web research and low and behold, Verizon had a half price "promo" sale, but never told me about it! No email, no notice, etc.. Until the "promo" was over.. Bottom line I would of upgraded a second time buying their new router but being a longterm customer and buying the last (rev I) Advanced router about a year ago, I refuse to pay $199.00 for a second upgrade to a wireless router in less than two years.. You know, I just upgraded to a Quantum TV too in December and no one mention or offered the "Quantum" Internet at the same time.. And the DVR playback function takes 20-30 seconds for the recorded video to start playing.. UGH!
Guess I'll be buying a 3rd party router with similar features as the Gateway for a lot less to fix what the (rev I) upgrade never really corrected and based on the faults of the Quantum TV DVR faults, looks to now be the better and lower cost option to do in order to get more reliability and stability in watching & managing Recorded Video and increased Wireless Internet Performance.. Ironically I plugged in my ole' reliable Linksys WGT54 which I used for years with no performance issues and it has better wireless stream performance that the Verizon Actiontec rev I wireless router..

I ordered the new Quantum Gateway Router under the special promotion (reduced price of $99.99. The website specifically said in the ad that "your new router will have a shipping and handling charge of $5.99". When I placed the order the shipping and handling charge was $9.99 ($5.00 more that advertised. Has anyone else had this problem?

I think everyone who has ordered this router has seen this issue.
    Have you tried calling Verizon?

  • Fios quantum gateway router problem

Hello, when I connect my coaxial cable and power adaptor to my old verizon mi424wr router, the internet works fine. But when I connect my coxial cable and the power adapter that came with the fios quantum gateway router, the internet doesn't work. On the router, the internet icon keeps blinking white for about a minute, then it just becomes a solid non-blinking red internet icon. Assisstance would be greatly appreciated.

Your problem may be that you didn't release your WAN IP address before switching routers.  It's necessary to do so.
To release your IP address you could power off the new router, wait 2 hours, or overnight if that's more convenient, and then power the router back on.
Or to release the IP address more quickly, with the Actionec in place, follow the steps in this link:
    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/How-am-I-able-to-change-my-ip-address/m-p/703336#M47733
After releasing your WAN IP, wait about 10 minutes and then fire up the Quantum router.  You should have a new WAN IP address and be connected back to the Internet.

    Hello.
After installing my new quantum gateway router, I have had nothign but problems.  The router will connect to the laptops and phones very reliably, but it never has a stable connection with either a ROKU 3 or Amazon Fire STick int he same room.  I can watch the connection connect and disconnect over and over.
Range is not a problem, ans sometimes the connection will hold so long as the device is in use.  But, if I come back the next morning it is anybody's guess whether my streaming devices will connect.
I have read many problems and complaints regarding this issue with this router.  Any suggestions?

im having the same problems man. I Cant even connect any device wirelessly to the new quantum router. I always get dns isnt resolving xbox server names for the x1. Plz someone tell us how to fix this.i tried basically EVERYTHING. port forwaring, static ip, changing the compatibility mode and everything but still no change. Is the router preset with a setting that restricts online connectivity? but it works only when its wired. Someone please help

  • Quantum Gateway Router - Local DNS not working

I just installed the Quantum Gateway Router, and I can't seem to get local DNS (i.e. user defined DNS entries) to work correctly.   I'm able to make user-defined entries under Advanced->DNS Server, but the when I attempt to ping the entries, from any machine on my LAN/WLAN, the entries are not resolved.   Has anyone else run into this problem?

That is correct.  that would be the address for the dns resolver that is handed out for dhcp connections.
You may want to check that your router is actually getting dns server addresses for use with it's dhcp connection from the wan.
    Log into the router
    select My Network
    Select Network Connections
    select Network (home/office)
Halfway down the page see the dns server line
if it says no dns server then it should default to the dns servers provided the wan connection.
you can override the values here by
selecting the drop down value use the following dns servers
then you can 2 values in the fields that appear - typically opendns or google servers.
To see the dns servers that came with the wan dhcp connection
    select My Network
    Select Network Connections
    Select broadband connection
halfway down the page are the dns values

  • Any reason I shouldn't upgrade to Quantum Gateway router?

This may sound like a dumb question, but I've been bitten before by upgrading software or equipment and missed some gotcha and ended up worse off.
Problem I want to solve is slow/weak internet (old home with thick lath and plaster walls, and lots of walls!).
What I have now is Router Westell A90-9100EM-10, 25/25 internet. Wireless devices include iphone 5/ipad and iPad mini (iPads support wireless N), Amazon FireTV and a wireless HP printer. Streaming music sometimes stutters, and I haven't yet tried to stream video (just got the FireTv yesterday). No game players here, and not likely more than streaming plus an iOS device working concurrently. (Probably tmi, but in case anything is relevant, wdik?)
I'm thinking moving to Quantum Gateway should improve things (noticed the other N capable router, but price not much less). Any reason I wouldn't want to do this? Thank you in advance.
    Solved!

try buying 1 or more old verizon on router/s on ebay and coax connect them where you have weak signal.  After bridging it to your main router you will have a cheap extender in place with the added capability of 4 hard wired ports.

  • Do I have to return my old router if I purchased a G1100 Quantum Gateway?

I purchased a G1100 gateway from VZ and the range is terrible compared to my old MI424WR.
I want to use the old one as a bridge to boost signal in now weak and dead areas I never had before.
Since the price of my internet/phone bundle stays the same even though I purchased an "accessory" from VZ, why must I return it?

They want the old one back, or pay 99.99 pls tax for it. I don't understand, as my double play internet/phone plan details show router included in monthly service price no additional charge.
I spent a half hour with a rep on the phone, explained the G1100 problem, that it is a common complaint, and since I am already paying for the old router as part of my service plan, how can I be required to return it just because I paid for the new one and own it? Had I not purchased the new one, I would not have to return the old one. Logic please?
They denied knowing of any problems with the G1100, and could offer no reason why I need to return, other than the warning to send it back, or I WILL be billed for it. "My screen says you have to send it back" is not a reason!
I dislike the Verizon culture, as new customers are given great discounts and plans, but loyal long term ones are bullied with huge contract price increases and foolishness like this. Customer retention is not a priority to them, and they don't care if you stay, or go.
After my contract expires, I'm leaving for good. In fact, I regret renewing it in the first place.
