  • Visio 2010 Dynamic connectors are connecting to shapes

    Hi,
I am new to Visio and I am trying to create group using some shapes. The shapes in the group have connection points but the group itself doesn't have any. I want the dynamic connector to connect to the connection points only when I connect the group to some
    other shapes.
When I am using the auto connect option, the dynamic connector is connecting to the shape but not to the connection point. I changed the ShapeFixedCode in the shape sheet to visSLOConnPtsOnly. But it still is connecting to the shapes and not to the connection
    points.
Any advice or correction the way I am doing.

when you create a group you are creating a new shape with very few native attributes (no connection points and no custom properties). If you want to connect to the group shape  you should use the connection tool to add connection points.

  • Visio 2010 Validation for Checking the number of a specific type of shape.

I have written a rule for flowchart for checking the number of Start/End Shapes in a document.
    The FilterExpression is as follows:
    AGGCOUNT(FILTERSET(SHAPESONPAGE(), HASCATEGORY("Start/End"))) > 0
    The TestExpression is as follows:
    AGGCOUNT(FILTERSET(SHAPESONPAGE(),HASCATEGORY("Start/End"))) = 2
(Since totally there are 2 shapes: 1 Start and 1 End Shape)
However, it is not working. Can anybody tell me what is wrong in the expressions.

Well, it worked for me, so I want to check that you modified the Start/End master to have the User.msvShapeCategories row with the value "Start/End", as I did?

  • Unable to edit .vsdx visio file that is inside a document library using visio 2010 sp2

I have Visio 2010 SP2 installed locally inside my machine. The current version can open vsdx files by doing some conversions. I got the following scenario inside my SharePoint server 2013:-
Currently I have Visio file (with .vsdx extension) uploaded to my SharePoint 2013 document library.
If I click on the Visio file I got the following dialog.
I select “Edit”, click on ok.
Then the visio 2010 application will convert the current file and open it locally inside my machine.
But the opened file will have it name as “Copy (1) of ….”, as follow:-
So if I do some changes to the Visio file and I click on save I will not be able to save my changes back to the SharePoint server’s document library. Now if I do the same steps for a .vsd file not .vsdx then I can directly open the Visio file (without any
conversion process) and I will be able to save my changes back to SharePoint server.
So can anyone advice how to be able to edit .vsdx files which are uploaded to SharePoint document library using visio 2010 SP2 ?
    Thanks

    Thank you for your ideas.
After that last posting, but before your response, I asked them to add the local farm to their trusted sites zone. Several blogs I had encountered while searching had listed that as something they had tried.
As soon as they added the site to their trusted site zone, the problems went away.
It was definitely not all users - I only had 2 people directly contact me about the issue.
I never got a chance to ask them about other SharePoint sites - they were working on the sites where they spent most of their time - I don't know if they had other sites.
The old location and the new location of these 2 sites are in the same site collection - it was moving them from
    http://myfarm/sites/div/dept67/site1
    to
    http://myfarm/sites/div/dept64/site1
basically (with the actual names changed to protect my job).
The site collection is /sites/div . So the site collection features are the same.
I suppose that the site features could have changed between the export and the import - but since things are working now and I didn't change any features, I don't think that it is.
At this point, things appear to be working. However strange that seems to me.

Server: SCOM 2007 R2 (now); eventual upgrade to SCOM 2012 R2

I understand SCOM 2012 agents can be installed on Windows Server 2012 and report back to SCOM 2007 R2 MGs.
I haven't been able to find documentation for or against whether SCOM 2012 R2 agents can be installed on Windows Server 2012 and can report back to SCOM 2007 R2 MGs...  Is this supported?
I can't find anything on any specific CU level that might be required on SCOM 2007 R2 to support this.

    Hi,

  • Visio 2010 Link a Stencil to Telnet

    Good morning everyone,
I have been searching Google for two days now on how to link a Visio 2010 Stencil to Telnet so that when you hold control and click the stencil it brings you to the telnet login prompt for that router or switch.
I went to insert hyperlink, then chose local file, and linked to telnet.exe for starters. When I ctrl+click on a stencil I get a security warning asking if I want to continue; I clicked yes, but nothing happened. For kicks, I even tried clicking No and
    still nothing happens.
I then tried creating a shortcut to telnet and pointing the hyperlink to that local file with no luck.
Lastly I wrote a .bat file and tried to get the .bat file to launch telnet to my router/switch, and that works if I directly open the .bat file but does not link from Visio.
Does anyone know how I can simply make Visio 2010 so that I can click on the stencil and it auto opens telnet prompt allowing me to login to that device?
    Thank you

The technique the example uses requires modifications to the shape (thus making them unique on the page) and the code then calls an executable that accepts command line options and enters the appropriated operands to the call (ip address, port, etc.).
This is the 'easy' way to accomplish calling the telnet session. Be aware that as of Win7 calling command line executables via a browser was modified to make it more difficult.

Have a Visio File that peoplle using 2007 Standard can open and view, but when using 2010 Standard thhe drawing is not viewable, all the drawing properties are there but the drawing can not be seen

    Hi,
I have some questions about the issue:
1.Did both of the Visio 2007 and Visio 2010 installed in the computer?
    2. If we open and view the file in the different computers, how did you transfer the file? By email, physical storage or the other?
If we had two computers, I recommend you copy all the
content from the special file to new blank Visio 2010 file to test.
If you sent it through Email, the file may be damaged. Please follow the link to troubleshooting the issue:

  • Merging shapes in Visio 2010

Is it possible in Visio 2010 to merge shapes? i.e. union, combine, etc. as detailed at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/visio/HP010254151033.aspx
With the ribbon interface, there's obviously no Shape menu, and I have not been able to locate anything similar. Searching this forum, the internet and the built-in help does not yield any results. Is it possible this feature has been removed from the 2010 version?
    Thanks.
    Colin

Sadly this is just symptomatic of the hole down which MS applications are dropping. The new menu layouts are generally an unmitigated disaster. No, they’re not better organised, they are simply different so that people can no
longer find things. I have yet to find *anyone* who likes the new menus. IMHO Office peaked at the 2003 version and despite nice additions since, the complete mess of the UI means an overall detraction from the products.
This is nicely demonstrated by ‘Shape Design’ being in the Developer tab and by default hidden. Quite what bit of mind-bending logic thought that was an appropriate home for commonly used drawing tools?
And as has been pointed out, the help system is now a mess. In this case ‘combine’ and ‘union’ yield nothing, but it’s the same in the rest of Office. No longer a well organised help system, with say in Excel functions neatly
cross-referenced so you can find the right function by following a trail. In its place a scrape of web content, some of which is good, some not so, but with any form of real help system now submerged.
I saw a great post on another MS forum where someone did some simple maths of the number of Office users in his corporation, their cost to the company, and each being stalled for 10 minutes trying to find where things have been
moved to. I think it worked out at a $25M cost to the corporation, and a 10 min stall would be very very conservative as Office is now a complete re-learning exercise.
So sorry guys, Office starting with 2007 is just a complete disaster and people should be fired. You wonder why people don’t want to upgrade their software and move from XP and Office 2003?
This is one of the primary reasons. They have products that do all they need *and which they can use*. If people cannot use new versions due to ‘improvements’, then they are worthless. In fact worse than worthless, they are actually
costly in the lost time and productivity.

  • Visio 2010 EMF in word 2007 fonts distorted in PDF

    Hello Participants,
I am experiencing an issue with some Visio images not rendering correctly in my PDF. I created the images in Visio 2010 and saved as EMF. Then I inserted them into my Word 2007 document and generated a PDF.
One of my images renders great, the other one has some font distortion going on. Can anyone point me to some settings that could resolve this issue?
Thanks so much for your help on this matter.
    Z.

My two bits for what they are worth. I used AA9 for the conversion. When I printed to the Adobe PDF printer, the text came out crisp. When I used PDF Maker, I got the same poor fonts view I think you refer too. However, I think it in part goes back to the graphic you used. When I look at the page in WORD 2007, the fonts do not look that good either.
I did observe that it may be the scaling you have done in WORD -- a typical problem with the view of bitmaps. The size of the 1st one is 51% and the 2nd one is 59%. If you can scale the figures in VISIO so that they will be 100% in WORD that may help. What is strange is that printing to the Adobe PDF printer gave a nice result. So it appears to be related to a PDFMaker issue.
An additional factor is that Adobe PDF printer seemed to retain the information as a vector graphic (you can select the individual parts) and yet PDF Maker seemed to convert the graphic to a bitmap. How much of that is Acrobat and how much is MS screwing thing up I do not know (I only say this from past experience with graphics in WORD 2007 that was not a problem with WORD 2003).
As a last resort, I exported the graphics to an EMF and imported into Adobe Illustrator. I think clipped each one into a new WORD file as EMF files (Paste Special) and then ran PDF Maker. This time they came out fine. I think a good part of the problem is how the VISIO files are importing to WORD. That has long been a problem. I my opinion, MS bought VISIO and messed up a great product, causing problems like this.
Maybe some of my comments will help the Adobe team to trace the issue. I know that VISIO files embedded in WORD have long been problems. I do not have a best work flow when using VISIO, but clipping from VISIO does not seem to work well. I hope that some of may wandering analysis here is helpful. I have just been commenting as I have tried things.

  • Where are the auto recovery files stored for Visio 2010?

I have auto recovery set for every 5 minutes.  I have been working on a file that has been saved several times a day.  Today when just moving a shape Viso 2010 crashed after I had been working on the file for over 2 hours.  Auto recovery popped
up every 5 minutes indicating it was saving the file.  After the crash the ony file I could find was the file as it was when I first opened it this AM.  None of the work done today was saved.
Did auto recovery completely fail?  Where can I look for the auto recovery file?
I have not done a reboot because I am afraid that if the file exits it will be gone for sure if I reboot.  Any suggestions are welcome.
There must be a temp file or something that I can look for but not sure what the extension would be or the location.
    Hopefully someone here can help.

How do I know? You state the the auto-save file extension is .vxd - that's the Visio document XML format.
You can change this in File -> Options -> Save
As for the crashes, are there any messages when a crash occurs?
Check that the video drivers you have are the latest, try a different screen resolution to see if that changes anything and turn off or change any screen accelerators.

  • Linking data from Excel 2007to Visio 2010

    Hi Visio Experts,
I have a Visio diagram a warehouse. The diagram shows the area of the warehouse where there are shelves and within each shelf is stored a certain product and the number of items. I am trying to link the data from an Excel spreadsheet which
has three columns, which are the shelf number, the product, and the quantity. I have used the tutorials to link, but it does not refresh the data when the source information changes, which is very frustrating. Also, since the data is relatively large (100
rows) is there a way of linking to the right drawing box without manually dragging to each box?
Please make yours suggestions into really clear steps to help me with this problem.
    Thank you,
    Visio Rookie

    Hi,
You can have some changes appear either manually or automatically in the Visio drawing when making changes to the data source.
First you have linked data to a Visio drawing, there is a live connection between the two files. After making changes to Excel spreadsheet, switch to Visio 2010, then click Data > Refresh All. As an alternative, you can also right-click in the External
Data window and click Refresh Data.
I follow these steps mentioned in this article, and it works fine.

  • Add some (Master) Shapes to another (Master) Shape in Microsoft Visio 2013 x64 when add a (Master) Shape to the Page

I want to create a new Master Shape in the Microsoft Visio 2013 x64 like the Class
Master Shape in the UML Class Stencil.
When add the Class Master Shape to a page, it appends two Member and one Separator Master Shapes in itself automatically. Furthermore, can add more Member and Separator Master Shapes in it.
I was thinking that it adds other Master Shapes in itself by some written VBA codes; however, when I checked the file of the UML Class (Metric)
Stencil in the following full path, I got that it uses no VBA codes, not at all.
    D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\Visio Content\1033\USTRME_M.VSSX
The file extension is "Visio Stencil (*.vssx)" instead of "Visio Macro-Enabled Stencil (*.vssm)"; so, it can't have VBA codes.
I know that I can do something by adding some new Rows in the Actions Section of the ShapeSheet; however, it doesn't exist any action Rows to add fresh Member and Separator Master Shapes for Class Shape.
Figure 1 - Separator Shape with two additional options in the Context Menu and without any related rows in the ShapeSheet
Figure 2 - Display a Bar to insert Separator Shape
Figure 3 - Member Shape with two additional options in the Context Menu and without any related rows in the ShapeSheet
Figure 4 - Display a Bar to insert Member Shape
When I do RMB click on a Class Shape that is placed in the page, it has two new options in theContext Menu:
    Show Template Parameter
    Show Stereotype
And I see related Actions' Section Rows for them.
Figure 5 - Class Shape with two additional options in the Context Menu and related rows in the ShapeSheet
    When I do RMB click on the Member and Separator Shapes in added Class Shape, can see "Insert "Member/Separator" before/after";
however, when I add Member and Separator Master Shapes on the page directly (not in the Class Shape), when I do RMB click on them, can't see extra options in the Context Menu.
Figure 6 - Separator Shape with no additional options in the Context Menu
Figure 7 - Member Shape with no additional options in the Context Menu
I checked their ShapeSheet and can't find any related rows for above-mentioned actions.
Now, my question is that how can I create a new Master Shape with the ability to accept some other Master Shapes without any VBA codes like Class Shape
in the UML Class Stencil that is created by Microsoft?
    Regards Mohsen Rostami

The class diagram master shape is a "Container/List" shape, which has two "elements" (members) pre-loaded. You can of course build these groups using VBA. You might try to google it. Here is a starter.

  • Bug Report: [VIsio 2010] whenever I try to save a diagram to JPEG and then close Visio using the X button, Visio hangs

    Greetings
    I use Visio 2010 in windows 7 64bit
    and I have this problem:
whenever I try to save a diagram to JPEG (save as>JPEG) and then close Visio using the X button on the upper right corner, then Visio hangs.
The jpeg pic is saved ok, but Visio hangs permanently: I have to close it using task manager.
On the other hand, if after I save into jpeg, I press whatever other button in Visio (from ribbon) then it works ok, and afterwards I can close Visio with the X button
    - but, if I try to close Visio with the X button  right after saving to JPEG, Visio will surely hang.
    Thank you

    Update:
    The problem reappeared/wasn't completely solved:
So, I also went to Control Panel>add/remove programs, rightclick on Adobe Acrobat X> change installation and untick the PDFMaker item, in order to uninstall it:
that's because initially, even after I had unticked "PDFMaker for Visio AddIn" in COM Add-Ins,
in File>Options>Add-Ins tab, on the Active Application Add-Ins part (yes, on ACTIVE Add-Ins)
I was still seeing about 5-6 lines, all having items containing PDFMaker for Visio AddIn" [PDFMVisio.vsl].
In other words, the PDFMVisio.vsl file was loaded even if unticked!!
Then, after uninstalling the add-in, the problem was finally fixed at last!
Thank you so much for this additional information!  I was having the same problem.  I did what you instructed, and the problem has now disappeared!
