Volumetric Light in Motion 3 similiar to Trapcode Lux

Is this possible in Motion 3 ?

You won't find one that works in 3D, not yet anyway.
But here's the Volumetrix link:- http://volumetrix.tv/

  • Using Light as Motion Path for Trapcode Particular

    Hi,
I am trying to make an animation for a project, but I cannot figure out some things.  I am trying to create the effect that a person is throwing money out the back of a car.  I have the live shot of the person in the car, but I cannot get the money to behave how I want it to. I am trying to use the Trapcode Particular, but I can't get the particles to follow any motion path.  When I set the settings to motion path, it prompts me to create a light.  I create a light, but can't figure out how to make that light have an actual path rather than simply being a spot light.  Please help! I'm sorry if I don't make any sense, please ask me to clarify if you need it.

Because you are doing it all wrong! If you wanted to use the Motion Path option in the Air physics model, your light would have to be exactly named like that - Motion Path 01. It's not what you want, though. I'm 100% certain of that. You are looking to create a conventional light emitter, which is a whole different thing. For that, your light should be named Emitter (or whatever other prefix you define in the plug-ins Options/ Settings panel). Then you must set the emitter type to Light. If you use spot lights and want your money to emit directionally, you need to set the emitter to Directional as well. Apart from that, Particular will use the light's color, cone angle and intensity to colorize and eject the particles. After that, you can animate the light in 3D space to whatever you need it to do.

  • Drop Shadow caused by light source (Motion 3)?

i am trying to create some drop shadows with objects in Motion, and i cannot seem to find a way to allow the 3D lights, to create a drop shadow for the object that is blocking the light. The object is also in a 3D group.
I am aware that you can just enable the "Shadow" box in the properties tab when in a 2D project/group, but this is not available when in a 3D group, so...
    Is this not implemented yet?

No, this is NOT available in Motion yet. Need to go over to After Effects for the Cast Shadow and Accept Shadow options.

  • Light as motion path

hurt my hand -- no caps. anyway, i've searched the forums, searched the knowledge base even searched the manual . can't find a how-to on this. it seems to be something everybody takes for granted. is there a tutorial or something...

Actually, "Motion Paths" and light emitters are two completely different things in Particular, so it all depends on what you are trying to achieve. For a classical trail, that fades off after a while, you'd indeed use an emitter (Velocity at zero, Opacity over Life and Color over Life). In that case it is important to match the names. Either make your light's name start with "Emitter" or change whatever is the name match string in the "Options" panel of Particular. Motion Paths on the other hand are available in the Physics section of the plugin under the Air model and require the light to be named "Motion Path", followed by a number. There is no option to change the match string for this.

  • Light Streaks - Not Using Trapcode particular

Hi there i am here to as a question .... is it possible to create Light Streaks whiout using the Trapcode Particular from Red Giant ??
    Regards ASilva

Well on Programs like blender i don't know how to works with them
And besides i was just asking if it was possible to create something similar to the effect i show on the link or the same without the need to use the Plugin Trapcode.
Or if i can use the particular Pluging that is already on After effects like the "CC particle world" ... (guess that is the correct name).
And if it is possible i would like to know because buying the plguin would be too expensive for my pocket

  • Help with inserting a light AE

hey guys, im sorry to be starting a thread about this here, but ive done quite a bit of search through google and on here and havent found anything, maybe i dont know the proper terminology for what im trying to do, youd think this would be relatively easy but i guess its not.
anyway, this is what im trying to do. AE cs4
im trying to recreate a light passing through a hole like how the sun would pass through a hole in the ceiling in real life.
simple right? i cant figure it out, i tried using shine but that doesnt work on 3d layers, so youre looking at the light from the front while the light is passing through the hole at the top.
bonus points if anyone can tell me how i could create a Icosahedron in 3d layers without the use of other 3d software or maybe point my way towards something basic i can import and animate in AE..
    thank you

You can fake volumetric light with a masked and blurred solid set to add or screen, with the beam effect blurred, with Trapcode Lux (simulates real light volumetric light from AE lights) or by masking and bluring an adjustment layer with color controls. Give us a screenshot and somebody will probably give you a solution.
As for constructing your Icosahedron the Wkipedia page gave you the solution. It's just a matter of laying out solids that are the right shape, adjusting the anchor point and then rotating and parenting. There's even a perfect layout template. Just download it and then create some solids that are masked and stacked to fit this shape exactly. Set the anchor points to matching edges, rotate, parent, rotate, parent, rotate, parent until your Icosahedron is complete.
There is also a vector graphic on the wikipedia page.

  • When Apple will release new Motion 6 ?

    Hi all!
About you, when Apple will release the new Motion 6 ? Will it support true 3D like AE ?
    Thanks in advance

There's no reason to think any tool would be lost ( other than we do lose stuff when apple updates software majorily), but if they did it could be a Smoke 2013 killer. The editing in Smoke is so lame, and many of the ways to build effects are excruciatingly tedious. All we need is some 3D import, or at least true 3D text, volumetric lighting, mesh distort tool and er.. well thats enough to begin with, it would blow Smoke out of the window.

  • QuickTime control of external devices like lights, fans

I am looking for a way which a QuickTime movie playing on a Mac can at certain timecodes trigger external events, such as turning on or off lights in a room. Nothing super-fancy but some combination of software and hardware that can send simple on/off commands to electrical outlets.

Unfortunately, no. You see what I was getting at, getting QuickTime to generate triggers that something else could handle. Trouble is, I don't know what that "something else" might be.
It's got to be do-able, though. This is basic show-controller stuff. Timecode-based controllers have been used to operate AMX-type lighting controls, motion bases, environmental controls, and just about anything else you can think of, literally for decades. To be able to trigger those controls based on a synchronized event track in a QuickTime movie seems to be a pretty obvious step.
I suppose another option if you're really clever would be to develop an "event track handler" for QuickTime that would allow you to create a specific event track using whatever syntax you require for your devices. But that makes it a system level programming project. I know I'm not quite that clever!

  • Motion 3 & Shake - Which To Choose?

OK, not trying to start a war.. I just have some basic questions regarding these two apps. Looking for some opinions on this.
I am fairly new to Shake, so with the announcement of FCS2 I am considering moving away from Shake in favor of Motion 3. I really like Shake and I understand the workflow, but now there is much overlap between the two applications (at least for my needs). Re-timing, GPU acceleration, motion tracking, etc. From what I understand, some features from Shake made their way over to M3.
As a serious hobbyist (filmmaker), am I making a mistake by not keeping Shake in my toolbox? I'm honestly having trouble thinking of things I'm doing in Shake that Motion 3 could not handle (again, for at least for my immediate needs).
    Thanks all-

Since there is, and won't be any more upgrades to Shake, there's no reason abandon it. The more ways you can skin a cat, the better. Keep it in your toolbox. It doesn't even take up much hard drive space.
Also, I think Motion 3 will remain primarily a motion graphics application. It's great that it's borrowing some tech from Shake, but I think that's a desire to compete with After Effects. I doubt Apple is building Motion to be a Shake killer. I have the feeling we're going to see a successor to Shake somewhere down the road.
I'm not a Shake user myself (yet), but I have an pretty good idea how **** powerful it can be. You mentioned you were new to the program, so it could just be that you haven't quite unearthed its potential, or haven't had need to yet. But if you're making films, it would probably be remiss to disregard Shake in light of Motion 3.

  • Motion 4 and 3D objects from Photoshop CS4?

Anyone know if Motion 4 can work with 3D formats supported in Adobe's Photoshop CS4? i.e. U3D, 3DS, OBJ, DAE, KMZ??
    Thanks, Rob.

    Hmmm...yes and no.
For example Cinema 4D -- produce your 3D object and even animate it if so desired, leave off the lighting as one would want Motion to handle that since it can even if limited. Put the 3D object in Motion and go to town on composition with 3D camera motion and lighting. Motion is not really manipulating the object, but it's treating it as a real 3D object in a real 3D camera space. And for that matter Motion could do reflective surfaces (if updated to do so).
Yes they are different, but they are relative parts of the development of a composition (movie, commercial, or even just a web ad). It's part of the process, a part that is seriously MISSING in FCS 3 and in any Apple's pro applications lineup.
Now I realize Cinema 4D isn't cheap $1000 entry (unless you get Student version) up to $3600 for a full studio bundle. This is obviously a big step up. BUT, Apple don't necessarily have to go as far as Cinema 4D -- a simplified variant say equal to Cinema 4D core product $1000. If you think it justifies a separate product (similar to the now dead Shake) then sell it as such but provide support for it's output in Motion.
Point being, there is a BIG HOLE in the Apple Pro Application lineup. Apple have Aperture, FCS, LS, but nothing in the world of 3D. Heck, even a limited 3D tool is a start, something to fill the void -- like AC3D (support OSX) $80 -- even if somewhat primitive it can be start.
Sure, no full body and even room scanners like the Pro's use, but just to getting something primitive going.

  • Unable to remove spotlight effect in Motion

I have added a spot light in motion got the effect I want and now I can seem to get rid of that spot light wheel (blue wireframe) over my composition I have tried to click on the side of it and it still refuses to go away , how do i get rid of that wireframe guide??
    Tx

Well it won't show up in your rendered composite but if you don't want to see it in the Canvas while you are working, just turn off the 3D Overlays (under the View pop-up menu or press shiff-command-')

  • Rendering Light?

So I'm really new to everything that is Final Cut Studio 2. I'm especially fascinated with the Lights in Motion. Every time I add a light it just turns all the 3D objects a yellow-orange color and I'm unable to fully enjoy the effects of adding a light. I've looked exhaustively for a solution. Is it a hardware or software issue? I have a feeling it's because I'm using a MacBook but if it's not I'd very much like to be able to use lights! Thanks for any help you could offer!

    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB DDR2 SDRAM
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I have bad news for you friend. MacBooks are not supported inside Motion. I'm really disappointed that my 4 day old laptop won't run the software I just installed (with no warnings by the way). I opened up a project I created on my old Powerbook G4 and found that the lights were not being rendered on screen. So I tried rendering to a movie thinking that it would render them that way. Nope. Just a completely blank video. Solid black and nothing else.
I'm surprised that there was no warning of any kind throughout the process. Aperture won't install if you don't have enough ram so why does Motion install if it won't run on the hardware? (oh, by the way, don't bother using Color either)

  • Adding "Searchlights" to a 3D animation

    Hi everyone,
I'm new here (and to After Effects) and am trying to create 3 "searchlight" spot-lights dramatically shooting up into the sky behind a bank building set on a hill for an animated commercial (fyi: the animation was modeled with ArchiCAD 10 & rendered with ArtLantis Studio 1.2.6 Rfc0 as an MPEG movie file).
Would anyone here be able to give me basic instructions on how to create these searchlights with After Effects? Any help will be appreciated.
    Todd

Well, a million ways. The simplest and most cost effective is to use the Beam effect. Set its timing parameters so it gives a continuous beam and then adjust the thicknesses and opacity. Anotehr idea is to use the radial wipe transition - use the "Both sides" mode, adjust the transition percentage, use feather. if you wanan go fancy, you could use Trapcode Lux. It renders physically correct volumetric light effects based on 3D lights in your comp. Lastly, there's laso a searchlight/ light beacon effect in one of the Tinderbox collections. One tip: if you use the simpel tools that come with AE itself, don't play cheap and dirty. Getting a good-looking light beam will require multiple duplicates and some experimentation with color, opacity, blendmodes and additional effects such as blurs to soften everything.

  • Status of a phone queue in ICWin

    Hello,
Is there a functionality in ICWin to monitor queues statuses?
For example information about number of calls waiting in queue, what customers are in queue?
    Regards
    Radek

The kind of glow you are talking about is easily achieved with blurred copies of your glowing phone screen...
Lighting up the objects it passes is achieved by animating blurred masked solids or even sections of your footage that have a blur applied and the blend mode set to screen or add.
It's a bit like creating a light saber with masks and blurs on duplicates of a shape layer or masked solid...
Trying to get AE give volumetric lighting effects using a light without a 3rd party solution like Trapcode Lux is a pain in the neck. A little tracking, animated masks and general basic compositing skills even removes the necessity of doing any of this except the animated floating phone with a 3D layer.
Here's a post I made a while ago with an explanation that should work for you.

Here's a similar thread with a sample project where I'm compositing a glow from a TV on a kid watching the program.

You can download the CC project here.
I would just render your 3D phone with Ray-traced rendering then composite the project as 2D layers. Unless there's something you didn't explain about your project this would be the most efficient production workflow.

  • Layers not casting shadows.  How strange.

I've set up a comp with a light behind a large number of grey solids aranged in a grid. The light shines through the grid and onto a perpendicular solid ground-plane.
The thing is, the grid solids aren't casting any shadows. Now, they're in a precomp which is set as a 3D layer, but all the materials options are set correctly. All of the solids AND the precomp are set to cast shadows, and the ground-plane is set to accept shadows. The light casts shadows (and it works with other objects in the scene), but no joy on the solids grid.
Here's an image showing two views of the scene along with the corresponding overhead view to show the camera and light placement. The horizontal line in the overhead view is the solids grid. Also, Trapcode Lux is on to visualize the light cone, but it's not to blame, since there are still no shadows with it off and removed from the comp.
    http://www.leonid-studios.com/Personal/ShadowTest.jpg
Let me know if you can figure this out.
    Thanks!

I realise this original post is 4 years old, I've only just come across it.
I had exactly the same problem it was driving me mad, the problem was caused by a 3D Null object between two other 3D objects. By moving the Null to the top of the composition's layer stack weirdly meant the shadows were visible again.
