View page size without opening file

Is there a way to view the page size of a pdf document without actually opening the file?
My use is in a print shop as a part of a preflight check. I often recieve artwork setup to the wrong page size, and it often arrives as part of a dump of 30+ files. At the moment I am opening each file, and checking the document properties in viewer to get the page size. I've tried adding a "dimensions" column into windows explorer, but that doesn't work on pdf's.

The dimensions of pages in a PDF file aren't stored in the document metadata - the only way to find them out is to open the file.

  • Getting fast PDF page count (without opening file)?

I’ve got a menu with about 100 PDFs and for various
reasons I’d like to display the page count for each. I could
enter the page count by hand but that becomes a maintenance
nightmare as the PDFs are updated and someone (myself included)
will forget to update the count. Opening each PDF in an xtra to get
the page count would be too slow for 100 documents . I’ve
found a dll that claims to parse the PDF header and quickly count
PDF pages which might work (we’re already using dllBinder for
MAPI access) although I haven’t started experimenting with
it. Has anyone tried something similar? Can I parse the header with
lingo/Buddy API and avoid working with the dll black box?

I would take an approach in between the extremes you listed.
    Consider
this. Make a list of all the documents, and make an automated
    process
using Impressario or something to get the total pages in all
    100
documents. Save this list. It will take a bit to open and
    close all
the docs, but it only need to be done once. From then on,
    compare to
the saved list. Whenever a doc gets changed use your
    automated
Impressario process to update the list.
If the DLL route doesn't pan out, then that is how I would go
    about it.
You;d still need to remember to update your list after every
    change,
but at least it is an automatic process.

  • How to increase page size for balance file upload in Workspace.

    Hi All,
Please suggest how to increase page size for balance file upload in shared Workspace pages.
    Thanks,

A word of caution is in order regarding changing from facing to non-facing and back again. If you have overridden master page items, you'll get a second, non-overridden copy on all the even-number pages when that half of the master page is re-applied. This applies to master text frames which override automatically when text flows into them as well as to objects you manually override. I think you'll find this particular technique also only works for master text frames, whereas the Layout Adjustment should work in all situations where frames snap to guides.

  • How determine page size by opening PDF file in binary mode

    Hi,
I have to print PDF file but I would like to know the page size of the PDF file.
What I have to verify (section, parameters) in order to know the page size? (Letter, Legal)
    Thanks!
    FE

And if you multiply the values by (1/72):
    (792 - 0) / 72 = 11
    (612 - 0) / 72 = 8.5
You may also have to consider rotated pages and not all pages within a PDF will match the size of the first page.
    Using Acrobat JavaScript:
    var nPage = 0;
    var cBox = "Crop";
    var aRect = this.getPageBox(cBox, nPage);
    var width = aRect[2] - aRect[0];
    var height = aRect[1] - aRect[3];
    console.println("Page " + (nPage + 1) + " has a width of " + (width / 72) + " inches and a height of "
    + (height / 72) + " inches");
Produces the following output on the Acrobat JS debugging console:
Page 1 has a width of 8.25 inches and a height of 11 inches

  • Saving Adobe PDF Page Size without Admin Rights?

Ok to get started, to define the limits of my environment for replication:
I'm using Windows XP SP3 and have tried Adobe Acrobat 8, 9, and X, my computer is on a network at work, and my user rights are limited.
    Open Printing Preferences, Click Add...
The "Add Custom Paper Size" window appears, give a new name and define sizes of the paper.
    Lets say I'm printing to a large format say 36" Tall by 108" Long (3ft x 9ft)
Click Add/Modify, the window goes away, focus again on Adobe PDF Printing Preferences. Click the drop down box for Adobe PDF Page Size:
The page size I just added to the list is not there!
The solution to the this problem is to have Administrative Rights to your machine in order to add custom paper sizes.
Note to Adobe Acrobat Programmers/Designers: please redevelop this feature to allow users to add paper sizes without Power User or Admin Rights. In a secure network these rights are not easily given out to every Dick and Jane that uses your software.

Interesting post, and for once, something one should be able
    to work with.
    I have a similar problem:
We're using a software distribution tool to install
msi-packages via rpc. Trying to distribute the latest flashplayer
works fine, but the users can't open flash-files, whether with
firefox nor internetexplorer tried 6 and 7 with latest patches.
I've found two possible ways to install a flashplayer plugin,
but both require manual input, which is just not possible for
    >100 Clients. just to mention: clean registry and then install
with admin rights or just run the installer with admin rights from
    the local machine.
Another problem is, that our company security policy
prohibits from using admin-rights for most installations.
    is there any workaround?

  • Pages can´t open files saved in iCloud

I can´t open any file save to iCloud
    I tried a workaraound:
I couldn´t open a file save to iCloud from my iPad.
I opened it from icloud.com and downloaded it to my iMac.
Opened the downloaded file, and everything semed ok.
I then closed the dokument and opened the file on my ipad again. Made som editing before I closed the dokument.
Then I tried to open it again in Pages on my iMac, but couldent open it.
    Translated: Couldn´t open the file ".... ..."
I also tried to open a file saved to icloud (without opening it on other machines and devises). Pages couldn´t open those files either...
    Can sombody help me?

Possibly you have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 110 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs.

  • How can I view page info without right-clicking?

Hi, I've recently updated to Firefox 4.0.1, and with the "tools" menu gone, I can't find out how to view page info anymore without right-clicking. This can be a problem for sites in which right-click is disabled. I have also tried ctrl+I, but this only opens the bookmarks menu. Is there a way of viewing page info in the new Firefox without right-clicking?

  • Change pdf page size to uploaded file page size

I've added a new page size in the PDF printer -- but when I identify a file that is being converted
in Acrobat Pro9, the finished pdf is always 8x11. I can't find any page size adjustment in preferences
or page setup, properties, etc.  Please help

    >How do I change the pdf page size to print on the larger size without the blank, empty margins above and below the page?
You can't. That would require changing font sizes and document reflow. 8.5 x14 isn't proportionate to 8.5x11.

  • I am former PC person. Could view folder content based on a picture of an item in the folder. Can folder in imac be viewed this way without opening the folder?

New to Apple and imac. With a PC, I could view a folder's contents as 4 files from within would be viewable on the folder itself. With the imac, I cannot see what is in the folder without opening it first. Is this possible as that was very convenient.

  • View page size in Acrobat 8?

I use both version 6 and version 8 in Acrobat for Windows. One of the reasons I haven't given up using Acrobat 6 on my workstation is that I can see the page size at the bottom left of each page in the single page view. I can't figure out how to get this displayed in Acrobat 8, nor find it in a help screen or among these forums. Anyone have any advice?

I am not sure, but I think you just move the mouse down to the lower left of the window and you get a popup. At least that is the way AA7 works. It is no longer displayed by default.
By the way, you are really asking a question that in the future you should put in the forum and not the feature request area. If you got a negative answer in the forum and felt it was a needed feature, then here is the correct place to come.
Hope I answered your question in any case. It had been answered a long time ago in the forum, but may not be in the archives any more. I will agree that I can't find it in the help menu either. I may just not be looking for the correct thing.

  • 20.0.1 Update: right-click on page shows ALL menu options, many (all?) don't work, no "view page source", no "open in new tab"

after update to 20.0.1 a few hours ago, right click shows ALL menu options, many (all?) don't work, like "view page source", "open in new tab" etc. etc.

I'm having the same issue on Firebug 1.11.3....The "more robust" right click menu does return when I disable the extension. Would you recommend downgrading Firebug to 1.11.2? Hate to have to turn off Firebug "except when I'm working" but either option seems to have both pros/cons.
This behavior happens on both PC and Mac (although the above information was tested on my PC - I'll have to check the Mac later and see if Firebug is doing the same thing there. I believe I have the most recent Firebug there, too)
The PC is on Firefox 20.0.1, Mac should be as well.
    Thanks

  • Freeze during column view in finder and open file box?

Whenever I open a file and the open file dialog box is in column view it freezes when I click on the file and the view shifts to reveal the icon and info. It happens a lot in finder too, but not as often. It usually doesn't start happening for a few minutes after I reboot.
I'm pretty sure quicktime is associated with that icon/image preview. I just formatted my hard drive hoping that would help but it doesn't. I have to force quit applications alot if I forget to get out of column view...someone please help!
I don't remember this happening before I installed macromedia studio 8, but I'm not sure. I have to use those programs.

  • Set Paper Source by Page Size for multi files

I have over 500 pdf files. How can I batch set "Paper Source by Page Size" in Print Dialog Preset for these files.
    Thanks!

    Hi Andrew,
Apple made some pretty significant changes to the way that printers function when they released 10.6.
The setting you're looking for is completely controlled by the OS.
Choose Apple > System Preferences > Print & Fax.
Click on your printer and use the drop-down menu to change the default page size for your printer.
