Video requirements for X-Fi 2

Does anybody know what the requirements are for a video to be playable on the X-Fi 2?
I ask because, although my new X-Fi 2 is apparently meant to play MP4s, Creative Centrale insists on converting them to WMVs. I've tried converting video files with WMVs using the excellent Super Converter program, using as similar a profile as possible, but again it insists on converting those too. And the conversion process is annoyingly long (5 minutes to do the same thing Super does in 20 seconds - this is 2.2ghz with 4gb memory, so it's not the PC).
I've tried simply dragging-and-dropping my files using windows, but then they don't show up in the player. So it seems the only way to put videos on is using Centrale, which given the slowness is very disappointing.

I tried Format Factory, Ulead Video Studio, Divx, Danuisoft, VirtualDubMod, DVDx, MediaCoder, AutoGordianKnot, and I forget what else, but the only thing that gave me usable results was Handbrake 0.9.3.
Make sure you install the Xvid codec first, then install Handbrake. The settings I use are:
Picture Settings
=========================
Crop: Automatic
Width/Height: for most movies 480x272, for normal TV, use 640x480
Anamorphic: for most movies and TV use None - for widescreen? Anamorphic:Strict
Video
=========================
Format: AVI File
Video Codec: MPEG-4 (Xvid)
Framerate : same as source (or you could experiment)
Avg Bitrate: 600
Audio
=========================
Track:usually first English audio track
Codec: MP3
Mixdown: Stereo
Samplerate: 44.
Bitrate: 28
Sometimes you might need to do a test of the first 2% to be sure. For example, I encoded a movie (.78 as strict, and the X-Fi2 didn't even recognize it, so I just changed it to 480x272, and it worked. But strict is really good for widescreen (2.35.
I'd say this works about 80% of the time. Everything else I tried gave bad results, or didn't work at all.

    Hi Lionel,
As a general rule of thumb, the ATI Rage 128 Pro will not support a 20" LCD. That being said, there are reports of it doing just that (possibly the edition that went into the cube).
I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of the Cube, so I can't give you authoritative information on it.

    Please advise. Many Thanks.

Out of the box, 1024-65535 for all of the client ports.  :)
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398833.aspx
You'll want to tune your client ports a bit
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204760.aspx as seen here, and then the client ports would use those ranges which is easier to set QoS markings.  I'm not sure the mobile clients respect that setting.
Elan's got the best writeup for Windows clients here:
    http://www.shudnow.net/2013/02/16/enabling-qos-for-lync-server-2013-and-various-clients-part-1/
However, the marking of the packets is the tricky part.  Windows can do it via Group Policy, but for the other clients you'll need to have the network specifically prioritize ports regardless of DSCP markings.  You have to do it based on ports
as the traffic could be peer to peer.

  • Steep System Requirements for HD Video

Did anyone notice the system requirements for HD video in iTunes 8?
"Playing HD-quality videos purchased on the iTunes Store requires a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor"
and "Playing videos also requires at least 16MB of video RAM"
I'm not sure if the video RAM requirement would mean that any Mac with integrated graphics would be excluded or not.
On CPU requirements alone, my 1.83 GHz MBP and certainly my iMac G5 are excluded, but it also excludes the current base Mac Mini (often purchased as a media center) and either version of the MacBook Air.
I plan to experiment to see if an HD video I buy from iTunes will play smoothly on my MBP, but I'm a little confused as to why the requirements are so steep. My MBP certainly has the processing power to play HD video. It can play any of the HD trailers from Apple.

I have a 2.0 GHz Imac early 2006 with the original Core Duo. I'm buying 5 episodes from Eureka Season 3. I played a few minutes of the first one, and it seemed fine. It uses about 100% of one processor. Using 100% on a single processor system would be a big problem, because any minor peak would make it run out of juice. But 100% of one processor on a 2-core system should be fine as long as it's using both cores. At any rate, in a short test things looked fine.
If it's really using threads properly it looks to me like even the 1.83 GHz Core Duo might work.

The default is inter-region max video call bit rate is 384K, close to one video call.
The default Interregion max video call bit rate is 384K.
The bandwidth would depend on the resolution being used. The recommended bandwidth for resolutions are as follow:
    VGA 360p@30fps: 768 - 2000kbps
    VGA 360p@15fps: 448 - 767kps
    CIF@30fps: 320 - 447kbps
    CIF@15fps: 256 - 319kbps
    QCIF@30fps: 128kbps – 255kbps
    QCIF@15fps: 64 - 127kbps
And 9971 IP Phone supports below formats:
    SQCIF (128 x 96 pixels)
    QCIF (176 x 144 pixels)
    QVGA (320 x 240 pixels)
    SIF (352 x 240 pixels)
    CIF (352 x 288 pixels)
    VGA (640 x 480 pixels)

  • Bandwidth required for Lync 2013 audio video call

    Hi,
what is the required bandwidth required for  lync 2013 audio video call from out side of company network. considering users will use owa integration with exchange 2013  for audio video call.
i tried with lync bandwidth calculator but could not figure it out.
actually i have some remote site where users have connectivity of 160 kbps only.

There are a number of variables such as call type and video resolution, but I would suggest using this table as a guide:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj688118.aspx
For example for capacity purposes with a Lync peer-to-peer call you're looking at 57Kbps (86 with FEC)

  • Total Bandwidth requirement for 720p 30fps video call to mcu 5300 and P2P call

    Hi All,
One of customer purchased 5300 MCU VCSC and VCSE from us.
All infra will be setup in their HQ and all endpoints are from internet. All endpoints will register to VCSE.
customer requirements are 5 concurrent encrypted calls to MCU with 720p 30fps and point to point 10 concurrent encrypted calls.
endpoints are cisco c series endpoints and polycom HDX endpoinds.
They haven't  subscribe the line yet. we need to propose the minimum bandwidth requirement to customer.
    1) what is the minimum bandwidth requirements to achieve 720p 30fps encrypted call to MCU?
    2) what is the total bandwidth requirements for 5 concurrent encrypted calls to MCU?
    3) what is the total load of bandwidth requirements for 5 concurrent encrypted calls to MCU and  point to point 10 concurrent encrypted calls?
    Thanks advance for you answer!

point to point 10 concurrent encrypted calls?
Even with a miltisite license installed on the codec to enable the built in bridge on the endpoint, you're only going to be able to connect up to 3 sites max, the endpoint hosting the conference that has the multisite option + 3 others. You'll have to rely on the MCU to host these conferences.

  • Incorrect and Un-Changeable 'Video Kind' for Videos Purchased From iTMS

Since I can't seem to find any other way to contact Apple except through paid support channels, their suggestion is to post something here. Hopefully this re-wording of other posts I've read will shed more light on the problem.
    To Apple:
Some videos purchased from the iTunes music store have an incorrect 'Video Kind' which means they are sorted incorrectly in iTunes using Apple's new interface in version 7.
Old Battlestar Galactica episodes have a 'Video Kind' of 'Movie' instead of 'TV Show', so they don't appear in the iTunes smart category as TV shows. They appear in 'Movies', and they shouldn't.
The field for these files is locked/ghosted/unchangeable, I'm assuming because of ridiculous DRM requirements or an oversight. But you are enforcing rules which cause your program to incorrectly sort files, and not allowing your customers to fix the problem.
I want all my TV shows to list in your 'TV Shows' top category, but I can't change the 'Video Kind' for those files (bought via the iTunes music store). I have expected this problem to work itself out in the last few iTunes updates, but it hasn't yet. And there are many threads about this in your discussion forums.
Please unlock the 'Video Kind' field in iTunes for videos downloaded from the iTunes music store (Prison Break Season 1, Battlestar Galactica, The Office Season 1, Surface, etc), or give us some kind of utility that will allow us to correct the mis-categorization.
    Thank you!
    -Tony

I quite agree. I'm not sure how much attention, if any, the iTunes dev. team pay to these groups however. The formal feedback route is via iTunes Feedback, where sadly, I suspect, not much attention is paid either.

  • What s-video cable for a DVI to S-Video adapter

    Hi,
I have an old MiniG4 lying around, which I thought I'd make into a media centre.
I bought the Apple DVI to Video Adapter (<http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A>) which is specifically for a Mac Mini and I thought that I had an s-video cable too, but clearly I have the wrong one.
The cable I have, has a single plug at one end and the red/white/yellow plugs at the other end. The single plug is a headphone-jack style, but with 3 yellow connector 'stripes' instead of the usual 2 black ones, but this plug doesn't fit in the DVI Adapter's yellow socket. It's too wide.
Can anyone tell me what cable I need to work with the DVI Adapter? Should it be 2 plugs to 3, or 1 plug to 3? (I'm in Europe, if that changes anything)
(Why don't Apple tell you what you need on the product page at the Apple store???)

    Thanks for the replies.
I found the correct cables ... really dumb that Apple sell adapters but doesn't tell you what is required for them to work.
Anyway, it works really well. I was surprised at how good the output is. Just like the original DVD. The only place I can see any artefacts is on a totally black screen. Should it be of interest to anyone else reading, I used Handbrake on preset AppleTV but with FFMPEG instead of H624 (which took incredibly long to encode) and choosing to maintain aspect ratio and 100% quality.
I'm also using the iPhone to control via Apple's 'Remote' iPhone app and I bought 'Rowmote' as well, which gives more control.
The G4 Mini is the 'stealth' version, the last one they made with a slightly faster processor and a more capable video card. It's adequately powerful for running the movies and acting a media hub.
All in all, I'm quite happy.

  • "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed..."

I realize my explanation of my problem is long-winded, so if you want a shortened version, here it is:
I've followed all the instructions trying nearly everything, and no matter what I do, iTunes gives me the error saying: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software." My G5 iPod (60GB) works on two other computers (both without any music on them), so I assume there something wrong with my computer and not the iPod itself.
Now for the long-winded story of the last eight hours of my life...
I just got the Generation-5 iPod Video (60GB) a today and I'm having problems already. I followed the instructions and installed the iPod software and then plugged in my iPod (iTunes has been on my computer for a while now). I was expecting iTunes to open after plugging in the iPod, but my device manager only detected and installed "a new device". I manually opened iTunes and got an error saying: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
After re-installing the iPod software and iTunes, and restarting my computer countless times, I came looking for help here. I found this page, which seemed to outline my problem exactly. My computer recognizes the iPod as a drive, but iTunes won't have anything to do with it. I have all the symptoms outlined in the heading, so I hoped to solve my problem there. I followed the instructions step-by-step, and after the final restart, I open iTunes to get the same exact error message.
I decided to determine whether there was a problem with my iPod or if it was my computer. I plugged my iPod into my uncles's powerbook, and got to the point where I can name and configure my iPod. I expected it to work flawlessly on a Mac (which it did) but there is no way for me to continue using a Mac (after tomorrow) for my iPod. This formatted the iPod for a Mac, so I went to another (different from the original) Windows computer, clean of any iTunes and iPod software, and followed the instructions exactly as they're supposed to be followed. After the installations, I plugged in my iPod, and although iTunes didn't open, I was able to format back to Windows and name my iPod (a step in the right direction). I should note that my (anti-iPod) computer is a Windows XP Pro, and the working one is Windows XP Home Edition. This was all well and good, until I remembered there was no music on this computer. So my iPod is completely working there, but there isn't anything I can do with it.
Next, I came back here and browsed around the discussion boards, hoping to find somebody with a similar problem to mine. There seems to be alot of errors concerning iTunes not recognizing the iPod, but none of the solutions I tried worked for me, including changing the drive letter. I get the "iPod Service Error" while trying to restore to factory settings through iPod updater.
Of course, I could transfer all 32GB of music from one computer to another, but the second (working) computer isn't mine and I won't have access to it in a couple months. It would be most convenient if I could get my iPod working on my own computer. Any help would be appreciated, especially from somebody who has solved this problem or know how to solve this problem.
    P.S.
Here are some other minor details that my be important, but I didn't feel they were worth including.
    - My brother has his iPod mini set up on my computer, under a different user login. He gets the same error once in a while, but re-installing iTunes always solves the problem for him. I had him try solving my problem his way, but nothing worked for him either.
    - My computer is an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+, 512MB RAM with Windows XP Pro SP2 installed. My internal hard drive is partitioned, using the letters C, D and H (C being my system files, D used for recovery files and H for my applications and games). My E drive is used as a DVD/CD-ROM Drive, and drives F and G are reserved for virtual drives (none have been running during this entire ordeal). My external hard drive uses the letter I, and I manually set my iPod to use the letter J (I've never used 'J' for anything else before).
    - Yes, I have downloaded and installed the latest versions of iTunes and the iPod software.
    - I'm assuming there is a problem with my computer and not my iPod, since it worked on both other computers I tried. I'm hoping it's as simple as changing a registry file or cleaning out (yet another) temp directory.

Solution to "Software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed"!
I battled this same problem for about 5 hours. Going through re-installations, the "5 R's", all these discussion boards. Nothing worked.
The problem is that iPodService was repeatedly crashing after minute or so. You can verify this by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Delete and noting that iPodService is missing from the process list (sort by image name), or by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting "Manage", then going to Services and checking out the IPodService service - if it gives you the option to "Start", then it's not running.
    Here is what worked.
    1. De-install iTunes and iPod (if you have the updater installed) completely by going to Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs. Also delete the C:\Program Files\iTunes and c:\Progam Files\iPod\bin directories. (Don't worry, this doesn't affect your saved music files.)
    2. Log in as an Administrator
    3. Go into the registry (note this is dangerous - you should be careful) and remove the iPod entries that the uninstaller misses.
3.1 Go to Start menu --> Run.
    3.2 Type in "regedit".
    3.3 Go to HKEYCLASSESROOT --> IPodService.iPodManager.
There are two keys here, iPodManager and iPodManager.1. In my case, I did not have permission to view either of these. I think this is the root cause of the problem. I think the installer can't properly update these because it doesn't have permission. So you need to change the permissions:
    3.4 Right-click on IPodService.IPodManager
3.4.1 Select "Permissions..." A warning will appear saying you don't have permission, but that you can change permissions.
3.4.2 On the window that launches, click on "Advanced..."
3.4.3 Click on the "Owner" tab.
3.4.4 Select a valid account (the one you're logged in under) under "Change Owner To".
    3.4.5 Hit "OK".
3.4.6 Back on the main Permissions window, hit Add and add the same account as a valid user.
3.4.6.1 Where it says "Enter the object names to select", type in the account name, e.g. "Smith".
3.4.7 Click on the "Allow" checkboxes for "Full Control" and "Read".
    3.4.8 Hit "OK".
3.5 Repeat procedure for the "iPodManager.1" key.
3.6 Now right-click and delete both of these keys.
I think that's all that's required, but I also searched through the registry and deleted the following keys.
    4. Other keys I deleted:
    4.1 HKEYCLASSESROOT --> IPodManager.IPodManagerUI.1
4.2 HKEYLOCALMACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Apple Computer Inc. --> iPod
I think that's all I deleted, but I'm not positive. I seached for instances of "ipod" using the Find... and Find Next functions under the Edit menu.
    5. Exit out of the registry editor.
    6. Re-install iTunes. I re-installed iTunes and reconnected the iPod, and everything worked.
I want to repeat that editing the registry can completely mess up your computer if you modify the wrong things, so only do this if you're comfortable, and be extremely careful.
    Hopefully this helps!
Apple support people: assuming this works, please add it to your solutions page, and feel free to reimburse me for spending half of Christmas figuring this out.

  • Dual Monitor video cards for HP Pro 3400

I am looking to add a 2nd monitor to my HP Pro 3400 MT and want to make sure I get a video card that will not have any compatibility issues.  I'm not doing any gaming so I don't think I need anything super fancy and I would prefer not to have to upgrade the power supply.
    So my questions are:
Is the HP Pro 3400 MT compatible witha PCI Express 3.0 card?  2.1 ?
How much power draw from the video card would require me to upgrade the power supply (my PC is stock, no added peripherals).  Is there a way for me to determine how much is being currently (no pun intended) drawn?
Are there any drawbacks to usnig the built-in video card for 1 monitor and a new, single-ouput card for the other (vs a dual-output card) ?
Anything else I need to consider when deciding on a new video card?
    Thanks.

  • Error 1074395241: The template descriptor does not contain data required for rotation-invariant matching.

    Hello all,
I am using the IMAQ Match Pattern 4 to detect the rotation angle of a template image. However, it shows the error: "Error 1074395241: The template descriptor does not contain data required for rotation-invariant matching." What is the problem exactly? How to solve this? The details are explained below.
My project is a little bit complicated. Part of the block diagram containing the IMAQ Match Pattern 4 is shown below:
The source image is a series of frames of images read from an AVI video (I used a for loop to process the images frame by frame). The template image is a selected region of the first frame. So it means, the user selected the object of ineterst in the first frame of the video, and in each of the following frames, we need to find the matched object of interest & determine its rotation angle. When I run the block diagram shown above, it does not have any error. However, it shows the rotation angle as zero no matter what it "really" is. Therefore, I changed the block diagram by adding the parameters, shown below:
But in this case, when I run it, it shows the error that I have indicated in the subject line.
If you need more details about my project to identify the problem, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance.

I checked for all the requirements to download iTunes.
My computer meets all of them except for _2GHz Pentium class processor or better._
    My computer has only 1.90GHz.
    What does the mean?
Will i not be able to put movies in my iPod nano [Third Generation]?

That's listed as an additional video requirement, so unless you intend on watching iTunes videos on your computer, you're fine.
