Voice messages

Question

Can I use Lookout to dial out through the modem and deliver voice
messages (pre-recorded) to a regular telephone line in case of certain
error conditions. Any ideas?

Lookout is known to work with third-party telphone alarms systems like Win911

If you only have a dial-up connection, one possible workaround is to send
your measured (and possibly processed) signals as outputs to a phone dialer>such
as a Sensaphone 2000(no endorsement implied)- this is a "relatively" inexpensive
solution (~$
1400-there are cheaper models available). The Sensaphone does
the dialout and can report analog values through the phone.
As an aside, in the case of alarm reporting, given the limited number of
input signals (8) on the Sensaphone, if you have many outputs to report via
voice, you can consolidate them by reporting location or priority instead
of actual values.
Although, it is somewhat expensive and silly to buy analog outputs (digital
outputs are a cheaper alternative) just so you can feed them back into another
device (lots of A/D and D/A conversion), this should solve the problem.
