Verizon Max?

Any plans to bring the Verizon Max program back? I was told it was discontinued.

One more question... Do you know if the 6 gig on the Max plan is good for as long as you are on it, or if it is a promo that ends in a year or something?
Thanks for the responses.

  • Verizon Max Plan

I'm about to call it quits with Verizon after 4 years with a family plan of 5 lines...
December of 2013 I was looking to upgrade my phone but was grandfathered into the unlimited data plan.   I talked to two representatives on the phone and one in a store about what my options were if I wanted to keep my data and was told by all that either I would have to buy a new phone at full price or switch to a 2gb plan for $30 a month.  After a lot of hesitation, I finally got into a 2gb plan and just dealt with it.
In February my sister in law who was on my family plan was in the same situation with an unlimited data plan and wanted to upgrade her phone.  The first person she talked to quickly told her about the Verizon Max plan where people who had an unlimited plan could upgrade there phones and get a 6gb plan for the same $30 a month.  She liked that compromise and went with the plan.
I found out about that and did some research and found that that exact plan was being offered while I was going through my upgrade process.  I called VZW customer support and asked if I could get on that plan as I was in the EXACT same situation when I was upgrading but was never told/offered the Verizon Max plan.  The customer service rep said I was ineligible because I was outside of the window where they could make changes to plans.  She told me that I probably wasn't offered the plan because I didn't use hardly any data in the previous year.  I explained to her that I was in an area that wasn't supported by Verizon Data (only 1x was available, no 3g or LTE) and didn't have an opportunity to even use the data but stayed with Verizon for that year because I had liked the unlimited data and had good experiences with VZW so far.  After a bit of back and forth, she was not budging as I didn't qualify for the upgrade because it was too late to make changes and that I didn't use data anyway, so what did it matter.
Now I have a plan 1/3 the size of my sister in law for the same price because I apparently didn't talk to well informed VZW employees or, more of what I'm thinking the problem is, I'm not as attractive as my sister in law and have to find out for myself the deals that Verizon is offering instead of having them told to me.
Either way, unless we can come up with some sort of solution for how VZW is going to treat their customers fairly, I'll be leaving them for another provider...
C'mon Verizon, step up your game and correct this.

I realize that the plan is only offered when switching from unlimited data to a tiered data plan.  That is the reason I am here now is because I switched from an unlimited data plan to a tiered data plan while this deal was being offered but was never told by the 3 Verizon employees about the Max plan.
I was hoping that we could work something out but it seems all I'm going to get is an apology for not offering the plan when I was eligible and for not being able to do anything to fix that.
I'll be cancelling my service with you in hopes of finding another provider that appreciates a loyal customer who pays their $250+ bill on time each month.

  • Do they still offer the 6gb Verizon Max Plan for exsisting unlimited customers?

I'm thinking about upgrading and was wondering if Verizon still offers the 6gb Verizon Max Plan? I'm currently grandfathered on the unlimited data plan.

I had to upgrade from my unlimited plan to get a new phone on August 21, 2014.  Yes, they still were offering the Max plan.  I got 6GB of data for $30 per month, BUT I lost my ability to turn on my 'mobile hotspot' as needed and I also lost my 20% discount on my data plan when I changed.  I think there is a higher Max plan with 8GB of data and then you might be able to add the hotspot to it, but I never got a definitive answer while 'chatting' on my PC with a Rep.  I plan on actually calling Verizon sometime to see what the deal really is.  I only need the hotspot while traveling on vacation a few times a year.  They mentioned switching back and forth from the 6 GB to the 8 GB of data plan, but I wasn't convinced by the rep I was chatting with. that would work for me because the 8GB would be prorated and I might go over the limit and actually have to pay even more.

  • Plan to upgrade phone and plan how do the verizon max plan works

When I try to upgrade on line, when I get to the plan option the Verizon max plan is not there!

The max plan is for unlimited data people that wish to upgrade. Do you currently have unlimited data? Also I think you have to call for that plan.

  • Verizon Max Data Plans are not a deal

I just read about the Olive Branch Verizon has extended to us obstinate unlimited data plan holders.
The Max Data Plans are a weed dressed up to look like an Olive Branch.
I did the math on my unlimited nill vs a Max Bill with Edge phones.   Currently I pay $201.75 for two lines + unlimited data.
I have an S4, so I don't need a new phone,  but if I did I would go Note 3.  My wife has an iPhone 5 64gb, so a 5s 64gb would be a good choice.
After crunching the numbers and entering Edge would go up to 221.68 per month.   That's right up not down.
Knowing this, why would I give up unlimited
    data?

    Michael,
I am so tired of reading these Verizon forums, and seeing all these people who have been victimized by losing their unlimited data become Verizon's biggest defenders. Misery truly loves company. I don't care what they say, be it saving a few bucks for losing unlimited data (yet ignoring opportunity costs in keeping unlimited data OR even leveraging the unlimited data in other ways by utilizing "assumption of liability"), or praying for this magical day of July, 2014 when we're all supposed to lose unlimited data (which is complete and utter nonsense, forget speculation.) I thought that Verizon was supposed to be the one providing us a service, and not the other way around...though I suppose the Stockholm Syndrome folks enjoy that, I guess.
Problem is there doesn't appear to be many people who have unlimited data offering information that would help people like us KEEP unlimited data; all it is are these people inundating these forums with misinformation and misery about losing unlimited data.
So I will just tell you what I did to upgrade and hope that points you in the right direction.
Recently, I did use the Device Payment Plan (different from Edge, which sounds like utter garbage) to get a Note 2. 700 divided by 12 plus $24 total. I figured why not; anything to get off this Samsung Droid Charge. Now, I am utilizing the alternate upgrade method, which allows me to upgrade a basic phone in my plan and switch that phone to the line with the Note 2, which I then will give the Note 2 to the wife, who also has an unlimited data plan. I probably should have done this earlier, but I initially thought it'd be too much work. However, after I did the math, even after activation fees and such, I still get a better phone at a better price than if I Device Payment Plan'ed it.
I will let you know how it goes...I have three unlimited data plans that I can do a "transfer only" to get the hot new phones, and I plan on using anyone of them. And despite what some of you Verizon apologists say, I do not lose unlimited data when I transfer an upgrade to another line, which apparently, I can do THREE times...
I am just sick and tired of seeing these people inundate folks with such bad information. Since this is a peer-to-peer forum where Verizon customers help each other, I figure let me help my fellow Verizon customers SAVE their unlimited data and also help lead in the ignoring of these bitter haters who just want other people to be miserable by having you lose your unlimited data plan.

  • Why was I never offered Verizon Max 6gb (w/o edge) when I upgraded my phone from my unlimited data plan?

I upgraded my phone with a new 2yr activation in Jan 2014.  I was not offered the 6gb plan without "going edge" that many unlimited data plan customers got when they switched over.  I too had unlimited data and was grandfathered.  Is this because that promotion wasn't active yet?  I talked to my coworker who said she got hers upgraded from unlimited in september 2014 and was offered 6gigs for 30 bucks, and she's not on the edge plan. She upgraded at Target. I wonder if that makes a difference.  I am currently paying for 2 gigs at 30 bucks a month.

Mas5723, thank you so much for reaching out to us. I want to make sure that are you on the best fit plan for your monthly data usage. How has the 2GB data plan been working out for your usage? Are you seeing any kind of overages on the account? Please keep us posted.

  • Why can't Verizon honor what many reps have offered?

We were going to leave Verizon to do Sprints Unlimited for life, so we called to see how much out ETF would cost. The rep said to keep us with verizon she would offer us the verizon max plan even though we didn't have unlimited data. So we decided yes, we called back talked to another rep who said we needed to fill out inactive pricing request and they would change it. So we went ahead and ordered the phones. We call the next day and a rep tells us it was approved and we just need to call when we activate our phones and they will swap it over. So we get one phone in, call to get our data swapped over and we get told we can't because everything get denied. So they sent in another request. The rep was going to call in two days telling us if it got approved. Of course all i got was a measly text from the guy saying it had been denied ( a text really? how cowardly verizon, shame on you!) So I call verizon again the lady says she can see in the notes where it was promised many times (and I recorded the conversations so they can't deny it) but there is nothing she can do we can't get it. Thanks verizon for lying to us! Any other company that makes a mistake, owns up, and honors what their company rep offered. I guess Verizon is the exception. What is the point of having reps if Verizon doesn't back what they say? This just shows Verizon is all in for the money and they will continuously lie to their customers to make an extra buck. How disappointing!

Cancel everything via just porting out to Sprint. They will close your accounts with verizon via the port request.
Sprint is also offering a $100 trade in for your old devices when you sign up with them
Never trust verizon in anything they promise. You are better off porting out to Sprint.
Wait for the customer service response to your post here with "why would you want to leave us, we love you and want you to stay with our family" then a link to show how much money you will be taken for.
    Good Luck

  • Why does Verizon Penalize Long-time Customers?

I started out as a Alltel customer in 2004 and became Verizon during the merger.  I had a pretty nice plan at 500mins with unlimited text and data.  When Verizon started their More Everything Plans, they started alienating those of us who still had unlimited plans.  Not only are the plans more expensive than the Alltel plan I have (by about $10 - $15 for a decent plan), but if you didn't sign up for it, you could no longer upgrade at the promotional price and had to pay full price for your phone.
The compromise to this was Verizon Max.  This gave customers a way to keep a fairly large amount of data (6GB) and still keep their plan price low.  However, even this plan penalizes customers:
         - You can't share the data
         - You can't use your device as a hotspot, even though you have plenty of data to use
This works just fine, until you decide to add devices to your plan.  So here's my situation:
I'm sitting pretty at about $90 per month (before taxes, add-ons, discount) on the Max plan.  All is well until I see that they started selling the Galaxy Gear S.  I call Verizon and they tell me I need to upgrade to the More Everything Plan, which is about $120 before taxes for 10GB (they give you 10GB instead of 6GB).  Then you pay $5 per month to add the watch to your plan.  All this for a total of $125 a month - a permanent difference of $30.
Obviously I don't want to spend that much more money on my plan, so I ask what else they can do.  They said the only other thing they can do is add the device as a separate line with its own data plan and phone number.  Since the only plan you can buy from Big Red is More Everything, that comes out to about  $25 before taxes.  That's only a $5 difference between that and More Everything, so I may as well use More Everything so I can keep the same number and just share data.
My point is, either way, I will have to pay at least $25 just to enjoy the benefits of owning a new device.  For context, before More Everything, new lines only cost $10 and you just paid for the device and that was that - easy.  $10 is something I can handle - $15 is pushing it.  But $25 more a month??
It's ridiculous I have to jump through all these hoops just to enjoy new devices and good service.  As a customer of 10yrs, there's absolutely nothing Customer Care is even able to do for me (I was on the phone with them for over an hour) and their so-called loyalty plans are just crippled versions of the fully-priced plans.  I just want to buy the stupid watch, add it to my plan for a low price, and keep it moving.
There's no benefit to being a long time customer at Verizon, so I'm going to start looking at other companies that take better care of their loyal customers. I'd love to stay with Verizon, but there's obviously no love for me.

Hi Lasina, thank you for reaching out.
I didn’t get a new number, but I was presented with the full paperwork.
I’m not sure how you can restore my trust in Verizon.  First of all, they blew me off in the store – told me I needed to contact customer support.  My expectation was that speaking to someone in the store was one of the customer service options.
Once the Target employee listened to my needs, he actually got me to upgrade my phone.  When I called with questions regarding the $40 I was charged to activate the new phone.  After asking to speak to a supervisor, I was put on hold, and the agent came back to me with this stupid option about how they’d refund $20 and then give me $2/month to make up the difference.
At this point, I asked about my cancellation options – since I called immediately when I got the bill.  I was told I was 3 days past the opportunity to cancel my contract altogether – unless I want to fork over $350.
I am open to whatever options you have to attempt to restore my faith in Verizon, but my Customer Service experience so far isn’t promising.
    What do you propose?

  • Non-Corporate Verizon Stores shouldn't exist...

Background: I have had Verizon since 2010. I upgraded to an iPhone 4 in February of 2012 at my local "Verizon" store no problem. I am the type of customer that gets a phone on a two year contract and keeps it to avoid extra charges because, frankly, I'm on a budget. I also have cut down my bill as much as possible by going with the 450 minutes and eliminating text (charge per text) but I kept my grandfathered unlimited data because I am constantly on the internet. I went back to the same store today to upgrade my old iPhone to a LG G2 that I have been eye-ing online.
I go into the store and ask the person working to tell me exactly how much it would be to upgrade my iPhone to an LG G2 today. She put my information into the computer and disregarded my question, but instead asked me how much data I use. I told her I wasn't sure, and she assured me that I wasn't even using 1GB and that I should change my data plan. I insisted that I wanted to keep my unlimited data plan to avoid overage charges when she informed me that if I wanted to upgrade ever, at all, I would have to change my data plan. She proceeded to tell me that it wouldn't matter if I decided to do it now, but in June of this year, I would be forced to change my data plan, as Verizon was getting rid of "unlimited" data. I was a little confused at this point, and I asked her again to tell me how much money it would cost for me to upgrade today to an LG G2 - so she scanned one in a box and told me it was going to be $150 for the phone alone. I told her I had been studying up on Verizon phone prices and she was incorrect, and Verizon advertises the LG G2 at $50 on their website. I even used my old cracked iPhone to show her on the official website the LG G2 priced at $50 when she stopped me and informed me that the store I was in, and have visited multiple times, was not a true Verizon store, but a franchise and that she could not uphold the official Verizon prices, and that if I wanted the phone in that store at that moment, I was going to pay $150 for it.
Why would a Verizon store be able to take my money for payment, see all the information about my billing statements, my social security number and what-not, and not tell me that they are some sort of "knock-off" Verizon store? If they're good enough to take my money, they should be good enough to uphold Verizon prices and policies, and it's a shame that Verizon lets this happen. I am very seriously considering switching carriers at my own expense over this.
Why do non-corporate stores exist? Can I never have the LG G2 with unlimited data?

Alright, let's clear a few things up.
First, the person in the store was not correct, you can indeed upgrade your phone and keep your unlimited data plan, however you may not like how you have to do it. To keep your unlimited data you'd need to pay full retail price, and not renew your 2 year contract. This phone at full retail price on Verizon's website is going for $499.99.
If you pay the $50 you are purchasing this phone and getting a 2 year contract in which case, you will need to get rid of your unlimited data, you likely pay $29.99 for your unlimited data, minus any corporate discounts, you seem to be on an older nationwide plan, so you could keep your nationwide calling plan instead of going to one of the new "More Everything" plans, and simply choose a tiered data package. They start at $30 for 2GB of data, which sounds like it would be plenty for you. If you receive any corporate discounts though, tiered data plans do not qualify for the discount unless they are priced at $50 or greater. So even though the actual data plans are about the same price, your bill could possibly go up a few dollars.
Finally, the rumor of Verizon taking Unlimited data way is just that, a rumor. Nothing that store employee says makes it anything more than a rumor. Verizon has not announced anything, and store personnel are usually one of the last few in the company to find out about any plan changes, especially in this case seeing as she does not work for Verizon.
And let's put aside the fact that Verizon has told all of its unlimited data subscribers they can keep unlimited data if they pay full retail price, they didn't put an expiration on that offer, so I personally am not concerned about losing my unlimited data plan
    *edit*
Verizon also has a couple data plans for unlimited data subscribers called "Verizon Max" if you go to a corporate store, they may be able to get you on one of those plans and upgrade you at contract renewal pricing, they start at 6 GB for $30, or 8 GB with tethering for $50.

  • Have you been successful porting your number and keeping unlimited data?

Hi , I am trying to save money by getting rid of my texting plan($20) and having Google Voice as my SMS provider. I want to keep my number so I will port my number to GV. For a 1-time fee of $20. The Problem is that during the process some people lose their UNLIMITED DATA package. I, of course don't want this to happen. I have searched the interwebs and found that this forum had the good information on it.

See post # 3 and # 85 for detailed instructions. I was in the process of doing it but Google Wallet denied my transaction because I needed to verify my account. This process takes 3 days. So I will wait and try again. I would like to know if the rest of the verizon community has been succesful or has regretted doing this.
I feel that this process should work and would like to keep this discussion open so other people can do the same. We all know sms and voice mins are cheap and carriers are just milking money from data plans.
PS. I felt # 85 was really straight forward
Joined the community to thank the OP - and to add in another success story. Before I start my 'experience share', I think its pertinent to mention that I have the Galaxy S4 [Android]
Started the GV Port on Monday at about 3PM. Provided GV with personal details, phone number, billing PIN (you can set one up or change your current PIN on the VZW website after logging on to your account) and my account number (excluded the -00001 after my account number as suggested by other posters on this thread). Google charged me $20 to complete the port.
On Tuesday morning, approximately at about 11AM, I logged into my VZW account and requested a new number (VZW's website states that this process is free if done online). At this time, my GV Port status showed "Number Change Pending". Once the new number was assigned to me by VZW (the number is issued instantly), I had to turn my phone off and wait a few minutes before turning it back on. When I turned my phone back on, it showed that the new number was active (no VZW notifications - just tried a test call from my landline).
Almost 24 Hours down to the minute (so at about 3PM on Tuesday), I got an email from GV stating that my port was complete. On the GV website, I then added in my new number (under Settings>Phones), and set all calls (and texts) to forward to my new number. GV walked me through a couple of programming steps - and confirmed that my GV calls would be forwarded to my new VZW number. Please note that if you want GV to pick up your VM's, then you will need to activate Google voicemail on the GV website (Settings>Phones). Else, VZW voicemail will end up picking up your calls - and a message like "this user has a VM box that has not been set up" will play.
I also opened up the GV app on my phone and changed the settings to "Make all calls through Google Voice". Also, I turned off the 'Messaging' app, and set the GV app as the default app for handling all texts.
As of now, I can make and receive calls via the setup described above. Folks receiving calls from me see my GV number on their displays (so no need to update folks with my new number), and when I receive calls on my GV number, my VZW phone displays the number of the person trying to reach me (so no updating my contacts list). Low priced international calls, desktop-based texting, unlimited storage of texts/VM's/call-logs, here I come!
My texts arent working yet, but GV states that it takes about 3 days before texting becomes active. When it does, I'm hoping that all texts will be routed via the GV app (I'm fairly certain that it will)
    Other things to note:
Banking Apps: Some banking apps that require verification codes to be sent via text might stop working. I just got an email from BOFA this morning asking me to reverify my mobile number. Need to fix this once GV texting becomes active
Messaging: Existing texts on your device cannot be backed up/imported into GV. That said, Google Play has a couple of free apps that backup your entire message archive under a separate label within your Gmail account
Hope this helps someone else out there in taking the plunge. Seems like the process is fairly straightforward unless you decide to skip some steps or if you are impatient and try to change things too quickly (I would really urge you against skipping steps, hurrying things up, etc. GV is completely automated, and getting "support" is almost impossible).
    All the best!"

You won't lose your unlimited data as long as your account stays active and you don't purchase a subsidized phone. I just did this yesterday and it took just a few minutes over 24 hours to port my number over to GV. I still have unlimited data. I pretty much followed the instructions you have above except I waited about 7 hours to get a new number from VZW just to make sure there were no hiccups. VZW says you may get some overages if you change your number immediately as opposed to on the first day of your billing cycle because they prorate your minutes and texts used. Luckily I have unlimited everything so it didn't make a difference for me. I'm planning on going over to T-Mobile. My home is a dead zone for cell phones and I always have a weak signal and sometimes don't get my calls. I figure if I'm going to pay for an unsubsidized phone, I might as well go with a company that has wifi calling and a cheaper unlimited plan. I pay $94/mo before taxes with VZW; I'll only be paying $59.50 with T-Mobile for the same plan with 2.5 GB tethering included. T-Mobile here in LA is pretty good and even if I don't get LTE, I can fall back on their HSPA+ network, which is way better than VZW's crippled 3G network. No regrets porting over. The ONLY way I'll stay with VZW is if they allow me to keep my unlimited data (not going to do Verizon Max) and get a subsidized phone. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW VERIZON?

  • Data discount denied

I am writing because I am being denied a 12% employee discount on data on one of the lines of my plan.  I am getting an 8% discount on the main access charges, but I should be getting an additional 12% discount on the data charges for one line as well.  I was getting the discount previously but it was abruptly dropped without notification. I am told by reps that this is “probably” due to the fact that the line that was getting this discount  is already getting a bonus feature of 6 gb plan at $30/ mo. (the Verizon Max plan) and this is already considered a “good deal.” That should not matter; the 12% discount is an employee discount I am rightfully owed regardless of what the base plan is.  I got it before, I should get it again.  I’ve spent countless frustrating hours on the phone with no resolution except a "research form" that was filled out.  Reps are no help and this one had a bad attitude and wouldn't let me finish my sentences.  I ask that you do what is right and reinstate the 12% discount on one of the lines as per the terms of the employee discount agreement with you.

While I cannot find the actual press release, HERE is an article which mentions that Verizon will no longer offer discounts on data below a $50 data tier. This was instituted back in 2011 when Verizon no longer offered unlimited data for new lines of service and you had to choose a minimum data tier of 2 GB for $30. At the time, you had to go with a data tier of at least $50 for 5 GB to qualify for an employer discount.
Since Verizon has switched to Share Everything and subsequently More Everything, I can't find the actual wording on Verizon's site, but I would assume they have not rescinded the $50 minimum on data discounts. Currently, I have a discount on my 3 GB/$60 More Everything data tier, but I can only assume if I drop below the $50 tier I would no longer receive a discount on my bill.
    Excerpt from the article.
BUSINESS DISCOUNTS- Currently our business discounts apply to the $29.99 data plan on the primary line only. Most discounts are 20% despite whatever monthly access discount they have
BUSINESS DISCOUNTS- After 7/7/2011 data discounts will only apply to the $50 and higher data packages on the primary line.
Discount break down ex. of customers with a 20% feature discount on their primary line. ($50-20%=$40/month for 5GB and includes the business e-mail feature)

  • Changing Asterisk Default RTP Ports - Have You Done It with Success?

We have an Elastix box at our main site, and we've recently had issues with people placing a call or two where they hear no audio with call drops after about 34 seconds. In these cases the person they called can hear them just fine. That's normally a NAT problem, and in this case it is as well.It turns out we have been allowing the standard UDP 10000 - 20000 back to the PBX in addition to SIP (UDP 5060) for Asterisk, but the provider is telling me they send traffic on UDP 1024 to 65534. What's very odd about this (using Broadvox Fusion) is that we have had ports 10000 - 20000 open since early 2013 when we moved to Elastix and not had this kind of problem reported since the last few months. We did a pcap with the SIP provider and called some of the numbers people have reported, and they confirmed the firewall is dropping packets.I've...

  • Customer Service lied??????

I was chatting with Customer Service on Friday 2/28/2014, and was told that I can give up my unlimited data (wife has smart phone with 2gb data which was signed on December 2013) and get 10GB for just $50 instead of the $100.00. According to her, this is the Verizon Maxx plan that just came out on, and that would make the cost to 2 smartphones $130.00 a month 2/13/2014.
When I called in, nobody knows what I am talking about.
So, did the customer service lie to me? I am so fed up and ready to switch to AT&T.
I have the Realtime Session ID number if the Admin or Verizon Customer Service want to take a look at it.

You get 8 GB and wife has 2 GB equals 10 GB of data. Read the above link.
    Good Luck

  • Complaint and runaround!

    Complaint!!
On my Verizon account my husband bought his phone in Nov. of 2013 and was told the unlimited was no longer available.  He was informed that it was switched to 2gb for the $30.00 a month data charge, no big deal.  3 months later I had upgraded my phone and was also informed that unlimited was no longer available, which I new.  At that point I was informed that due to so many complaints about the tiny data allowance of 2 gb, it had change to 6gb data usage instead.  At the time we didn't realize my husband did not get the same change with it being only a 3 month difference!  Both phones are being charged the same amount of $30.00 a month but I get 4 gb more.  My husband has called 3 times and talked with a rep.  The first time they said they were going to send a form through to notify of the change and it would be 5 to 7 days before the change would take place, the 2nd time the rep told him they saw that a change form was sent and it would be 24 to 48 hours for the change to happen but 3 to 4 weeks later the change had still not happened.  On the 3rd try which was just yesterday the lady rep said there was never a form sent through and she would push this through.  She then informed him that she was going to send her name and e-mail address to our e-mail on file with our account so we could get back ahold of her if this change didn't happen but guess what, nothing was resolved again and no e-mail from the rep!!!  We are not going to pay the same exact price per phone for data when it's a 4gb difference.  And NO we do not want a shared plan which they tried shoving down our throats everytime my husband called, we just want this corrected!!!  If this does not get moved to the 6gb in the next couple days I will drop our account.  I have been a loyal customer for quite some time now and never had a problem prior to this.  I use to rave about Verizon but will have to steer people away if this doesn't get resolved.
    Thanks!

The OP is looking for the Verizon Max 6GB for $30.
This is how this plan worked.
Originally it was offered as ONLY unlimited data customer switching upgrading and switching to Edge could get this. This was the incentive to switch to Edge. I don't know when VZW changed it and made it available for all unlimited customers to get this data plan but they have. Unfortunately, when your husband got his phone this was not the offering and there is no rule that states that they have to give it to him. You could claim it is a matter of principle but think of it if you were running a for profit business. If you have a promotion and a customer was not eligible for the promotion you wouldn't give it to them. It is really that simple. VZW used to cow-tow to customers so much that it got out of hand. Now that they are tightening up customers think that VZW is raking them over the coals or whatever term you want to use. It is their business and they are free to run it in whichever way they see fit. We are free as consumers to choose another carrier. I wouldn't expect them to give you a plan that you are clearly not entitled to.
On the other hand if you are on the 700 minute plan (the lowest available plan) the lowest cost you could be paying is $140 (without discounts and tax) if I did my math correctly. If you have unlimited texting it would be $160. So for $5 more you can get 8GB shared unlimited talk and text.
