Video IPOD Menu's to TV

I want to use my IPOD as a digital music server and not a video server. Can I output the menu's from my IPOD to my TV and control via a remote.

If 'Tv-out' would be under 'Settings' in the main menu in stead of only under 'Photos' and 'Videos' it would be solved ?? Is there third party software or should Apple be asked to solve this. It would be nice to be able to use the remote control from more then a meter distance....

I plug my iPod into my suround sound system, have the remote for the iPod and if your sitting on your couch, after watching a movie or song or what ever, you always have to get up to change it. They went that far and you can't get the menu to display on the the screen of you TV. That is stupid that they did that. So now what?

Sorry, Apple didn't design the iPod to output the menus to your TV.

  • The option of video doesn´t appear in my ipod menu and can´t install videos

I have an ipod 60gb but in menu doesn´t appear videos option. I installed itunes 6 and quicktime 7.
itunes have videos and play videos but in the ipod not.

Are you sure you have a video iPod? Apple have released a 60GB iPod before that was only a colour. If you are sure, go to setting, main menu (2nd down) and find video. Press it and return to the main menu.

  • Video menu option is missing from my iPod menu.

I purchased a 60gb photo ipod approximately two weeks before the video release. When the video release software was available I downloaded it and the "video" option appeared on my iPod menu. A few weeks later I ordered my first videos from Itunes. After downloading the videos and updating my iPod, I found the video menu option was gone from my iPod. I have reset my ipod, deleted and installed new software, used the updater and have never been able to get the "video" menu option to show up again on my iPod. I can view the video in itunes but I can't get it onto my iPod. I just downloaded the latest iPod and iTunes software today and still no luck. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, were you able to fix it? I love the iPod and would like it a lot more if the video function worked for me. Thx for the help.

  • New Video iPod will not connect

I have a new video ipod that will connect on one computer but not the one I want to use. I have reloaded itunes several times and checked firewall. When I plug the ipod in the computer makes three dings. Is this an error code of some type? It will not show up in diagnostics and after trying it shuts down internet connection until computer is re-booted. It connects fine on the other computer. Has anyone got any answers? I have tried different plugs and it shows to charge just will not connect.

You want to check and see if the other computer has usb 2.0 first.
If it does try to reset the ipod while it is plugged into the computer. Reset is the menu and the center button on the ipod. Also make sure the hold switch is all white.
Also you want to make you that you try different usb ports.
If that doesn't work use msconfig type that into the search here on the support page let me know if this works.

  • Game doesn't fit the screen, iPod menu sideways

I have a 4th generation iPod Nano. The problem here comes from the game Brain Challenge.
This is probably a very confusing and complicated explanation of the problem, so I've provided photos of the problem at the bottom of this post.
When I start Brain Challenge the game video is not aligned with the screen so that part of the game is cut off when I play. The game should be displayed on the screen horizontally (with the ipod held horizontally - as in Klondike), however my problem is that Brain Challenge is displayed with a vertical orientation (with the ipod held vertically), meaning the right-hand side of the Brain Challenge interface is cut off by the edge of the screen and there is a large black area at the bottom of the screen (see photo #1).
To make matters worse, when I exit Brain Challenge the orientation of all the ipod menus are askew as well (photo #2). With the ipod held vertically, the ipod menus are now displayed sideways, with anything at the "bottom" of the menu being cut off by the edge of the screen, and a large empty black space at the bottom of the screen. I have found that the only way to correct this and reorient the ipod menu display is to go to Cover View (even resetting the ipod does not resolve it). When I exit Cover View everything is back to normal.
While I have been able to fix the display of the ipod menus when this happens, the problem I described above reoccurs each time I attempt to play Brain Challenge. Maybe the game thinks I have a 3rd generation Nano?
I have uninstalled the game from my ipod and reinstalled it with no better luck. The only other software I have added to my ipod is Ms. Pac-man.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

I would do a Restore in iTunes to erase the iPod and initialize its software. Then re-sync your iTunes library as desired, including adding that game. See if it plays better.
If not, and you don't have any similar problems when you play any other games (or at any other time when using the iPod), you should report the problem about that game through the iTunes Store. You can do so using iTunes by selecting the iTunes Store in the sidebar, then clicking on your iTunes Store user ID at the upper right corner. This will give you your account summary view. Click on +Purchase History+. From there, you can find the specific purchase that has this game and +Report a Problem+ to explain the issues. If desired, you can request a refund, because the game does not work as expected.
After doing the Restore, if you notice other similar issues (not just a problem in that game), you may want to have the iPod looked at under the one-year warranty.

From the iPod's Main Menu choose Videos -> Settings and make sure TV Out is set to Off.
Otherwise, try a hard reset as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • 5th generation video iPod USB not working

Hi, my 15 month old iPod 5th generation video no longer connects with USB on my iBook (all my other USB devices work just fine in the two USB 2 ports).
The screen lights when iPod is plugged in and when unplugged using USB, but that appears to be the in toto communication performed.
I have performed the five Rs, and putting the iPod into disc mode yields the expected result on the screen of the iPod (tick and OK to disconnect) but no connection to the computer (yes, I have plugged/unplugged a number of times).
I have disconnected the battery (as another poster suggested) for several minutes and that does not seem to have helped in resetting the system.
It charges just fine via Firewire (either by a Firewire port on my iBook or by an Apple Firewire AC adaptor type charger), with absolutely no charging taking place when connected with USB (either by a USB 2 port on my iBook (G4 2004 model) or by an Apple USB AC adaptor type charger).
I have also tried three different USB cables, one old, two brand new Apple ones (all of which work just fine on my old 4th gen iPod, my daughter's 3rd gen iPod and my partner's two 4th gen iPods).
When I run the inbuilt diagnostics on the iPod, all of them come back as ok, including USB, both as charging and communication, so, in theory, everything should be ok, but most patently isn't.
I have tried to use the iPod on a Windows 2000 computer and an older iMac (both of which otherwise work fine with other iPods either using USB and Firewire) with nil recognition by any.
I've looked in the wide dock connection plug at the bottom of the iPod as another poster said that the connection pins might be bent, however, I can't see any actual pins, just a wide tongue in the middle, the same as on my other older iPod. Or do I need to open up the iPod and look for something in there?
Judging by the nr of comments and questions on similar issues here with the 5th generation video iPod, there should be a definitive fix for this problem, although, after looking through as much of the forums that might relate to this problem, no one seems to have come up with an explanation, let alone a solution for it.
So, my question remains, my iPod 5th generation video no longer connects with USB on my iBook, has anyone else (taking into account the above information), either had/have this problem and or found a resolution to it?
    Cheers, Peter
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   5th generation video iPod

Dear deggie, hi, thanks for the tip as to what I should be looking for in the slot. However, sadly, it all looks to be fine (well, at least the same as my other iPod).
HR, thanks for the tip re opening the iPod, unfortunately, it is 15 months old, so well past the 12 month warranty expiry (ridiculous, isn't it?).
Here in Australia, we don't have access to Genius Bars and Apple Stores, just the local distributors, and they want $210 to repair/replace the iPod, which, frankly I find a bit rich, considering that it hasn't been mistreated in any way and the other iPod I have has been running fine for more than two years.
I get the feeling, judging by the many complaints on these forums regarding the problems that the gen 5 iPod being recognised and connecting to both Mac and Windows, that this cannot just be purely user error or maltreatment. However, I'm unsure as to what can be done to resolve them or get Apple to admit to there being a problem.
One of the things that confuses me, is that all the internal diagnostics (menu + select then select + back) including USB communication, all come back fine, when, as mentioned in an above post, it most patently is not. Anyone have any clues as to what this might be due to?
If, by some bizarre fluke, I manage to find a resolution to this problem (short of going and paying Apple $210), I'll post back here with it.
Again, thanks for the help, cheers, Peter

  • Movies and TV Shows Missing form iPod menu -- what's up with that?

I purchased my fist movie and TV episode last night to see how well I will like them on my iPod classic. I am connecting to the most up to date version of iTunes on my IBM/Win XP computer.
I watched the episode (Journeyman's first episode -- missed it on Monday...it's not bad) and was pleased. Then watched Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy -- also enjoyable even at the small size (especially the opening sequence which emulates "home movie" style in a very small frame).
Near the end of the movie, my iPod battery was giving up the ghost, so I paused the movie and plugged in. After waiting out the "Do not disconnect..." syncing process the main menu finally appeared on the iPod -- but the Movie and TV Shows selections were conspicuously missing from the menu! I have not seen my Movie/TV episode since.
They are in the iTunes library, obviously, but they simply never show up in the iPod menu. So far I have sync'd a number of times -- the sync settings were originally set by default to sync all songs, podcasts, TV Shows, Movies, Songs, etc... I tried "tweaking" these but to no avail. All syncs result in no Movie or TV Shows on the iPod menu.
Most recently I tried deleting all material from the iPod and then re-syncing all material back to the iPod (no help) and lastly I tried resetting to factory default settings (which originally seemed to work just fine) still to no avail.
When I select Settings >> Main Menu ... from the iPod main menu, the configuration screen also does not contain options for Movies or TV Shows.
It all makes me say "Hmmmm...." and leaves me reluctant to waste money on video media (though thank god my Tiki TV podcasts are still coming through just fine ... no Lala? I don't think so!). Nope, check that! video podcasts are not coming through either. GEEZE!
Has anyone experienced this before? Again, I've updated all iPod and iTunes software. Nothing "funky" seemed to happen to cause the problem, other than it conincided with plugging my iPod in (which kicks off the blasted sync process -- geeze these settings are a pain...I'd prefer the blasted thing to just sync on demand) >:-( Any help/suggestions would be most appreciated. Without a solution, I'll never be able to keep up with Journeyman!
    Thanks

I can't remember exactly what I did. I do know that when I started it up, I couldn't find the Setup Assistant on the hard drive,
No, once a user has been created, you can't run Setup Assistant  (without erasing and reinstalling).
What do you recommend for fixing this?
    Here's what's happened:
When you first start up a Mac and create the first user account, OSX assigns it UID (User ID) #501.  The next one gets #502, etc.  Those UIDs (not the user name) are what control permission to files.
You can see those numbers via System Prefs > Users & Groups;  click the padlock and enter your Admin password, then select an account and right-click it, and select Advanced Options.  Do not change anything on that window.
So . . . assume your old iMac had a user 501 with the data you want; it's identified that way on the backups.
When the Apple Store started up your new Mac, and created their account, it became #501.
When you used Migration Assistant to transfer the 501 account from the iMac's backups, OSX copied everything there "as is" except it had to change the 501 to 502.
The new 502 account has all the right permissions to things now in it's home folder, but the backups belong to user 501.
Have you added much to the Mac since you did the migration?  Have you done any new backups?  If not, while it's a bit of a hassle, one fix would be to create yet another user account temporarily.  Make it an Admin account.  Log on to it and delete all the other accounts.  Then migrate the accounts from your backups; this time there won't be a conflict, so OSX won't have to change the UUID(s).
But if you have done new backups, this won't work, since Migration Assistant automatically uses the most recent backup.  There's a way around that, but it's a bit (or more) tedious.
    Clear as mud?

PROBLEM: 5G iPod not recognized in iTunes (shows as removable hard drive in My Computer) via USB on HP Pavilion Notebook running WinXP. Latest error states insufficient power to run hi speed USB device on this computer. HP support replies that installed USB should comply to 480 Mbps hi speed standard. Action: Tried it on my iMac G4 thinking I could reformat it. Mac understandably does not read it as a drive. I tried the following three connections:

    QUESTIONS:
Has the 5G iPod reached a point where it now pulls too much power to be read by USB? Is HP not giving me correct specs regarding the performance of the Notebook's USB? Why can I update my iPods with firewire on my Mac but not the PC? Any suggestions regarding what I should try next?
    Thanks.
HP Pavilion dv notebook Windows XP

Solution was found: HP was encountering a conflict with a trial version of Symantec Security Center and Norton Anti-Virus causing an incomplete install of iTunes.
The following actions resolved the problem. Uninstalled both Symantec applications, uninstalled QuickTime 6*, installed QuickTime 7.1.3 (iTunes would not install successfully prior to this step, seems redundant but worked), installed iTunes 7.1 (with Quicktime 7.1.3 again), connected iPod 5G which was finally recognized, received error that iPod was currupted, restored iPod and is now working fine.
I hope that this helps someone else with similar video iPod problems.

  • Video iPod freezes, no longer syncs

I've had a 5th gen. video iPod since January 2005. Been working perfectly until recently: I was going to skip a song and the screen froze up on me. So I held down the Menu and Center buttons (like I normally do to reset), but this time when the iPod booted back up, I got a white screen saying I needed to connect to iTunes to restore.
So I got home, connected to iTunes and hit the "restore" button to return original factory settings. Then I copied all my iTunes songs back onto the iPod. The next day I was playing songs on Shuffle, and when I would try to skip to the next song, the iPod would work really slowly. So I did a reset again and when the iPod booted up again--everything had been erased.
So I restored the iPod again, but had problems when trying to copy my iTunes library. I got an error message saying that I was missing a necessary file (it didn't specify which one) and could not sync.
Now when I even try to restore again, I get an error message saying I can't restore due to an unknown error (1418).
    Can anyone help me?

Hm. Well, since your iPod is already blank, try hooking it up to another computer and replace it with that library. If it works fine there, then your iPod's fine, and the problem is the iTunes and iPod software on your computer. Try uninstalling (to go control panel - add/delete programs to make sure it's gone) and then installing the newest updates. Then connect your iPod, restore, and sync. Try that first?

  • Video iPod Doesn't Wake from sleep

My Video iPod seems to have a weird issue. Ever since i got it in december, occasionally i wouldnt get any response from the ipod when i tried to wake it up flipping the hold switch on then off and pushing each button on the click wheel. even when i plugged it into a firewire or usb cable, it wouldn't wake up.
back then i just let it sit for a few minutes and i'd try again and it'd work perfectly fine. the problem wasn't that reoccurring back then, so i didn't worry too much.
recently i updated the ipod with 1.1.1 firmware, and the ipod seems to be running a whole lot smoother than it did before. the only problem is that now when it goes to sleep, it never wakes up. not when i plug it in, not when i push buttons, not when i flick the hold switch. i found out that i can turn it on again by resetting the ipod (flicking the hold switch, then holding select and menu) but my ipod takes a good minute to turn on, and this is hard on the battery.
i know i could try restoring the software on the ipod, but that would erase the 15 GB i have on the ipod, and with my USB 1.1, it could take over a day to put it all back on. is there any other solutions that anyone can think of that wouldn't require me to completely start over?
    thanks,
    david

Trying everything I could on the Apple support site besides restoring the iPod, I let the battery drain completely. Now the iPod will not turn on AT ALL. I left it plugged into a wall charger all night and day, and still nothing appears on the screen. I've pushed every button, tried resetting it. I get nothing.
    What are my options now?

  • Problems with my new Video iPod

Hi, I just got a brand new black 30GB video iPod, so far it has been great. However, I've noticed a problem with the HD. Whenever the HD is spinning up and the iPod is moved you can hear the HD clunk. It also tends to make a odd whirring noise when I move the iPod around. If the iPod is moving around during startup (Apple logo appears) it will clunk and I will get the sad iPod icon. This doesn't seem right, this is exactly what my previous iPod did (20GB 4G) and that is why I got the new video iPod as a replacement. It just doesn't seem right for it to do this. Has anyone else noticed this before or do I just have bad luck with my iPod's? Secondly, I was considering buying the Apple USB power adapter. It is possible to buy a 3rd party charger for less money than what Apple wants? It's really stupid to not have a charger included on a device this expensive.
    Power Mac G5 SP 1.8 (Rev B.), iMac G3, iPod Video 30GB Black   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

The sad face icon usually means the hard drive is dead. If you're seeing it, it sounds like your hard drive is about to die. I'd exchange it or get it repaired. One thing I would do now too is to do the diagnostic on the iPod just to see if the hard drive is bad. Reset the iPod by pressing Menu and Center. Right when the Apple logo appears, quickly hold down Center and RW. Press Menu to do manual test, go to IO, go to HardDrive, and then to HDSmartData. If the hard drive is good, it gives values for retracts, reallocs, and some other numbers.
Third party USB power adapters should work fine, and yes I agree it is cheesy and cheap for Apple not to include one, which they used to when they were nicer.

  • My 30 GB video ipod plays video but they have no audio

i have a 30 gb video ipod and the videos i put on it do not play audio i have used the mpeg4 streamclip and it still doesnt work please help me

You can use itunes convert mov and mpg to mpeg-4. One thing though, is that if you convert an mpg (mpeg-1 or mpeg-2) muxed (muxed means that the video and audio are put together on one single track) than you loose the video or sound when converting them to mpeg-4 from itunes. If your videos are muxed you must find another video converter on the web. You can find out if the original video that you are trying to convert for the ipod is muxed by opening the original video in quicktime and then click on the Window menu then click on Show Movie Info this will show you if the file is muxed.
