Vista Aero and MacBook

Hello! I'm running Vista Ultimate using BootCamp on my MacBook. Even thought the systems requirements seem to support it, I can't seem to get Aero to work. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You may not meet the RAM requirement would be first guess.

  • Vista x64 and MacBook Pro 65nm

    According to this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846
..this MacBook Pro 15" model is the only one with Vista x64 drivers: MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008).
I have the model from mid 2007, and am wondering why it is not supported?
As far as I can tell almost nothing has changed in regards to hardware, so why wouldn't it be supported?

The 2008 Mac Pro went from EFI32 to EFI64, not sure if that is the main or only reason.
I had to grab 64-bit BootCamp setup elsewhere, as Leopard 10.5.0 retail didn't include those and I wouldn't have support needed for HAL and such.
Apple started using new Intel chips, but that alone doesn't explain an even more glaring question: the latest 2008 iMac has Penryn cpu and would seem an excellent "candidate" for 64-bit Vista, but that model is excluded and not listed in that article.
No one of course that knows can say and just speculating out loud.
Can Vista 64-bit be installed? Probably yes and I think you can find some threads. I started with Vista x64 back in fall '06 pre-beta BootCamp with RC1 of Vista Ultimate but lacked a few things.
I suspect you have 32-bit EFI firmware is the only real reason.

  • Vista Aero on Macbook Pro

    Hello,
I just installed the Vista Enterprise on my Macbook Pro 17", no problems during the installation, but I don't have the Aero effect. Did someone had the same problem? Any help apreciated.

Some virtualization environments have better support for the graphics chip built-in to the Mac than others. Try a different one to see if it works better. The effect most likely is graphics driver dependent, much the same way Mac OS X Core Graphics is. There are these virtualization solutions available for the Mac*:

  • Set up network for Windows Vista PC and MacBook

Hey guys. I am trying to share files and a printer connected to my Windows Vista PC. Yesterday I could see the Widnows "public" folders and be able to take files from them, but couldn't put files in the folders. Then I went and set up an account on both computer with the same exact user name and password (I saw thatw as necessary somewhere). However I can't print from my Mac through the PC. Somietimes when I go to add Windows printer under system prefs printers, I see the printer and sometimes I don't. Even when I see it, I can't get it to add correctly and work. I NEED HELP. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. The name of the wrokgroup on my PC is WORKGROUP. How can I check and make sure that is the same on my MacBook? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have file and printer sharing on on both computers obviously

    I tried these steps here:

However I don't have a selection called share Windows in my sharing prefs, nor do I have a Utility called Directory Access

In case any one else has the same problem, the user name to access my Macbook from my PC was admin and I have NO idea why. Tat is not an account name for me. The password was my actual password, just my user name was different. Anyway, it is working now. I still can't add files to a particular folder on my desktop, but can add files to everything else so I have NO idea why that would be. I can take files from it on my PC, but can't add to it. Oh well. Thanks for the help

  • Sharing Files between Windows Vista and Macbook Pro

    Hi everyone!
I have just bought my first Macbook Pro and I love it. I am running Windows Vista on my desktop and connect wirelessly to the internet via a Netgear router. I have managed to connect to the internet with the Macbook Pro wirelessly too.
I am not sure how to set up file sharing between the PC and Macbook - can anyone point me to some SIMPLE instructions please?
    Many thanks

this is a wonderful article! thanks so much!
only one small change though. you don't really need to create another user ID to access the windows machine. i used my existing ID and it logged on fine!
but still, thanks for the rest of the article. i was totally lost without it...

  • Windows 7 Vs. Vista using Aero and GPU

Windows 7 and Windows Vista perform about the same when using 2 monitors with Mercury GPU enabled (one monitor for client previews as opposed to the GUI) and Aero turned OFF. When Windows Aero is ON with GPU they both take a hit in performance but Windows 7 suffers the worst. I don't know if it is because Windows 7 uses themes as opposd to a simple Aero mode. I want to use Windows 7 with Aero but it does not work well. Vista works OK with Aero but it gets a boost when disabled. What gives? I have tried everything I can think of. The Windows Vista system and Windows 7 system are the exact same computer. I have a GT 240 that works well with everything except Windows 7 and Aero. I think I am going to have to keep using Windows Vista even though Windows 7 has some nice features.

Aero changed what handled the memory management for the GPU and is something you want to leave on unless you have a Quadro card and that driver controls the memory management for the video card. Before Aero Memory management for the display was handled by the driver for the video card. One of the benefits the Quadro cards had was they had a driver plugin to isolate memory for applications or frames. The Gaming cards did not have that ability. Aero changed that and took control of that management. The OS now handles the memory management for the GPU/Display which allows the OS to do the frame isolation the Gaming cards did not have before. The downside as there always is one is as RJL states. The Ram shadow is far higher with the Aero on than it is when it's off. So you want to have more than enough system ram to handle that. Aero also improves the interface performance which includes preview once again because the ram management is handled by the OS and the gaming cards did not really have that before.

  • Windows Vista Aero theme - incompatible with iTunes?

Whenever I boot up my laptop I get an error saying iTunes is stopping my Vista Aero theme from showing. When I go to task manager and end the ituneshelper.exe module process, the Aero theme is then accessible.
I know the ituneshelper.exe is an important module to allow to run, but I really don't want it interfering with my Vista theme. Does anyone know of a fix for this? Help would be so much appreciated.

OK I figured out the problem:
I had installed Quicktime Alternative which screwed up iTunes since it requires the very newest version of Quicktime to be installed.
Moral of this story: Don't install Quicktime Alternative

Do I need to install boot camp on Windows 7 as well as on Lion? I already installed it some years ago on Leopard when installing Windows Vista on my Macbook Pro. But now after installing Windows 7, many things in windows doesn't work (sound etc.). I made a clean installation because I needed to go from 32 bit to 64 bit.
Or should I just update bootcamp in Lion? (cause when I search for "boot camp" in Windows 7 there's no result)

  • Vista Aero on N500

does n500 support vista aero theme?
if support ... how to adjusted.
    I use Vista Ultimate.
    Sorry on my bad English.

If you can find aero option in the themes menu your system will support it.unlike other operating systems vista hides certain features like aero and flip 3d if they are not supported.
you may want to run the vista upgrade advisor and find out the results as well fo much more indepth information

  • Installing Windows XP Pro or Vista on a MacBook

Yes, i've backed up all my information onto a image disk. Now, i want to install Windows XP Pro or Vista onto my MacBook. What is the easiest way of doing this without slowing down my performance of my macbook???
I would like step by step instructions and hopefully they are simple, lol.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

The easiest way to do it is to download and install Boot Camp. As long as you follow Apple's instructions it should go just fine.
I have installed both XP and Vista - at different times - on my BlackBook and they both work fine.

  • Vista SP1 and the Sigma Tel driver issue

I've done a fair bit of reading about why Vista SP1 does not show up for some people in Windows Update and for me its almost certainly down to the Sigma Tel audio drivers on my MacBook Pro (Feb 2006).
N.B. I have installed the latest BootCamp 2.1 32bit update and this did not change anything. Also I should mention this is a clean Vista install and I have not used a pre release version of SP1 either.
Apparently Sigma Tel sold off their audio division and is therefore no longer updating the software drivers. Microsoft have said they plan to address this driver incompatibility with their own update at some point. This was the response another user received from MS tech support:
"Kindly wait for further updates from microsoft which addresses the sigma audio driver compatibilty issues with service pack1."
OK, so they understand and are looking into it, but it also seems like it would be down to the new SigmaTel owners to solve - IDT posted this statement, which suggest they think there is no need to update their drivers:
    http://www.idt.com/?app=knowledgebase&contentID=4836&parentID=4836&parentPath=12 10-3638-3639-4836
I have tried 'Resolution B' from that link, but after removing the Sigma Tel audio driver, Vista SP1 still did not show up in Windows Update and I don't want to force install (via the download link) if Vista is not happy with my setup.
Does anyone have the definitive answer to this situation? It looks like I just need to wait a little longer, but I just wanted to check I've not missed something important.
    Thanks

    Hi Mark
Firstly, at the risk of being patronising, use winclone to image your BC partition. It works brilliantly.
Secondly, I have a late 2006 MBP (2.33GHz) with Vista on BC and running Fusion. MS Update did not offer the SP1 upgrade so I used the standalone installer. The sound works perfectly but I have found that there is a nasty bug in the video driver (X1600), which causes an immediate reboot if you try to adjust the screen brightness. It works fine so long as you don't touch the F1 and F2 keys. I used the BC systray app to asign the F keys to MS software rather than Mac hardware to avoid inadvertently tripping this fault.
If you don't mind this nasty little funny lurking on your system then SP1 is worth installing. For example Safari on Vista opens much quicker than on OS X 10.5.2
Vista SP1 works perfectly in Fusion.

  • How to transfer my daughter's iTunes from her Vista laptop to MacBook Pro?

I am trying to transfer my daughter's iTunes from her Vista laptop to her new MacBook Pro and I cannot figure out why iTunes cannot find the songs.  Help??
Her old laptop runs Windows Vista and her MacBook Pro is running Leopard.....I copied the iTunes folder under My Music on the PC and then dropped in the Music folder under iTunes.  I can see the songs when we opened up iTunes but when you try and play the song, a message pops up saying iTunes cannot find the music file, and asks if I want to try and locate it.  I locate it and nothing happens.
I spent $100 at the Annapolis Apple Store so she could go in on her One-0n-One and have all of this done for her.  When she went in, they told her she could leave her laptop and macbook and it would take up to three days!!!!  That was unacceptable....they then told her she needed to transfer everything and then come in for the One-On-One and have any questions she had answered.  SO, I am trying to complete the transfers and everything worked like a charm until I tried to tackle the iTunes part.
Any help would be deeply appreciated!!
    Charlie

  • Can I run Vista on my MacBook?

Will I be able to run Vista on my MacBook with bootcamp? I am planning to allocate 28 GB to the Windows partition as I do not run a lot of Mac OS X programs, but nonetheless...that leaves 6 GB of free space. Is that enough? Will Vista run well?
btw is OS X better or Vista better? The UI on Vista is very cool.

Nobody knows that vista will runs well until it is officially release and you install market version not the beta version.
For pc user vista ui might look awesome but maybe for most mac os x user, those ui has been there in os since os migrate to os X from os 9.
Also consider stability and security over a cool ui, for vista is build from the scratch apart from dos and win 2000/xp engine.
Every software have had their own follower and user and have their selling point or feature that not available as trade mark for its respectively os., and I am sure vista has that too, but it still beta tester until now and I don't want to speculate with that.
ps: you need at least 5 GB for windows partition as boot camp suggested.
    Good Luck.

  • Vista Aero Effect

Hi, I restored my W500 back to factory content, and found out the Aero effect, which gives the windows and taskbar a transparent look, is gone.  I went to "window color and appearance," but I could not find a color scheme that says "Windows Vista Aero."  Since it worked before I restored it, It's obviously not the hardware's problem.  What is it then?  Thanks all.
