Very weird internet problem :I

Hi everyone, I am calling for all the experts because I have spent my last two days resolving this problem without any success.
I moved to a new location Saturday where I set up my Airport Extreme to provide a wifi network. The extreme is connected to the ISP's modem in Bridge mode. ISP modem address is 192.168.1.254. My Macbook gets usually the 192.168.1.4 IP address, DHCP is the 192.168.1.254. I have in this network my MacBook and the wife's Vista on a desktop PC. MacBook is up-to-date with 10.5.8. (Or, better to say, that was the starting system version)
What I experience is, that some of the websites are working in my MacBook (meaning they are loading in), while some not. That means white page, no content at all, loading goes forever. For example youtube does not come in. Adobe does not come in. Apple.com works. I couldn't find any pattern why a site can't load.
Safari and Firefox makes the same, so it is probably not a Safari bug.
The machine with Vista (on the same network) works with every webpage (using Firefox). I didn't had this problem on the old location.
I did the followings:
- I took my MacBook back to the old location, where the old network I used for years still works. Same problem. Never had this before. Then a got back to the new location.
- I connected the MacBook via cable to the Extreme (Aiport in MacBook disabled), same problem.
- I created a new user, nothing.
- I created a new network location, nothing.
- Reset Safari, nothing
- Tested browser capablities in various sites. I had some which were not loading at all, but the ones that worked gave back a good result, meaning every plug-in worked.
- Reset modem, reset Airport Extreme, nothing
- Changed wifi channel (from 6 to 4), nothing. I live in a village, no wifi pollution anyway.
- Deleted Safari and System cache, nothing
- Verified Disk permissions, some problems were found, repaired them, nothing.
- With the help of apple support I deleted some System configuration files which were automatically generated by new start, nothing
- I did a complete archive and install
- I tried out everything without an update (that means 10.5 and Safari 3.0.4), almost the same.I had some pages which were working after 2-3 min waiting, but with youtube for example I get some weird, almost only text content with small pictures and no video. After 2-3 min wait of course. And a message, that java is old. Hit the link, went to Adobe, slowly loading but I couldn't download the .dmg, Safari says network error, server could not be found.
- The I did an update (through Software Update, bandwith was O.K). System 10.5.8, newest Safari, the same problem that I had before archive and install. Youtube won't load at all.
- Then I did a complete new install with erase. Nothing, problem stays!
So, now I am sitting in front of a brand new installed MacBook with 10.5 (no updates yet after installation) and I really don't know what to do now. The problem seems to be not software related. The problem seems to be not network related (Vista works on the same network). Can this be a hardware problem? I really can't imagine it...

I did talked to the ISP and got the access codes to the ISP router. It's a WLAN broadband router, by operating mode I see the following option checked:
Wireless ISP: In this mode, all ethernet ports are bridged together and the wireless client will connect to ISP access point. The NAT is enabled and PCs in ethernet ports share the same IP to ISP through wireless LAN. You must set the wireless to client mode first and connect to the ISP AP in Site-Survey page. The connection type can be setup in WAN page by using PPPOE, DHCP client, PPTP client or static IP.
So, would it mean, that if I connect my Extreme in bridge mode, than I do not have double NAT and that is the correct way of connection?
To clarify the situation, I have a microwave antenna and that is connected to the ISP router. Then a LAN port of the ISP router is connected to the WAN port of the Extreme. (I did try to connect it to a LAN port of the Extreme, everything was the same).

  • Weird internet problem / ssl connection error, site loads in safari not in firefox or other way around

I really can't figure out this problem. Search the internet tried all kinds of things, nothing help so far.
I have a Macbook Pro (Lion originally installed) running on Mavericks (all latest updates). SSD installed and the DVD tray is replaced by the original HDD.
The laptop wasn't running very smooth anymore so decided to give it a fresh Mavericks install (even though I know it's not really necessary for mac, it helped, everything is much faster except a weird internet problem came up).
After freshly installing Mavericks I couldn't get into my google account anymore, just wouldn't load. Tried Safari (use this normally) and Firefox and Chrome, this last was gave a SSL connection error, both Safari and FF said the website couldn't be loaded because the server didn't respond. For Gmail I use Mailplane which is just stuck on a white page. I tried repairing the keychain, repaired disk and disk permissions, cleaned browsers, turned off firewall and antivirus (Shopos) started in safe mode, checked time settings which were all good. Nothing of this helped. I even ended up creating a usb bootdisk for Mavericks, formatted the disk and reinstalled from the start just Mavericks and nothing else, started Safari, still the same problem. As even this didn't help I figured it's not worth reinstalling all software so put back my backup.
Now I ended up somehow only being able to use Gmail normally in Firefox, Chrome still gives SSL error and Safari can load the inbox, but I can't open any messages. I get the error there is a problem with the connection. If I try in Basic HTML mode it surprisingly does work.
You would say, just use Firefox, finished...but the thing is that sometimes random websites won't load in Firefox, when I load the same site in Safari it works perfectly.
O yes, I also tried the connect to my iPhone and use the Cellular data network, then it's no problem using Gmail in Safari normally. You would say it's a router problem, but I have another Macbook Pro (just one model later running Mountain Lion) this one works perfectly with every browser. Also my iPhone does everyting logged into the WiFi network.
You can understand I really have no clue what's going on here, I don't see any logic. I can only think of a hardware problem in my Macbook, but don't see how that could cause these problems.
I hope someone is ably to help me ?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Very Strange Internet Problems

I own a MacBook Pro 15.4 Inch that I purchased about a year and a half ago. I recently upgraded to Leopard and have all the latest updates. I am from the US, and when I am home my internet works fine. However, I am on travel to Seoul, South Korea right now and am having a very strange internet problem.
As far as I can tell, the URLs that I type in to my browser are, sparodially, not translated correctly into the webpages that they are supposed to represent. This problem is probably effective 75% of the time, and the rest of the time my internet works roughly correctly. For instance, when I enter http://www.google.com, instead of being taken to the Google homepage, I am taking to the homepage of Jammin Beats DJ Service, an obscure website about a company in northern Pennsylvania. The actual URL of this website is http://www.jamminbeats.com, but when my internet is malfunctioning, 'jamminbeats' is for all intensive purposes replaced by 'google' (that is, it applies not only to the main page, but to sub pages, so "http://www.google.com/weddings" takes you to "http://www.jamminbeats.com/weddings" and etc). For most other webpages, one of two things happens. Either I am taken to the correct page but it is displayed without any images or frames (just the html text and links), or I am taken to a blank page with the header "Under Construction", which I assume is the default for a page that doesn't exist. This is why it seems as though the URLs are simply being interpretted erroneously.
This problem occurs when connecting both to the wireless and the wired internet at my hotel, and it occurs on both Safari and Firefox, so it is not a connection-specific or browser-specific problem. It may be a problem with the hotel's internet, and as of yet I have not had a chance to test the computer at another location. However, a colleague using an IBM computer has had no problems, and I am currently on a Samsung machine in the business center of the hotel and it is working correctly as well. I have searched extensively online for a similar problem but have come up empty handed, and more than anything, I am confused about what might be causing this problem. The strangest thing is that a fraction of the time, the internet functions normally, but it is usually roughly 15 minutes out of every hour, and eventually I am inevitably taken back to Jammin Beats.
I am a computer science graduate but I still have no idea what would cause this problem. At first I thought it might be a hacker, but if it is, he or she has been at it consistently for 3 days now, and only seems to be targeting my computer. Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated, as I have been forced to resort to the hotel's business center for checking email, doing work, etc. Thanks in advance.

I did consider that, as I was in Beijing last week and there are a number of censored sites. However, in Korea I have had problems with very basic sites like facebook, wall street journal, google, yahoo, Korean google, my hotel's webpage, etc. Further, I have successfully gotten all of these sites to load seemingly at random, and can access them without problems on other computers. The only disconnect seems to be between my MBP and the internet, not between Korean internet and the web. I have toyed around with the network settings, and although sometimes after switching from "Automatic" to a fixed connection I get some sites to work, it usually only lasts a short time and eventually the same sites stop working. I reset my cache regularly to make sure I'm not getting sent to cached sites, but this also doesn't help. Further, my Apple Mail, Skype and AIM accounts jump between being connected and disconnected randomly as well. Again, this is isolated to my own computer, which is why I'm so confused.

  • Very weird font problem

I have a very weird and annoying font problem with the left menu bar of iTunes 8.2(23)
Some but not all menu items are displayed like a mix of Hebrew and unprintable caracters.
But once the menu item is selected, the font is back to normal !
The weired thing is that TV Series and Shopping cart menu items are displayed (in French, because the interface is in French) as expected.
I don't know if it is related, but I have Russian-PC keyboard installed too, Adobe CS4 (which installed Adobe fonts) and my OS interface is in French.

How did you go about finding this Lucida Grande.ttf? I did a search and didn't find it. I have the same weird font thing in itunes. I recently installed a whack of fonts from another computer. Any help would be appreciated.

  • HELP ME! My computer is posessed! Very weird power problem!!!!

I am using an iMac - first generation of intel-based iMacs - and I have a very weird powering-on and powering-off problem.
When I plug my iMac into the wall socket, it starts up on it's own. When I shut it down (using BOTH the apple menu OR the power button), it starts itself right back up. When I put it to sleep, it goes to sleep and then wakes up immediately. It does restart normally, though, so it seems that my iMac simply has a problem with being OFF!
Help meh! I'd like to save a trip to the Apple Store if I can help it!

    Hello DrackerDesign

Reset the SMC, as per > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    +1. Shut down the computer.+
    +2. Unplug the computer's power cord.+
+3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.+
    +4. Release the power button.+
+5. Attach the computers power cable.+
+6. Press the power button to turn on the computer.+
    {quote:}When I plug my iMac into the wall socket, it starts up on it's own.{quote}
It will do that if the box *☐ Start automatically after a power failure* on the Energy Saver preference panel is checked.
    {quote:}When I shut it down (using BOTH the apple menu OR the power button), it starts itself right back up. When I put it to sleep, it goes to sleep and then wakes up immediately. It does restart normally, though, so it seems that my iMac simply has a problem with being OFF!{quote}
If the SMC and Energy Saver Preference changes do not cure these problems, then you will need to seek service help.

  • Very strange internet problem...

So, I just did the update last night, and I think after that my internet stopped working...It was late, so I just went to sleep.
This morning, I wake up and open Firefox...Internet not working...Even though I know it won't work, I open my remote desktop connection and try to log on to my work computer using the wi-fi in my apartment...Well, for some reason that worked.
I am typing this message right now through a remote connection, but using the same wi-fi that firefox and safari tell me that is no internet connections when I try to open it up from my computer.
To make it even weirder, I opened quicken on my computer here and tried to download transactions, and not only did it download them, but it took me to the actual bank site and I could navigate all over it...But when i tried to go to a different website, it did the exact same thing and stalled out again.
How can I use this internet connection to log on remotely and use the internet remotely, but on local programs, it tells me I have no internet connection?
My modem and router are clearly fine since I can access the internet under certain circumstances. Any thoughts?

Your problem sounds similar to one that I am having as well, after downloading the update for Mac OS X 10.5.8. After I downloaded the update and restarted, my MacBook Pro could not find an internet connection. I was sitting in my living room and even trying to find my network again, my computer failed to connect. I went into the dining room where my Airport station is, unplugged the Airport and restarted the MacBook. I was able to get back on the internet and everything worked fine. However, once I went back in the living room (which is only another 20 feet or so) I no longer had internet connection. This continues to happen today. I am fine if I work in the dining room, about 5 feet from the Airport station, but as soon as I go in the living room, I lose connection. I checked my iPod touch and was able to connect to the network even farther, which leads me to believe it isn't my cable modem connection.
All of this happened after downloading OS X 10.5.8. I even tried going to the Apple site and redownloading and installing 10.5.8, but that didn't solve it. Anyone have any solutions, or know anything else regarding this problem?

  • Very weird monitor problem, betcha can't solve this one.

OK I have a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz with 4GB of Ram, it's fully up to date with Lion, and is connected to a Formac W2300-1U 23 inch TFT Monitor (DVI, VGA, 1920 x1080, 1000:1, 5ms, 400cd/m²) through a HDMI to Mini port adaptor.
Now, the problem is the monitor flicks off, then on, at first I thought it was just randomly, but today I isolated the problem to something specific that make it happen. When I open the preference panel, and click on 'Trackpad' as soon as the video demo starts to play the monitor switches off then on.
It's totally weird, what on earth could be causing this? Any ideas?

ok well i have no idea what happened. i started out again with a fresh installation of JBoss, and it worked. no clue as to what was wrong. musta been some JAR that was out of place or something.
    thank you for your help!

  • Weird internet problem with AE

I installed airport express a few days ago, everything works fine. But I am having trouble connecting to a few internet sites using the wireless network, including www.apple.com and microsoft.com. It stalls while it is looking up for images, while if i'm connected on a cable to my dsl modem everything works perfectly. What baffles me the most is that other sites with large pictures display quickly on the wireless connection. Does this sound familiar?
    Yours,
    Arthur

Yes, this randomly happens to some people for reasons not completely clear.
One thing you can try - on the Mac, open System Preferences->Network->Airport->TCP/IP tab. In the DNS field, type in the IP address 10.0.1.1 (ie the IP address of the Airport Express). No guarantees, but this sometimes solves the problem.

  • VERY weird internet connection habits...

So the connection will go on when i start up my computer and everything will work fine. then maybe 10 minutes later the connection will go out on JUST my computer. My windows machines will work fine but my mac won't even pick up the router, and it says i have no wireless networks to connect to even though I do.
This wont happen every time i start up my computer, maybe only 5/10 times, but it can get really annoying, because the only solution is to either wait 20 minutes for my mac to find the router or to unplug the router and plug it back in.
    Does anybody know a fix?

This is probably the MOST discussed item on this forum - see Erik's DNS solution
Try Erik's solution - it fixed internet access for me -- in this thread -- http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1225208&tstart=0
    Larry:
In my case, this is an issue with the DNS Server. In my set-up, I had a G5 with intermittent access, and a MacBook Pro & iMac G5 with no problems. There is only one difference in the configurations. The MBP and iMac had additional DNS addresses added into their network configuration from my last ISP. I had manually entered them, and never removed them. When I added the same DNS Servers to the G5, problem solved. When I removed them from the MBP, problem appears. This was not an issue in Tiger, and although I'm not sure why, I have determined a few other workarounds and contributors.
First, in the Network Preferences, you can hit the Advanced... button and click the DNS tab to see your DNS Servers. Likely, you only see 10.0.1.1 or something similar which means the computer is getting DNS info (routing to internet servers) based on what the Airport Extreme/Express or other wireless router is sending through DHCP. If you have the actual DNS Server addresses from your ISP (or any ISP) you can add them here and probably fix your problem. Add them and click OK, followed by Apply.
Now to the root of the problem in my case. By opening the Airport Admin Utility, and selecting my base station and clicking on the Internet tab, I can see that my Base Station is serving up two DNS Servers. One is it's own router number which falls into the 192.168.xxx.xxx range. I know this isn't a valid number. The second is the actual number from Cox (my ISP).
So when the computer relies on DNS info delivered through Airport using DHCP, it is getting a bogus number first, but it keeps trying. Eventually, it might look at the 2nd option, which explains the delays. If you enter the DNS info directly into the System Preferences, it seems to ignore the DHCP version and go right to the site you want.
Check with your ISP for a list of DNS Servers. Any server will work, just be sure it is from a reputable source. If your Airport shows two servers like mine, use the Network Utility to do a look-up on the non-192.168 number and see if it comes back as your ISP. If so, then you can probably just insert it as the first server on the Airport or add it to the Mac with the issues.
I hope this makes sense and addresses your issue. It sure did help with mine.

  • VERY WEIRD MIC PROBLEM! After latest upgrade(23.4.A.0.546) Z2

Hi Guys, I've upgraded my phone to 23.4.A.0.546. After this upgrade i had problems with microphone on calls. Btw, every other apps using mic is ok. Here are the cases that mic does not work or work.    It's very annoying. Any ideas?

Sergio, I believe you have no other alternative but to wipe all data and start from stretch. Do you have any 3rd party apps that are not from Play Store? Most of the time they are the ones giving you problem. Try transferring their apk to cloud, delete them before updating. Than put them back if you need them after completing the repair.

I have no idea how to describe the problem as I am no native speaker. The following screenshot shows the problem, it has yet only occured within Firefox:

What caused this and how can i fix (there it is again, when typing f-i-x) it? Thank you.

  • VERY weird iPod problems...Please Help!

Okay, folks, do I have a doozy of a problem here.
Okay, first off, when I connected my iPod to the computer a week or so ago, it told me that there was a firmware update, so I downloaded it and installed it. That is where my problems began. Soon after, the iPod began to freeze a lot while playing songs. I would reset it, but it would continue to freeze while playing songs.
Next, I turned the iPod on yesterday after having not used it for 2 or 3 days and when it came on, ALL of my songs were gone. It said that there were ZERO songs on the iPod. But the kicker is that it still said that I had the same available space as when I had 3500 or so songs on it. (Don't worry, I have back-ups of those songs, so I didn't lose them).
So, I figured that I would try to reformat the iPod and maybe then things would start to work. That doesn't happen. When I try to run the updater (with or without the iPod initially connected via Firewire), it just sits there on "Initializing...." and freezes.
So I then figured that maybe I should just try to run the software that came with the iPod and maybe that would help. Well, last night I ran the software and after running through the entire line that lights up on "Waiting for iPod" 4 or 5 times, it told me that the iPod needed to be formatted. So I clicked the "Format" button. This morning, I came to check on things and it was still "Formatting" with no end in sight. It did not take this long when I originally installed the thing.
That made me think there might be a problem with the harddrive, but when I went into "Diagnostic mode" and ran the HDD scan, it came back as "Pass". Now, that may mean that there are still problems, but it's nothing I can think of how to fix at the moment.
This is my last resort before I call Apple and probably have to pay to get it fixed! By the way, I've had it since January of this year. Thanks for any help you guys can be!
    -Eric

First of all, replying with "I have had the same problem and Tech Support hasn't been able to help me at all!" is not going to help anyone.
In fact, it's kind of considered "thread-jacking" and is considered rude.
As for my problem, it has been solved (some-what). I succumbed to downloading Windows XP Service Pack 2 (which I had always heard was death for iPods so I avoided it) and things are now running. Not as smoothly as they did before updating to the latest iPod firmware, but still they're running.
My advice for the future, if you're having problems, start your own thread. Don't jump onto someone else's thread because no matter how similar your problems may be, there is no possible way that your problem could be EXACTLY the same as that other person. There are going to be differences between computer configurations, etc.

  • Help! Strange Internet problems!?

We just got weird internet problems! Very annoying! I'm writing from iPhone now!
    Facts:
-Starting today, both our Macs started having problems accessing only SOME parts of Internet ?! E.g: Can access google, but NOT gmail.com from Safari. Can access both from Firefox. Can't access this forum from any browser?!
-Mail downloads/sends some accounts but not others
-Tried restarting Macs & modem & router
    - called Time Warner
    - no recent changes to macs
    Any ideas!?

    More weird results.
It turns out CAN access this forum from Safari browser, but it takes a VERY long time to load.
I tried our iPad.  I can access this forum fine and it loads right away using same WiFi as laptops?!
I still can't access gmail.com from Macs or iPad, but can access it just fine from iPhone (via AT&T, not home network.)  Errors:  Opera says "Session closed by remote server".  Safari on iPad says " server stopped responding".  Safari on Macs says "can't open ... because server isn't responding"
MOST urls load fine and super fast.  Only a few don't load at all (e.g: gmail.com) via home network.  Others load fine on iPad on home network but VERY slow on Macs (e.g. this forum)?!   Everything seems to work fine from iPhone using AT&T network.
    I'm really confused?!
