VM Server trying to talk to old manager IP after manager virtualization.

Hi All,
I have been trying to virtualize the VM manager and have got myself stuck.
Steps I have performed
1. Installed VM Manager in VirtualBox on Windows 7
2. Create iSCSI targets
3. Installed VM Server on physical machine
4. Configured storage
5. Created repositories
6. Created VMs
Now everything works perfectly so the next step is to virtualize the manager.
I followed the instructions here
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26996_01/E18548/html/CHDGIAIH.html
and
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26996_01/E18548/html/CHDGDFJJ.html
I got the manager up and running on a new IP address but couldn't start any of the VMs as it thought the VM server was not started.... even though the manager was actually running on the VM server it said was not started.
So I went back to try and use the old manager (virtualbox) and rebooted the VM server now I am in the same situation and cannot start any VMs as the old manager cannot see the VM Server as started.
This is the logs I see on the VM Server in /var/log/ovs-agent.log
[2012-08-28 14:19:11 4197] INFO (xmlrpc:285) Oracle VM Agent XMLRPC Server started.

[2012-08-28 14:19:16 4192] DEBUG (monitor:40) Error sending notification: (2, 'No such file or directory')
Note it appears to still be trying to talk to the 'new' virtualised manager (which is off) at 192.168.64.204 when the 'old' virtualbox manager is 192.168.64.120
Where is the manager IP stored on VM Server?
I have tried deleting the VM Server from the 'old' manager but it wont let me due to a bunch of other errors.
I have tried rediscovering the server but it whinges about the IP of the VM Server changing which it has not.
Any ideas how to get out of the hole I am stuck in?

Hi ,
1. Did you execute CREATE SUBDIRS in GGSCI prompt?
It will create all the required folders like dirprm,dirrpt,dirdef,dirsql,dirdat...etc
Db level user is not required for starting the manager process, But you have to create mgr parameter file under dirprm folder , for that you have to execute ,
GGSCI > EDIT PARAMS MGR
in that file mention the PORT number , usually it will be 7809 ex, PORT 7809,
then start the mgr in GGSCI
GGSCI > START MGR
again if you are getting MANAGER DOWN message then check the details in ggserr.log file which is available in GG home directory where you have unzipped the binaries .
Hopefully this will help you

• Trying to talk to a Manager is such a joke

I have been with Verizon for 9+5 years (they corrected me just now when I said 14 years) and I have just changed carriers. When I ported my number 9 days before my contract end date I was never told I would be charged an early termination fee of $60. From all my questions to make this process seamless was I not told of this by Verizon. It was my understanding that I would pay out the 9 remaining days and get my final bill. Right now I have been on hold with the third person in my quest for a reason why they wouldn't tell me there would be a 9 day term fee FOR 37 MINUTES ALREADY. Keep in mind I have made two previous calls and since I wanted to talk to a manager I was informed I might have to wait an hour on hold before I talk to one. My gut says they will say the exact same thing "you received paperwork 9+5 years ago regarding your contract and you should know that porting your number out automatically cancels your account thus you paying an early term fee (the 9 days). I understand you were not told that and were willing to pay out your contract for the 9 remaining days but you still have to pay it".
To add to this finale, I recently cancelled a second line that had no contract and they would not pro-rate that for the billing cycle but instead charged me over two weeks of the phone not even being on to extend to the end of their billing cycle!!
-Adrian

Both instances you speak of are clearly described in your customer agreement and what would occur. Not the agreement from 14 years ago. The agreement from the last time you signed a new contract 2 years ago - 9 days.
It is also available on the bottom of any VZW screen

• Managed Server won't talk to NodeManager-- Security issue... Certificate Chain incomplete

Here is what I have done:
1) I created a managed server using admin console
2) I created both an Identity and Trust keystore (jks type file) with the server's
private key (Identity) and the root trusted certificate authority (Trust).
3) I configured my managed server to use the two keystores
4) I edited the NodeManager.properties file to use the same keystores.
5) I started the NodeManager on the machine and I used the following command line
options by editing the %WL_HOME%\server\bin\startNodeManager.cmd file:
-Dweblogic.nodemanager.debugLevel=90
-Dssl.debug=true
-Djava.protocol.handler.pkgs=weblogic.net
6) I also added the following commands to my startWebLogic.cmd file:
-Dweblogic.security.SSL.ignoreHostnameVerification=true
-Dssl.debug=true
-Djava.protocol.handler.pkgs=weblogic.net
7) I started my admin server and created a Machine that included the managed server.
8) I configured the NodeManager properties for the Machine I created to point
to the NodeManager already running on that physical box.
9) I clicked on the tab to "Monitor" the NodeManager/Machine and it died giving
the above exception.
I would have no idea why the Certificate chain would be "incomplete". The Issuer
and Subject DNs match up fine:

Hi,
Can you please help me;
I have a similar problem on WL7 SP4 ( UNIX )
I have made a site that check https site.
When I try to read the page of the site, I've got Certificate chain is incomplete message.
On WL8 version ( WINDOWS ), I have no problem to retrieve certificate and then access to the site.
I have read that this error occure when Root CA Self signed certificat is not include in the keystore.
I'm using CACERTS keystore.
Can you tell me the process to generate the CA Root certificate and then import in the CACERTS.
Thanks a lot for your help.

You say you have the pse 5 disk?
I guess you do't have a dvd drive on your new windows 8 computer?
Do you have access to another computer with a dvd drive?
Anyway if you can find another computer with a dvd drive you could copy the pse 5 install disc to removable device like a camera card or flash drive.
You can also buy cheap usb dvd drives.

trying to active my old iPhone 3gs. it showing that activation server is temporary unavailable and on the iTunes showing that there is no sim card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate. I unlocked my phone then i upgrade it, after that this happen. i tried with other sim same message come again and again.if any body know solution let me know. thanks

Was the SIM card activated on another phone? I assume this is an ATT style trying to use on T-Mobile? Was the SIM installed correctly? Is the carrier (like T-Mobile) operating IOS 6 devices yet?
If the SIM is a valid SIM from say T-Mobile, you may want to contact them for assistance activating the SIM card.
Activation and SIM issues typically point to the carrier. And if this was a CDMA phone say working with verizon, it will NOT work for ATT or T-Mobile as they use different electronics on the 3GS. The SIM slot is for international use only.

• My iPad is trying to download 15000 old emails, how do I stop this?

I recently set up an iPad 2 for my mom and am having trouble with her email. Her Verizon account is trying to download 16000 old emails dating back to July and I'm having to download them in groups of 1000 & delete them. All of her email settings match my email settings and my account never prompted me to download old emails. How do I stop the email from wanting to pull in these old emails or is there a way to delete the 16000 in mass?

Delete them en mass from her computer. That deletes them from her e-mail provider's servers. Then her iPad can't download them. I know of no way to delete them en mass on the iPad. Nor do I think you can delete them from her iPad without deleting them from her computer. They both 'talk" to the same server!.

• How to connect to lined server in SSMS in SSIS connection manager

Hi,
In SSMS (Server name is sqlssisdw1), I have one (SQL Server)linked server name sql4. in that linked server there is DB called rptdb
Now using SSIS I want to use tables in that DB rptdb.
So for this I want to create Connection manager, but for this when I select 'New OLEDB connection' and in that in 'Server Name' when I wrote 'sql4' it is not giving me list of DB. I also tried giving sqlssisdw1 in server name and see if I can see this
rptdb but I can't.
Can you please tell me how can I connect to lined server in SSMS in SSIS connection manager? Thank you.
Vicky

Hi ,
if you are already having access and login credentials to the remote server which is configured in sql4 , you pretty much directly connect to that server from the connection manager instead of going through a linked server. If you still want to connect
through the linked server , you need to establish the connection for SQL Server sqlssisdw1 and then
use a 4 part name query to access the rptdb tables as like below
SELECT * FROM SQL4.rptdb.<schemaname>.Tablename
Best Regards Sorna

I assumethe node manager is not running on Exadata though you have posted in the Exadata forum !
how are you starting it. Are you using the gcstartup script within init.d ?
Thanks

• 64bit instant client talking to old database (8.1.7)

This might be a stupid question, but we have recently converted all our linux machines to running 64bit linux. The problem is, we need to access an old oracle database (running on the version 8.1.7). I installed a current 64bit version of instant client (11.1) but this one won't talk to the database - probably because it is too old.
We still have a copy of an old oracle_home installation, which does talk to the database. However, this is a 32bit software and the libraries won't link to our 64bit stuff - in particular we cannot generate a working DBD:Oracle perl module.
The question: Is there an older version of instant client or anything similar, that has 64bit libraries but still supports old 8.1 database installations? I tried to downloac 10.x versions of the instant client, but the links appear to be dead and I have no idea of this one would talk to old databases.
Any hint would be highly appreciated

This link works for me:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/htdocs/linuxx86_64soft.html
(if that is your 64 bit Linux).
With this client you will be able to connect to an 8i database, but if you have any problems, you're on your own as Oracle has desupported 8i.
Yours,
Laurenz Albe

• Server start arguments ignored when starting managed server

Hi
We have configured a bunch of arguments for the managed server through the Admin Console in the Server->Start Arguments
However those arguments are not picked up when we are starting the managed server.
We are using a shell script to start the managed server using the weblogic.Admin class functionality.
If the arguments are set in the JAVA_OPTIONS of setDomainEnv.sh, then they are picked up when starting the managed server.
The nodemanager is configured with startScriptEnabled=true and startscript set to startWeblogic.sh.
This is the scenario in Weblogic 10.0.0.
Can anybody please explain why the arguments are not picked up?
We tried the same arguments in Weblogic 10.2 and the arguments are picked up even if they are not configured in setDomainEnv.sh
Is the difference in behavior because of the difference in versions?
Edited by: user1030647 on Aug 29, 2010 12:26 AM

Thanks Jay for the immediate responses.
The thing I am worried about is it seems the behavior in Weblogic 10.0.2 seems to be in consistent with the behavior in Weblogic 10.0.0.
In Weblogic 10.0.2, even if the JAVA_OPTIONS in setDomainEnv.sh do not include the paramaters that are set in "Server Start->Arguments", when starting the managed servers, they are picked up as can be seen from the managed server log files.
However, in Weblogic 10.0.0, it seems that these options are not picked up when they are configured in "Server Start->Arguments". Only when they are configured in setDomainEnv.sh are they picked up.
Do you have any info which points to this discrepancy?

• What does "You can't open the application "Setup QuarkXPress6.1" because power PC applications are no longer supported" mean? I am trying to install an old version of Quark on my 2010 Macbook pro.

As has been mentioned, the software in Mac OS X that supported the running of PPC applications rather than current Intel applications on Intel computers such as your MBP was last seen in Snow Leopard. However, since I believe your MBP originally came with Snow Leopard, you may be able to boot from the DVD's that came with the computer and install it on an external HD and try to install Quark on that.
I think a better solution would be to buy Snow Leopard Server from Apple by phone (800-692-7753 and be specific about wanting part # MC588Z/A), installing it as a virtual machine in software like VMware Fusion, and then installing Quark 6 in that. You'll still need a license number to authorize the Quark installation.

• TF255317 When trying to set up Lab Management

My attempts are connecting TFS with SCVMM for Lab Management have been futile. What is frustrating is that the error message I receive is completely undocumented.
TFS Version: 2013 Update 2
SCVMM Version: 2012 R2
Windows Server Version (on both VMs): 2012 R2
TFSService account is part of the SCVMM Administators group
Ports 8100-8103 are allowed between the TFS Application Tier and the SCVMM Server. In fact, I can use the VMM Console installed on the TFS App Tier to connect to the SCVMM Server without issue. To clarify, I do not get an error when I try to establish a
connection to the SCVMM server from the TFS server using the VMM Console. However, when trying to "Configure" the Lab Management piece, I am faced with the error below (error code is elusive to Google [and Bing], and the description is very non-specific)
TF255317: Team Foundation Server cannot contact the following Virtual Machine Manager Server: '<correct servername>'. Make sure SCVMM is running, that the SCVMM server is available on the network, and that you can connect to the SCVMM server using
the SCVMM Administrator Console.
The only hit for this error code is from a MichaelKing facing the same issue back in 2012. Unfortunately, that person doesn't get any response as he's posting his question in a thread about a completely different issue.

Hi Reza,
I am trying to involve someone to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay. Appreciate your patience and thanks for your understanding.

• Trying to start up the manager process in a fresh installation

Version 11.2.1.0.3
Platform : RHEL 5.4
To configure manager process in a machine (which is going to be a target server ), I downloaded GG installer from edelivery.
Unzipped the installable in the desired location. Then I created a basic parameter file for the manager and tried to start up the manager process. But the manager process is not coming up.
This is what I've done till now after the installation of GG (By installation , I mean Unzipping and Untarring)
1. set the env variables for the database
2. Created the parameter file for manager as shown below.
$ ./ggsci
Oracle GoldenGate Command Interpreter for Oracle
Version 11.2.1.0.3 14400833 OGGCORE_11.2.1.0.3_PLATFORMS_120823.1258_FBO

GGSCI (stryker179) 1> info mgr
Manager is DOWN!
GGSCI (stryker179) 4> view param mgr
port 7809
purgeoldextracts /u04/ggData/dirdat/MS/*, usecheckpoints
dynamicportlist 7840-7849
GGSCI (stryker179) 2> start mgr
Manager started.
GGSCI (stryker179) 3> info mgr
Manager is DOWN!I haven't created any gguser at DB level. But that is not a pre-requisite for manager process. Right ?
-- Regarding the logging of GG's errors
Wish I could check some logs to see what is causing this issue ?
Where are the logs (.rpt files) stored ? I believe we have to manually create a directory called dirrpt.
For , the fresh installation, the dirrpt directory was not created. Only the following directories were found after the installation (Untar)
$ ls -alrdFt * | grep /
drwxr-x--- 7 oracle oinstall 4096 Aug 24 07:06 UserExitExamples/
drwxr-x--- 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Aug 24 07:33 cfg/
drwxr-x--- 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Aug 24 07:33 dirprm/
drwxr-x--- 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Aug 24 07:33 dirjar/

Hi ,
Hopefully this will help you
Annamalai.

<E-mail Edited by Host>

It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
So what to do, what to do.
Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
So what you will have to do is this:
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files.
