Video transfer

At my work, we have a lot of iPhones/iTouches/iPads that we test software on. I recently made a video on one of our iPhone 4's, and it's been impossible to transfer it to a computer. I have tried transferring it to several computers, both Mac and PC, and it always either gives me an error message, or hangs at 99%. I've tried dragging it from the desktop, and I've tried using various apps (iTunes, Picasa, etc.). Our IT department has also tried, with no luck.
There is nothing wrong with this video: It plays flawlessly from start to finish on the iPhone, so there's no reason why it shouldn't play on the computer. Every other video I've made on this iPhone has transferred to the computer with no problems. The only difference with this video is that it's longer.
I've got a few ideas that I'm going to try when I get to work on Monday. I was thinking about emailing it to myself from the iPhone, though I'm not sure if even my work email will accept a file that big. I just bought a domain name from godaddy.com, so I was thinking about uploading it to that from the iPhone. If I have to, I'll point a video camera at the iPhone's screen and make a video of the video, but I'm telling you, if I have to do that, I will never ever buy an iPhone! I always wanted an iPhone, but this experience has really given me major second thoughts.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it. Is there any way to edit the video into smaller videos on the iPhone, and then transfer those to the computer? Please help -- I absolutely have to have this video!

I figured out how to break up the video into smaller videos, and that seemed to do the trick. Still not sure what the problem with the original file was, though.

  • S Video Transfer Cable vs. Composite Video Transfer Cable???

I am double checking here after importing some footage. During review; I am not satisfied with the quality. Of course these are old and weren't stored well so I expect the actual footage to be deteriorating.
The thing that's bugging me is that the tracking seems fine on the T.V. but looks horribly off in iMovie during import and playback. Would the cable cause this?
I am wondering if I should purchase a $10 S-Video Transfer Cable and re-import the footage?
My little consumer digi-cam (Canon ZR40) only came with the RCA Composite type transfer cable.
Is the actual difference noticable to the human eye?
    Thanks

"..During review; I am not satisfied with the quality.." ..iMovie doesn't display as sharply as a TV ..this is really a "cut'n'paste" editing program, not really a viewing program, so you won't really see the full quality till you export back to tape, or to a DVD, and view that on a good screen ..so don't worry needlessly.
"..the tracking seems fine on the T.V. but looks horribly off in iMovie.." ..A TV doesn't normally show the extreme edges of a picture; they're intentionally cut off to avoid showing any 'raggedness' around the edges ..this is known as 'overscan'.
What you may be seeing - which won't be visible once you've edited, exported back to tape or DVD and are viewing on a similar TV - is probably the overlap or 'handover' between the video heads on the original recorder, giving an extra few lines of 'garbage' at the top or bottom of the screen.
This is normal ..that's how VCRs work ..it's just that you usually don't see it, except, perhaps, on a plasma or other flat-screen TV which scans right to the edges (..i.e; has no 'overscan').
"..purchase a $10 S-Video Transfer Cable and re-import the footage.." ..It'll probably make no difference.
Edit some of what you've imported ..say three minutes' worth. Export that back to the Canon, then play that from the Canon into your TV. Compare that with the original which you imported into the Canon.
I expect you'll see no difference ..maybe the imported, edited and exported looks slightly better, if a 'timebase corrector' inside the Canon gave a more sharply synchronised capture onto tape than the simple playback from your original VCR (..it does happen..)

  • Video transfer from computer to new ipad (ret disp) shows transfering process, but it's not in video or movie  . ...Where'd it go ?

    video transfer from computer
Video transfer from computer to new ipad (ret disp) shows transfering process, but it's not in video or movie  . ...Where'd it go ? sync automatically downloaded some -  but was a bit prejudiced and selective with content mainly all edited by me in Moviemaker (windows 7, probably the reason)
I use technology since neanderthals roamed the planet . ....don't quite understand  all the nuances  . .. .So, my all things "i" (apple/mac) guru has arranged a meeting,    and I'm impatient.  I know some of my videos are in several formats, etc... and I don't quite understand the differences . ...to me, it's complicated, as Alec Baldwin would say.
Unfortunately, I'm "late" to the game metaphoricaly ( windows vs apple/mac ). I have a couple ipods and actually endorse the ijet remote device (Co. from San Diego). I have pro tools and other hi tech gear in the pro keyboards/sequencing arena where I've been writing computer music since 80's and it's evolution.

The Apple video app is very limited in what it will play. If you have multiple video formats and if they will play on an iPad, then you likely need a 3rd party vidoe app. One such is BUZZPlayer which is available in the iTunes App Store on a Mac or PC or from the App Store app on an iOS device.
You transfer the videos to 3rd party video apps using iOS File Sharing.

  • DVD Quality: Using Pinnacle Video Transfer and I-movie 08

I am using Pinnacle video transfer to upload old video - some directly from old camera tapes, some from 8mm video that has been transferred to VCR or DVD by a commercial service such as Costco. I am using the "Professional Quality" to burn my finished projects, but the quality is not as good as the original upload from the source. Sometimes it is better than others but I am unable to figure out why. Is there a way to use the creative resources for MAC and get good quality video? Thanks very much. Are the professional programs (such as "final cut") a lot better?

Dyann there seems to be a problem with Imovie08 in that it only uses single field processing effectively throwing away half of your horizontal quality. I am a relatively new Mac user and bought my macbook to do video editing, I am having the same problem when importing from a mini dv camera in that the quality when the dvd is produced to be quite honest is crap. Many people are complaining about htis and are asking if Imovie09 will have this fixed but no firm answers yet. Hope this helps

You have posted your issue in Using Apple Support Communities whose topic is 'How to use this forum software's interface, features and/or how to find what you wish'. It is a relatively low traffic and inappropriate forum for your problem. I will ask our Hosts to move it to " Using iPad " where it may get a more rapid response from your fellow users.

  • Video transfer of Digital8

I have a Sony Digital8 camcorder, model TVR350, and would like to transfer video to my iMac G5. The software that came with the camera wants me to work in Classic OS 9 in order to be installed. I understand that is not possible. Anyone got a suggestion, as to a work-around or other? The cam has only USB, no firewire output.
    Thanks for any help.

Grizzly Marmot: Many thanks for solving my video transfer of D8 to iMovieHD. The firewire cable works wonderfully.
    nickman
You should have firewire (i.LINK or IEEE 1394) on
that camera - you will need a cable that does not
come with the camera (4 pin to 6 pin FW). Then you
    will simply use iMovie.

  • Pinnacle video transfer

I saw this cool little gadget called the pinnacle video transfer that transfers video to iPods from DVR's, movies, and even game consoles on Attack of the Show. They say it works with iPods so I was hoping it would work with my iPhone. I don't see why it wouldn't. Can anyone confirm or deny if this is iPhone compatible, or even opinions of anyone that owns one? Thanks.

  • Video Transfer from Iphone 4 to PC

Can someone please tell me how I can transfer both my videos and pictures I have taken with my Iphone 4 to my PC? I would like to have both a backup as well as be able to transfer these video and image files. Thank you

You can easily download Apple Quicktime 7, for free. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Quicktime will play your video which is actually a .mov format, an Apple MPEG 4 video format. Windows 7's Windows Media Player 12 also supports the .mov format, and will play these videos fine. It doesn't look like Microsoft is going to release Media Player 12 for Vista however.
Garydp makes a very good point about being able to view file extensions. You should definitely think about unchecking the Hide extensions for known file types box in the View folder options section. Knowing the file extension could have lead to a successful Google solution right off the bat.

  • Video transfer not working

I have ipad mini and I do my update to ios8, then after updated  I cannot  transfer  video files to the ipad

Hi, I don't know which way you're using to transfer video to your iPad. If you use an app, then the reason might be that the app is not compatible with iOS 8 yet. My first suggestion is to restart your iPad to see whether it works or not. If it doesn't work, then try a desktop software, like TunesGo to transfer videos to see whether it works or not. By doing this, you'll learn what is wrong, your iPad, the app, or iTunes you're using. Later, you can fix the problem according to what you've found.

  • Video Transfer To Classic 160?

Just bought a new 160GB iPod Classic.  Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm trying to put a NCAA produced video sporting event on it and can't figure out how to do it after reading the on-line manuals.
I load the commercially made video disc into my computer, with the iPod connected, and there's no prompt to begin transfer/import to the iPod.
I've already loaded roughly 400 music CD's without any problems.  Is this type of video something the Classic wasn't designed to accomodate?
    Thank you for any/all help/advice!

Will the video you purchased play in iTunes? If you haven't tried it, try playing it in iTunes first and then see if it will transfer.
