Vga-usb

I need to present a slideshow in a few days and since I reside in a small town in the middle of nowhere and don't have time to drive three hours to buy a vga-minidvi cable or risk shopping online to find out that it will not arrive on time, I was wondering if I would be able to use a vga-usb cable to connect a projector to my macbook and present the slideshow? Will it work if I don't use the mini DVI but instead just the usb drive?

The only way it would work is if the maker of the usb-vga adapter provided Mac drivers, of which I have never heard of any.
your best option would be to buy the dvi adapter and have it shipped overnight.

  • Late 2011 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion - Have two external displays (one MiniDisplay, one VGA-USB), how do I rotate just the one screen?

The primary, horizontal monitor is connected by the VGA-MiniDisplay adapter, and the secondary monitor (vertical) is connected with a VGA-USB adapter. They both connect fine, but I only have the option to rotate both at once. That is, the main 'System Preferences' window that shows up on the primary monitor has the option to rotate, but only there -- when I rotate that screen it rotates both.
Also, I'm not going to be using the actual MacBook screen. Any ideas as to how I can get this to work? Thanks!

The Apple TB displays I've seen come with two TB connectors. You can cascade them in daisy-chain fashion.
However, you are limited to how much information the GPU can produce and store. I've been told by the local apple shop (not an official Apple Store) geeks that if you cascade two of the big displays onto one of the Macs (big models), both will fire up, but the Mac's internal display will be disabled. Apparently 1GB of VRAM isn't enough for so many framebuffers.

  • VGA / USB adapter for an iPad3

I need an adpater that has both VGA / USB connections for an iPad3 to connect a projector.

Belkin and D-Link have USB adaptors, but whether they have drivers for such an old model is another matter. You can check them out as well as do a Google search for others.

    Hey there!
Do you have a different pc available? Or if you have a friend who has a laptop will do as well. Because that will answer your question if its an issue with your pc. If it doesnt work with the other pc and you've tried a diff cable, its a big possibility its with the usb port on the printer.
Now, if you dont know anybody with a diff pc, you might wanna check your firewall settings. Its also one reason why your pc cant detect the printer.
You can also disable the startup programs just to make sure its not an issue with any 3rd party software. Try to follow the steps in this link in how to disable them ( and make sure you re-enable them once your done )

  • Connecting 2 external VGA monitors to an E535

I already have one external VGA monitor connected to my Thinkpad E535 via the VGA port.
What is the best way to connect a second VGA external monitor?
    Should I use a VGA-USB or VGA-HDMI converter?
Do the converters need to have their own graphics card or can the E535 built in graphics card deal with 3 (laptop + 2 external) monitors running simultaneously?

  • Viewing from a VHS/DVD recorder on VGA monitor

I purchased a VHS/DVD recorder to archive old fanmily videos.  It is a Toshiba that has RCA ports, USB ports and HDMI ports.  The monitor I have is a wide screen Viewsonic, but is old enough that it only has a VGA cord connection to the coomputer.  I need to know what specific accessory I need to watch and edit the home movies.  Do I need a VGA/USB sdapter or a VGA RCA video converter, or either, or neither???

    Hello coffeyville1,
While there are available connectors out there that should accomodate your ability to make your current monitor work for you, I've always been taught to make connections from one unit to another with as little "conversion" as possible.  As it's been pointed out here, you should be able to find an inexpensive monitor that will serve the purpose you require without setting you back too much.
One thing to remember is to keep the "quality" of video as high as possible.  If your Toshiba has an HDMI port for video, I'd look for a monitor that support the same connection.
I hope you find this helpful.

  • No longer able to set resolution above 1024x768

I've read several threads about somewhat similar issues, yet none of the things I have tried have had any effect (well, except making xorg configurations that don't work at all).  Apparently the wiki entry on this topic is all wrong so I may have been trying the wrong things.
Here is a summary--I'm including some extra info ( try not to yawn because I honestly am out of ideas, and am hoping context will be of assistance.  I have an old 1920x1200 24" monitor.  My desktop (dual boot Arch/WinXP) connects to it through a VGA/USB KVM.  I use the NVIDIA drivers on the desktop.  For what it is worth, the other machine was a work-owned laptop dual booting Windows XP and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
This configuration worked for a long time like a charm, both laptop and desktop, both boots on each.
Sometime around June, an Arch update (or possibly NVIDIA driver update) made my resolution downgrade (on the desktop) to 1024x768.
Then my work laptop got reimaged with Win7.  Win7, (like Arch on the desktop), refused to use the proper resolution by default.  However, I figured out how to force it.  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on the work laptop -- same problem as on the Arch desktop.  I only include this in case it helps narrow down my problem, though I expect if I can figure out how to fix Arch I can figure out how to fix Ubuntu.  (it's torture trying to do my job using the crappy Windows nomachine client)
Ok, so to focus on the issue -- the following is from my Arch install on the desktop.
    Out of the Xorg.0.log:
[ 1333.785] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Unable to read EDID for display device CRT-0
    [ 1333.785] (**) NVIDIA(0): Using HorizSync/VertRefresh ranges from the EDID for display
[ 1333.785] (**) NVIDIA(0): device CRT-0 (Using EDID frequencies has been enabled on
    [ 1333.785] (**) NVIDIA(0): all display devices.)
I have been trying to get xrandr to get the right resolution set as a stepstone to changing xorg configuration, without success.

Here's what you can do. Fully remove the xorg.conf file. Regenerate them using nvidia-xconfig, Open the nvidia's GUI as root and just click "Save configuration", or something among those lines. Google your monitor's manual and find the RIGHT vertical and horizontal sync frequency ranges. After setting them in your xorg.conf log-out and log-in again. Go to the nvidia settings gui, you should be able to use a higher resolution.
I've tried this a few times, but always end up with a "Signal out of range".  I think the trick is finding the correct ranges.  My monitor is a Soyo Topaz S 24", and I can't find any official manual or specs online.  What I have found is this:
    http://www.thinkcomputers.org/old/index … ews&id=733
    That review indicates:
    Frequency: Fh: 30 kHz - 80 kHz; Fv: 50 Hz - 75 Hz
    So I set:
    HorizSync 30-80
    VertRefresh 50-75
Signal out of range, which is annoying because in order to fix it I either have to reboot using a live CD, mount the drive, or ssh into it.  Whoever started the trend of disabling ctl alt backspace to kill an xsession is not my friend...
Some other forum posts about this monitor indicate that there may have been two variants, but I can't find a different set of specs.

  • Future iPad improvements

I own an iPad 2 and love it, feeding it with new apps on a regular basis. However it does have obvious shortcomings and I'm seriously thinking of buying another tablet that has features which are missing.
    Keyboard
I'll start with the the most common failing, which is the keyboard. a positive feature of the onscreen keyboard is the large size of the keys which is great for speed typing. I type faster on my iPad than any other device but only if I'm only typing text and not using complex punctuation. To type a number  have to press a toggle key that converts the whole keyboard. To correct a word back from my current cursor position I hold my finger down and wait for a magnifying glass to appear. Too slow and far to clumsy.
One only has to look at the Thinkbook app to see how Apple should have applied a proper text editing set of features. With regard to the numbers, these should appear as a row above the current keyboard and there can be a toggle key to activate and deactivate it.
To summarise - shortcomings of keyboard - number keys and text editing controls.
    2. iTunes - File Transfer
Here is a major problem and concern. Plug in you iDevice and iTunes automatically loads up and syncs, downloads apps purchased but not downloaded, check for new updates, etc. This is a obstructive process if all you're wanting to do is copy files across.
When I plug my device in a pop up should appear with two or three buttons -
    File Transfer
    iTunes
    File Transfer followed by iTunes
One can be in an extreme hurry when needing to copy files and so the default iTunes setup is a barrier to using this device quickly.
    3.  Common Folders
This may be the craziest thing about iDevices. If I want to copy a PDF to the PDFReader app, I load up iTunes and add the files under the Apps menu. If I want to view the same files in iBooks or another PDF Reader I need to copy the files again to those apps. This means the files appear several times on my single device, and they are cut off from one another. In PDFReader I cannot see what other PDF files there may be on my iDevice, nor can I load them up without connecting to a Mac or PC and copying them over.
There should be a common file folder structure where common files are stored and can be accessed by multiple applications. I can't believe this does not exist already and can't understand why there is no option for this. From the root folder there should be PDF, JPG, PNG, GIF, DOC, KEYNOTE, PAGES, NUMBERS, PPT, and other folders. Apps should be able to access the files they need from these common folders.
    4. Ports / Hub
It's very understandable why Apple chooses to continually omit ports from their iDevices. For years the weight, thickness and appealing look of the devices have pleased the consumer and has been a correct choice as people don't want to carry around bricks. IMO it's important for Apple to continue this policy. However Apple does need to design a hub which can be plugged in and has all the necessary elements in one package. This would be a HDMI, VGA, USB 3, micro USB, mini display ports, micro, mini and normal SD, CF card slots all in one hub unit, together with a power connector which is magsafe.
Buying separate add-ons is frustrating and costly and there is nothing more frightening than arriving to present a talk and panicking because you may have forgotten a connector.
Alternately Apple can release a Connectivity iPad which has all the connectors, slots and ports one needs already built-in. I would favour buying a seperate all in one hub, but there may be a market for a connectivity tablet.
Above is listed improvements that need to be made pronto by Apple if they are to completely dominate the market. If they're happy with less of a market share then their current course is fine, but I will shortly be carrying around another tablet. My wish is for a better iPad though.

Steve Jobs wants Apple products to be the best not just to have market share.
This means listening to their users.
With regard to the other tablet makers, they really do have a branding problem. When I say iPad everyone knows what I'm talking about. If I say Iconia or Transformer I have to explain. They are in a deadend - not sure how they are going to get out of this dilemma,

  • 500-281 monitor connection

Just bought an HP 500-281 and plan to connect it to a Dell UZ2315H multimedia monitor with speakers and webcam.  As I understand it, the 500-281 does not have an HDMI port, but instead an DVI-D or VGA port.  The monitor only has HDMI, VGA, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and mini DP ports as well as a headset jack.  I already ordered an HDMI to DVI-D cable, and am trying to anticipate any needed connections in order to get full usage of the monitor(speakers particularly) and of course video.  My question is with an DVI-D to HDMI cable to the monitor, I don't know if I'll get audio as well.  Anyone with experience with this kind of connectivity problem?  Don't know why the 500-281 doesn't have an HDMI output, though that's beside the point.  Any advice/help would be welcomed, thanks, sandssik

    Hi,
What is your plan to feed audio to the Dell monitor since DVD-D doesn't supply audio and there is not the typical audio in port that many other monitors with internal speaker are provisioned with for sound?
Are you going to try PC audio line out to mic in on the monitor?
You might need to consider a graphics card with HDMI that would support your audio requirements.

  • Audio/Video Output Splitter/Selector Help

    Hey guys, quick question:
I use my late 2009 mac mini to run my DVI monitor most of the time but sometimes when I'm watching downloaded stuff I switch it over to my LCD TV which means I have to switch the display cable in the back and the stereo audio out cable from my computer speakers to my TV. Is there such a device where I can just switch between the two without having to juggle the cables every time? I know they make DVI splitters but what about DVI and audio?
    Thanks in advance!!

Take a look at the Belkin website. I have one of their KVMs for switching between VGA, USB and audio between my PC and Mac. They may have something for DVI too.

  • KVM suggestions

I am looking to get a KVM for use with a number of servers including a number of Macs and I want this to be a rackmountable solution. In the past I have used a Belkin Omniview Pro which had support for USB and VGA and this worked fine. However with VGA being effectively obsolete and not well supported these days on Macs - even if you have a Mini Displayport to VGA adaptor I would now prefer a DVI & USB solution.
Unfortunately Belkin's nearest equivalent product the Omniview Pro3 only supports VGA & USB.
I am therefore asking for suggestions as to an alternative which supports the following.
    DVI monitor
    USB keyboard & mouse
    Rackmountable
    16 servers
Ability to expand beyond 16 servers via expansion unit or stacking additional units (to allow 1 keyboard, mouse and monitor to control more than 16 servers)
I don't need to support longer distances so a Cat5 or IP based solution is not necessary, nor do I need a 'dual-head' solution.
Please indicate a specific model since manufacturers websites are often unclear.
    Thanks.

I've always been a fan of the ATEN products.  However, they only have 8 port models seen here http://www.aten-usa.com/DVI-KVM-SWITCHES.htm

  • SERIOUS FLAWS IN LAPTOP

hello ive got a hp pavillion g6 it seems to get hot really quickly and by quickly i mean like 10mins its only 6months old also to the extent where the vga port next to ventilation holes can burn you been burnt many times by i keep it well ventilated. this is design flaw i think if you plan on designing a laptop revise how big the vents are for cooling and make sure the side were the vents are arent cluttered with vga, usb, hdmi, sd+mmc ports etc hint put some on the front! it will leave more space for ventiltion and improve the performance of the laptop. im 18 and i find it quite painful when it burns me it leaves marks on skin for a few days also, plus if a small child were to touch the arwa were it is overly hot it will cause them severe pain. I myself have put up with it as i dont like to cause problems as getting it replaced and losing all my data but this just isnt my laptop a few of mates also have the same laptop and the experiance the same problems i think you should seriously revise your design layouts of your laptops. this is the exact model i have hp pavilion g6-1154sa notebook pc

yes, i have the new itunes. I think my ipod software may be out of date but i dont know how to update it if i cant even plug in my ipod.

I need help.  I need a KVM to switch between my Mac Pro and my IBM ThinkPad (docking station).
Best Buy (only local option) has only a VGA / USB from iogear that scroll lock doesn't work on the Mac and low and behold I'm a d.a. and didn't notice VGA, ie:  want/need DVI.
I don't game on my Mac or do high-end video editing but don't want to step down the video quality too much.
Appreciate all of the forthcoming advice.

I guess I should have clarified and said "can you please share what you've used and been successful with"
Two that I have been considering are:
    ConnectPRO
    http://www.connectpro.com/prod_kvm_usb12plusDvi.html
    IOGear
    http://www.iogear.com/solutions/kvm/?view=displayDVI
If you do the Belkin KVM wizard, as soon as you reference a Mac, they only support VGA and I am not sure why.  http://www.belkin.com/kvm/
    Thanks for the effort.
