Video problems/settings -- cannot edit

im having video problems and the most relevent time i experience them is when playing video games
i know this may not seem the right place, but ive checked all the publisher's websites and their help is very limited, at least for mac anyway.
the thing is, it has occurred before many years ago, on a couple of distinct games, while i was using os 9. and now it has come back to haunt me in os x
1) one game, named 'warcraft 3' for those who know it, usually loads with an opening video and ever since some preferences were changed (all those years ago - i cant remember how) it only showed a blank white screen whenever the resolution adjusted for the purpose of showing any cinematics. this happens in both os 9 and os x
2) in the game 'quake 3' (which also opens up with trailers) it gets worse because whenever i load it in os x it goes to a blank screen and from then on no frantic clicking or escape buttons work. only applealtesc (force quit) force quits it, and strangely pressing enter does the same. The weirdest part is that now it works fine in os 9 with all the trailers and all, but in os x this event doesnt even allow me to play the game itself.
i feel strongly somehow that the problems are related, probably because of the omenous blank screen that comes up attempting to run each one
does anyone know anything of these settings and how i might change them?
i have a sneaking suspicioun that it has something to do with at least one of the following:
openGL (which i understand doesnt apply in os x cuz its integrated into the framework of the OS), resolution and refresh rate (i.e. hz), and perhaps rendering to throw in a loose term
for reference, i have none but the basic graphics (/cards) i.e. the ones that came with the machine, and the cinematics have worked on the first game in both operating systems, whilst i cannot recall ever running the second game in os x

cannot change refresh rate in system prefs as it says 'N/A' in the greyed down drop down box
if i at some point put the refresh rate too high in one of the games or during a cinematic / in the application that runs the cinematics is there no way i can change that outside of the application/game?

JDI: Cannot EDIT a java source file in a loaded, inactive DC

I have finished JDI Scenario 2+. I have since built a new workspace and imported my Development Configuration. I would now like to edit the java code and do a re-deployment.
Problem: I cannot Edit the file; it is read-only. I was able to edit the file from a different workspace yesterday, at which time when I typed in the editor I was prompted to create and activity and I did. I did NOT mark it for exclusive check-out.
Since then I have done a REVERT on that activity,but I still cannot edit this file in my second new wrokspace. In the context menus, in the DTR sub-menu, the EDIT selections are always grayed-out.
So, can someone advise how I can get the EDIT selections to be not grayed-out so that I can edit this file in the Java editor?

Hi Mike,
You are right, and the instructions are wrong: the "Create Project" must be done from the "Inactive DCs" view (for the sources to be editable).
The "Active DCs" view will give you sources from the "active" workspace (containing all "activated" sources), which is read-only. For DCs you work on (and modify), you should sync sources from the "Inactive DCs" view, and for DCs you depend on you should sync archives/sources from the "Active DCs" view.
I have requested for a correction of this error in our documentation.

Workgroup Manager cannot edit any settings

Authenticating correctly even local but in Workgroup Manager I cannot edit any settings, has anyone ran into this I can't find any help for this issue.

We have this problem often.
It happens when we either change an IP address on a NIC, or when we unplug a network cable etc.
I'm not sure what the proper way to resolve the issue is, but this is what we do.
1. Log in a Root
2. Load Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions
3. Reboot the server (there has to be another option for this?)
4. Log in again and load the Workgroup Manager. Everything should be okay.
If anyone knows a more elegant way to handle this, please post the info as it doesn't seem that great having to do these steps everytime a slight configuration change is made.

I transferred all my Itunes music from an old PC to my new one with Windows 7. Now I cannot edit "artist" or anything else for the songs. It is all greyed out and I cannot enter information. Is there any way to correct this problem?

It's a permissions problem. Try this: right click on your iTunes icon and choose "run as administrator" that might fix it.

N93 golf edition video problems

Hi,
just bought a N93 golf edition i had great expectations on this mobile, but whe i use Pro Golf i'm not satisfied with video quality. settings are higher possible but still i get an image where the club is not showing in slow motion. maybe i have to check something else? anyone uses it and can see the golf club swinging always? like a normal camcoder?
pls help i have to use this with my students to show them their errors during the swing

Aside from the installed Golf software the phones are both the same. The Golf software will be available for other S60 3rd edition devices in the the near future according to the S60 podcast with the developer.

I bought Quick Time Pro to help edit videos and now cannot SEE any video through my Quick Time Player

I can hear the audio for each video BUT the window for SEEING the videos does not open- it remains "closed" on top of the start/stop/pause controller. HOW can I fix this so I can also see the videos I want to edit?
It worked fine the day I uploaded and began using Quick Time Pro, but has not since that day....

If it is still slow after removing Symantec, you may need a RAM upgrade. Yosemite can run very poorly on older machines with only 4 GB RAM.

Cannot edit email address in sync settings in android firefox. BUG

If the email address is incorrect, I think I have a space in front, you cannot verify and firefox will not let you edit or delete until it is verified. I am left in no mans land.

You can delete the account from this link [about:accounts].
However you will need to create a new account with the email with no space in front in order to receive a verification email.
This is expected. At this time you cannot edit the account name after it has been created.

A/V settings - missing video playback settings

I am a new FCP user (5 months) but have not been having too much trouble. I have been on Avid for 5 years plus; Thursday I imported some Avid NTSC 720/480 footage into Final Cut (29.97 fps of course) - which displays successfully. But now I cannot return to the settings I need to edit material in HDV 23.98 fps projects. The video playback settings for HDV 24p 60i are now all missing/deselected. What is more, the program is crashing a lot. No sound, no video playback. Clearly we need to make different projects in different admin users for Avid product - but how do we get our settings back? Help!

There is no such thing as HDV 24p60i... it's one or the other. In fact, you should be able to import or capture that material, place a clip in any sequence, and FCP will ask you if you'd like to set the sequence's settings to match the clip's properties, and you simply say yes.
Where are you having the problem? Which camera was used? There is an "easy setup" for HDV cameras, but they are different a bit from camera to camera... Sony is different than Canon for example... might try those too.
Try trashing your preferences for FCP found in User/library/preferences/fcp user data folder. There are three red and white icon'd files there. Just trash them, and they will rebuild to factory settings when you relaunch FCP.

YouTube always provides people with raw video materials on all sorts of things happened worldwide in real time. It's a clip from CNN (with all credits etc. added). When one refers to it as a clip posted on "YouTube", then people understand the quality will be poor.

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
*1. Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
*2. Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
*3. A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
*4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
*5. A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Weird Video problem and kernel panic!

Okay, so last ngiht I was running tech tool maintenence, and I had repair on. So, it finished scanning my startup volume (I was on my eDrive) and then I shut down and restarted. Now, it tried to start from my startup volume (tiger 4.7, with latest updates) and it says you need to restart your computer (which means there is a kernel panic, am I right?) I try safe mode to no avail, I even reset the PMU and reset the PRAM (but I didnt hear the starup noise again). So, I put in my backup HD, and it starts up, but wait! Now the video is horribly wrong! It is all in TERRIBLE quality and in mostly only greys, I mean it looks like a 4 mb vram video card, there are very few pixels of color( there are some intermitedly) and there is terrible ghosting, and I can barely read anything. so, I checked my display, and universal access settings, and fooled around with those, and nothing happened. So, now I try and start from my eDriveand it start, but now it has the same horrible color problem as my other drive. Oh boy, this is a new computer, and I already have a kernel pnic, and a video problem, what can I do? Thanks for any help. Matthew. I have a sawtooth, a radeon 9200 flashed video card, and the latest tiger.

What if you tried running mplayer with the following command :
mplayer -fs -zoom filename
As for the "too pixelish" problem well... you could try increasing the "nice" level (at least in VLC). For the other video players I don't know.

I had posted this problem under iTunes, but mentors there suggested instead I connect it to a video problem

So, the problem is that I cannot get any other view in iTunes other than LIST. The grid view is completely non functional and is grayed out. The cover flow only shows as a black screen without any logo (such as the familiar music symbol). I never had this problem in iTunes until I upgraded to 8.1.
It is curious that when I select tunes from my **own playlists*, the grid view appears both in the "view choices" and its respective icon is NOT grayed out. That does not happen when I select genious playlist: then the icon is grayed out and there is a grayed out "View choice" in the pull down menu. The same problem exists in my own playlists whenever I select cover flow, however. It is always black without any images or logos displayed. It's an active choice in the pull down menu, and you can click on its icon...but nothing appears.

As best I can tell, my iMac meets all criteria. However, it is not clear to me that it meets the criteria for playing videos (processor speed). I can't tell what this processor speed is; where do I discover that? Under "About this Mac," it says I have *_512 MB SDRAM_*; is that the answer that denies this functionality?

Perhaps, but this is not obvious to me. As I posted earlier, iTunes demonstrated cover flow capability in its prior version. Did it change once 8.1 and now 8.1.1 came out?
