Video plays fine in iMovie but is messed up on DVD?
I made a 15-minute video using iMovie. I then made a DVD using iDVD; however, about 5 minutes in on the DVD, stuff gets weird. There are clips where I muted the video and had a voiceover, but for some reason on the DVD you can still hear the audio from the video clip. Voiceovers are getting jumbled up and playing over each other. I tried burning two separate DVDs, and it happened both times. I also tried just exporting it to my desktop, and it happened again.
Does anyone know what the problem could be, and if so, how to fix it? Thank you.
Which version of iMovie?
If you are on version 8.0.6, this is probably due to the use of speed changes like fast motion or slow motion.
If you have speed changes in your project, you need to stick to the pre-set tick marks of 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800%, etc. If you use a custom percent like 58% or 139%, you will get weird audio behavior in your final product.

Video plays fine in iMovie but not in Web Gallery ?
Hi
I managed to import some small video clips to iMovie 08 using Streamclip (converting to .dv files).
The movies play fine in iMovie - no problems. However when I publish to Mac Web Gallery (I only published "mobile" size), one of the videos always hangs at the same point. The clip starts playing but you can see the clip stop loading and then it stops playing at the exact same point about 3 minutes in.
The Web Gallery says the clip is 4mins 36secs long but it never plays it in full. I've removed from Gallery and republished. I've also deleted the project and started from scratch. Both have failed to cure it.
Also tried it in Firefox 3 and Safari - same result.
Why is Mac Web Gallery struggling to play all the clip?
Thanks for any input!

Plays fine in iMovie but the sound disappears once exported to Quick Time
I read through all the little support things in the iMovie '06 help and nothing worked. No matter how many times I try to export my project to QuickTime everything works but the audio even though I've made sure the audio settings are correct. In iMovie the video plays and the imported song does as well but exporting loses the sound.
What am I doing wrong? Some possibilities:
Check out this thread for a possible solution: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7305234 Perhaps renaming the file would help.
I don't know if ithis has an effect on the file, but why is it saved in documents rather than music or movies?
Also, are you using iTunes to convert the file to .aiff? Here is the procedure from iTunes help:
*Choosing AIFF and WAV custom import settings*
If you use AIFF or WAV encoding, you can use custom settings for greater control over the quality and size of imported files.
To choose AIFF and WAV import settings:
1. Choose iTunes > Preferences, click Advanced, and then click Importing.
2. Choose AIFF Encoder or WAV Encoder from the Import Using pop-up menu.
3. Choose Custom from the Setting pop-up menu.
4. In the dialog that appears, choose settings:
Sample Rate: The number of times per second the music waveforms are captured digitally. The higher the sample rate, the higher the quality and the larger the file size. Don't choose a sample rate higher than the rate used to store the music originally or you'll waste space. CD quality, for example, is 44.100 kHz, so choosing a higher rate when you're encoding from a CD is unnecessary. In general, the best choice is Auto, which uses the same rate as the original music.
Sample Size: The number of bits used to store each sample taken as the music is encoded. The higher the sample size, the better the quality and the larger the file size.
Channels: If you don't have stereo speakers or if your audio files are monaural (mono files are about half the size of stereo files), choose Mono. If you'll be listening through headphones or a stereo system, choose Stereo or Auto. Auto converts monaural tracks into mono files and stereo tracks into stereo files. -
I imported a movie into iMovie 11 from a Canon Vixia HFR 300 SD card with no problem. I have a new iMac running OsX 18.8.4 I think. I added chapter markers and shared it with iDVD. And burned it to a DVD. Towards the end of this 30 minute movie the sound just stops. I do remember some screen came up when I wanted to burn DVD that said something was wrong with files but I couldn't figure what do to fix it and allowed me to continue. Any ideas?
Hi
Either the problem is in iMovie or in iDVD
two notes
No Audio in iMovie
Most common origin is use of audio from iTunes.
Work around -
• Select needed audio to one new playlist
• Copy out this as an Audio-CD .aiff (not .mp3)
• Use this in the movie-project
Other origins are
1. strange / alient file formats as -
• .mp3, .avi, .wmv etc
• Convert them into .aiff 48kHz 16-bit and use this
2. the Mac is set wrongly in regard of midi -
• Close iMovie and other programs
• Start GarageBand
• Make a new GB-project and play some notes
• Close GB and Save
• Now try iMovie again
3. No audio when playback in iMovie 1 to HD 6.
a. in iMovie pref. - deselect ” Playback via Camera”
b. in System preferences - see that Audio out is not set to zero. Mine often does this
without me knowing why.
4. iMovie’08 & 09 & 11
• Toggle audio-scimming by cmd-K
Stuttering audio and video
1. FileVault is ON - Turn it off
2. More than 50 audio files in a movie-project
Mix down to one audio clip
3. Project is stored on one (USB) external hard disk - should be a FireWire one
4. the External hard disk is not Mac OS Extended formatted - but
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange and this will not work for Video.
5. To little free space on internal boot hard disk.
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space when project is imported and edited and this goes for
4x3 SD Video. For 16x9 HD my guess would be about 5 times more at least.
Neither Mac OS, iMovie or iDVD can address any other hard disk than the boot drive for it’s
scratch files. (Unlike Final Cut Express/Pro where You select scratch disk/s)
6. Network storage - DOESN’T WORK
No audio on DVD disc.
Most common origin.
1. Imported audio from iTunes.
• In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
• Use this in Your movie project
2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
(iM’08 & 09)
3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
Minuscular - - 176x144
Mobile - - - - - 480x360
Medium - - - - 640x480
Large - - - - - - 720x540 960x540
HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
• Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
6. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
Before burning the DVD.
• Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
• Double click on the .img file
• Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
• In iDVD 08 - or - 09
• Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
•OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

Videos plays fine on camera, but stops when capturing
Hello again folks, I have recorded about 18 minutes of talking to camera in a tuition situation and when I play it back on camera there is a small section that has got 'lost'*, but the following plays just fine for the rest of the video. When I capture that 18 mins clip, when it gets to the bit that's lost, it freezes for several minutes and the rest of the footage and the audio are totally out of sync.
* I assumed either the camera, a Panasonic NVGS330 mini DV machine, needed the heads cleaning, and I've bought and used a cleaning tape, and/or the tape itself has had too much use, and I need to get new tapes!
First question; is it possible to rescue the rest of the video, given I could do without the few seconds lost as seen on the camera? I'd like to use the rest if possible because its always hard to recreate the talk a second time...
Second question; is it likely to be either or both the heads or the tape? Cleaning the heads in itself didn't clear the problem.
Umpteen thanx as always...
StephenYes.
Toggle the menu/Display so you can see the timecode display.
Look for a section that returns to 00:00:00:00 after it's been counting up, this is the most common form of timecode break.
On rare occasions you may have two numbers doubled up which also may get FCE in a twist.
Timecode breaks are usually caused by cueing and reviewing footage on the camera and not being aware of the consequences such as TC breaks.
Srtiping the tape with TC is one way to avoid problems. This means recording the whole tape with the lens cap on and audio to 0.

MP4 Plays Fine in Quicktime, but Audio Lags Near Clip's End in WMP. Huh?
This is weird. I've made several MP4s in Premiere Pro CS6, some only 10 minutes long, and the audio goes a bit out of sync (lagging behind) only in WMP, not Quicktime, when playing the rendered MP4. QT plays it all just fine. Is there something needing to be set in Premiere or AME to make it all stay sync'ed and play fine in any player?
Quick backstory: I shoot 1920x1080p DSLR video at 24fps (23.97#) and I capture audio separately on a Tascam portable at 24-bit 96kHz (which is think is 29.97) and toss it onto a Pr Pro CS6 timeline. I do use the cruddy camera audio just for syncing then ALT+Click to separate the camera's audio track and delete it, leaving the now-synced good audio in place. Then I toss a few transitions and effects (mostly color grading) on the video, nothing fancy, and export out an .MP4 from Premiere which of course fires up AME. I think the problem is the preset I'm picking. A screenshot of my AME settings is attached. I am using one of the presets for Apple TV/iPad/iPhone which is basically renders the video down to 1280x720p with H.264 compression (no surprise that Quicktime plays it back without issue). I'm assuming a codec comes into play here, or just WMP being stupid? I know what a codec is but I don't Premiere which one to use (I assume you can), so if that's the answer please elaborate a bit when you answer, lol. I'm a seasoned photographer and a fairly green video editor (and a lousy video shooter, lol!).
As a further test, I sent the timeline out to an MP4 again but this time I simply chose H.264 and picked the HD 23.976 1080p preset which does use different VBR, etc. That video plays fine in both, but a 10-minute MP4 is almost 2GB! I was hoping for something in the 100mb-150mb range so I could YouSendIt out to people, and the lousy AppleTV/iPhone 4 720p H.264 preset does give me a filesize in that range.
Any thoughts on what to set to get a workable filesize of <200mb with a 720p clip that actually works in WMP as well as QT? I hope I'm even asking the question correctly.
Thanks!Harm, I didn't pay attention to those settings, I should have. I got hung up in the preset names and figured those were my only choices. How green I am, lol. I made a preset with a Target of 4 (max 6) and VBR 1 Pass, and I knocked the audio down to 128K being it's just speech, and it all worked great. The new file plays in both players perfectly and also plays on my iPad with no jitter. Filesize is about 240mb but that's fine, it works. Problem solved and in the books. BTW, I use a GTX570.
Jim, I agree, VLC is super, it was the only player that would play 5D Mark II files right out of camera back in 2008, on my dual core Dell laptop with a cheesy Nvidia 7900 graphics card. Problem is, the majority of people I'm sending these MP4s to are Mums & Dads in our church, etc, and you know quite well that those folks are running some consumer Dell or HP setup they bought at Costco on closeout.
Funny backstory, when the 5D2 came out in Sept 2008, that was what thrust me into video. So I immediately bought the Prod Premium CS4 Suite (already owned Photoshop for a few years being a stills guy) and installed it on that Dell 17" laptop I mentioned above. After getting the 5D2 finally in Jan 2009, I actually had the nerve to take my first attempt at creating a video in Premiere and encoding it on that laptop. I literally had to kill AME partway through because I was seconds away from burning out my processor (I had been using RealTemp because of how hot that thing ran using Word, lol). It was that event that made me convince myself to start researching how to build a real editing PC (using an i7 920 at the time). I probably drove Harm nuts back then with all my questions, lol! But this rig has been my workhorse and has been through countless upgrades, the only thing remaining from the original 2009 build is the case and the power supply.
I know, you guys didn't need all that info, just felt like shooting the breeze. Thanks again! -
I cannot upload my iMovie video to Facebook, etc. I cannot even attach it to an email, an 'error' message comes up when almost complete. It plays fine in imovies, VLC, mplayerx. Confused, is the file damaged somehow?
The Deskjet series printers connect to wireless networks with what is called USB to Wireless.
You will need a supported operating system to connect a Deskjet to a wireless network. Supported operating systems to connect the printer to a wireless network are Windows 7 (32bit and 64bit), Windows Vista (32bit and 64bit), and Mac OS X (10.5, 10.6, and 10.7).
While there is a software download option for Linux distributions, this is not the full featured software that is capable of adding the printer to a wireless network. Most printers have a wireless setup wizard to accomplish this task, but the Deskjet series printers connect in a different way.
Once the printer is connected to a wireless network, HPLIP 3.12.4 drivers should be able to locate the printer.
Click on Installing the Product Software for a Wireless Network Connection to receive instructions to connect to a wireless network using Windows and Mac operating systems.
Click on Software & Driver Downloads - HP Deskjet 3070A e-All-in-One Printer - B611a to download the appropriate software for a supported operating system to connect to a wireless network.

Download and install the Audio driver on the link below.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50720.exe
When this installation has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

I made an iMovie, 6.0.3 using music from iTunes and photos from the Internet. It looked fine on iMovie, but when I uploaded it to youtube, some of the photo near the beginning were corrupted on youtube. I tried a different photo, and the corruption took place at the same moment of the video. How do I prepare the video for export to get it ready for youtube? I wasn't sure whether to clik web or web streaming. Am I supposed to clik Quick Time after I clik Share?
I unfortunately cannot remember where I got the 'trrndlines' plugin... I assume that it must have been from CFX (as it is located under /Users/Dom/Library/iMovie/Plug-ins/cfx/XXXtrrndlines.bundle).
As for what it does, I also do not know, as I do not think I ever used it in my previous video projects.
At this stage, I think I just need to uninstall it so that iMovie doesnt try to use it.
Do you know how to uninstall a CFX plugin in iMovie?
NOTE: I have re-installed iMovie 6.0.4 (instead of iMovie 6.0.3), but still encounter the same issue. -
No audio in Quicktime or Frontrow. Video plays fine in VLC.
Hi,
I have some xvid videos. They play fine in VLC. They don'y play audio in Frontrow or Quicktime. Stream 1 mpga audio codec. I can't find a solution to this. Also have some video off a sony recorder which again will play in VLC but isn't recognised as a movie file has extn .mpg. Audio is a52 and video mpgv. Have looked through forums someone solved this but hasn't given solutions.
MikeI had the same problem - downloaded Xvid movies play fine in VLC, but have no audio in Front Row.
Try this for a quick free solution: http://www.perian.org/
Fixing this sort of codec issue with Windows Media Centre would usually take me about 3 days. This took 3 minutes now I have a Mac. -
Videos won't play in Safari. Notice says, "You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video." I have downloaded it, but no change. All videos play OK in Firefox, but I like the controls in Safari better and want to stay with it.

Why do some videos play fine on Facebook while others have only audio with a green screen?
Why do some videos play fine on Facebook while others have only audio with a green screen?
Hi,
Green screens are almost always indicative of a video driver issue. Could you please post the contents of your "Display Devices" section after generating a DXDiag report?
What is a Dxdiag report and how do I run one?
I suspect you might have an out of date video driver. This FAQ can help you learn the steps required to update:
Windows: how do I update the device driver for my video/display adapter?
Finally, if the driver update does not help, try disabling hardware acceleration using the steps outlined here:
How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration?
Thanks,

I have a MacBook Pro and I created a movie using imovie but once I put the DVD back into my computer it said it was blank! Why?
Please HELP!!!!AFAIK, you can't author a DVD using iMovie - again, AFAIK, you need authoring software such as iDVD or Toast Titanium or something similar.

Plays fine in IMOVIE and IDVD but disk doesn't play right in home DVD Playe
I created a movie in IMovie and it plays fine there. I converted it to IDVD and it plays fine there, but when I burn the actual DVD, it takes 12 hours! and then it won't play on my home DVD player. (It starts out fine, shows the menu and has the movie, but halfway through it freezes. Or if I try to fast forward to skip to the next chapter it freezes.
I tried upgrading my Superdrive to the new Pioneer 111D (it was suggested to me that my older 103 was not compatible with Panther) and still the same problem.
I am noticing now that when I go to check my system profiler, it's now saying for the new Pioneer 111D that "disc burning is NOT supported".
I'm in the midst of a project and feeling pretty screwed. HELP!First of all, I'm appreciating all the responses and help. This is a serious concern for me which I need to find a solution for asap.
As far as the media itself... the discs are TDK DVD- and I've ruined about 4 or 5 of them... each having the same problem...taking 12 hours to burn they play for awhile on a commercial DVD player then freezes up about 2/3rds the way through (unless you try to scan through, in which case it freezes up on the spot.) There are a total of 3 scenes... and the 3rd scene doesn't happen at all in the final burned disc. So, J.Keller, as much as I'd love to blame the media I don't think I can. But it's certainly a reasonable explanation.
Karsten, I have to tell you the thought that it might actually take LONGER to butn this disc is painful. It's actually only 45 minutes or so of material. But if I knew that it would take 24 hours but it would work perfectly I'd go for it! I will download the patch you recommend to see if it offers a workaround solution.
But I'm still perplexed that in the SYSTEM PROFILER for the Pioneer 111D it says that "burning is NOT supported". Should I be concerned about this?
At this point I'll try just about anything. So if J Keller thinks that by waving a dead chicken over my head while singing dixie would help create a workable DVD so I can finish this project for my boss, I'd give it a try.
Any other thoughts? I really appreciating the insights and suggestions.

Brand new rMBP wouldn't start out of box without charger
Just got my 6th rMBP (all previous 5 were returned for various reasons such as yellowish display, poor battery, creaking, etc). This one is the 15" 2.3 16gb 512gb model whereas the other rMBP were all base 15" models. When i tried to start this rMBP
