Video Thumbnail Generating

Hi all,
Having immense issues with Leopard and its stupid "feature" of having to generate miniature 16x16 preview icons for each video in a directory. This is all well and good when there's 3 or 4 videos in there but I've got thousands, some of which need renaming. However, I can't rename these files, because each time a new thumbnail is generated, Leopard will remove the focus from the rename box, so by the time I've started to type the new name, it's already changed it. The only way to change the name of a file whilst this is going on is to wait until all the thumbnails are generated, or use the get info box, neither of which are ideal.
Is there any way to stop Leopard creating these thumbails? I don't much care for them at 16x16 size anyway!

While in the folder, press Command (the old Apple key)-J, which brings up View Options. De-check the box for Show Icon Preview.

  • Video Thumbnail generator

I am trying to find a way to create a playlist of videos
uploaded to a website. What I am trying to find out is, does Flash
Media Server have a component that when a video is uploaded it will
generate on the fly a jpg thumbnail of that video? What I am trying
to do is create sometime (on a much smaller scale) as youtube. Will
purchasing Flash Media Server help me accomplish that? Or does
anyone know how youtube created their thumbnail images of the
    videos?
    Thanks

No... FMS does not have such capabilities. You would need to
use a program like ffmpeg to handle the thumbnail generation ( see
    article for example:
    http://www.db75.com/blog/archives/000176.html
). I would imagine youtube does something similar.
You can also show the first frame of a video with
actionscript on the client side, by loading the video and stopping
    on the first keyframe.

  • Generating iPhoto video thumbnails?

When imovie "generates iPhoto video thumbnails" is it impporting the movie files from iphoto thus doubling up the files, or just creating a link to the original file (like an alias.)
    thanks. John

It is creating new files but they are much smaller (hence thumbnails), so that iMovie can scrub through the clips quickly. It would not work if it had to scrub through the full size movie files. Even the DV movies you import directly into iMovie from a camera create thumbnail versions to help with the speed of scrubbing.

  • How can I delete the iPhoto Video Thumbnails in iMovie?

It's been a while since I've used iMovie, and when I opened the application tonight, I got the following message:
"iMovie needs to generate thumbnails for the videos in your iPhoto library. This process may take several minutes.
You can postpone this operation by clicking Later, but your iPhoto videos will be unavailable until the next time you restart iMovie."
I accidentally hit NOW, and the process began. When I realized it had used about 5 GBs of space, I force quit iMovie, but the disk space was not reclaimed. I need this space back now... I can import the iPhoto videos later. How can I undo the generated iPhoto video thumbnails? There was no project generated, and so no folder with the thumbnails in them. Where are they located? I would like to delete the iPhoto video thumbnails within iMovie, but preserve the thumbnails for other projects. And of course I would like to be sure that I keep the videos themselves in iPhoto - I definitely do not want to lose the videos there. Thanks for your help.
    Greg

The latest incarnation of iMovie doesn't offer the 'Export with Quicktime'-options, the previous versions did.

  • Video thumbnails won't display in organizer (win 7)

after importing jpegs & mpegs into premier 8 the pics display as thumbnails but the videos do not.  Instead just a film strip icon with the name of the video.  the video wont play in the organizer.  However video thumbnails display & play if I open them in a project.  strange???!

With your MPEGs, it depends on how your system is set up and if they are compatible.
But, with JPEGs, the thumbnails simply may not have been generated yet. It takes a while (depending on how much media you have on your computer and how fast your computer is) for the Organizer to build your initial catalog and generate all of the thumbnails. Be patient. Each time you turn your Organizer on, it's working. Eventually they'll show up -- and then they'll be there for as long as you keep your catalog.
NOTE: The exception is if you are running the 64-bit version of Windows 7, which is not yet fully compatible with this program.

  • [SOLVED] KDE3: Konqueror and video thumbnails

    Hello everyone!
I have ArchLinux + KDEmod3 installed with the latest updates and I have a problem with the video thumbnails in Konqueror. By default it shows the first frame of video as preview and it is rather ugly. Most commonly it's just a black screen or something like that. I searched the Internet and found a solution - mplayerthumbs http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.ph … tent=41180. Package from AUR requires kdelibs from KDE4, so I decided to compile it from sources. It has been compiled and installed successfully. But here is the problem: Konqueror still shows previews made from the first frame! Even if I delete contents of ~/.thumbnails, the same previews will be generated. But article on kde-apps.org says that "It catches a random frame from 15% to 70%"
So how can I fix mplayerthums or is there any other way to get nice video previews in KDE3?
    Thank you.

I think solution from AUR package's page will help:
To resolve this, you have to edit the file "videopreview.cpp". Add "#include <stdlib.h>" at the top and the pakage works again.

  • No video thumbnails on nautilus

The title pretty much describes it, I'm getting no video thumbnails on nautilus, I tried following solutions proposed in some older threads on this forum with no luck, I tried installing ffmpegthumnailer, ffmpeg, and all of the gstreamer plugins, reloaded gnome as suggested, even rebooted and video thumbnails are still not being generated.
    I also tried deleting ~/.chache/thumbnails/fail .
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks in advance.

strange, for me its visible in the gear menu. I'm not using gnome shell though.
    anyway, back to the topic.
If you have totem installed, thumbnails should work out of the box. I don't really have any idea why it wouldn't unless you have messed around with something that disables it.
If you want to use ffmpegthumbnailer with nautilus, you need to create ~/.local/share/thumbnailers/totem.thumbnailer with this content something like this:
    [Thumbnailer Entry]
    TryExec=/usr/bin/ffmpegthumbnailer
    Exec=/usr/bin/ffmpegthumbnailer -s %s -i %i -o %o -c png
    #Exec=/usr/bin/ffmpegthumbnailer -s %s -i %i -o %o -c png -f #add "film"borders
    MimeType=application/mxf;application/ogg;application/ram;application/sdp;application/vnd.ms-wpl;application/vnd.rn-realmedia;application/x-extension-m4a;application/x-extension-mp4;application/x-flash-video;application/x-matroska;application/x-netshow-channel;application/x-ogg;application/x-quicktimeplayer;application/x-shorten;image/vnd.rn-realpix;image/x-pict;misc/ultravox;text/x-google-video-pointer;video/3gpp;video/dv;video/fli;video/flv;video/mp2t;video/mp4;video/mp4v-es;video/mpeg;video/msvideo;video/ogg;video/quicktime;video/vivo;video/vnd.divx;video/vnd.rn-realvideo;video/vnd.vivo;video/webm;video/x-anim;video/x-avi;video/x-flc;video/x-fli;video/x-flic;video/x-flv;video/x-m4v;video/x-matroska;video/x-mpeg;video/x-ms-asf;video/x-ms-asx;video/x-msvideo;video/x-ms-wm;video/x-ms-wmv;video/x-ms-wmx;video/x-ms-wvx;video/x-nsv;video/x-ogm+ogg;video/x-theora+ogg;video/x-totem-stream;audio/x-pn-realaudio;audio/3gpp;audio/ac3;audio/AMR;audio/AMR-WB;audio/basic;audio/midi;audio/mp2;audio/mp4;audio/mpeg;audio/ogg;audio/prs.sid;audio/vnd.rn-realaudio;audio/x-aiff;audio/x-ape;audio/x-flac;audio/x-gsm;audio/x-it;audio/x-m4a;audio/x-matroska;audio/x-mod;audio/x-mp3;audio/x-mpeg;audio/x-ms-asf;audio/x-ms-asx;audio/x-ms-wax;audio/x-ms-wma;audio/x-musepack;audio/x-pn-aiff;audio/x-pn-au;audio/x-pn-wav;audio/x-pn-windows-acm;audio/x-realaudio;audio/x-real-audio;audio/x-sbc;audio/x-speex;audio/x-tta;audio/x-wav;audio/x-wavpack;audio/x-vorbis;audio/x-vorbis+ogg;audio/x-xm;application/x-flac;

  • [SOLVED] Nautilus video thumbnails

Hi everyone! I want to generate video thumbnails with ffmpegthumbnailer in nautilus. I know i can do it by setting a command in the /gnome/thumbnailer section of gconf but i dont have keys for video thumbnails. There is only keys for fonts. Is there any way to add those video keys?
I done this once in ubuntu but now i dont want to install totem.
    Thanks.

For movies I use the imdb-thumbnailer tool (it's in AUR). If I look in the source for the code that registers the thumbnailer, I find this:
    for i in $video_extensions; do
    gconftool-2 -s "/desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/$i"/command -t string '$THUMBNAIL_COMMAND
    gconftool-2 -s "/desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/$i"/enable -t boolean 'true'
    done
Search google for the thumbnail command and google for the list of extensions.
    Good luck!

  • E17 - No mkv video thumbnails or previews

Hi all, I'm at my wit's end trying to fix this.
When using the elementary file manager, it simply will not generate video thumbnails or video previews for .mkv files (video/x-matroska), despite doing so for .avi, .mp4, .m4v, and others.
I believe I have the necessary gstreamer packages:
    pacman -Qs gstreamer
    local/gstreamer0.10 0.10.36-1
    GStreamer Multimedia Framework
    local/gstreamer0.10-bad 0.10.23-3
GStreamer Multimedia Framework Bad Plugin libraries (gst-plugins-bad)
    local/gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins 0.10.23-3 (gstreamer0.10-plugins)
GStreamer Multimedia Framework Bad Plugins (gst-plugins-bad)
    local/gstreamer0.10-base 0.10.36-1
GStreamer Multimedia Framework Base plugin libraries
    local/gstreamer0.10-base-plugins 0.10.36-1 (gstreamer0.10-plugins)
GStreamer Multimedia Framework Base Plugins (gst-plugins-base)
    local/gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.13-1 (gstreamer0.10-plugins)
    Gstreamer FFMpeg Plugin
    local/gstreamer0.10-good 0.10.31-1
GStreamer Multimedia Framework Good plugin libraries
    local/gstreamer0.10-good-plugins 0.10.31-1 (gstreamer0.10-plugins)
GStreamer Multimedia Framework Good Plugins (gst-plugins-good)
    local/gstreamer0.10-ugly 0.10.19-5
GStreamer Multimedia Framework Ugly plugin libraries
    local/gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins 0.10.19-5 (gstreamer0.10-plugins)
GStreamer Multimedia Framework Ugly Plugins (gst-plugins-ugly)
Also, looking in the 'File Icons Settings' menu, 'video/x-matroska' does not appear, which seems to imply that the filemanager isn't creating thumbnails/previews due to not recognising the filetype.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Interestingly, if I build the emotion package with xine support, I get sound output but no video output during the preview, and thumbnails are still not generated. Building the package with vlc support got no further results.

  • Putting description on video thumbnail while selecting

is it possible to make the video thumbnails to generate text description while selecting the thumbnails? I made a gif of the aspect that I want to do: http://i28.tinypic.com/2ymgfhv.gif
is it possible with encore? workaround on the button overlapping, autoactivate or scripting something?
    thanks

    Encore doesn't do scripting.
You can use autoactivate to go to a different menu that has the text for that button.  Create multiple menus.
Mouseover won't autoactivate, so doesn't work on a  computer the way you'd like.

  • No iPhoto Video Thumbnails in iMovie

    Hi Guys,
I have a problem with generated iPhoto-Video-Thumbnails in iMovie .
It seems that iMovie is not able to create Video-Thumbnails out of iPhoto-Videos, if iPhoto-contents (pictures and videos) are stored outside of iPhoto Library.
If I allow iPhoto to copy pictures and videos into iPhoto library (during import), iMovie is able to generate those Video-Thumbnails from iPhoto-Videos.
Is there any kind of workaround to solve this problem.
I'm not willing to copy my iPhoto-stuff into iPhoto library due to the new iPhoto folder-structure, which is used since iPhoto 11.
Many thanks in advance of some helping hands...

Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

  • [SOLVED] [DidiKam] How can I get video thumbnails?

I use DigiKam 1.0 from Extra under Xfce and it works fine. However it doesn't show video thumbnails.
According to http://www.digikam.org/drupal/node/143, DigiKam should be able to handle it:
Digikam uses KDE to generate thumbnails and KDE rely on aRts to do that.
So, you should check your aRts configuration. ARts can use xine plugin for video files, so try if xine is able to play your video files. You may have to use additional codecs (eg libxine-extracodecs on debian/ubuntu if you already have libarts1-xine) for that.
Try also to play your video files using xine (if libarts1-xine is installed).
Remember that if it doesn't work in konqueror, it won't work in digikam...
I couldn't find anything related to aRts in Yaourt. I installed xine but that didn't help.
Is there a simple way to add video thumbnails on DigiKam when running XfCE?

    You are the man!
    pacman -S kdemultimedia-mplayerthumbs
did the trick. I can now see the thumbnails. Now when I right click on one thumbnail I can select a video player and play the movie fine. However if I left click on a video I get an error message from the built-in video player?
Is there any additional package to add in order to use the built-in media player for AVCHD Lite movies?
    Thanks again.

  • Missing Video thumbnails in iphoto in iphoto 11

I have just discovered lots of missing movies in my iphoto library, I have re imported them from an iphoto backup, and if i search for the keyword movie they appear, but no thumbnails appear in the photo display. I have tried rebuilding the library but none of the imported videos show up. New videos imported from my camera show up fine.

    Thanks for the quick reply!
I triple checked a handful of the video files and they aren't exhibiting black at the start.
    How I checked:
    - Select black video thumbnail image
    - Press space bar (to "zoom" and begin playing video"
    - Stop video playback at approx. five seconds in (video counter reads 00:00:05)
    - Rewind "playhead" to very start of video so that the counter reads 00:00:00 and there is definately an image / content being displayed (e.g. is not black)
See attached screen shot with playhead at 00:00:00

  • Video thumbnails scrambled, won't playback (v3.4.3)

My video thumbnails in Aperture (version 3.4.3) are scrambled. Sometimes I can see part of a reference thumbnail frame (often in monochrome or with a single color overlay, like green), sometimes it's just all snow.
    1) I just restored my mac mini from a time machine backup.
    2) I also just imported an iPhoto library
If I browse to a pre-existing (before Time Machine restore) Aperture project, the correct thumbnail appears briefly before changing to the scrambled version.
When I select the video for playback all I get is a blank Viewer window (not video content, no controls, no playback).
If I browse to the source file via finder the video thumbnail displays and the video plays back correctly.
    I have tried:
    1) verifying and repairing disk permissions
    2) repairing Aperture permissions
    3) repairing the Aperture database
    4) rebuilding the Aperture database
    5) regenerating thumbnails (select video Photos->Regenerate Thumbnails) (thumbnail changes, still scrambled)
I don't use Aperture often so I'm not 100% sure when this started, but it seems to be after this current restore as supported by the brief correct appearance of old video thumbnails before they update to the scrambled version.
    OS X 10.8.2
    Aperture 3.4.3
    Example of affected video:
    IMG_0002.MOV
    QuickTime movie
    5MB
    640x480
    Duration: 00:11
    Capture Source: iPhone 3GS

I suggest to check the video codecs you have installled; if you use Perian or have a flip-camera, you may have an incompatible video codec installed, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4155
Why was a TimeMachine restore necessary? And did you use any helper/uninstaller/cleaner utilities, before you made the backup or after restoring? Sometimes this kind of helpers remove too much. I  this case you may need to reinstall Mt. Lion to restore missing system components, that are not included in your TimeMachine backup.
Have a look at this thread Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion,
and also at the post: Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion in the same thread.
To reinstall from the "Recovery partition" see Linc Davis's post here: Re: Garageband doesn't open in Mac Mini mid 2011

  • How to create a video thumbnail???

I'm pretty new to FCP but I've just finished several shorts and I'm getting ready to upload them to my web site and other video sites. I would like a specific frame to appear as the video thumbnail. (In other words: the "preview frame" that appears in the player when it's not playing).
No one in my periphery seems to know how to do this.
Most video sites give you their choices of frames you can use. For instance YouTube gives you three options but chances are none will be the frame you want.
I would like to select the specific frame I want, regardless of where I upload it.
Has anyone had experience with this?

I would like to select the specific frame I want, regardless of where I upload it.
That's not going to work. The frames available on YouTube are set to specific times in the video.
Other services such as Vimeo might use a different timing or a different system altogether.
QuickTime compatible media can take advantage of the Set Poster Frame function and it can be any frame that you choose. Once the clip is outside the QuickTime environment, you take your chances with what's on offer.
The only way you can have any control over this is to set the poster frame in a QuickTime movie and host it on a compatible site such as MobileMe for example.
