Viewing a CMYK PDFX1/A PDF on an iPad and holding the color?

Hello,
Ok, here is an odd one...
We have a vendor where we need to supply a PDFX1/A 4/c PDF for the iPad version. When I view it on the iPad, it looks terrible...gets very bright, the colors aren't even close.
If I export the same InDesign file as an Interactive PDF option, it looks very close to the original on my screen and that is what I am looking for, but I have to show a PDFX1/a on the ipad, which is not an option in interactive pdf, just print pdf.
Does anyone know how to make any settings in the Export PDFX1/a option that would let it hold truer to the color viewed on the screen, when I view the same pdf on the iPad?
Is that even possible?
Thanks!
babs

You might try viewing such PDF files using the Adobe Reader for iOS that you can download for free from the Apple Application Store. It handles CMYK colors, spot colors with either CMYK or Lab alternates, and live transparency much better than the built-in iOS Preview program. FWIW, there is nothing you can do with the export settings to make this any better if your vendor foolishly insists on a PDF/X-1a file. (A PDF/X-1a file is really only appropriate for printing under some conditions!) At least with PDF/X-4, any original RGB image and vector content will remain as RGB and display with much higher fidelity. Furthermore, transparency won't be ruined by flattening it when producing the PDF file. Such transparency flattening is what yields those stupid white lines that you see when viewing such files on the screen.

I have a document made up of separate PDF files which reside in a folder and are linked to each other via hyperlinks. Each pdf file is set to open with bookmarks displayed, however if I link from one PDF file to another and use the "Previous View" button to navigate back to my starting point the bookmarks are replaced by "page thumbnails". Is there anyway to stop this from happening?

Hi Pusman,
While setting up the links, if you choose to open the file in a new window then you won't face this issue, then you can simply switch to the previous file and bookmark view will remain as it is.
Does that helps with your query?

• Hi I would like to know, how do I add a Hyperlink on Flash, that opens a PDF in adobe reader and not the web browser.

Hi I would like to know, how do I add a Hyperlink on Flash, that opens a PDF in adobe reader and not the web browser.

Yoh, what is FSCCommanr ? sorry man I am an absolute beginner in Flash. I tried the code:
/* Click to Go to Web Page
Clicking on the specified symbol instance loads the URL in a new browser window.
Instructions:
1. Replace http://www.adobe.com with the desired URL address.
       Keep the quotation marks ("").
instance_name_here.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToWebPage);
function fl_ClickToGoToWebPage(event:MouseEvent):void {
      navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://www.adobe.com"), "_blank");
this is the same code I used before and it opens a pdf file in a web browser, and it doesn't open an AutoCAD file.

• Adobe reader (11.3.2) PDF's on ipad and getting error that the file is corrupt!!

i have the latest Adobe reader from the app store (11.3.2) however i am struggling to open PDF's on ipad and getting error that the file is corrupt!!
any help or suggestions welcome

Would you describe how you transferred the PDF file to your iPad and iPhone?  Did you send it as an email attachment and open it on your iPad and iPhone?
The file may have been corrupted by Apple Mail, which is a known problem.  Please see Problem #1 in the FAQ document How to avoid known PDF email attachment problems.
Would you try some experiments so that we can troubleshoot the problem?  During the experiments, please use cloud storage (e.g. Acrobat.com, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) and avoid sending the PDF file as an email attachment.
Rename the corrupted/damaged PDF file on your iPad.  For example, add "_damaged.pdf" to the file name.
Upload the corrupted/damaged PDF file to the cloud storage of your choice.
Download the corrupted/damaged PDF file from the cloud storage to your Windows or Mac desktop computer.
Open it in the desktop version of Adobe Reader XI for Windows or Mac.
Does Adobe Reader XI on your desktop computer display an error message?
Upload the (good) PDF file on your iPhone to the cloud storage.
Download the (good) PDF file from the cloud storage to your iPad.
Open it in Adobe Reader on your iPad.
Does Adobe Reader on your iPad display an error message?
We can investigate further based on what you will find.
Thank you for your help.

Have been here before but still have not resolved a fix for a black screen when I try to access a PDF file using Safari...Now I've got a new iPad and need the User Guide which is only available in PDF and FireFox will not work.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

I have several pdf files in my computer which are organized in folders. I want to transfer them to IBooks (in my Ipad) and keep the folder structure I use in my computer. Is it possible to do it? Do I need any other app?

By design, the organizer (and any other database management systems) is there to prevent you from duplicating your media files. The catalog management allows you to have the same image in different categories or albums. Duplication in different folders is to be absolutely avoided.
The same image file can have multiple tags like 'family', 'vacations', 'birthdays' and be present in three different albums with the same names. On obvious advantage is less disk space. Another one with your present folder system is that if you edit one of your duplicates, the other ones are unchanged.
I don't see an easy way to make your present folder structure simplified for the organizer ...

• I have a pdf file attached to email inbox for ipad3.  I also have an neu.Annotate  app for pdf.  Can anyone tell me how to open my pdf through neu.Annotate and save the file?

How do I save the pdf on ipad3?  How can I view the fiel from neu.Annotate so that I could do the editing from the app?

If the PDF isn't already downloaded in the email then you should be able to do so by tapping on it.
If the PDF is open within the body of the email then press and hold it and after a second or so you should get a 'Open In' pop-up; otherwise (e.g. the PDF opens into a separate screen) then tap the PDF and you should get an icon top right of a box with an arrow coming out of it - tap that and you'll get the 'Open In' option

• Sync reading location pdf file on ipad and mac

Is there anyway to keep the reading location sync'd between an ipad and a mac with a pdf file?
I have the pdf file in the ibook library that is sync'd between my ipad and mac, however, my
reading location doesn't seem to be updated.

Not sure what a "Preview File" is ... but I will assume you mean a PDF file.
First of all, Apple products are very good at reading PDF files.  In general, you don't need any special PDF viewer, as these are built in.
The place I would store PDF documents is in the iBooks reader.  iBooks is a free app available in the App Store.  It is where you would keep books you purchase in the App Store.  Those books are stored in iTunes on your computer.  You can store your PDFs there too.
To find PDFs, open iBooks, click on the "Books" button and then select PDFs.

• IE 11 Won't open PDF unless I disable and enable the Adobe add-on?

I'm using IE 11 under Windows 7, whenever I try to open a pdf in the explorer it prompts me if I want to open or save?  If I disable the add-on and re-enable it works fine - I don't even have to restart the explorer - and it works fine from that point on until I reboot my computer.  After rebooting I have to go through the process again to get it to work.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this?  I'm using Adobe Reader XI (11.0.10).  Thanks for any help....

This is probably the proprietary PDF viewer in Firefox at fault.
In Firefox type "about:config" (minus the quotes) in the address bar. You'll see a warning about making chnages. Click "It's OK. I'll be careful" and open the configuration page.
There's a search at the top. Type "js" (again, minus the quotes).
In the results, you'll see pdfjsviewerdisabeld witha value of "false".
Right click it to toggle it to "true" and close the configuration page.
Click Firefox>Preferences and under the Applications tab, locate Adobe Acrobat PDF document in the list (or Portable Document Format).
Change it to "Use Adobe Reader (Default)"
Click OK and restart Firefox.

• Is there a way to link to a pdf in a iframe and have the find box removed?

Hello folks...
We are working on a transcription process and would like to have the pdf in an iframe. The problem is that in order to make this as quick as possible for the transcriber, the iframe needs to be as small as possible. The find box comes up and takes up a lot of room. Is there a way to turn that off automatically in the iframe source? Kind of like "zoom=100" but perhaps find=off or something like that. The find is actually pointless anyway since there is no text on the pdfs.
And what about the navigation panel on the left as well (not as big an issue)?
Thanks in advance
bardman

nevermind...i found it myself. I found toolbar=0, and removed the entire tool bar. Thanks anyway....

• PDF Reader on iPad and iPhone

Why isn't there an iPad and iPhone app to read PDFs that I have stored on iCloud Drive?

Has the PDF document sent to your iPad 4 and iPhone 5s via email and opened in Apple Mail?  Apple Mail on iOS has known bugs with attachments (not just PDF documents).
Please take a look at Problem #1: Some PDF attachments opened in Apple Mail on iOS are corrupted or damaged in the following document.
How to avoid known PDF email attachment problems
Alternatively, you can take the original PDF document (without damage) on your Windows/Mac computer and uploaded via a cloud storage service (e.g. Acrobat.com, Dropbox, Google Drive) and download it to your iOS device.

• How do I open email pdf's on iPad and iPhone?

HII have an iPad on Ios7 and an iPhone 4.  I can't open PDF attachments on either device.  When I click I them in the email, it starts to load in Safari with the blue line running across.  The line then disappears and then a blank page appears.
I've tried downloading Adobe from the App Store In order to 'share' by clicking on the icon that is a square with an arrow poking out of the top, however Adobe doesn't appear here when I click on it - just message, mail, twitter and facebook.  There's no option to 'open in' on the bar underneath this (the one with bookmarks, reading list etc).
can anyone help please?
My mail account is an @me.com on iCloud.
Thanks.
Fran.x

lillylocket,
What is your mail app on your iPad and iPhone?  Typically PDF attachments are opened in the preview screen of Apple Mail.  But it sounds like your PDF attachments are opened in Safari.
Please you take a look at the Safari section of the following FAQ documents to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS.
For iPad, How to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad on iOS 7 or 8 version)
For iPhone, How to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS (iPhone on iOS 7 or 8 version)
As you have discovered, Safari does not include the "Open In" options for the Share button.
When you tap anywhere in a PDF document in Safari, the secondary toolbar is displayed below the top toolbar.  You need to look for the text label button "Open In..." instead of the Share button.
Hope this helps.
Please let us know if you have additional questions.
