VI documentation feature broken in labview 8.0, 8.20, 8.21, 8.5

The VI documentation feature is broken. Descriptions of type def controls are not added to the vi documentation report. Also, all the clusters are parsed and inserted in the control tables wrong. Independent cluster controls show up as elements of other clusters.
Since we've been through four releases without a fix, does anyone know f this feature is supported anymore? It is useless in its current state, so it seems as though it isn't.

I am using vi documentation to create help files for an API I am working on. The API will be distributed to customers of a new embedded motion control product my company makes to provide labview support. So I am simply printing documentatin to rtf files from my API vi's with vi descriptions, icons, and controls to make it look just like NI's help files for their vi's. Once I have them all created I will import them into a chm file with a utility I have. Then I'll go back and link them in the vi's so the API will be self-documenting and have help files attached to everything. And it will all go in a big source distribution. I don't think I'm doing anything weird here. This seems like it is exactly how NI would recommend it.
The problem source distributions are broken and so is vi documentation in 8.0, 8.2, and 8.21, and vi doc is still broken in 8.5. But I can't ship the API in 8.5 anyway because our customers probably won't have it yet.
So yeah in the first thread I just posted about descriptions not being included. But I am also seeing error clusters, for example, included inside all my waveform controls. Is there an error cluster inside a waveform control that I don't know about? I've never seen that before.

TestStand Full Featured Labview OI - Documentation?

Can anyone point me to any documentation/examples out there for the TestStand Full-Featured Labview OI? I have tried looking just about everywhere and can't seem to find any good documentation/explainers on how the OI works and how to customize it. I am new to TestStand OIs and am trying to create an OI that allows me to run up to 6 different UUTs independently at the same time. I can't figure out how to wire in each individual Execution Entry point and am looking for examples and/or documentation. I also need some help with Progress bars and test status indicator LEDs.

Below is an example front panel of what I am trying to accomplish. Most of the controls are not connected of course :-). I am trying to have one window with 6 different executions shown within it. Each execution would be seperate from one another and you would be able to view each just by clicking on the tab for that particular test fixture. The only thing that would be common is that each execution would be running the same sequence file. The individual test fixtures could be at different points in the test sequence and could have different start and stop times for each. For instance....test fixture #1 could be loaded with a UUT and started into test then while it is running test fixture #5 could be loaded with a UUT and started into test. In the meantime when test fixture #1 has finished testing I could load another UUT into test fixture #1 while test fixture #5 is still running. etc etc

Documentation of Labview Vis

When distributing application programs created in Labview we have to provide a complete documentation package.
We used to print most of the Vis on paper which is very time consuming and pretty hard to maintain in case of a software upgrade.
I am looking for a tool to view the Labview source just like the development system but the user can not change or run the code.
I found the Labview player which looks like to have this functionality.
Is Labiew player for Labview7.1 available?
Has anybody some idea how to handle this in an easy way?

I'm looking for a package or library to document VIs of an application in a manner like the LV Help. This could be a HTML Help (chm-file) or a website (html-files).
I know that I can programmatically print to HTML with settings from application: printing and vi: printing. This will give a single HTML file for each VI - I don't like the appended version - with all the graphics files. This file isn't formated in any way so any postprocessing must be done; like referencing to a css, active links to callers and callees. For the windows platform compiling to chm with the HTML Help workshop would be nice, using the folder structure for the structure of the TOC.
I tried to find out what the nirsc_html_help_common package available from OpenG does but the description seems to be really empty. I tried to install it but didn't get it to work. This is another thing I have to solve.
I was pointed to the Documentation Generator from VI Engineering. This one seem to be either over featured or too expensive.
The online help is refering to third party products but I need something to create just the input for the HTML Help Workshop.
Can someone give me any hints about that?

Example Finder broken in LabView 7.1 in OS-X 10.4?

I've just tried to install LabView 7.1 (and then upgraded to 7.1.1) on a Mac running OS-X 10.4.2. The Example Finder and other features (e.g., no Welcome Screen) do not seem to run. I went and installed on another system running 10.3.9 and all was fine. Is this a known problem? Is there a patch?

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my post. It did not work in 7.1 either. I had tried upgrading to 7.1.1 to see if that made the difference, but it did not. I have already tried installing 7.l twice.
In the LabView opening screen, I try to launch the Example Finder either in the Open... or Help... buttons. The "Launching Example Finder" small window flashes briefly, but nothing happens. The examples themselves are there, if opened manually, and they work.

I am facing some problems to program the IC for monitoring and balancing the cells' voltages and charges using LabView via NI myRIO. Can anyone help me to design this by giving some references and technques.

I believe with EPS you can monitor the cells' voldates and charging. I'm not sure what you mean by balancing, though. Can you elaborate a bit more?

"Render text as HTML" feature broken in Flash CS6

Concise problem statement:
Classic text field set to render in html mode does not display the left margin correctly for the 2nd and subsequent paragraphs once you exit edit mode on the text field. Instead, all paragraphs render as though they have the same left margin as the first paragraph. It displays incorrectly at runtime as well.
Steps to reproduce bug:
1. Create a "classic text" mode text field as dynamic text with "render as html" button checked and set to multiline.
2. Enter a title line, press enter, then create a second paragraph, press enter, then create a 3rd paragraph.
3. Select the 2nd paragraph and increase the left margin.
4. Select the 3rd paragraph and set the left margin to something different than the 1st or 2nd paragraph.
5. Deselect the text field to finish editing.
Results:
While editing the text field, the left margins on the second and third paragraphs are displayed correctly with independent values, but once you finish editing it and deselect the text field, the entire text field displays as though all paragraphs have the same margin as the first paragraph. If you resume editing, the indentation re-appears, so it's not lost, but it's not being displayed correctly unless you're in edit mode for the text field. It also displays incorrectly at runtime in the final SWF.
Expected results:
The indentation should be visible regardless of whether I'm in edit mode for the text field.
This feature (html mode display of text) is unusable at design time or runtime, because the text field does not display correctly unless you're actively editing it.
FYI: Things like different colors, fonts, etc. seem to be preserved, but anything related to paragraph formatting is lost. If I trace the htmlText at runtime, it's clear that none of the unique paragraph formatting was preserved from the editor, because all paragraphs seem to have taken on the same textformat attributes as the first paragraph.

If I was going to do everything in ActionScript, I wouldn't have bought Flash Professional, I'd have just compiled with the flex compiler for free. 99% of my stuff is pure AS3 anyway, with a lot of drawing commands and even embedded objects like pixel shader binaries. It's just annoying that I can't use the Flash Professional visual designer as intended to perform WYSIWYG layout, because paragraph formatting is broken. It's not copying the values from the UI into the final HTML for the text field. I find like 3 new serious bugs every single day I use Flash, and for the amount of time I spend debugging the IDE and filing bug reports, Adobe should be paying me to use their product, not the other way around.
The only real "workaround" to perform proper paragraph formatting in the visual editor is to use the TLF, which should have been integrated into the Flash Player to begin with instead of existing as an RSL that has to be specially referenced by any project that uses it, cluttering the external library reference list. Someone needs to build a Flash IDE inside Flash that specifically generates classes for library symbols with all the necessary code in the constructor to build the symbol, so it runs online and is truely WYSIWYG (perhaps something like Gliffy: http://www.gliffy.com/gliffy/#templateId=blank&signup=1 (this link bypasses login)
I still can't get a static text field to look the same as the dynamic one. The closest I can get it match is by setting render as HTML on and setting the field to multiline, but characters still shift slightly. TLF text, on the other hand, has perfect consistancy, and edit mode lines up perfectly with non-edit mode, which is exactly how it should have operated from the beginning (like back in MX days).

Could it be possible to have some explainations on MAX activeX methods and properties ? I searched without success any help file on ShowViewByViewID method...

NI-DAQ does ship with a small ActiveX controller that has a limited number of methods and properties that can be used. Unfortunately, the MAX Viewer was designed for internal use, by NI products, only. Because of this, this control is not advertised to customers as an extra feature and is not officially supported; therefore, there is no documentation to help clarify the ShowViewbyViewID or ShowView methods.
If there is a particular application that you need it for or a specific action you are trying to accomplish then feel free to let us know and we will see if there is another option available to us.

Unfortunately, our NI-PCI-5122 did not come with good documentation. There was a printed 'specification' booklet and a 'getting started' booklet. Both are also available as pdf from the NI web-support.
There came no manual with the card and no manual is available for download.
The 5122 will not show up in the support pages under "product manuals"

At least the 5122 is not listed under DAQ devices and no high-speed digitizer entry is there.
If there is a link to the NI-5122 high-speed digitizer DAQ card, then this link is well hidden.
I can search for 5122 and find a download page for the 5122, called "User Manual"

(1) the site is telling me, that this maual is not the most recent one.
However the link to find the last version leads to just another search page.
(2) the link to the not so recent User Manual points to no pdf file.
I get a zip file containing *.chm files I don't know what to do with.
Only recently I found out, that these are Windows help files, not too much help on my Apple.
(3) When I moved to a Windows PC and opened the *.chm files I did not observe, what I was used to obtain as a NI User Manual.
In particular it is hard to find any docu about PFI.
When I search for PFI I find a lot of entries but none of them really explains in detail, what I can do with the PFI lines.
In summary, I did not find any description how to configure PFI lines.
Yes, I opened all 4 "User Manual" files and I have read all ~90 search reasults for PFI.
And I still don't what what I can use PFI lines for except that i can use them as trigger input.
I have a feeling that these PFI lines are just what I am looking for.
However, it is very frustrating for me that no real User Manual came with a $10'000 card.
It is possible that I am just too blockheaded to find the info about PFI.
However, I was doing fine the old days when NI products shipped with user manuals to read.
Not the topic of this thread, but without good user manuals it took me a while to realize that I have to install NI-scope after installing LabView and that I cannot use NI DAQ or NI-DAQmx to talk to my 5122 DAQ card.
I hope this all does not sound too desperate. I just wanted to comment on your post that the NI hardware comes with hardware manuals and that hardware manuals are available for download. This is simply not true for the $10'000 NI-PCI-5122.
Note, that we have another NI card in our Lab. Those days they wanted to use the PFI input for some kind of synchronization. As they also didn't find usefull PFI docu, they just trial-and-error-ed but failed. Mailed support from NI was of little help by that time. Only long after they had found other solutions, they found out that it was simply missconfiguration due to lacking documentation.
This is just to say, I am not the only one out there.
As there is no user manual and phone/e-mail support has to be paided for, the only help I can get is this NI-forum.
It is such a pitty that NI hardware is so great and works so fine with LabView, but I have to crawl the net for infos and will in the end not use the needed features that would be available.

In particular, I was asking if I can connect a 10 Hz TTL signal to PFI 0, configure PFI 0 as counter, and read the frequency of this counter with a nice LabView VI.

Best approach to dealing with someone else's sphagetti code with no documentation

Hello LabVIEW gurus,
I am just given a few software tools to add functionality and rewrite, each of which is a big spaghetti mess and each tool has 100+ vis all sphagetti, these tools control a very complex machine talking via seria, parallel, ethernet, 485 etc. and there is barely any documentation of the logic or the implemetation of the source code / what the subvis do.
what would be my best approach to understand this mess and recreate it in a structured way faster. it has lot of old sequence structures and just plain bad style of programming.
any help is highly appreciated

And Do not forget about using the VI Analyzer TK! It can reveal several obvious sources to clarify code that "Stinks" A lot of skull sweat went into that framework and it has signifigant value!

I installed VISA-RTE and there is only a documentation link in c:\programs\...

I just installed visa-rte on my XP PC. There is only a documentation link when I try to run the program (start, all programs, national instuments, visa). I was expecting a .exe. Is this normal or was there an install problem. Do I need Labview to get anything out of visa-rte? I am try to establish communication between a PC and several DC rectifiers. The rectifier manufacturer pushes VISA-rte and "Power Ten GUI". The "power ten gui" displays some canned screens but I dont see how the VISa-rte enters into it. Please help.

A runtime engine isn't always an executable. Sometimes it's just libraries. Did you also install Measurement and Automation Explorer when installing VISA? That should have created a blue icon on your desktop.
What is "Power Ten GUI"? Is it a LabVIEW app? If so, it's probably using VISA, which is why it requires the VISA runtime.

Wiki "remember password" feature broken after clean install

I did a clean install, then restored the collaboration folder from an asr backup.
Only problem is, if clients check the "remember password" box (in the wiki login - not a browser feature), then get the following error:

Curiously, the text "remember password" is also missing from next to the checkbox.

Your symptoms imply a mismatch between the web client and the server. It seems the web client is newer (10.5.2) and the wiki server is earlier (pre-10.5.2)
Could your restore have mismatched items?
One way to fix this is to do a clean install on another disk, then copy the server bits back over, using ditto or cp. The server bits you'll need live in /usr/share/wikid

"Round-trip" feature broken!

all of a sudden after years of trouble-free operation, i started having a problem with round-tripping of my referenced files (most of my library). it happens when using any plug-in or editing with photoshop.
it seems that as soon as i choose one of the "Edit with..." options and it creates a new version, the new version has no name (blank) or displays "null." the image opens in the editor of choice (e.g., CS3, Nik filter), i make edits, but when i return the preview is not updated and full-screen mode does not show the updated image.
if i choose to open the image again in CS3, for example, it will show the edited image.
this problem just started happening out of the blue. here are some recent things that changed on my Macbook Pro:
1. Upgraded from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6;
2. Ran the Aperture database re-indexing and permissions check.
Fortunately, before doing the 10.5.6 update, i performed a backup that i plan to restore and see if this will fix the problem. but i was hoping to avoid this if someone knew what was going on.

The round trip feature is back now. I updated iTunes to 5.0.1 today, and that function is available again, but it still doesn't work as the previous version did. Option clicking an arrow in the iTunes music library will perform the specific query I mentioned earlier in the post. Clicking on the arrow from some of the items in my library works intermittently. For example, when I click on Matchbox20 - I am taken to Advanced search page. When I click on Destiny's Child - I am taken to the iTunes Music store page which features all DC albums (this is the proper way it should function). When I click on Whitney Houston's Greatest hits - I am taken to ITMS Whitney Houston page, but not that specific album (which should not be the case). It should just isolate that one album by Whitney. For anyone that has a sizable music collection, this feature of iTunes is invaluable in my opinion. I'm surprised it's not exploited in other software.
