Satellite A215-S4767 Vista Ultimate w SP1. 4Gb Memory
Strange problems starting to happen over the weekend.
Apps fail to load in taskbar; printer drivers, antivirus apps, etc. Did a boot with rescue CD and cleared out some malware but trouble persists.
Also Vista SP update failed to install three times and finally gave up on it. This was a couple of days prior so I don't think its related.
Unable to connect to any network wireless or landline. Seems to hang when I try to run "Network and sharing center". Many services fail to start.
Cannot run many control panel apps. For example eventviewer, diskmanager, services. They seem to hang. Once that happens I cannot close the administrative app.
Most of the apps that start automatically are not. Printer driver, antivirus app,
Disk mgmt never displays the drives; stays at connecting to virtual disk service
Cannot run system restore; seems to hang. When I try to run it again it says it is already running but I can't see anything.
Everything seems to function in Safe mode.
Any help.

to me it sounds like a corrupted os.
install or recover the system again.
if many apps and services are not loaded there is a serious problem...
check your hdd for errors first!
check memory! deinstall the half of it for installation!
btw: you cant upgrade to win7 with a damaged system!
hope you made your recovery disks before...
if you have spyware deleted this can also cause your system to hang - in my point of view your only solution is to reinstall....

I've tried to update the BIOS of this laptop which currently runs version 1.2, when the latest version is 2.0. When I run the BIOS update from Windows Vista, it fails with error code -15, with a message similar to "current BIOS checksum fail". The laptop was bought in Spain. Any ideas? 1.46GB partition and other small partition are for the System Recovery Options and the factory softw...

Crazy Vista on Satellite A215-S7437 - How to restore it?

Hi,
I really need help.
I have a Satellite A215-S7437 and the windows Vista is crazy.
I want to restore the laptop with the recovery partition.
I haved read that if i want to boot with this hidden recovery partition i need to press the 0 zero key when i turn it on.
But it dosen't work in any way.
IS THERE OTHER WAY TO BOOT FROM THIS PARTITION....?

Just to let you know this notebook does not have a hidden partition
In order for you to run the recovery process you need the recovery DVDs that came with this notebook
If you dont have them you will porobably need to contact Toshiba support in the US to order the recovery disks because this is US made notebook

Cannot connect to college network after installing Vista business on Satellite A215

I have a Satellite A215-S4757, which i brought with me to college, I was told that the college's server has a problem running on vista home, which is what I had, currently the wireless is down, so after installing business and connecting the ethernet cable my notebook does not pickup any of several networks available, wireless or otherwsie

What to say you can also access the network using Vista.
But please note that the Vista OS supports additional network access security settings which must be either disabled or reset.

Here several hints:
You should try to Open Network Diagnostics by right-clicking the network icon in the notification area, and then clicking Diagnose and repair.
The Vista supports additional firewall options. Please disable it while trying to connect to the server.

Upgraded to Vista Service Pack 2 on my Satellite L305-S5955...now there's no sound!

Last night I upgraded to Vista Service Pack 2 and today it says I don't have a soundcard. Out of all of computers, this is my only Vista, so I'm having trouble fixing this problem.
I tried to upgrade the drivers from the Toshiba website, but it's not a driver issue; there is no card being recognized.
So, I used the "Add New Hardware" wizard to re-add the soundcard. Doesn't work.
I see lots of people having trouble with this. And also, when the sound was working, it was really quiet. I'd have to turn off the dishwasher, heat, laundry machines, etc to hear anything!
Hope someone can help me on this.

My Satellite A205-S5800 Is InCompatible With Microsoft Vista Service Packs

I don't know where Toshiba gets off saying they're compatible with the Vista Service Packs when they are most certainly NOT. I have had the SAME exact problem with SP1 & SP2. I bought this paperweight at Best Buy (NEVER shop there), with Vista Home Basic, and ran into problems one month later, when I tried upgrading to SP1 (via Windows Update). It rebooted, and then refused to load. I had to reinstall everything. Again and again this happened. I took it to Best Buy, and they told me it was a faulty hard drive. Replaced, the problems reoccurred again. So, Best Buy claimed it was the Motherboard. A fresh one installed, SP1 finally worked from stand alone download. For 9 months, no problem. Then I stupidly decided to update to SP2 (via Windows Update). The SAME exact problem. Files were corrupted. Restore points vanished. Always with reinstalling to original format. I get SP2 standalone to work, and then Microsoft Update tells me I need to update with something or other. Rebooting ONCE AGAIN prevents me from loading up anything. Bets Buy now claims it's a software issue.
So, 3 different problems caused the exact same problem. Always with Windows Update, and almost always with Service Packs. This is compatibility? Toshiba sold me a lemon, a giant paper weight. I cannot upgrade it to Service Packs, and who knows which update next will frell me over. Especially since Microsoft forces updates on us from time to time. I have every right to update this laptop to the latest Service pack or other such necessary update to keep my system secure. What happens when my vulnerable machine is hijacked and zombieifed by nogoodnicks, and the police come knocking at my door? After all is said and done, and they chastise me about not updating my system, do I tell them, "No, it's OK. Toshiba says it's totally cool not to. They think Microsoft Service packs are evil"? Believe me, this situation can and has happened before. Machines can be compromised, and police will think it's you first.
Now, who at Toshiba do I speak to about a refund/replacement? I Lemon Law (via California) you, Toshiba. You sold me a worthless hunk of junk, and that is unacceptable. I will not use a system that can't be updated because you don't like Service Packs and Windows Update. and money was not spent to not use a laptop.

I think your tinfoil hat is on too tight. If it was a problem with that model, then nobldy would be able to update Windows, and there would be thousands of posts all over the Internet.
Problems are usually caused by software, sometimes installed by the user, and sometimes installed without the users knowledge. What's the state of your malware protection? Have you scanned for rootkits?
You also might want to run the System Update Readiness Tool to find problems.

I had a Blue screen problem and I received the suggestion to check for BIOS updates, well I did and found that my BIOS is V 1.40 and that there are available many updates: v1.50, 1,60, 1.70, 1.80, 1.90, 2.00 and 2.30.What should I do update the last version only or update in sequence starting with the 1.50 version.

Need little Windows XP help for Satellite A215-S5849

I have a notebook Toshiba Satellite A215-S5849 which came with Windows Vista home premium.
Some time ago, I installed Windows XP SP3 and I also installed some drivers which i found here:

I had to select model A210 coz there is no Satellite A215 available (but its probably simmilar, coz on my included Vista CD with drivers it also says its for A210/A215)
Main problem is... is there any simple way to get all XP drivers for A215... [Thats an other page, where I searched drivers for exactly my notebook and WIN XP, its many for vista. I have this little problems id like to solve:
1) Fn F5 doesnt work... I have 2 monitors and I cant use Fn F5 hotkey... I downloaded the driver... and other Fn keys work... but not F5... I've searched the forum and web and found something that I should have a "display devices change utility" installed, but this is only available for older notebooks (Ive searched, but i found only old driver for this). How do I make Fn F5 work in Win XP on A215?
2) Also in my Device manager I have three "Base System Device" undentified as "Other devices". Is this ok... or do i need some drivers or something?

Id like to run those keys on winamp, ive downloaded a plugin for winamp, and it did worked on Vista, but not on XP... in Toshiba controls utility I can only sellect programs to start with Internet button and CD/DVD button. Ive read its not possible, but it worked when I installed the plugin on Vista.

The drivers available were pretty straightforward , coz there is only one available for LAN, audio, Hotkeys etc. So I had not much choice. I also checked for which hardware they were made and from wihich manifacturer they are (I found the right ones... for example, realtek drivers for my realtek audio device...)

The A215 is a US notebook series and you usually you should use the Toshiba US driver page in order to get all compatible XP drivers.
There is no guarantee that the Toshiba XP drivers from the Toshiba European driver page would work correctly on the Toshiba US notebook.
Regarding the point;
1) You are right. The display device change utility controls the FN+F5 key combination and also the Hotkey Utility make the FN+F5 combination working.
This tool is available for some A210 series like the PSAFGE series. But it does not work on all A210/A215 series.
2) This could be a card reader. Check if its already installed. But note; after the XP installation you will still have yellow exclamation marks in device manager because some hardware will be only supported by Windows Vista. Therefore there is no Windows XP driver.
3) In my opinion the Toshiba Software Upgrades for Windows Vista/XP reminds about some new available software updates which were released on the Toshiba page US page.
4) I have the same issue and I think there is no way to change this in XP.
The Toshiba controls Utility for XP is simply different as the version for Vista and in my eyes there is nothing to do.

Video/FlashCard/Vista/Gotomeeting Issue (laptop model A215-S5822)

Hi everybody,
I'm not sure yet if this is a Video, Flashcard, Vista, or Gotomeeting issue.
Suddenly whenever I run Gotomeeting now, it won't share my screen and then it eventually gives me a message saying "Toshiba Flashcards has stopped working"...
I know that whenever I start GotoMeeting, the laptop switches to "Windows Basic" display settings. It's always done that, but for some reason I can now no longer share my desktop screen with other gotomeeting users.
Does this sound like a purely Gotomeeting issue?

SERVICE HANG REPORT - hpqddsvc

Currently, I have eight (8) home computer networked on my home networking system. The computers that utilize Vista 32 bit, Vista 64 bit, and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit operating systems continue to send a notification to the Problems and Report section, stating, "hpqddscv Service Hang Report."
I am using an HP All-in-One Officejet 7410 printer and HP Laserjet 2430tn printer.
All the computers appear to be sending requested items to be printed without a problem. However, as indicated, in the Problems and Report section, the aforementioned message is repeatedly displayed numerous times.
Does anyone know what this message refers to and how to correct/eliminate this message.
Any help would be appreciated.

The message refers to a service called HP CUE Device Discovery Service. Lets try and stop the service and see if the error pops up again.
1. Click on the start menu and click on 'Run', and then type 'services.msc' and press the Enter button.
2. In the Services window, look for HP CUE Device Discovery Service, and double click on it.
3. You should see a button labelled 'STOP'. click on that button.
4. Above this, you should find something which says 'Startup Type'. Change that to 'Disabled'
5. Click on the 'Apply' button and close all windows.

Tempo service hangs every time I start laptop

Hi I have a Satellite L350 - 17P and every day it starts up it locks up. It works for about a minute then freezes. On starting it up the 2nd time it works perfectly. Any one have any ideas how to stop this pc doing this? It's a few years old now and I was not told it did this by my son until I used it one day!
Tempo service hangs every time I start the computer.
I have done a search for Version.txt and minidump.mdmp but can't find them.
Can anybody help?

Well it hung again even after uninstalling and installing tempro.
I decided to unistall it completely as hoped this would stop it freezing up but it didn't.
Today it froze as per usual but when I checked the problem reporting there was not a report nor did it give me any information as to why it froze again today.
Totally at a loss as to why this is happening, and how can it be fixed if there is no reason given for it freezing???

Have disabled in _MSCONFIG_ and it does not start, so it seems to that I will have to uninstall and wait untill the problem is resolved or untill other people have the same problem.

I would like to view the Clipboard or Clipboard Viewer. I have Windows Vista Home Basic system. I've read where I have to copy the clipboard viewer from a Windows XP computer & then downloading? it to my Vista sysem. If this is not right, how is it possible to access it on my Vista System?
What I am trying to do is find a way to take screenshots of say keyboard properties & paste it directly to Toshiba Forums. The only way I've been able to do this is to upload from my computer & add as an attachment.

The clipboard viewer won't help you at all to paste an image into your reply here.
The trick is to click on the following icon in the toolbar. It enables you to browse to the image file on your hard drive and insert it rather than attach it.

Toshiba satellite a215-s4757 internal mic not working

So up until a couple weeks ago, my internal mike on my computer was working fine. Then the other day when I tried to use skype it would not work. When I go into sound->recording devices it says that the "front mic" is not plugged in. When I click on it thought it says it is working properly. I tried to download and install the driver from toshiba and it said that it installed correctly but this did not fix my problem. I read here that some other people have been downloading a new BIOS and that that helped? would that be able to help my computer? i have windows vista home premium 32 bit i believe. any help would be appreciated

Let's just try a proper system reset and see if this helps bring your mic back. Power off your system, unplug everything including the AC, remove the battery, press and hold down the power on button for 30 seconds, replace battery and AC, power on, when you see the Toshiba logo press the 'F2' key to enter BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, boot into Windows, and test your mic again.
