Very Slow.......... connection for last week

Hi, ive been having very very slow speeds for the last 7-10 days speedtests showing anywhere between 200 kbps - 600 kbps which is obviously very bad, when i first move to this address about 2.5 months ago i was getting average of 5.5 mb which is a big diference. i have phoned bt who did test etc & got me to plug directly into master socket which didnt change anything, without going into all the problems ive had since moving i wonder if anyone who knows what there talking about tell me wether these stats from my home hub (black one) shed any light on the problem, also to point out i notice my phone line is a bit crackly when im using it
ps im still directly connected to test socket with nothing else connected except my bt vision into the hub which when i disconnected didnt make any difference either so i have ruled that out. also just for information the connection usually drops 3-4 times of an evening & speedtester.bt.com showed my ip profile is 500 kbps or 1500 kbps on diferent days

  • Very slow connection for about one week

For the past week or so my connection speed has dropped massively, usually i could download at about 800kb/s and now it has reduced to around 5-10 kb/s.
My router is connected directly to the phone line, and is connected to my pc via an ethernet cable and and wirelessly to 1 laptop and an xbox 360.
I checked BT service statues and last week there was a problem (which has since been resolved) in the Bishop Auckland area - I have reset my router several times and the problem persists.
I have tried about a dozen times, but as of yet cannot get the BT speedtest to run, I enter my phone number and then the screen remains blank, I have tried this in firefox and IE on both my desktop and laptop. I will carry on trying.
My results from speed.io are quite confusing as the download and upload speeds are "excellent"
    Results from http://www.speed.io
    (Copied on 2011-10-30 13:59:42)
    Download: 442 Kbit/s
    Upload : 118 kbit/s
    Connects : 1244 conn/min
    Ping: 39 ms
however in reality page loads are extremely slow and file downloads run at about 5 kb/s
any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • My mini has gotten very slow in the last week or so.

My mini has gotten really slow at everything in the last week. Most of what I do is done on the internet and I use Foxfire 4. Can anyone tell me how to run a system check that might help find the problem? Does anyone know of a problem with Foxfire 4 that might be causing this since I just down loaded it about a week ago.

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
On Foxfire, try using Safari or Opera and see if you have the same issue. You can also check the Foxfire site under support to see if any OS X issues have been reported.
How much unused disk space do you have? General rule is keep 10%+ unused for systems usage. Less than that can really slow the system down.
Some have found periodically using OnyX can help with performance. Download from http://www.titanium.free.fr/download.php and run the tasks on the cleaning and maintenance tabs. Before using any disk maintenance software you should have important data backed up.
If you want, you can run the Apple hardware test to ensure you don't have a hardware problem. It's on one of the gray OS X disks that came with your system. Look for the 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label. Insert and reboot holding the D key down, or hold the alt/option key and choose the Apple hardware test when prompted. Choose the extended test.

  • Verizon FIOS suddenly very slow as of last week

Has anyone else in Manhattan (I'm in the EVil/Gramercy area) noiced a severe increase in latencies (on wired connections) as of the past week or so?  UL/DL speeds can be normal per speed tests, but performance on heavy apps very slow, I'm told by my OT dept due 150ms+ latencies, even to nearby servers, e.g. yahoo.com?
I can barely get any work done. Verizon techs clueless. I'm buying a better router but not sure it will help.
Considering switching to TWC but have heard awful things about them too.
    Any ideas? Tx.

Hold off on buying that new router. It's probably not the culprit. I've noticed this as well (Midtown west), espcially while gaming, since the latency is much more apparent. Some sites are still good, but others have much higher latencies than normal. I've ran tracert's  on random sites, and it appears that there is a delay when the packet reaches "NYC1.Alter.net". I'm pretty sure this is a point beyond Verizon's reach, but they're the ones most likely to be able to fix this. The problem is trying to reach the right people. I spent a while with tech support yesterday, but they don't even know the difference between speed and latency, and even told me to contact the problematic websites to resolve the problem.... *sigh*... They said they would forward my issue along to a networking team. Other than that I think we can only hope they are aware of the issue and can work to get it resolved.

  • Very slow connection with Mifi 4510L??

I'm hoping someone here can give some guidance. I am having very slow connection with the 4510L we just got. Via test on speedtest.net I'm seeing download speed of .17 MBPS at times it was so slow the test was not completing. I normally have 1 or 2 bars on the mifi unit and have seen up to 3 at times. I drove into town and see the same range (1 to 3 bars). I have yet to see the 4G light come on except for prior to activation (would light solid green at times) since activating I have only seen the violet light for 3G.
Verizon advertises full service both around our city (Richmond, VA) and at my more remote location in Hanover. I have been through the recommended resets and nothing seems to improve the connection speed. Could the unit itself be defective? Also, I've noticed when I go to a location website it thinks I am in Pennsylvania when I am in Virginia. Could the Mifi be trying to connect to a signal in that location for some reason (was refurbished device)
Thanks for any help you can offer,
    Brian

I was having problems but upgrading to 2.28 seems to have helped me in addition to a few other changes I made based on this review of the 4510L
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4500/novatel-wireless-mifi-4510l-review-the-best-4g-lte-wifi-hotspot/4
    1) "selecting WPA2 Personal/PSK (AES)"
    2) "manually selecting a channel (instead of Auto) fixes almost all the instability problems"
(I'm not sure if it actually worked as the diagnostics always shows channel 0 no matter what I picked.  I did try a couple before one - or the myriad of other things I tried - seemed to make a difference - at least for now - fingers crossed)
    3) "allowing for one to select between each network mode manually, so you can force 4G LTE, EVDO, 1xRTT, or all of the above. This is incredibly useful if you’re right at the cutoff for 4G LTE SINR"  (that's WWAN Preferred Mode LTE only for me)
    4) I also changed my 802.11 Mode to just one mode that works on both computers at my house
    5) I am also careful to turn it off when I am done with it and take it off the charger for the night as well.
It is my only internet service due to my semiremote location (no cable etc) and when I first got it as a replacement for my dependable 2200 I was about to pull all my hair out.  I was "forced" into it because due to antenna issues on a local tower that supplies my 3G signal my 2200 wasn't even able to load my gmail account.  Verizon very helpful on that - call us if its still an issue in a "few weeks"!  However, when I inquired about the antenna's effect on a 4G signal, an intelligent tech was able to tell me that it was not the tower I would be getting a 4G signal off of - odd but I didn't question that possibility.
It runs very very warm but I suspect having it on the charger and using it almost all day is part of that.  At first I was wondering if heat was part of the problem - going so far as to have it sitting on an ice pack to test that theory.  Of course then I had to wonder if maybe I was freezing it -lol.  I am careful to turn it off when I am done with it and take it off the charger for the night as well.
I've been on it most of the day and it seems to be behaving well - so fingers crossed

  • Very slow connection with WRT54GS.

It appeared out of nowhere 2 days ago... slow connection for websites, very high latency for online games to a point where it's unplayable... i tried to reset my router, change channel(i'm usually at channel 6), moving the antennas... nothing. when i reset, the speed is fine for a few minutes, but after a while it's back to slow connection. My router isn't even 1 year old yet and it's already broken? I can't believe that, there must be some solution. Anyone can help please?

The latest firmware is 1.02.0 if you have wrt54gs v6 & V5 if yout got v7 the latest firmware is 7.50.0
First step you need to check is your direct connection from the modem.
    1. hardwire your computer straight to the modem using a cat 5 ethernet cable, if your download speed and your internet connection is slow, the problem is with the modem or with your ISP so you need to call your ISP and double check your connection.
If your speed if fine straight to the modem then its with the router.
2.Hardwire your computer straight to the router if your speed is fine when its hardwired through the router, then the problem is with your wireless card or the wireless settings of the router.
In US the standard channel is 11,6 and 1. So play around with the channel. If its still doesnt work then access the setup page of your router click on the WIRELESS tab click on ADVANCE WIRELESS SETTINGS sub tab. set beacon interval to 50, RTS and Fragmentation Threshold to 2304.
After that turn off the modem the router and your computer for 1min. After a minute turn on the modem first after lights of your modem are steady, turn on the router and lastly turn on your computer, check your connection if its fine then its fixed if not call linksys tech support.
I hope this would help. Good Luck!

  • Mavericks install incomplete. No Apple installers on HD. Will I be able to upgrade to Yosemite and will it fix all that didn't install with Mavericks upgrade? Very slow connection speeds 30 hrs to download Mavericks. Tried re-install; no help/

Ever since upgrade to Mavericks I have been having problems which are too numerous to mention. I finally found a program from a UCBerkley professor called Pacifier which indicated 4000+ of 400,000+ files and folders did not install. I was unable to go further to try to fix everything because Pacifier can't find ANY Apple installers on my HD. It recommended I download the Mavericks installer without reinstalling to continue; however, after having done so (very slow connection; takes 30 hours to download) and although the installer appears in apps while downloading it disappears and NO Apple installer packages can be found on my hard drive. I tried to download Yosemite once and it indicated my system wasn't eligible for the upgrade. Its' download time was similar to Mavericks; 28+ hours.
    I am using a Macbook Pro mid-2012 version OS X 10.9.5 (13F34); Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5; Memory  4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB.
Regardless of how many files and apps I remove my memory is being eaten up to the point I can hardly do anything at all. There are no civil words for how frustrated I am. Someone please help me.
    Thanks,
    JJ

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • ARD 3.7.2 very slow connection on Lan

I'm running ARD 3.7.2 on MacBook Air (OSX 10.9.2) to connect mac mini (8gb / osx 10.9.2)  very slow connection on LAN.
Mini connected to LAN 100Mbit Ethernet, MacBook connection is wi-fi

Ok, I solved it after doing some extensive Google searching.  Still not sure why ARD went bonkers, but here's my fix.
    1. Download the ARD 3.7.1 client drom the Apple downloads page and install it manually on the client machine.
    2.  Go back to the administrator machine and delete the computer client from the computers list.
    3.  From the scanners list, find the now visible client machine (it will probably say "no user name or password" next to it) and drag it to the computer list.
    4.  When you drag it over it will ask for the username and password.  Fill in an administrator user name and password for that computer, click OK and you're done.
Still a mystery as to why ARD software itself will not create new client packages.  I still haven't figured that part out.  Downloading the standard client package from Apple is the only work around I know of so far.  Good luck.

With your line attenuation you should be getting a sync speed of 16000 kbps and a profile of about 14 Meg, however it looks like you line has been capped at 1/2 a Meg, that is why your noise margin is so high ( should be around 6dB ) now this could be due to a line fault ( loss of framing/signal ) or a problem with your internal wiring.
However since you have has this problem for so long your best bet is to ring BT India on 0800 111 4567 and try and get a SFI fault raised so an Openreach broadband engineer can come and see if they can sort the problem out.

  • Very slow connection after phone line repair

I had my phone line repaired yesterday with new cabling and new BT box for phone and computer. My phone is fine, but the hub for my broadband does not appear to be ok.  the phone symbol on the hub did not light up at all  this morning, and after restarting the hub and going back to default settings it is now glowing orange only.  It was ok yesterday after being fixed. Very slow connection now. Should i keep  everything on  to see if it will right itself, or re-start yet again?
I have been looking on BT's options for fixing but can't seem to find anything. the connections in my area are fine so it can't be an outside fault

Which home hub do you have? Did you recently re-contract or change your package, as that will affect your hub phone.
As for the speed issue, it should get better if you leave it alone.

  • Very SLOW connection - 5 mbps download

Since November, 2014, I've been experiencing very slow connection.
    Redlands, CA 92373
5 mbps download 30 mbps upload
Called the call center 5 times. Each time, just a bunch of rebooting the router & speedtest.net checking
A new Verizon router was installed and didn't improve anything.
Technician 1 visited and mentioned that there is a network hardware problem in the area and many people called in for slow connection issues. The technician rebooted the ONT box and said if the speed goes down again, the ONT box should be replaced. The speed went down as soon as the technical left.
Technician 2 visited and replaced the ONT box. Later that day, the speed went down to 5 mpbs for download.
It's so slow at the time of writing this that Facebook page is rendered with texts only.
Are there anyone from Redlands, CA area who have been experiencing the slow connection for a while?
I don't want to call in again to go thru another around of 1 hour long rebooting / resetting the router and chekcing the speedtest.net exercises.
I feel I am being ripped off because I am paying for 75/75.
I'm running out of patience and am considering to switch to Timewarner.

  • Help : very slow connection speed with AEBS and iMac

I connect to the internet using my newly purchased AEBS. I have a MacBook and an 24" iMac ( purchased in Nov 2007). My iMac showed very slow connecting speed of <1 MB/s download; with my MacBook placed just 1 foot from my iMac, the MacBook showed an amazing download speed of 20MB/s. If i connect the iMac to the AEBS using ethernet cable, it can get a very high speed.
    So, where is the problem??
I am new to wireless, please help. I use iMac more than my MacBook at home.
Actually, i did not touch the any of the advance setting of the AEBS.

You know, I am experiencing the same problem. My wife's PC and iPhone are blazing fast, but my MacBook is accessing the internet at about dial-up speeds. Very frustrating and I haven't yet found the culprit.
    Anyone???
