View previous versions of a document

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/story/cs/using/WSeffff8bffc80208413d80fbc12e7690033b-7ffd.html

Hi,
The versions are the state of document at various points in time.
To edit an old version, the best way would be to make it as latest (Use the 'Make Latest' option). Edit it, save it. Go back to the previous version (which was the version you were working on) and make that latest now.

Sunny

  • Previous Version of the document after sent to Record Centre

In the current Farm we have 2 web apps
    Collaboration
    Record Centre
We are sending the document to Record Centre using the Send to Connection and the connection is setup as Move and leave a link .
Once the document is sent to Record Centre its leaves the link and ext. is ASPX .
After this if you go and check the version history of the left link and click on any of the previous versions . SharePoint can't open the file as the content is word but the extension is ASPX and
its gives you a error for cant open zip file
Can someone suggest a solution for this ?
Note : if you download the file and change the ext to docx from aspx it works fine .
    Amit

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that SharePoint can't open the file as the content is word but the extension is ASPX after sending to Record Centre.
After sending the document to the Records Centre using the new Send To action, the document is moved to the Records Centre and becomes a record, while a link is left behind in its’ place in the document library, with the filename doc1.aspx.
Note the file extension of the link indicates this link is an ASPX page while the rest of the filename matches the original document filename. This file extension is the significant factor in the problem.
To open the document, you can click the link, and then open the ASPX page. In the page, you can click the New Location link to download the document.

  • Embedded files 'disappear' when viewing signed version of a document

    Hello,
We've just come across a weird issue when viewing signed documents containing embedded files in Adobe Reader. If we use the 'Click to view this version' link in the Signatures panel, the embedded files are not shown in the Attachments panel, even though they are covered by the signature.
I've uploaded a sample document that illustrates the issue to Google Drive, here is the link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1wk9toh5e7AZVBIb2V6a2lDMWM/view?usp=sharing
    Thanks,
    Ken

"View this version" comes with a disclaimer in the top bar that most functions are disabled in this view. If attachments are shown in the "Attachments" panel, then they can be opened
(otherwise what's the point to show them at all), and Acrobat uses a default app for this MIME type (i.e. Notepad for .txt files) to open it and has no control what the user could do there. User could definitely copy this file to a different location and this is akin to copying some of he PDF's content which is a prohibited operation in this view.
You can treat the disclaimer in the top bar as the Adobe official statement along with my read on what it means with respect to annotations.
IMO to "View this version" for the last signature when there are no changes after the file was signed is meaningless because both versions are identical. It is only when some changes were made after a signature that you may want/need to view the signed version.

  • Is there anyway to recover a previous version of a document in pages?

I downloaded a document off of pages and submitted it to my proffessor only to discover that what he rceived was a blank doument. I then went back to my downloads thinking I could just send it to him again or even just copy and paste the essay I had written and  sumbit that but the downladed docuent itself is blank! I dont understand how this happened and whats even more confusing is it says the document contains 15KB of information and is 2 pages (should be 4) even though it appears blank! I cant use time machine to recover it because it had not been set up previous to this incident and I cant go back back to the document on icloud.com because I used it for a another assignment and the previous work is no longer there. I feel like the document might have even been blank when I went back to icloud because I cant think of a reason as to why I would erase the previous work. PLEASE HELP I AM SO DESPERATE TO RETRIEVE THIS ESSAY.

Unfortunately, no. This is something I miss from AppleWorks. I suggest you leave feedback for the Pages team regarding this. You can find it under the Pages menu > Provide Pages Feedback. That takes you to the same page as this link.

  • How to view previous version of a page

I'm wondering if it's possible to view a particular page in the cache.
Earlier today I attempted to make a hotel booking and when I clicked on "purchase" the site reported a problem so I phoned the hotel and made the booking by phone instead.
However, I then received two confirmations - the first purchase went through despite saying it hadn't, then I was charged a second time for the booking made by phone.
Now they are saying these are non-refundable bookings and are being difficult about refunding the more expensive, rather than cheaper, booking.
Is there a way to access the page when it showed the error? I have clicked on the back button but only get a message saying the session has timed out. I have also typed about:cache in the url bar but can't see what I'm after there.
Does anyone have any suggestions to view this error page?
    Thanks in advance for advice,
    Jo

Hello boppyqt and thanks for contacting us,
Yes. There's a way to list all the cache entries on Firefox. But there's a problem. It will list ALL of them. They may be thousands, your computer might get busy for long time.
Anyway, on your address bar type about:cache. On "Disk cache device" click over List cache entries. You will see ALL of them. Find the one pertaining to the error page by finding the latest ones.
Did this solve your problem? Please report back to us!

  • Webclient does not open previous added versions of bqy documents

We are running IR/ workspace 9.3.1.3.0401 on weblogic. We have an odd behaviour in opening previous added versions of bqy documents.
    case:
    import a bqy document.
add another version of this document (make it obvious and simple only a dasboard with a "1" and "2" in a text label should be enough. for this test)
open the bqy as/ with IR webclient. (make sure this action opens the last added version.
    till so far no problems
the open the previous version (File> Open > Document> (open as interactive reporting web client/ Version (choos the first or previous version) )
It does NOT open the previouws version but the last posted version.
    strange is it?
I opened a case at Oracle for this.
(trying the same document with ihtml does not give a problem., it shows whichever version you ask for)

Oracle confirmed this is a bug.

  • Recover Pages document previous version?

    I made the error I shouldn't .
I made a new document A with Pages which I saved.
Then I started from this docment A to make a completely new one
with the idea to save it later with a new name B.
While working on this document I printed it.
At the same time I was working on some other documents.
Coming back to my Pages document A I noticed the usual
black point within the topleft red button which means there
are modifications pending which is always there whenever you make a print.
To avoid this error prone false warning I got the habit to always
save after a printing. And I did it . Hence I completely overwrote
the previous version of my document A.
This previous version of my document A isn't in Time Machine last backup.
I didn't activate the Pages option
Back up previous version when saving.
What is the best software or technique to recover the previous version of a Pages document
    in such conditions?
    dan

    Hello
Which Pages version are you using ?
Pages '08 create packages but the default format used by Pages '09 is flatfile which may be revived by recovery tools.
If you are using Pages '08 or Pages '09 under 10.6.8, you may install my Autosave script which keep an archive of works in progress every ten minutes.
With it at work, it would be easy to revive your document.
The tools which you name can't revive the entire structure of a package but sometimes they may retrieve the index.xml.gz file. I wrote "sometimes" because you described the optimistic scheme. In practice the process may reuse some blocks of the original version for the new one.
As far as I know, every Pages's index.xml.gz files start with the same group of bytes :
which may be used to help recovery apps to retrieve them.
If you retrieve the wanted one, looking in it you would retrieve the list of embedded picture files.
With a bit of luck, their original version is available somewhere on your HD.
With this set of files you may rebuild the Pages document.
Here is what I got when I replaced the index.xml.gz file from a newly created document by one borrowed to an other one.
As you see, I got the location of pictures in the file and the list of the picture files.
With that, it's easy to complmete the doc.
It's more annoying if the file embedded charts but, when the lost doc is one which we built, it's not too difficult to restore the charts from the source tables.
Before leaving, I will repeat the tip which I use for years to get rid of what you did.
When I save a Pages document as azerty.pages, I rename it as azerty.template.
This way, when I open it, I get a copy with no risk to destroy the original.
For Numbers doc, I rename qsdfg.numbers as qsdfg.nmbtemplate
Some weeks ago, I posted here a script automating the process. It apply in fact to every kind of docs. For iWork ones, it rename them, for docs issued of other apps, it set their system's attribute "stationary" to true.

  • Error opening previous version documents

    Hello,
We are having the issue of open Sharepoint previous version documents.  When we attempt to open the previous version documents we got an error "Sorry we coudn't open https://sharepoint.its.com/howto/_vit_history/2560/doc1.docx.
    Our environment: Sharepoint 2013
       Document library versioning turned on.
I am the site collection administrator, so I know its not the permission issue.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi,
As I understand, you encountered the error when you opened the previous version documents in SharePoint 2013.
Can you open previous version of all the documents in the document library? Or does the issue occur on specific file types?
Can you open the previous version documents in other browser?
    Check things below:
    1. Check if select the “Do not save encrypted pages to disk” in Internet Options --> Advanced, you can deselect the option and to check if the same situation will occur.
    2. You can go to Internet Options --> Advanced and click "Reset All Internet Explorer Settings", then to check if the same situation will occur.
    3. Check the detail of the error in the ULS log.
    4. You also can create a new document library with versioning enabled and upload some documents, then open the previous version of the documents to check if the same situation will occur.
The article below is about Internet Explorer Cannot Open Versions of Documents.

  • Permanent link to specific version of a document

When ‘Sharing’ documents is it possible to issue (say for emailing to someone) a permanent link to the document i.e. one which is locked to the version and not one that changes or fails if a new version is subsequently added?
There appears to be two groups of document links in SharePoint, the current version and previous versions.
The current document version is referenced by a canonical path:
    http://site/document library/document.doc
A prior document version is referenced from a revision path. But this only works for non-current versions:
http://site/_vti_history/versionID/document.doc  (Where versionID is generated by SharePoint)
Therefore every time a new document revision is created the contents of the canonical path will change. The canonical path will point to the new document version while the previous version of the document is only available with the revision path.
Therefore it is not possible to create a permanent link to a version of the document if at the time of issuing it is the current version.

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create a permanent link to specific version of a document.
If a new version is created, the contents of the canonical path will change. Although the version number will increase, the previous version number will not change.
If you want version 1.0, then the URL for this version will always be
    http://site/_vti_history/512/document.doc.

  • How to make previous version documents(CS1 and CS3) without extension  readable in InDesign CS5

I have some previous version documents of CS1 and CS3  on Mac  which have been saved without any extension e.g 300, CS3doc etc.
When I open such documents in InDesign CS5 they appear to be unreadable .  Only on  selecting 'All documents' filter  I am able to open those documents.
I want to make all such documents (which are without extension) readable with 'All Readable Documents ' also .
How I can do that, please  help me !!!!!

The first thing I'd do is make sure the issue is really what I suspect it is - i.e. I suspect your extension-less documents don't have the proper type and creator.
If you fire up a Terminal window, you should be able to use the GetFileInfo command to check one of the files:
Assume 'sampleFile' is sitting on your desktop, you'd do
    GetFileInfo ~/Desktop/sampleFile
(not sure when/whether GetFileInfo is installed on a Mac - I think it used to be part of Apple's developer tools, but on my Snow Leopard it resides in /usr/bin)
Check what it says for 'type' and 'creator'.
If these are not correct, we've confirmed that that's the reason why they don't show up in your file dialog.
If the issue is type/creator related, I can think of the following options:
    a) Change your code to accept ANY file type/extension - I suspect this would work (not tested!):
    openFileDialog->AddType( '????' );
If memory serves right, '????' should be accepted as a wildcard.
    b) correct the file types BEFORE they are viewed in the File Dialog - for example, if these files are in a very specific folder somewhere, you might be able to scan the folder, and correct their type and creator (e.g. iterate through all extensionless files in folder 'xyz' and change their type and creator). A lot depends on how those files get there, and whether they are tied to a specific folder or not - are they 'old' files, or are they being generated in some workflow? If they're all over a user's system or all over a file server, such pre-scanning and cleaning up file types approach will be a no-go.
    Cheers,
    Kris

  • Insert SharePoint document version in Word documents - Viewing in Word Web App

    Hello all,
I'm using Labels with the label format {Version} to display the SharePoint document version in MS Office documents stored on my company´s SharePoint site. This works fine if I open the document from the Word client application but if I open it from Word Web
App it displays the previous version number (a minor one). After half an hour or so, when I open the document in Word Web App, the version number is the correct one. I tought it was related with the IE cache so I cleaned it but the results were the same.
Is there any way around this?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
By design. Versioning is a property of a SharePoint item. When displaying an item from SharePoint, Office Web Apps only checks if there has been any change to the file content. It does not check for changes in metadata (if the Properties of the file have
been modified). It then displays the cached image of the last modified version of the file instead of running a new file conversion. This is why the last minor version is displayed in the Content Control instead of the major version. This behaviour is completely
intended and designed to work this way. This is, in fact, a performance optimization. If we would not have this performance optimization in place, then this would mean that Office Web Apps would need to download the file again every time there is a metadata
change (which would, of course, mean overloading the SharePoint server).
I found a similar thread as below, please refer to it for workaround:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/75c09197-934b-42ff-8de6-c321267dfd68/document-property-not-updated-when-viewing-a-word-document-in-office-web-apps

Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader. I get this error message "Adobe Reader could not open 'OD Test Bed Proposals_0.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  I have tried changing the 'open with' options too. Thanks

    Try this:
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files
    Empty the trash
Relaunch Safari. You can now download undamaged PDFs.
