  • "lost" album will not open in iPhoto

A couple weeks ago I opened iPhoto and received the message that my photo album could not be found. I created a new album so that I could upload my photos and then located my original album in the Pictures folder. I had not moved it or renamed it. I can still open all of these photos in Preview, but they will not open in iPhoto. How can I move this album back to iPhoto?
This may or may not be related, but around the same time a Dreamweaver .xml file (an application I have never used) appeared on my desktop, entitled "Album Data".

"AlbumData.xml" is the name of a file created by iPhoto as part of the structure of an iPhoto Library folder. If you have only one iPhoto Library inside your Pictures folder, and it stopped opening normally at about the same time the AlbumData.xml file appeared on your desktop, then it's likely that the file's removal from the iPhoto Library folder (which you or someone else may have done accidentally) has caused the iPhoto problem.
Look inside the iPhoto Library folder that doesn't open normally when you start iPhoto, and if there is no AlbumData.xml file inside it, drag the one from your desktop into that folder. Then try opening iPhoto, and post back with the results.

  • IPhoto 8 does not open my iPhoto 6 library.

    Hi,
I want to transfer my Photos from Iphoto (10.4.8) 6 on my Powerbook to my new MacBookPro with iPhoto 8 (10.5).
How can I do that without loosing my albums.
IPhoto 8 does not open my iPhoto 6 library.
    Thanks

Simply copy the iPhoto Library Folder from the Pictures Folder on your old machine to the same location on the new one. The launch iPhoto. That's all.

I can not open my iphoto icon

Are you trying to open it from the Dock? If so, try opening it directly from the Applications folder. Any change?

  • I can not open my iPhoto it says it is either used by another applcation or has become unread be

I can not open my Iphoto library it says it is either used by another application or has become unreadabe. I shut down and restart an then open Iphoto again but nothing is their.

    These are your options:
    1. Restore the iPhoto library from the most recent backup that predates the issue.
    2. Repair or rebuild the library.
    3. Scavenge the library with iPhoto Library Manager independently of iPhoto (Library ▹ Rebuild). Books, calendars, and slideshows won't be preserved.

If you want help you’ll need to give us more information. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Iphoto will not open my iPhoto library......have tried everything.  This has only happened in the last week.

Iphoto will not open my iPhoto library......have tried everything.  This has only happened in the last week.
I have tried everthing suggested on the forum.

    Did you follow these directions?
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Videos not working in iPhoto

Installed Snow Leopard last week and since then I cannot get my video files to play through iPhoto (I have the 08 version).  I installed Quick Time 7 as suggested in a discussion elsewhere, but it didn't do the trick.  I can get the videos to play through QT if I open the files through Finder, just not working w/ iPhoto.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Try this:
Launch the Terminal and at the prompt paste
    sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache
It will ask for your password. Type it in (but remember it won't show it to you) and hot return.
Quit the Terminal and restart iPhoto.

I assume it is not opening on the device.
Is this is a brand new device?
Are you trying to add photos and videos through quick install?

Look on page 173 of the userguide for instructions regarding photos and videos.
On page 65 starts the section on synchronizing info. to your handheld.
If the application is not opening on the Handheld, you may need to hard reset the E2 to get it back to the factory defaults.
Click on the following link for the hard rest procedure. The hard reset will erase all data on the device.

  • Photo library not opening in iPhoto any longer

    Hello,
I was in my iPhoto software today importing new photos but all of the sudden my iPhoto said that it could not access my library any longer. So I tried to repair the permissions but it did not work at all. I can see my library is like 220 GB big so there is definitely something in it but it will just not open itself.
Please help if you have any idea as I do not have these pictures anywhere else and I would hate to loose like 65,000 pics because of this. I had a similar issue with iTunes and it took me like 3 days to fix as I had to recreate all my playlists and reimport each song in each playlists. Such a hassle. I sure hope this will not happen to me.
    Thanks in advance.

    what version of iPhoto?
as to losing photos - do you have a backup ? If you do then you are safe - if you do not then you are 100% guaranteed to lose your photos and everything else sooner or later - things fail and with no backup you lose things when failures occur
what changed just before this occurred? Why can't you access your library? What does happen? What messages do you get?

  • Videos not playing in iPhoto 09

I've just noticed that since upgrading to iLife 09 none of the videos that are in iPhoto now play (they used to happily launch Quicktime and play when double clicked).
Quicktime launches, but the videos do not play. Also, when I try to drag the videos from iPhoto onto my desktop they do not copy.
    Any suggestions?

    Don't re-import them - you'll be re-introducing data to a damaged database.
Try Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Videos not showing in iphoto

I was always able to watch videos in iphoto.  My iphone would also auto put the videos into iphoto monthly photo streme.  However now the past videos are missing in iphoto and the new ones are not being auto synced.  The photos are still auto syncing from my phone to iphoto.  I don't know whats happened to cause this sudden change?

What has changed on your Mac since you were last able to view videos in iPhoto? Any updates or upgrades installed? What system and iPhoto versions are you currently using? Are these videos that were imported from your iPhone into iPhoto by iPhoto?

  • Some photos will not open in Iphoto

Since updating to Mountain Lion, I find a few thumbnails will not open for edit or export in Iphoto.  I just get an icon and a message that the original is missing or corrupt. What can I do?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
